In a drone-like state one dreary afternoon, this album cover above of a drowning girl immediately snapped me out of it. This album cover belongs to Seattle based rapper Sadistik’s new album, Flowers For My Father, dropping on February 19th. Hearing a lot about this cerebral artist (in every sense of the word) who blends caustic wit, raw honesty, fatalistic themes and love for other art mediums into his work, I had to stop everything to listen to the first cuts off the album. Getting early reviews that there should be “more records like this, that not only confess the vulnerability of the artist but use the opportunity to expose the very essence of humanity” and call him the “Edgar Allan Poe of hip-hop”, he lives up to the hype and then some. I spoke to Sadistik a few weeks ago about his latest album and its production by Blue Sky Black Death and Kno from The CunninLynguists, his past tweets on failed musician bloggers/journalists and more.
