Poking around media PR sites as many music writers do (ok, maybe just nerdy ones like me), my eye instantly drew to the EP cover pic above. Listening to the accompanying sound clip of “Genevieve” , a track off their latest self-titled release with a reggae and retro 60′s soul pop vibe, sealed my interest in Lucius. Exploring video clips on YouTube, I viewed “Go Home” aka Dolly , “Turn It Around” and “Shenandoah” which displayed bold visuals and cleverly blended opposite sides of the music spectrum- country, new wave and retro singer-songwriter pop.
Attracting attention from SPIN, NPR, The NY Times and Seventeen Magazine recently, Lucius duo Holly Laessig and Jess Wolfe, band producer and mates Danny Molad, Peter Lalish and Andrew Burri seem headed for the bigs very soon. Check out the clips of my chat with NY-based Jess Wolfe early last week, a few days after Hurricane Sandy hit. You’ll hear us discussing serious topics like the storm recovery in NY, recording their latest EP, being influenced by David Bowie and Roy Orbison and of course, most importantly (kidding), who guiltily-pleasure watches cooking and “Housewives” reality shows in the band.
