Not many artists have been able to make the music that makes them happy to record and survive for 28 years, not like Sonic Youth has. Sonic Youth is an American rock band formed in New York City in 1981. The current lineup consists of Thurston Moore (vocals and guitar), Kim Gordon (vocals, bass, guitar), Lee Ranaldo (vocals and guitar), Mark Ibold (bass) and Steve Shelley (drums).

Some argue Goo was their best work. Their third official release Bad Moon Rising is the Sonic Youth record that garnered enough attention and respect from the underground scene. Enabling a long standing relationship with an industry that has spit out and chewed up many an artist like Sonic Youth None of us yet have the courage to take it on, how bout you?

Review Bad Moon Rising or some of Sonic Youth’s other past releases.

Interesting, this is one Sonic Youth album I haven’t listened to. I am a big fan of Goo, Daydream Nation, and their most recent album.

I don’t know, I might be in the minority, but I am rather fond of Sister and Dirty. Something about paring down the noise freakouts and putting them in traditional song structures makes them more propulsive and stronger.

I really like Daydream Nation and Dirty as well by these guys! I’m gonna have to give this one another listen then! Hey, who determines what is the indie classic of the week? Is it open for suggestions?

We are always open for suggestions.

Sister is my favorite Sonic Youth record by far. EVOL would be second.

Lmao… Of six people who have commented, there is no stand out winner for Sonic Youth best record…Again, I think the reason I picked this record was cause it was strong enough based on critics to keep them from disbanding. As a result, Sonic Youth is right there with U2 as far as longetivity is concerned, and Bad Moon Rising was the building block.

lol-good answer hstisgod! Sonic Youth is defintiely a huge important piece of rock history. They show that an indie band can have great longevity as long as they make great music! As far as suggestions, we have to have some fugazi on here for indie classics. It’s a must! They are like indie Gods!! I don’t know if they already had a classic of the week here yet (probably) but I would suggest maybe “13 Songs”. Although, technically that is a compilation of two earlier EP’s so perhaps “Repeater” or “In on the Kill Taker” (Love that one).Just a thought!

Are you kidding? Fugazi was number 1!

    Lol, good suggestion though …

Hahaha…OK awesome! I didn’t look back that far but figured it had to be in there! Well, we can still do In On The Kill Taker! And I’ll think of some others!!

Cool, yeah, there’s alot of bands out there so maybe a little later we’ll do another fugazi record, but keep recs coming.

Cool, will do. How about some Elliot Smith just to go in a completely different direction? Maybe Either/Or or XO…
