In case you haven’t noticed, R&B artist extraordinaire Luke James has broken away from the SSSS (smooth, seductive, singer-songwriter) competition in a big way. Repping the Big Easy (playing the Essence Music Festival in his hometown recently), he was nominated this year for the Best R&B Performance Grammy (watch any live clip and it’s easy to see why). Since April, he’s been traveling the world, opening for the “Queen Bey” herself, Beyoncé on the international hot ticket “Mrs. Carter Tour”. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, this sensitive, humble artist’s also worked with the likes of Keri Hilson, Chris Brown, Tank and Tyrese. Oh, and he’s gorgeous (did I mention he’s hot?!).
I chatted with Luke on the ATL stop of the “Mrs. Carter Tour”, before showtime, about how he found out about his Grammy nod, whether this tour has been life-changing, how he met Beyoncé, his interesting Willie Nelson and Alabama influences, what we’d be surprised to know about him and more.
