Toronto has already experienced flooding and tornado warnings in 2013, but thankfully no riots…that is until the weekend of August 24th and 25th. Historic Fort York will be an appropriate battleground for Riot Fest, the music equivalent of an over the top battle royal – Unfortunately, there’s no wrestling like there will be in Chicago and Denver, the other stops on the travelling Riot Fest caravan. Toronto is the first, however, and with this honour comes a reunion that’s been 22 years in the making. How long has it been since The Replacements last played together? Kids today aren’t even old enough to remember that their song “Can’t Hardly Wait” is also the title of a teen movie starring Jennifer Love Hewitt!
Besides The Replacements’ big comeback, the rest of the Toronto lineup is nothing to sneeze at. Attendees can look forward to moshing along with rabble rousers such as Iggy and the Stooges, A Day to Remember, in addition to some Canadian bands including Burlington, Ontario’s Grade, The Weakerthans from Winnipeg, and The Flatliners, who have members hailing from Richmond Hill. Want to be part of the mob at Fork York: Garrison Common? Music Emissions are pleased as punch to have 2-day general admission passes to give away. All you have to do include @musicemissions and @riotfest in tweet, along with the #RiotFestTO hashtag and the band you’re most looking forward to seeing. Not on Twitter? We’ll also accept comments on Facebook.com/MusicEmissions (As long as you ‘Like’ us!)
Winners will be announced after 6PM EST on Thursday, August 22nd, and are responsible for their own transportation and accommodations. You can still buy one-day tickets for Riot Fest at Fort York here: http://riotfest.org/toronto-tickets/
