Metallica-Record Store Day

Grammy® Award-winning Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees and 2016 Record Store Day Ambassadors Metallica are set to perform live at Berkeley, CA’s legendary record store Rasputin Music this Saturday, April 16th in celebration of Record Store Day 2016.

While a few lucky Met Club members and Rasputin customers have won tickets to see the rare in-store performance in person, fans from around the world will also be able to join from the comfort of their own living room via a Facebook Live stream on the band’s page ( The band will hit the stage around 4:00 PM PST and will be celebrating the releases of the remastered reissues of Kill ‘Em All and Ride The Lightning.

Metallica is no stranger to Record Store Day, a special day in support of independent record stores and record store culture worldwide, now in its ninth year. Metallica’s support through out the years has been more than noteworthy with in-store appearances, (remember Mountain View, CA Rasputin Records in 2008, when the band met their fans for hours to kick off the very first Record Store Day) and a healthy handful of special releases. In fact, members James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich, Kirk Hammett and Robert Trujillo made big news just last year when the band’s cassette-issued demos collection, No Life Til Leather, ended up as Record Store Day 2015’s highest seller. As well, Trujillo’s lauded biopic, Jaco, about legendary bassist Jaco Pastorius, was RSD 2014’s Official Film and a special Record Store Day exclusive version was released on DVD for Black Friday 2015, including a bonus CD featuring tracks from Trujillo himself.

Jacob Whitesides

Acclaimed singer/songwriter Jacob Whitesides – whose independent spirit and approach to his musical career has captured the attention of critics and industry tastemakers as well as millions of fans around the world – releases his eagerly anticipated new single, “Lovesick,” today via all participating digital retailers. The single is the first to be released from the 18-year-old’s full-length debut album, which is due in late summer.

“Every day that I walked into the studio was another creative adventure and Lovesick was just like that. The song was started before I got in the room and it was like joining a party with the “yeah, yeah, yeahs” and the “no, no, nos” the band just crushed it and the vibe spoke to my Tennessee sensibilities. The lyric is really about getting caught up with love and maybe looking at too many options only to figure out that you gotta do it one relationship at a time or you will lose the ones that matter. The co-writers and musicians were stellar and the vibe is fresh. I know that the song is a great peek at the rest of the album and all of the songs represent a part of me as I learn about myself at 18.”

King Khan

Singer/songwriter/producer King Khan is excited to share a new track called “Never Hold On,” which appears on the soundtrack to the film The Invaders (all of which was composed by Khan). “Never Hold On” premiered via CMJ, who described it as a “strings-swept soul ache-er.” This track is available online and in stores today via his label Khannibalism (that he recently co-founded in cooperation with Ernest Jenning Record Co.), on a 7″ backed by “A Tree Not A Leaf Am I.” Another 7″, “America Goddamn” b/w “Muletrain Says,” is also available today via Khannibalism/OBEY/Ernest Jenning. “Never Hold On” is available to stream or embed HERE. Physical copies of both records will also be in select stores for Record Store Day.

“For this single from The Invaders soundtrack, I got to assemble my dream band including, Pamelia Stickney, Theremin virtuoso, Toby Dammit (Swans, Stooges) on drums, gas cans and all sorts of percusssion, the one woman orchestra known as Gillian Rivers, my 12 year old daughter Bella,” Khan said of the track. “‘Never Hold On’ appears in the film during MLK’s funeral and I tried to capture the intensity of what it must have been like on that day, it might be the best song I ever recorded. ‘A Tree Not A Leaf Am I’ was a song I co-wrote with Adan Jodorowsky.”

Acclaimed street artist and OBEY founder Shepard Fairey, who designed the artwork for the “America Goddamn” b/w “Muletrain Says” 7″, said “I’m a big fan of King Khan’s garage funk; it’s trippy, rockin’, and completely infectious. King Khan and I talked about collaborating and ‘America Goddamn’ was the perfect song for us to join forces on because it’s humorous and cathartic but also poignant in its critique of America moving forward not backward. When art, music, and social commentary come together it’s the most potent combination possible so I’m excited and honored to put that creative gumbo on the plates of the unsuspecting.”

Tanika Charles

In five short years Tanika Charles has transformed from an emerging solo artist to a commanding performer and a staple of the Canada’s live music scene. Late last year she released the title track “Soul Run” which hit the Top 20 on CBC Radio 2. Hear the track here. May 10th finally sees the release of her long-anticipated debut LP, Soul Run and Tanika taking the album on the road with a cross-country tour. Tanika also dropped a new track from the album today “Two Steps.”

Throughout Soul Run, Edmonton-raised Tanika presents an immutable charm, at times endearingly abrasive and honest in her vulnerabilities. Tanika’s art is inherently autobiographical. If Tanika’s singing it, she’s lived it as displayed on Soul Run’s first single and title track, a tale of withered romance and high octane escape.

The overarching sound of Soul Run is classic soul and heavy drums with Slakah the Beatchild (Glenn Lewis, Melanie Durrant), Daniel Lee (Hooded Fang, Phedre), Emdee and 2nd Son (allie), Christopher Sandes (The Big Sound), and Big Tweeze (Theo 3, Adam Bomb) handling the album’s production. Soul Run was mastered by Bryan Lowe at João Carvalho Studio.

Tanika and her band The Wonderfuls, have been lighting up stages near and far at festivals like NXNE, Pop Montreal, CBC Music Fest, TD Toronto Jazz Fest, the AGO Massive Party, the Pan Am Games, and many more. On stage she has sang alongside the likes of Emmanuel Jal, Fred Penner, Donna Grantis, Zaki Ibrahim, Bedouin Soundclash, and others.

Tanika has also appeared on television both as a reoccurring guest on CBC Kids, and as a lounge singer on Global TV’s Bomb Girls drama series. Her music has also been featured on HBO’s Less Than Kind, ABC’s Rookie Blue, and CTV’s Saving Hope.

Tanika Charles will tour in support of Soul Run this May. Stay tuned for updates!

Junius Meyvant

Westman Islands singer-songwriter Júníus Meyvant has recently caused big waves in Scandinavia after being the star of the Icelandic Music Awards-winning Best Newcomer and Best Song as well as being nominated for Best Male Singer and Best Song this year.

From relentlessly touring and selling out halls and venues across Europe, Júníus has been receiving a lot of recognition from his unique soulful folk-pop sound. This lead to plays on Radio X, BBC Radio London and Amazing Radio. Impressively, his debut single Color Decay caused quite a stir in his homeland-reaching number 1 on National Radio and then being chosen by KEXP’s Programming Director Kevin Cole as Song Of The Year. Moreover, Júníus’ fascinating guitar playing has left him compared to the talented Ben Howard.

Júníus Meyvant is back with his new single Neon Experience. By incorporating various fragments of soul, folk, pop and indie together, the result presents his creative abilities of the highest order. There’s depth, there’s feeling and intricacy, which the listener can wrap their ears in. The Aloe Blacc-style vocal performance with the Graffiti6-esque hooks, despite being 6 minutes long, can be heard repeatedly whilst retaining its magic. Oh, and there’s a mid-tempo sonic surprise in the middle…

Madeline Juno

20-year-old Berlin based songstress Madeline Juno covers “All Time Low” by Jon Bellion, alongside fellow German singer-songwriter Chris Brenner. The video captures a spontaneous, acoustic jam session filmed in a lounge-room setting in Berlin. The pair take the originally upbeat, catchy song and put a sweet, harmonic slant on it, to which the viewer can’t help but smile.

Formed in 2011, Fossil Youth originally began as the single minded vision of founding member Scottie Noonan. Over the course of the next year, the band’s sound was reshaped, and eventually, Fossil Youth coalesced into the band it is today. With a newfound lineup and confidence, the band collaborated on new music with a renewed vigor, and began to hit the road in support of the material. FY has spent the last several years honing and perfecting their craft, and are poised to release a batch of new material that will stand on its own, and contend with the formidable musicality of their contemporaries in today’s emo/indie rock scene.

Ultimately, Fossil Youth aims to deliver a perfect synthesis of their varied influences, while keeping a sense of youth and originality at the forefront of their refined approach.

Alexandra’s vocal has crystal clarity, strong and with a unique rock edge she is a front-woman who brings real depth to Astorian. The music is bursting with catchy guitar riffs; spatial melodies, chasing drums and beautiful harmonies and throughout dark atmospherics they still manage to sound uplifting too. Their music is influenced by 90’s Brit Pop melodies and the romanticism of New Wave, citing bands such as Oasis, The Cure, Pixies and The Jesus & Mary Chain as inspirations.

Astorian however are very much on their own path finding a new way of mixing both nostalgia and current sounds with musical hope. Astorian have already been well received by their home country Switzerland with numerous airplays across national radio stations including Couleur 3 and Retetre.

The band are currently touring the Night Flight EP in Switzerland and Europe with plans to bring their emotive live show with striking audio visuals to the UK later in the year. They have previously supported Motorama and Girls Names amongst others and for full upcoming gig listings go to .

“Selena was the first Mexican-American voice I looked up to ever since I was very young. She spoke to young girls of my ethnicity and helped pave the way for all Latinas. I wanted to honor her for her birthday on April 16th by remaking one of her songs because I feel young girls today need to be exposed to more of her music which is timeless,” affirms Abrina.

Abrina turned a lot of heads in 2013 when she dropped her feel the smash single “Dat Good”, which featured Compton’s rising star Problem. On her follow up single, “Fall Back”, she was joined by multi-platinum superstar Baby Bash and garnered international attention with the song. In addition, Abrina spent most of 2013 touring and promoting the song in radio stations across the country. The release of her 2014 singles, “Blowin” feat. Jeremih and “Actin Up” feat. Eric Bellinger, were key in the build up leading to the debut of her highly anticipated EP, My Playground, which dropped January 2015. Currently, Abrina is working on her next project, My Playground II while on tour across the globe.

Vice Versa

The alternative youth media empire headed by flamboyant CEO Shane Smith, is demanding that struggling Los Angeles band ViceVersa immediately cease and desist from using their name.

Vice Media, the $2.5 billion dollar global company with high profile investors such as The Walt Disney Co, WPP and 21st Century Fox, has served the band with a Cease and Desist demand citing that band’s trademarked name “ViceVersa” might make consumers think they are connected.

The Cease and Desist requires that the band immediately shutdown their presence across social media platforms, their website and stop the selling of any branded merchandise. In addition Vice Media want to see documentary evidence of how much money the band has made over the past 3 years.

The 3 band members; Zeke Zeledon, Sarah Corza and Ariel Fredrickson released a video statement in response to Vice Media’s demands in which they outlined their position and showed how different their band logo is to the Vice Media moniker.

Over the past few years, ViceVersa have been regularly playing local shows to generate an income in and around Los Angeles and have already self-financed and released 2 EPs – their most recent EP was voted #1 EP in LA Record Magazine’s “Best of 2015 Reader & Contributor Poll.”
