Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Monday, I will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across my virtual desk.
(Columbia Records; New York, NY – August 21, 2013) – Today, Brooklyn-based synth-pop outfit St. Lucia has unveiled the Passion Pit remix of their new song “Elevate.” The original track, which rocketed to #1 on both Hype Machine’s “Popular” and Spotify’s “Viral 50” charts upon its mid-July release, is featured on the band’s highly anticipated full-length debut, When The Night, available October 8 via Neon Gold/Columbia Records. Listen to “Elevate (Passion Pit Remix)” here: https://soundcloud.com/st-lucia/elevate-passion-pit-remix.
The band has also revealed When The Night’s album art and tracklist. The cover was designed by Leif Podhajsky, best known for his work with Tame Impala as well as acts ranging from Foals to Lykke Li. The album’s tracklist (see below) features a handful of already released fan-favorites, including “All Eyes On You,” “September,” and “Closer Than This,” as well as brand new songs that have made their way into the band’s recent live sets, including “The Way You Remember Me” and “Wait For Love.”
To celebrate the release of When The Night, St. Lucia has announced two unique, intimate shows next month on the west coast. The band will perform their entire new album from front-to-back on September 10 at Los Angeles’ The Echo and September 12 at San Francisco’s Rickshaw Shop. Tickets for both shows are on sale this Thursday, August 22 at 12pm PT.
In addition, St. Lucia will join Two Door Cinema Club on tour this fall, with dates kicking off October 2 at Philadelphia’s Tower Theatre and continuing through mid-November (see itinerary below). Earlier this month, the band made an exhilarating splash at Lollapalooza, where Entertainment Weekly called the Brooklyn multiculturalists “the next big thing” and Consequence of Sound raved that “’Elevate’ left every newfound island-craving soul hungry for their debut full-length.”
Produced by the band’s own Jean-Philip Grobler, When The Night expands upon St. Lucia’s unique brand of dreamy, nostalgic pop, with additional production and mixing from Chris Zane (Passion Pit), Rich Costey (Muse, Foo Fighters) and Andy Baldwin. St. Lucia has previously released two EPs—2012’s September EP and self-titled EP.

The Lone Bellow will continue to take its highly-lauded show on the road this fall — this time as headliners. Fresh off a series of opening slots and high profile festival/event plays – Stagecoach, Newport Folk, Taste of Chicago, and Celebrate Brooklyn to name a few – the band will round out the summer with appearances at Bumbershoot, Austin City Limits and supporting dates with Dwight Yoakam and Deer Tick before beginning its fall headlining tour in New Jersey on October 19th.
The Lone Bellow also partnered with Talenthouse to invite creative fans to design the official poster for the fall headlining tour. The design submission period is currently open, and runs through September 2nd.
The Lone Bellow was greeted on release as one of the best albums of the year by People Magazine, and the band has garnered critical acclaim from everyone from USA Today, The New York Times and The Associated Press, to Paste, Forbes and Filter. The band appeared on Conan O’ Brien in January and on The Tonight Show with Jay Leno in late spring. Radio station WFUV praised the album’s “charm, radiant hooks and intense emotions,” noting also, “The Lone Bellow performs with a sense of necessity.” NPR’s Bob Boilen simply stated: “The world of acoustic music is about to get a new household name.”
The band has garnered significant engagement around the track and video for “Bleeding Out,” having been featured on both VH-1 and CMT, with extensive regional support at radio, including WXRT’s The River in Boston. The Lone Bellow will perform at the station sponsored Riverfront Festival on Aug 31st in Newburyport alongside Brett Dennen and Matt Nathanson.
In addition to completing a summer-long national tour of festivals as well as supporting slots with such artists as Brandi Carlile, Robert Plant and The Civil Wars, The Lone Bellow headlined Celebrate Brooklyn last month, attracting a jubilant crowd of over 3,000 on a rain-soaked Brooklyn night.
