This week we are going to take a look at all of our reviewers Top 10 album picks of the year. Please pipe up down in the comments with any that we may have missed or if you don’t agree with any of our picks. Here is the list of picks from our site’s editor, Ben Oliver (iamparadox).

If you don’t think it would be much of a challenge to put together the 10 best records of 2012, then you don’t comprehend how much tremendous music exists today. This list first started out for me at about 60, then I narrowed it down to 30, then finally was able to cut it down to 10, but it wasn’t easy. Here we go!

Ben’s Top Albums of 2012:

1Japandroids –Celebration Rock
Released this summer, this could easily be the best record this year. It would be a difficult challenge to find a listing of this year’s best albums without this one listed.

2.  Wiz KhalifaO.N.I.F.C.

You know that you have a great record when the only complaint is the album art!  I enjoyed Rolling Papers and placed it on my year’s best picks from last year also. This one is even better.

3.  Matt & KimLightning

I’ve been a huge fan since Grand came out in 2009, and each record seem to improve. This one is outstanding, every song is enjoyable.

4.  Walk The Moon— Walk The Moon

Seemingly out of nowhere this group from Cincinnati not only arrived, but quickly started to take over!  Taking their name from The Police song “Walking On The Moon”, they released one of the most unrivaled debuts of recent memory.

5.  OberhoferTime Capusles II

I first discovered Brad Oberhofer earlier this year when researching SXSW. His first major project is quite impressive, leaving us impatiently begging for more.

6.  Imagine Dragons–Night Visions

I had no idea who this band was when first learning they were opening on tour for AWOLNATION. Seems like I, along with everyone else, learned who they were really fast!  They have been on nearly every radio and tv station this year. Incredible, inaugural work.

7 White ArrowsDry Land Is Not A Myth

I was so excited about their brief EP last year, I couldn’t wait for this full length to drop. I was even more blown away than I was expecting to be!

8.  Cloud NothingsAttack On Memory

Ok this is another one of my favorite bands, so call me biased. This album has engineer and all around rock bad ass Steve Albini credited as producer.

9.  Ab-SoulControl System

There were many hip-hop records worth considering for this list, it was extremely excruciating trying to narrow it down. This was one of my favorites and wasn’t able to quit listening to it.

10.   The XXCoexist

Expectations were high for this one, especially after winning the Mercury Music Prize for their debut. The expectations were met, and were maybe even exceeded by this release.

Deathgrips–The Money Store
