Capping off a steamy April, thousands traveled from far and wide, even crossing the pond, to partake in the 4th Annual Art of Cool Fest in Durham, NC. With a multi-generational jazz, hip-hop, R&B and soul-rock lineup that you couldn’t find anywhere else, each day showcased homegrown rising and Grammy-winning established artists and producers. Oasis Fest

All eyes will be on Morocco this September as Oasis festival returns to Marrakech for its third edition this September 14-17, 2017 bringing a world-class music line-up to music resort The Source. The third wave of acts are revealed today, including Agents Of Time (live), Black Rose, Call Super, DJ Stingray, Dr. Rubinstein, Pantha du Prince (live), Shed, Willow and more. With acts including Richie Hawtin, Maceo Plex, Nicolas Jaar, Marcel Dettmann, Anja Schneider, Moodymann, KiNK and Charlotte de Witte also on the bill, this is set to be the biggest edition to date.

There’s not many festivals in the world where you can ride a camel in the desert by day and dance beneath the stars by night, soundtracked by the biggest stars of the electronic music scene. Founded in 2015, Oasis has put North Africa firmly on the map as the must-visit festival destination of the moment. Nestled on the outskirts of the bustling city of Marrakech, the festival continues to showcase the finest international talent, as well as shining the spotlight on the flourishing Moroccan electronic music scene.

DJ Stingray has been an innovative force in the world of Detroit techno for over twenty years. Through his unconventional techno offerings, the balaclava-clad DJ has captured the attention of alternative audiences worldwide. As a blanket of darkness envelops the Atlas Mountains that backdrop the festival, his distinctive high tempo, high impact sound will set the tone, making for an intense and electric atmosphere at Oasis 2017.

Underground techno specialist Call Super also makes the journey to North Africa for Oasis festival this September. The British producer recently dropped his Fabric 92 mix to a stellar reaction from fans and media alike, with Resident Advisor slating him as “one of the most striking artists in electronic music right now” and Pitchfork praising his “spellbinding selections.”

Performing live at Oasis are Dial regular Pantha Du Prince, analog protagonists Agents Of Time and Italian multi-instrumentalist Giorgia Angiuli. Plus, Made to Play label head Jesse Rose will join previously announced German producer Henrik Schwarz as they bring their emotive collaborative project Black Rose to the main stage.

Manchester DJ and producer Willow also stars. Since 2015 breakthrough track “Feel Me”, the wax-loving selector has been marked out as one of the most unique talents on the house scene, not least by supporter and house heavyweight Move D who also makes an appearance at this year’s Oasis, joined in a B2B set by Electric Minds’ Dolan Bergin. Other notable B2B sessions announced today include Chloé b2b Ivan Smagghe and Alex Niggemann b2b Amine K.

Shed will make his Oasis debut this September. The Hard Wax and Ostgut man is one of techno’s most respected producers, with latest LP ‘The Final Experiment’, released through Modeselektor’s Monkeytown label, receiving wide-acclaim. Fellow Berlin techno selector Dr. Rubinstein also joins the bill, along with rising star of the London scene, HAAi.

The new acts revealed today join an incredible roster of talent at Oasis from September 15-17, including techno pioneer Richie Hawtin, Ellum label founder Maceo Plex, Chilean-American musician Nicolas Jaar, Berghain resident Marcel Dettmann, Detroit selectors Moodymann and Marcellus Pittman, and hardware maestros KiNK and Karenn plus many more. Moroccan electronic music ambassador Amine K returns for his third appearance at Oasis, along with fellow Moroccans Jaza and Unes. All this, plus the festival’s official Opening Party, which features a special 4-hour set from Ibiza main man Solomun, Kenny Glasgow b2b My Favorite Robot, Amine K and Karmon.

With sun-kissed days and starlit nights soundtracked by an impressive league of house and techno talent in the luxurious surroundings of The Source, Oasis is made complete with stage-side swimming pools, daily yoga sessions, lush gardens, adventures in Marrakech, and stunning views of the nearby Atlas Mountains. Based on a recurring nightmare Pteroglyph mastermind Jimmy MacGregor was having, ‘Red On You’ is the latest single from the Leeds UK based progressive metal outfit, taken from the forthcoming album Death Of A Prince, set for release on 23rd June.

“I used to regularly wake up in a cold sweat from a nightmare where I was constantly being chased by some sort of terrifying sinister force,” comments Jimmy. “I put the reasons for the dream down to times of high stress in my life and ‘Red On You’ is basically a way of addressing this and the need for change. It’s the idea that running away from your problems doesn’t make them go away.”

Founded in 2012 in Leeds, in the northern English county of Yorkshire Jimmy craved something to channel his musical and artistic works into and so, Pteroglyph (pronounced “terroh gliff”) was born. Inspired by his own journey through life and musical greats the likes of Devin Townsend, Sylosis and Gojira Jimmy set out to create interesting and heavy music, devoid of boundaries making for complex arrangements and patterns one would associate with progressive music.

Harriet Brown

Your very own Harriet Brown, the Los Angeles by way of Oakland singer, songwriter, producer and performer is prepping his debut full-length, Contact, out on Record Store Day, April 21, on his new label home, Innovative Leisure.

Composed, arranged, co-produced and performed by your very own himself, Contact is a concept album about communication and the contact we purposely, accidentally and inherently struggle to make between friends, lovers and strangers, be them human or otherwise. What contact do we make with our higher being, that compels us to fall back and ground our asses when we get too high past them clouds? Or what is this fear we feel as a result of broken communication, a sorta paralysis in the face of a potential threat to our collected cool? These are the questions HB’s asking and communicating 2 U all.

And when it comes 2 the live show, HB will stun U. It’s an all-in-one package deal with sensual vocals, live loops, groovin’ drum machines, manic guitar lines and thick synths, all at the hands of one being. It’s no secret that this multi-instrumentalist and producer is influenced sonically and ethically by The Artist himself. And If Prince is his king, Sade is his queen, as they reside over an ever expanding court of every genre that falls in between. He’s not what U’d expect and that’s what makes HB’s language all the more engaging. Cause its a language of disconnection, a speak that breaks down stereotypes and genres. He’s not all funk, he’s not all RnB, and he sure ain’t pure pop or rock either. Sexual and sensitive, ambiguous and androgynous, who is this alien creature, sending us encoded messages like we got ESP? Don’t U wanna know?

Matador Records is excited to announce that it will release Algiers’ sophomore album, The Underside Of Power, on June 23rd. LP pre-orders on the Matador webstore include a limited edition Walk Like a Panther 7″ and a 16-page zine created by the band.

Produced by Adrian Utley (Portishead) and Ali Chant, mixed by Randall Dunn (Sunn O)))), with post-production by Ben Greenberg (Hubble, Uniform), touchpoints on this masterpiece include everything from Southern rap to British grime to horror movie soundtracks to late-70s English industrial to Northern Soul. More vital than ever before, particularly in the wake of our current political climate, the record touches on whiteness, oppression, police brutality, dystopia, and hegemonic power structures.

Now a four-piece, with the addition of Bloc Party’s Matt Tong on drums, the Atlanta-London-NYC outfit will bring their blistering live show to major East and West Coast markets this summer, following a stadium tour with Depeche Mode in Europe

The cosmic synth/psych collective known as ARCADEA has premiered a new song called “Infinite End” today. The song is found on the band’s debut, self-titled album that’s set for release on June 16th via Relapse Records. The record is available now for pre-order at

Julian Fulton

They say to truly grow, you have to be willing to consistently go outside of your comfort zone. Such has always been the case for the multi-talented and eclectic NJ-based songwriter Julian Fulton. Mustering up the courage to first perform at age 17, Fulton has been making strides in and around the vibrant local scenes of the Garden State performing solo and with his band The Zombie Gospel.

Now, Fulton is gearing up to release his latest genre-bending vision, the Battered Receptions EP out May 12th via self-release.

Battered Receptions follows another shift for Fulton as he took the opportunity to collect his thoughts, write, and demo material as members of The Zombie Gospel pursued school or job opportunities. This led to the release of two home-recorded EPs, Reverie and Noise, as Fulton continued to challenge himself by playing out solo more and more.

The EP finds Fulton back in a more formal recording environment fleshing out the breadth of his sound with singles presenting towering smokey psych on “Howl” and pop-rock perfection on “Rosie’s Disposition.”

Look for more from Julian Fulton leading up to the release of the Battered Receptions EP, with proceeds from the pre-order going to the ACLU, and be sure to catch him at any of his upcoming performances detailed below.

Lila Downs

Grammy-winning Mexican American star Lila Downs has announced the May 26 release of her new album ‘Lágrimas Y Deseo’ (‘Tears And Desire’).

Lead single “Peligrosa” (“Dangerous Woman”) is an anthem for female empowerment. Its lyrics invite all the “dangerous” women to join her. In this song, “dangerous” subversively refers to women who are intelligent, women who are independent, women who know how to get things done; make decisions, fight and love. With this blues-influenced song, Lila sings to women who, against all odds, have put it all on the line for love, who have laughed, cried, suffered and shared their innermost feelings without fear.

The lyrics translate to: “They say I’m dangerous, that I’m painful, because I want to live this way…Let me tell you, yes, I’m dangerous, I’m scornful, because I want you for me.”

Written entirely by Lila, “Peligrosa” champions women’s autonomy and the importance of speaking and deciding for themselves. “It’s my body, it’s my life,” she notes. “These are my thoughts and it’s my right to search for my own way.”

‘Lágrimas Y Deseo’ fuses such genres as blues, cumbia, danzón, banda and Cuban son with torch ballads that perfectly suit Lila’s unmistakable, expressive contralto voice. The album consists of six original songs and seven reinterpretations of classics by such legendary composers as Agustín Lara, José Alfredo Jiménez and Álvaro Carrillo. Lila is also joined by some of Latin music’s most critically acclaimed talents, as she duets with Mon Laferte, Carla Morrison, Diego El Cigala and Andrés Calamaro.

Lila is renowned for crafting albums and delivering vocal performances that are inspired by Mexico’s pre-Columbian indigenous culture. ‘Lágrimas Y Deseo’ will delight her longtime fans and touch the hearts of all ages, ethnicities and walks of life. It is dedicated for women who are strong and tenacious, and who love to partake in culture that is empowering.

Over the course of her career, Lila Downs has released nine studio albums, while winning a GRAMMY® and four Latin GRAMMYs®. Among the world-class stages that have seen her perform are The White House, Mexico City’s Auditorio Nacional, Carnegie Hall, Buenos Aires’ Teatro Gran Rex, the Hollywood Bowl, NYC’s Jazz at Lincoln Center, Harlem’s Apollo Theater, the Pan-American Games, the Latin GRAMMYs®, the Academy Awards, and festivals such as Live Earth and WOMAD.

I Don’t Settle For Less by Nachtschade has been chosen by Dutch National TV as lead music for their show Panorama Pijbes. In this series, art historian Wim Pijbes looks at the Dutch landscape through the eyes of art painters. I Don’t Settle For Less is featured on the equally picturesque Maskerade album, which was released recently. Nachtschade: for all your psychedelic 70’s rock, funk and blues, Beatles harmonies and drunk jazzy vaudeville songs.

Bullet For My Valentine

Following the monstrous success of their December 2016 UK tour, which saw Bullet For My Valentine perform career-spanning setlists in addition to select performances of their classic 2005 debut album, The Poison, in full, BFMV will release a very special, multi-format summation of their two consecutive sold-out performances at the world famous London Brixton Academy.

Pre-orders for Bullet For My Valentine – Live From Brixton: Chapter Two are now live at PledgeMusic.

Fans will now be able to experience the intensity of both “Night One” (December 9’s “career-spanning” performance) and “Night Two” (December 10’s The Poison performance) via DVD, Blu-ray, CD, and Vinyl.

Sargent House is proud to announce the addition of Belgian trio Brutus to its management and label roster. Sargent House will soon release the band’s debut album Burst in North America and the rest of the world in partnership with Hassle Records, the band’s European label. “My reaction was immediate, the second I heard the first track I was hooked and knew I wanted to be part of this band’s team,” says Cathy Pellow, who also manages such artists as Chelsea Wolfe, Deafheaven, Russian Circles to name just a few.

Hailing from Leuven, Belgium, Brutus create a pummeling, meteor-shower of sound. Vocalist/drummer Stefanie Mannaerts mixes black-metal blast beats with math-rock flourishes whilst belting out the most impassioned vocals that shift from deceptively melodic to outright larynx-punishing in the blink of an eye. Meanwhile, guitarist Stijn Vanhoegaerden takes ethereal post-rock tones to hardcore punk levels of speed and energy alongside Peter Mulders’ powerful sub-frequency shift. The three conspire to make a sound as monolithic and frantic as it is emotive.

“For this record, I had to dig deep into hidden and guarded emotions,” Stefanie reveals. “It’s not so easy to sing about myself, so I used the third person. And it’s also not easy to drum a blast-beat over a melodic vocal to capture some exact feelings. ‘All Along’ is for a loved one, a band, the friends around me that are actually able to stand me.”

Having gigged rigorously across Belgium, in April 2016 Brutus decamped to Vancouver, BC to record Burst. “We sent an email to Jesse Gander (Japandroids, White Lung), his reply with sushi emoji’s was an instant ticket,” Stefanie explains. “The time in Canada, living together and working in the studio was refreshing, inspiring, healing and confronting at the same time.” Burst is the perfect title for this debut album, then. “It’s the perfect title for me,” Stefanie adds. “It’s a ball of emotions, ready to burst with frustration and anger. But also with tons of energy, love… everything at once.” Trouble comes in threes… and so does Brutus.

Burst will be available digitally worldwide on May 12th, 2017 and physically on June 30th, 2017 via Sargent House. Pre-orders for LP/CD via HelloMerch and download via iTunes.

Tony Moore

The ballad, his first new recording for some years, is the result of an international collaboration with top Nashville session drummer Tommy Harden (Reba McEntire) and Gibson endorsee KT Parker from Cardiff on bass.

From being an early member of Iron Maiden through playing keyboards with Cutting Crew (‘I Just Died In Your Arms’) to providing stages for artists like Ed Sheeran, KT Tunstall and Jamie Lawson early on in their careers, Tony has had an eclectic life in music.

Ever a supporter of new music, Tony has recently been working with emerging artist ILONA as co-writer, producer and touring musician. A break in work schedules gave him the opportunity to release some of his own material again, he explains “I chose ‘Perfect And Beautiful’ first as it’s always generated great feedback from audiences when performed live. It was a natural choice to lead with.”

Chris Wienk, Program director of Exit 97.7 FM, New York, says of the song “It’s great when you wait a long time for one of your favourite musicians to come with new music – and you hold your breath as you begin to play it. Then, as you listen, you can exhale with the beauty that’s been created. Tony Moore is that musician for me. With ‘Perfect and Beautiful’ Tony has given us something that is just that – perfect and beautiful.”

‘Perfect And Beautiful’ comes out on miniMAJOR MUSIC through Absolute and will be available worldwide on all digital platforms.

The highly anticipated, debut EP from C3 Records’ first signee, Welles, is out today. The band is fronted by Jehsea Wells, a prolific songwriter, virtuoso guitarist and monstrous vocalist who recently relocated from Ozark, Akansas to Nashville. Early enthusiasts are comparing the 23-year-old’s distinguished growl and striking lyricism to rock legends, while he readily self-describes the sound as “burnt toast.”

Since 2009 rolled melodic metal act Nicumo are about to release their second full length album. Album is titled “Storms Arise” and it will be out on 7.7.2017 through Inverse Records.

“Storms Arise” follows band’s well reviewed debut “The End of Silence” (2013, Inverse Records) and takes a step towards even more versatile scales of music and emotions. The album contains eleven tracks with unexpected rhythmic elements which will make your head banging, while the melancholic melodies forces you to rise your fist up in the air and cry. Versatile soundscapes mesmerize the listener and takes a hold until the last note. “Storms Arise” strengthens Nicumo’s position on northern metal scene, and gives it a timeless masterpiece to keep the scene alive.

“Storms Arise” was recorded and mixed at Joshua Music -studios during 2016 by Olli Tainio from Lucky Punk Productions, who has worked as an mixing, recording and an assistant engineer in various projects such as Callisto, SAKIA and his own band Blind Architect. Mastered by Svante Forsbäck (e.g. Amorphis, Volbeat, Apocalyptica, Rammstein).

The Big Drops

Currently making strides in the constantly evolving Brooklyn music scene, NJ-based rockers The Big Drops’ origin story couldn’t be any further from pavement and concrete. The band was formed in 2011 when brothers Greg (lead vox, rhythm guitar) and Vramshabouh Kherlopian (lead guitar, backing vox) went to live together in a small log cabin for three years. They bought their own recording equipment, and went through numerous lineup changes before finding Caleb Estey (drums) and Steve Donahue (bass) in 2015.

Now, The Big Drops are readying up to release their debut full length, Time, Color, out June 23rd via self-release.

Channeling genre-hopping forebears, Time, Color finds The Big Drops running through a sonic wilderness inspired by left-of-center pop music of the late 1960’s & contemporary musicians with subtle electronic tendencies.

“We feel like our music touches on a variety of different vibes and colors,” shares Vramshabouh. “So we like to think the overall theme of this album is diversity of life, the different emotions there are, and how we can express different feelings while still being the same person. Essentially, life is complex and beautiful, is the theme.”

Two Islands

Heaven Press Photo

Sometimes a track comes out of nowhere with no explanation needed, ‘Heaven’ is one of those, a gloriously shimmering slice of infectious pop where you can almost feel the beat of the setting summer sun through your headphones. Welcome to the world of Two Islands…

We’ve always felt as if we existed on our own island, like outsiders looking in. Taking musical cues from the classic songwriting synonymous with Liverpool but dressing our songs in a modern and unique way; aiming to follow in the lineage of Northern bands whose originality and creative ambition have helped to alter our perception of what is possible in pop music.

We want to reclaim the romance of falling in love with an artist solely through their songs, something that has been lost in the internet era. We’re not looking to hide, we just want to engage through our music. We are Two Islands.

‘Heaven’ is Two Islands brilliant first marker ahead of a stream of output to come from the band this year.

Amy Steele

Amy Steele is a 24-year-old singer/songwriter from London. For the last five years she has pursued music in tandem with studying for a degree in medicine. Having recently completed her degree, Dr. Steele has her sights firmly focused on her music, and with good reason; she’s bona fide. Recently spending time writing and recording her debut EP, after releasing two previous singles to great ovation after signing with CTMG Records, Amy has already built a loyal following. Her first single ‘Bury You Deep’ saw her quickly amass over a million views on You Tube once the stunning young soulful singer handed out the stems to some keen dance producers to remix, including Catch 44 aka Ras Kwame of Capital Xtra who did a banging garage remix. Amy’s second single ‘The Wolves’ release exceeded the first and clocked up over two million listens and counting with features and plays across UKF and BBC Radio 1.

For the past year she has been in the studio working with Alex Wells (Rizzle Kicks), and various international producers to create a record that reflects her artistry and who she is musically. ‘Graces’ serves as the first single from her upcoming EP entitled ‘Memories in Watercolour’.

‘Memories in Watercolour’ is an 8-track reflective EP, with each track examining a different stage of a relationship. Each track on the EP is a different memory, or colour, that has been slightly degraded. ‘Graces’ is the memory of hopefulness in a new beginning. An exploration of the apprehension in being parted from someone, tempered with the wistfulness of hope. ‘Graces’ showcases Amy’s vocals as well as her strong ability to write lyrics which are in turn vulnerable, provocative and perfectly delivered in her unique and distinctive style.

‘Graces’ comes with five remixes: Truth (Dubstep) Hodge Bristol (Electronic) Icicle (DnB) Journeyman (House) Embody (Electronic), that are each set to be released over

Carl Louis

Growing up on the Nordic coastline, producer Carl Louis has spent much of his career broadening his musical horizons with a number of notable credits to his name. Originally a member of electronic duo CLMD, Louis co-produced a number of notable releases including ‘Stockholm Syndrome’, which went multi-platinum in Norway and was also premiered on Pete Tong’s Radio 1 show. Afterward, Louis left the group in 2014 to pursue his own personal ambitions.

Having spent the last few years producing singles for other artists, including ARY’s debut single ‘Higher’, as well as releasing his own mini-album in 2015, Lewis has now returned to deliver his latest full-length ‘Memory Lane’.

While its title may suggest a more nostalgic sound, his latest material is a smorgasbord of contemporary influences and inspirations. With a largely classical direction, the mix of ideas and directions on his latest release are clear throughout.

Whether it is the ‘Random Access Memories’-era Daft Punk sound of ‘Human Being’ or the uplifting trip-hop style of ‘Easy’, ‘Memory Lane’ manages to gather together a whole range of sounds and is able to pull off a cohesive release.

The new record sees the producer create an uplifting and powerful collection of tracks, which sees him collaborate once again with Spotify Spotlight artist and ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ vocalist Frøder. Memory Lane will be released Friday 26th May 2017 via Toothfairy.
