Remember Vampire Weekend? We do! One of indie music’s biggest rising stars have been a bit quiet over the past year or two. Their sophomore Contra came out all the way back in 2010. Many, the band themselves included, were hoping for a new release last year in 2012. That has been pushed back till 2013, and we n0w have official confirmation on the release date for the new album! The Vampire Weekend home page has been updated with: “LP3 Complete”, and then the next screen shot displays May 6/May 7. And as Pitchfork notes, the letters MVOTC (or MVOFC) appear in the bottom left, and have yet to be decoded. Maybe we will be able to hear some of it live at this year’s SXSW.
We previously reported that they were planning and working on their as of yet still untitled, upcoming third release, they have been working with other artists like Major Lazer and Das Racist. The guys even managed to put out a new song. First debuted live at a warm up gig before playing the fest, they appeared on Jimmy Kimmel last night performing the new single. It’s called ”Unbelievers”, and will assumingly be on the yet to be released new record. Check out the video, with the guys celebrating Halloween by dressing like characters from the classic 80′s flick Karate Kid here.
Update (2/4/13) : We now have official confirmation of the new album title. Using creative marketing to create word of mouth buzz as always, the group dropped the details in an ad running in the classifieds of the New York Times. It simply read: Modern Vampires Of The City, May, 7, 2013. Here’s the artwork too.
