Deap Vally are excited to release today their Get Deap! EP, which is the band’s first U.S. release on Cherrytree/Communion/Interscope/Island. The Get Deap! EP offers fans their first taste of what’s to come on the band’s upcoming full-length album, which is near completion and will be released later this year. The EP includes 4 tracks, including the band’s debut single single “Gonna Make My Own Money,“ which NME hailed by saying “[Deap Vally draws] on the unrepentant strut of Ike and Tina and the heavyweight clatter of Led Zeppelin, as well as Karen O’s tree-felling caterwaul.”
To get a taste of the EP and the world of Deap Vally, watch the trailer below, complete with footage of the girls rocking their tunes in dark clubs, drinking straight from the bottle, and the Los Angeles skyline.
To support the release of the Get Deap! EP, Deap Vally are preparing to hit the road in the next few days on a US tour. The band gets the party started in Las Vegas on April 13 with a show at The Cosmopolitan with The Yeah Yeah Yeahs before heading to Coachella on April 14. Following the west coast dates, the girls will head east for a couple of dates along the east coast co-headlining with Free Energy, including a show at Bowery Ballroom in New York on May 5.
Deap Vally mix bashing hard rock and greasy blues riffs, much like the White Stripes and the Black Keys, into their primal sound. The female indie duo formed in Los Angeles, after guitarist/howler Lindsey Troytook a crocheting class taught in a San Fernando shop by drummerJulie Edwards. The two swapped CDs from their respective projects, and soon decided to jam together. Deciding on an image based around halter tops and short jean shorts, they played their first show at Silverlake Lounge and, within a year (before they had even released an album), their raucous on-stage presence earned them some big spots with major British acts like Muse and the Vaccines.
The self-professed Valley Girls released a four-song EP, Get Deap!, produced by Lars Stalfors, in the spring of 2013, in advance of a full-length debut, Sistrionix, also produced by Stalfors. The girls made quite a name for themselves opening on the road for Mumford & Sons and Muse. The New York Times, following the band’s CMJ show, said “bottom line first: Deap Vally was too good for the room.
