First hinted at by Brooklyn Vegan and now being confirmed by Consequence Of Sound, in 2013 we may see The Postal Service reunion we have all been waiting for! According to COS:

“The Postal Service have updated their website to simply read, “The Postal Service 2013,” all but confirming the rumors of their impending reunion.

Earlier this month, BrooklynVegan reported that a reunion between Ben Gibbard and Dntel’s celebrated collaboration was “in the works.” No additional details were provided, but BrooklynVegan included a tag for “Coachella” in the article, suggesting that the duo could appear at the Indio, CA festival this April.

Whatever live appearances the band may have planned, “people shouldn’t hold their breath” for a new album, as Gibbard explained to Spinner in October. “There are no plans to make a second record … I can’t say that enough,” he added. “I find that making music in computers involves a lot of mouse time … I don’t have an aesthetic for that… I’m much more interested in playing music than creating it.”

We will also remind you to take note, the 2013 Coachella lineup has yet to be announced. Fingers crossed!

Update: Now both Pitchfork and Billboard are confirming the reunion rumor is true! They have also claimed the band will perform at Coachella this year, although the line up still has yet to be announced. There are “additional dates and festivals are also in the works”, although no new albums are planned. More details below.

Also, to further celebrate the 10 year anniversary, the re-issue of their album, ‘Give Up’, will include two previously unheard tracks. The release will come with a second disc, featuring the ‘new’ tracks ‘Turn Around’ and ‘A Tattered Line of String’, which were recorded during the original album sessions, but never released.

The second disc will also include live recordings, remixes and covers of the band’s material by Iron & Wine and The Shins. The reissue will be released on April 8.

Update #2 (2-11-13): They have now confirmed their Coachella appearance, along with some other festival dates. Even more exciting: a new song!  Listen to “A Tattered Line of String,” their first new music in 10 years! It will appear on the 10th anniversary re-issue.
