Vowing to expand my musical horizons further this year, I found Kim Talon’s new single, “Work For The City” and rocked out to it on repeat consistently for several days. Fusing 90′s grunge, riot grrl punk and classic rock along with empowering yet sexually provocative imagery, it’s easy to see why comparisons to Patti Smith, Bikini Kill, Sleater-Kinney and Joan Jett would come easily. Taking a break from duo Eagle and Talon to release her solo debut self-titled album, Jan, whose name she took from a fascinating bartender she encountered in LA; I spoke with Kim right before this release, encountering a mix of sweet honesty and calm, understated confidence.
