Always on the quest for new music, there’s nothing better than following smart and diverse music-listening artists who put you onto other artists in the same lane. Getting a random tweet about Oakland based Panamanian pair Los Rakas’ latest record ‘El Negrito Dun Dun & Ricardo’, this album’s been on repeat ever since. Addressing a range of topics like the harsh reality of the “Sueño Americano” unfilled and showing love and respect for all Afro-Latinas on “Africana”, hay algo para todos. Broadening horizons, the primos who blend hip-hop with dancehall and reggaeton also left-field collaborated with legendary punk band Blondie’s new album recently, showing versatility and expansion into new audiences.
I caught up with Raka Dun to discuss culture shock, moving from Panama and returning home to visit, sharing stages with Snoop and Cypress Hill, connecting with Blondie and more. Listen to the soundclips ( (here or below) and follow Los Rakas on Twitter /strong> for more tour and album release info !
