As a music lover, have you ever thought about what makes a great song? A list might start to form in your head and you automatically think of the singers, instruments and tools needed. But who lays down the groundwork to make everyone sound good? Who created the dope beats that make you dance or bob your head unconsciously on your favorite hot new joint?
I connected with rising R&B and pop producer J. Rob who’s worked with Grammy Award-winning producers Bangladesh and Rodney Jerkins, as well as Grammy-nominated and winning artists Musiq Soulchild and Chrisette Michele. He notably contributed songs including “Rich Hipster” with Wale and rock track “Your Fair Lady” with Guitar Slayer on Chrisette’s new Audrey Hepburn: An Audiovisual Presentation mixtape available on coast2coastmixtapes.com. It was dope to get this “wizard behind the scenes’” perspective on the creative process. Check out the videos and interview clips below where we discuss his start, production style, career highlights and plans to submit a few tracks to Kanye West, Pusha T and Eminem in 2013!
