Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Monday, I will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across my virtual desk.
CLUTCH has set a November 26th release date for Earth Rocker Live via Weathermaker Music. Earth Rocker Live is a double vinyl picture disc set. The first LP is the studio version of Earth Rocker. The second LP consists of live versions of the same tracks in the same sequence as the original. This is not a live recording of one show. The individual tracks of the live version were recorded at different shows throughout the band’s May 2013 US tour: Houston and San Antonio (TX), Lincoln (NE), Indianapolis (IN) and Fargo (ND). The stunning artwork displays the four Indian heads from the original package in all their colorful beauty: one for each side. This special collectors’ item will be limited to the initial print run and is expected to sell out quickly.
CLUTCH will kick off the next leg of the “Earth Rocker” World Tour tonight in Hampton Beach, NH, immediately followed by a festival appearance in Virginia Beach, VA at “Localpalooza”. These tour dates run through November 23rd in Detroit, MI. CLUTCH will then hit the road for their annual holiday shows and continue on tour through January 18th in Huntington, WV. All dates and links to purchase tickets can be found below.
For the first time ever, CLUTCH will perform live on AXS TV Concerts Thursday November 14th at 11:00 PM EST/8:00 PM PST from The Ogden Theater in Denver, CO. The band will be playing tracks from their latest release Earth Rocker as well as CLUTCH favorites and rarities during the live unedited performance on AXS TV. Check out a commercial for the show HERE.
In anticipation of the telecast, CLUTCH will be giving away ten signed copies of the Earth Rocker Live double picture disc LP through a social media contest HERE.

NEW YORK, NY – 9/17/2013 – With a slice of indie influence layered with bouncy synth pop and topped with catchy choruses- and you’ve got the crafty recipe of the energetic music made by New York City’s own Knifekick. Already pleasing fans of the xx by releasing a cover of the popular track, “VCR” on diffuser.fm and debuting the video for it on Magnetic Mag, Knifekick is ready to premiere his own work off his debut EP with the defining track off the album, “No One Like You.”
Knifekick’s own work on This Could Be Forever demonstrate the wide range and versatility of Matt’s musical skill and talent. The album finishes off with “No One Like You,” and while the start of the album begins with a spirited, youthful song about new beginnings (also titled This Could Be Forever) it ends with a mature, thoughtful track layered with thumping drums, elevated guitar riffs, and a looping lyric that croons decisively, “I will never be the same again.” Knifekick’s bold debut attests to Matt’s musical bravado and perfectly encapsulates the wide spectrum and feelings of joy – from exciting, new beginnings to long-lasting happiness – that undeniably emits from his music once you listen to it.
A solo project headed by Matt Gorny, Knifekick has got the infectious pop hooks of Matt & Kim yet captures the remix sensibilities of LCD Soundsystem, creating a delightful combination of upbeat melodies and contagious beats that will make your head bob and feet kick. Knifekick is ready to break out from the local scene with its debut release, This Could Be Forever, on Positively Human / Peace Bisquit where Matt reveals his knack for creating electrifying music that’s seamlessly easy to both dance and sing along to.
Watch the video for Knifekick’s “No One Like You” below.
This Could Be Forever is an ambitious solo endeavor by Matt, who has released work on several EPs with a previous group. On his own, Matt is an award-winning songwriter and has garnered musical accolades in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest and The Billboard Song Contest, placing in both the electronic and pop categories. Matt’s music has also showed commercial success in several TV shows and indie films such as the theme to the reality TV show, The Arrangement, his musical work in an episode of Mike and Molly, and has also written songs for the critically acclaimed documentary, Florent: Queen of the Meat Market, which showed in the New York Food Film Festival.
It’s hard to believe that with all this buzz and industry praise, Matt cannot exactly recall when he decided to pursue a career in music. Originally born in Poznan, Poland and growing up in New York, all Matt can remember is that he just wanted to play his own music: “I’m not sure when I decided that I wanted to be a musician. It just gave me such an unbelievable kick to come up with a melody on my own and then play it. I just wanted to keep getting that hit, like the drug that music is.”
Matt has manifested this “kick” into his solo project, Knifekick, and teamed up with Count De Money (Multitalented UKbased siblings Julien and Raphael Aletti) and Bill Coleman of Brooklyn-based Peace Bisquit to produce the record from its early stages. With the help of a stellar production team (Tim O’Heir who has worked on The Flaming Lips, Hot Rod Circuit, Say Anything) that helped mix and nurture these songs in its demo days, the release of Knifekick’s This Could Be Forever demonstrates a lively musical style and lyrical fervor all its own.
(Los Angeles, CA – Oct. 29TH, 2013) – Jared Leto premiered a new short film documentary inspired by Thirty Seconds to Mars’ current single “City Of Angels” today across VEVO, the world’s leading all-premium music video and entertainment platform: http://smarturl.it/CITYOFANGELS. They treated the 12,000 fans at their homecoming show earlier this month at the Hollywood Bowl to a sneak peak early showing. The remarkable and moving short film which Leto directed, tells true stories about Los Angeles and features a cast of renowned artists, actors, and athletes including Kanye West, James Franco, Lindsay Lohan, Juliette Lewis, Selena Gomez, Olivia Wilde, Ashley Olsen, Lily Collins, Alan Cumming, Corey Feldman, Shaun White, Steve Nash, and more.
“City Of Angels is a short film about this wild, weird, and wonderful land, Los Angeles, California. A place that has left its mark on the world’s imagination and a place where dreams can actually come true. I made this short film so I could share my thoughts on this incredibly special place + talk to others about theirs. It’s not so much about this particular city but more about the people who inhabit it. This is for the dreamers who know that sometimes the impossible is indeed possible,” said Jared Leto.
“City of Angels” is the second single from Thirty Seconds To Mars 4th album ‘LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS’ and is currently top 10 and rising on the alternative radio airplay charts. The band released a lyric video last month which already has over 1.5 million views. “City of Angels” follows the album’s first single “Up In The Air” which reached top 5 at alternative radio. The short film for “Up In The Air” was awarded the Best Rock Video at the 2013 MTV VMA’s and is nominated for 3 MTV EMA Awards including Best Video. “Up In The Air” is also up for Best Music Video and Best Cinematography in a Music Video at the 2013 Cameraimage International Film Festival.
Thirty Seconds To Mars’ homecoming show at the Hollywood Bowl was the last stop on the band’s current tour, the first U.S. outing in support of LOVE LUST FAITH + DREAMS. The night was special and memorable evening for the band and their legion of fans who were also treated to opening sets from Panic! At The Disco and New Politics. Fans that couldn’t make it to Los Angeles were still able to participate in the historic night by buying a digital ticket through VyRT at http://beta.vyrt.com/mars. Thirty Seconds To Mars will return to Europe for an arena tour through November and then back to the U.S. in December for a series of radio shows (full schedule below).
