I think we all agree very few artists come along that successfully rock several hats at once-being a singer/songwriter/producer- and frankly, look cool as f*ck doing so. Esthero managed to do just that with an amazing voice and deeply personal songs that spoke to and for a generation of aspiring pirates looking for an empowered, yet at times insecure, sensitive female poetess to lead the way. Although drawing rock, punk, R&B and jazz comparisons to Sade, Gwen Stefani and Pink, Esthero has really been in her own lane since Day One.
Checking out Esthero’s latest album, Everything is Expensive and rocking her 2004 single, “O.G. Bitch” on repeat recently, I was on a mission to connect with her because I wanted to get a sense of who she really is, one-on-one. Chatting with her a few weeks ago, she was refreshingly candid, chill, funny and dropped some inspiring gems of wisdom throughout our interview. Listen to us discuss her name origin, working with Yeezy, Cee-Lo, whether she is still an “O.G. Bitch”, what she’d need on a deserted island and more!
