Admittedly I’m not as big a regular TV watcher as my family and friends. I’ve always chosen to spend my time in musical geek/ nerd cocoons and attending live events. But every so often I will poke my head out like Punxsutawney Phil(ippa) if something/one catches my attention. In 2011, that something /one was Tacoma, WA native Vicci Martinez on Season One of NBC’s “The Voice”. Her look and raw, raspy and real voice harkened back to the Lilith Fair sirens of years past and left an undeniable impression representing Team Cee Lo Green during that first season. A loyal “Army” of warrior fans which supported her throughout soon formed. She’s opened for Sting, Annie Lennox, Etta James and B.B. King and the “Come Along” version of her song featuring Cee Lo off her 2012 album, Vicci, holds constant on the charts and continues to receive substantial radio play.
Check out our interview below where I caught up with Vicci recently to discuss her experience on the show, post-Voice life, picking Cee Lo as her coach, working with Sugarcult member and Neon Trees songwriter Tim Pagnotta and more. Catch Vicci on tour and get more info on her music on Vicci’s main and Army webpages!
