If Tristan ‘Mack’ Wilds looks very familiar, he should. He’s lit up the big and small screens as a rising talented actor over the past few years with prominent roles in shows like “The Wire” and “90210” and critically-acclaimed movies like “Red Tails”, “Half Nelson” and “The Secret Life of Bees”. Now pursuing his first love, revealing equal talent and conquering another art medium, Mack is prepping the release of his R&B album debut, New York: A Love Story, with R&B and hip-hop “dream team” assistance from the likes of Salaam Remi, Rico Love, Ne-Yo, Pete Rock, DJ Premier, Havoc, James Poyser and Raekwon, just to name a few. Listening to his latest single, “Own It”, it’s def addicting.
I connected with Mack in his (and my) beloved New York to discuss growing up in Staten Island, throwing up fists as a baby to Public Enemy, getting words of wisdom from Alicia Keys and Jay-Z, WTF moments in his career so far, his new album, memories from “The Wire” and more. Peep the interview soundclips and videos below! Follow Mack on Twitter for more info on his upcoming album release!
