This Is Us Soundtrack

Available now for pre-order, This Is Us (Music from the Series), the musical companion to the globally-adored show is set to release September 15 via Universal Music Canada, the country’s leading music company. Three days ahead of its release, This Is Us: The Complete First Season will be available on DVD, so fans can relive the memorable moments alongside the music from the hit show. Combining instantly recognizable hits and classics, an original song and a compelling score, the soundtrack features 20 songs curated by the show’s Creator/Executive Producer, Dan Fogelman, music supervisor Jennifer Pyken and composer/musician Siddhartha Khosla. Each musical element is carefully woven throughout the series with songs that emphasize a clearly defining moment or serve as a gentle guide through the characters’ complex emotional journey.

Nominated for 11 Emmy Awards including “Outstanding Drama Series”, This Is Us chronicles the Pearson family across the decades: from Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca (Mandy Moore) as young parents in the 1980s and 1990s, to their now adult kids Kevin (Justin Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz) and Randall (Sterling K. Brown) searching for love, fulfillment and healing in the present day. This grounded, life-affirming dramedy reveals how the events in our lives – both big and small – impact who we become, and how the connections we share with each other can transcend time, distance and even death. Also starring Chris Sullivan, Susan Kelechi Watson and Ron Cephas Jones, This Is Us Season 2 premieres Tuesday, September 26 at 9PM EST on CTV.

The soundtrack opens with the instantly recognizable tone-setting music cue from the series’ debut episode, “Death With Dignity” by Sufjan Stevens, and concludes with Khosla’s, “This Is Us Score Suite”. A rare cover version of Peter Gabriel’s, “Come Talk To Me”, by Khosla’s critically acclaimed band Goldspot, which has been praised by Gabriel himself, is featured alongside the original version composed by Khosla and Chris Pierce. Performed by Brian Tyree Henry in the pivotal Season 1 episode, “Memphis”, the soulful, Stax-inspired song marked the beginning of the audience’s connection with the show and its characters, topping Billboard’s US Blues Singles chart at #1 for four consecutive weeks and reaching #12 on iTunes’ Top 100 Songs chart.

Being an early fan and supporter of Goldspot, This Is Us creator Dan Fogelman continued with the personal theme of familial relationships by incorporating the band’s track, “Evergreen Cassette (Tape Mix)”, into the show. The song draws on Khosla’s early childhood experience of living in India with his grandparents, while his parents were in the U.S. working and attending graduate school. His only form of communication with his parents was an evergreen-colored cassette tape his mother sent him, so she would speak to him, sing songs and tell him stories.

Available on September 12, This Is Us: The Complete First Season DVD includes all 18 episodes as well as the companion series, The Aftershow, that explores the emotional dramatic performances with the cast and creators.

From the writer and directors of Crazy, Stupid, Love, the team of Dan Fogelman, John Requa and Glenn Ficarra come together again for This Is Us. Produced by 20th Centrury Fox Television, This Is Us is executive produced by Dan Fogelman, Jess Rosenthal, Ken Olin, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, Charlie Gogolak, Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger.

Seth Glier

GRAMMY®-nominated singer/songwriter Seth Glier has premiered his new album TODAY in advance of the official release this Friday, August 25th.

Birds is the follow up to his 2015 critically acclaimed If I Could Change One Thing. In early 2016, Seth gave aTEDx Talkin which he discussed how gratitude is not a state of peace or arrival, but a bitter battle for balance and reason. This was inspired after losing his brother Jamie to severe autism and led to the start of the writing of Birds. In keeping with matters close to his heart, Seth also tackles a few social issues on Birds. “Water on Fire” tears into fracking while “Justice For All” challenges the death penalty. A powerful, primal cover of the Buffalo Springfield classic “For What It’s Worth” rounds out the collection. Full track listing can be found below. The album is currently available for pre-order on iTunes. Seth has also collaborated with Pledge Music – fans will be able to access uniquely branded experiences and Pledge-only exclusives with each pre-order of the album. PRESS HERE for more information.

Today, Hype Machine is streaming Widowspeak’s highly anticipated, new album in full HERE!. They said of the full-length “Their previous album leaned into light-hearted Americana. By contrast, Expect The Best presents heavier atmospherics, influenced by Hamilton’s time in Tacoma, Washington, and marking the first time they’ve recorded as a quartet. The album balances this newfound energy with the band’s characteristic intimacy.” Expect The Best will be widely available via Captured Tracks on August 25.

Up to now, Widowspeak has released singles “Dog,” “When I Tried” and “The Dream,” all warmly received by critics and fans alike. In support of the new album, the band will tour the US this fall, beginning in Boston on September 8 at The Great Scott and concluding in Brooklyn at Rough Trade on October 13. All dates are listed below including newly confirmed shows in the US and Europe.

Expect the Best is the follow up to 2015’s All Yours. While previous albums were conceived as a duo with lead guitarist Robert Earl Thomas, the new LP finds Widowspeak playing to the specific strengths of the current touring incarnation (James Jano on drums, Willy Muse on bass). The album, recorded by Kevin MacMahon (Swans, Real Estate), exhibits a marked increase in energy that reflects the band’s live show and the organic way it was created: by four people in a room together. The band collectively navigate dynamic changes with subtlety and restraint; the nine tracks here reach highs of wide-eyed lushness and plumb the depths of resigned melancholy. Their usual palette of dusty guitars and angular twang are still here front and center, but now with a bit more 90s homage, even if abstractly.

Following in the tradition of Spritualized, Tame Impala, Bon Iver, comes a new news-ready single guy with bandy moniker. Its name is Silverplanes and he is Aaron Smart, a man whose vividly expressive, effortlessly melodic songcraft marries subtly insistent hooks and emotionally precise lyrics.

As is befitting, BUZZBANDS LA exclusively premieres Silverplanes’ graphic, quasi-animated video (directed by Jon Danovic) for the single, “Falling Asleep,” a song which inspires just the opposite. It is the first of a meteor shower of great new material from Smart (36 songs, to be exact), set to span over 3 separate EPs, a double vinyl set and some extra tracks, all produced by Jack Douglas, renowned for his vintage work with John Lennon, Aerosmith, The Who and Cheap Trick. What’s more, each forthcoming EP, set for release on Volume Unit Records a sub label of Los Angeles based MAKE Records, is mixed by a different, notable Fader Master.

To that end, the first EP drops in late September and is beautifully hashed out by Shelly Yakus, whose extensive resume includes albums with U2, Tom Petty and Lou Reed. Subsequent EPs to roll out through the remainder of 2017 will credit mixing to Jay Messina, known for his work with Aerosmith, KISS and Supertramp; and the legendary Geoff Emerick, who worked on some of the Beatles’ most innovative releases as well as albums by Badfinger, Elvis Costello and Jeff Beck.

The meeting of Smart’s fresh talent and the seasoned skills of his collaborators lend depth and resonance to his canon of memorable original tunes. All three EPs find Smart, who sings and plays drums and rhythm guitar, anchoring a studio band comprised of bassist Billy Mohler, guitarists Jason Johnson, Randy Ray Mitchell and Sean Woolstenhulme, and keyboardist Matt Rohde.

“This group of songs,” Smart states, “feels so vast to me. There’s a lot of variation in the songwriting styles and recording approaches, but there are also some sonic threads that go through all of them.”

“Having my own studio has been an amazing luxury and it definitely influenced the way that these recordings turned out,” Aaron notes. “The drum sound is huge and thick, and the guitars have a smooth ’70s-meets-’90s-meets-now sound going on. Despite all the songs we’ve recorded, we haven’t ever felt rushed, because we can come in any time we want and stop any time we want. I’m a vintage recording gear addict, and Jack is as well, since he’s seen the evolution of the best gear from the late ’60s until now.”

Smart also acknowledges Douglas as a major force in the new material’s direction.

“Jack really helped me to shape the songs,” he says. “What originally made me want to work with him was knowing that he recorded Imagine with John Lennon, and then listening to it and thinking what he must have thought when it was happening. Also, the fact that he worked on ‘Sweet Emotion’ by Aerosmith, because sonically that song is ridiculously amazing and intricate. And I love the realness and honesty that he captured on Lennon’s Double Fantasy. We’ve become really good friends over the past few years; the man is salt of the earth and I love him.”

Sol Heilo

Following a successful career in Norwegian folk-tet Katzenjammer, today sees Sol Heilo embark her solo genesis with the announcement of her debut LP ‘Skinhorse Playground’ – released October 6th via Propeller Recordings.

Lead single and album opener ‘America’ released today, sets the tone for what is to come – a sparkling ode to the unknown, and the promise of new places and faces. It’s indicative of not only the project, but Sol’s overall process.

There’s a real sense of freedom within ‘America’ – mirrored in the song’s arresting lyrics. Sol is writing and performing with no boundaries, no expectations – and she sounds more liberated than ever. Grandiose strings swirl around the folk-tinged pop instrumentation, peppered with rich harp passages, with Sol’s hushed Norwegian tone delicately tip-toeing between the breaks. It’s a hugely accomplished debut single – but not in the slightest surprising given Sol Heilo’s well-established reputation as a musician and songwriter in her own right.

New album ‘Skinhorse Playground’, produced by Hasse Rosbach, was penned during a time of personal unrest that, rather ironically, paralleled the peak of Katzenjammer’s career – a twelve-year pursuit culminating in three albums, multi-million streams, tours spanning Austin to Australia, and praise from the likes of The Guardian, The Quietus and BBC Radio 6Music, alongside personal plaudits from David Byrne and Steve Lamacq.

The band earned bonafide export status, with an enamoured international fanbase driving sales in excess of 500,000 and hitting Certified Gold status in Germany with sophomore release ‘A Kiss Before You Go’.

“In the beginning, there are no consequences. You’re unaware of the boundaries, and you have nothing to lose” Sol muses. In many ways, Skinhorse Playground is a chance at just that – a new start, and a renaissance made all the richer for the experiences that shaped a brighter, braver Sol Heilo.

‘America’ is taken from Sol Heilo’s forthcoming solo debut LP Skinhorse Playground – out October 6th via Propeller Recordings.

Latest Single from Therman Munsin off his debut album “Sabbath” featuring Detroit’s own Guilty Simpson
over a grimy laced Roc Marci beat. Raw Hip Hop at its finest!

Bluku Music-Ceasar

After almost two years out of the music industry due to releasing a book about his time spent in a Dubai prison entitled ‘Killing Time’, Ceaser is back with a total banger entitled ‘Bang Bang’. A menacing but also fun tale about past times round East Ham. The hard hitting single is taken from forthcoming project RnG which will be released on Grime father D Double E’s Bluku Music later this year.

Brian Hill

Brian Hill’s debut album ‘And The Noh Starrs’ is set for release this Friday August 18th via Modern Sky USA. In anticipation of the release, What Youth premiered the “pure post-punk breathing rebels'” song “Sarah’s Alright,” which shows lead singer Hill in a “total split personality Bowie and Lou Reed.” Since Friday, L.A. Record is streaming the “agile and artful album” in full, which is “like a Television Personalities or Mirrors take on Lou Reed’s 70s solo work: sarcastic and self-deprecating, yes, and proudly scruffy, sure, but also secretly sort of sincere and affecting.” “It’s smart, sharp and potent music,” they added, “made by people who’ve listened to their record collections carefully.”

It’s no coincidence both publications cite similarities with the work of several key musicians of the 70s New York City scene, ‘And The Noh Starrs’ is Brian Hill’s love/hate letter to New York, an exploration of his life and experiences in the city, and the anguish of having to leave it to love it. In his songs, he writes about his experiences surviving his first few years in the city, the surreality of New York City life, and the intriguing characters he met along the way both in New York and while traveling around the world – a stalker, a friend called Sarah, and the city itself as a living entity. The songs can appear manic at times, and meditative at others – just like the way this city makes him feel.

Today, Re-TROS premiere “Hailing Drums,” the opening track of their upcoming album ‘Before The Applause’ (due September 15th on Modern Sky USA). The nine-minute song melds Fugazi-influenced machine gun drums, crunching heavy metal guitar and spacey Eno-esque synth washes. “This song is like a scene” lead guitarist/singer Hua Dong tells Post Punk Magazine, “the vagrants are hailing, beating drums and bones, and sinking the crowd into silence.”

The band’s “wonderfully creative and avant-garde” (Post Punk Magazine) sophomore LP has already been lauded “one of the best albums yet to surface in 2017” by Toronto Star’s Ben Rayner. They “condense the frisson of their past work into momentary bursts that fit neatly into a newfound Krautrock pulse” noted the Chicago Reader, while Consequence of Sound praised the single “Red Rum Aviv,” a “manic, colorful rush.”

Re-TROS will be touring North America supporting Xiu Xiu in September.

GWAR logo w TBog tag 2017 (smaller)

On October 20th, GWAR will release a new studio album entitled “The Blood of Gods” via Metal Blade Records. In support of the new album, your Lords and Masters will leave their arctic slumber and return to the road to cause aural (and anal) devastation across North America. Joining in the chaos will be Ghoul, Doyle (10/20-11/5), He Is Legend (11/7-12/10) and U.S. Bastards. The tour kicks off in Richmond, VA on October 20th and runs through December 10th in Detroit, MI. The tour includes a stop in New York City on Halloween as well! A complete list of dates can be found below.

The Berserker Blothar had this to say about the upcoming tour:
“Humans, we are coming to tear your world apart with a live performance the likes of which has never been seen on this or any other planet! This album, “The Blood of Gods,” is the greatest thing since French toast. Just hearing these songs performed will result in an instant paroxysm of weeping, gnashing of teeth, and the uncontrollable voiding of your filthy bowels. Now, we are taking the whole bloody shit show on the road, with the most spectacular, blood-drenched, gruesome, and terrifying rock concert of all time. Don’t miss your chance to sacrifice yourself to GWAR at a venue near you!”

Bohabs! Be the coolest corpse in the pile! Don’t miss your chance to pledge your allegiance to GWAR each night when they rape and pillage your town. Head to to take part in “The Lords and Masters VIP Experience”.

There are only 5 VIP TICKETS available per show, that’s it, so don’t wait.

Concerning the album; “The Blood of Gods” is nothing less than a sacred text chronicling the rise of humanity against their makers, and the massive battle between GWAR and the forces of all that is uptight and wrong with the world. Along the way, the band challenges the sins of their great mistake, from politics, pollution, and organized religion, to fast food, and factory farming. Humans are shown as what they are; a parasitic disease that must be eradicated before they suck the planet dry. Meanwhile, Sleazy P. Martini, the crooked entrepreneur who discovered the Scumdogs, and has always envisioned them as a sort of horrific boy band, finally managed to convince the group to write a hit song called “I’ll Be Your Monster.” If all goes according to plan, it may be just stupid enough to work!

CLOAKROOM has just shared “Concrete Gallery,” a melancholy-imbibed molasses-thick single from their forthcoming sophomore album Time Well, out August 18 on Relapse Records. Accompanying their premiere of the song/video NPR state that“Cloakroom’s burly, yet ruminating stoner-chugged shoegaze rolls on a dusty Americana path, like space-rockers Hum meditating on the stark, yet bold melodies of Jason Molina.”

Lady Katherine

Lady Katherine will digitally release the new EP Harmony on August 21st 2017. This is the first release since singer/songwriter/creator Heather Donaldson moved from Los Angeles to her hometown of Sacramento. The ethereal 5 song EP follows Lady Katherine through various journeys of love and life experience.

Reflecting on the album process Heather said, “I had the freedom to create whatever I wanted, without expectation or criticism. I wrote and demoed the songs in my living room and sent them to my friends in LA to write bass, guitar or drum parts.” Heather flew to LA to record her friend Seth Eubanks’ ambient guitar leads in his apartment. Singer Celia Chavez (currently on tour with Enrique Iglesias) and Heather took a trip to Joshua Tree, borrowed a guitar from David Catching of Eagles of Death Metal, made a make shift studio out of their AirBnB where Chavez cut background vocals.

The album was produced by Mathias Schneeberger who is responsible for more awesome albums than you can count including: Foo Fighters, Afghan Whigs, the Twilight Singers, Lemonheads and Van Bran 3000 to name a few. This is the third album collaboration for Mathias and Heather. “Mathias is like a master German wizard,” claimed Heather, “I came to LA for a week over Thanksgiving and we reconstructed the songs and cut vocals. Mathias understands my vibe. I don’t need to explain what I’m after, he just gets it.” Drums were recorded in studio by Brant J Cole. This is the second Lady Katherine album for Cole who is currently involved in several Los Angles projects.

The digital album will be released August 21st 2017 on all major digital platforms including: ITunes, Amazon, Spotify, and Pandora among others. Lady Katherine has 2 albums currently out including Paint the Walls and All I Need.

Normanton Street

This track sees the band broaden their sound beyond hip-hop and soul whilst still maintaining a hint of these elements. There seems to be a mixture of old school garage and disco which is delivered through guitar, keyboard, bass and drums. Both the feel of the track and the video were inspired by the band’s journeys around Europe over the past couple of years. ‘It’s Been A While’ has already proven to be popular with the fans that have heard the track this summer. The band decided to add the song to their set list during some of the festivals. Since then, fans have been awaiting the official release and music video.

Nicholson & Ned (both on guitar, bass and vocals) have been close friends since childhood. After moving to Brighton to pursue music they soon met Phoebe. Ever since, the three have written countless songs and performed live throughout UK, Europe and USA having played everywhere from SXSW in Austin, Soundwave Festival in Croatia, as well as headline shows in Brighton, New York City, Sweden and across the whole of Europe.

The trio form the core of the band and perform live with various other close musicians who occupy the drums, keys or saxophone when necessary. Normanton Street have been known for their incredible live shows and this latest single is sure to enhance their reputation as a great sounding band on record.

The smouldering talent that is Leaone has returned with a sublime new single ‘End of The World’ – the first track to be taken from his forthcoming EP ‘Wild Horse Ride On’, released through Fierce Panda this Autumn.

Leaone’s sweetly sobering and sombre tracks have already seen him described as the missing link between Leonard Cohen and Lana Del Ray. While, on his debut ‘Oh, My Sweetest Sin’, released this summer, Leaone found himself winning support from Huw Stephens on BBC Radio1, as well as the local BBC Introducing teams in Norfolk and Suffolk and on BBC 6Music, and performing in support of Emmy The Great and Roddy Womble.

With his second EP ‘Wild Horse Ride On’ to follow this Autumn, the troubadour has gathered another glittering collection of tracks for the release. Produced by Jack Gourlay (James Arthur, Jess Glynne, Jack Garratt, Tom O’Dell) and mixed by Jim Lowe (Stereophonics), as well as supported by the Arts Council England, Leaone just keeps giving us a reason to come back, and the excellent ‘End Of The World’ sets the perfect marker for the new release.

‘End Of The World’ is out now through Fierce Panda and Leaone’s second EP ‘Wild Horse Ride On’ will be out later this Autumn, also on Fierce Panda.

The Lymbs

Up-and-coming Bay Area band The Lymbs today unveiled their compelling, expertly choreographed video for their new single: “Colors & Clockwork”. The single has gained initial media buzz, described as a track with a “studied simplicity, an edgy intimacy…a spare, intriguing arrangement that patiently builds a percolating groove”. Think: Radiohead meets The Black Keys.

The Lymbs formed in Albuquerque, NM where they were incredibly popular in the local scene and heavily covered by local press. The indie-blues duo will be releasing a much-anticipated new EP (“Neon”) this Fall, showcasing a raw, yet refined, grunge/garage sound that subtly weaves in electronic atmospherics. Facebook page.

About the song “Colors and Clockwork”, Gage Bickerstaff (Guitar/Vocals/Synth) explains:
“Colors and Clockwork” is the best representation of the direction we’ve decided to go stylistically; writing with more instruments to help push us out of the two-piece format. We experimented with recording sounds of objects that weren’t instruments as well, and that is how the intro of Colors, along with other moments throughout, were created. The intro was added in later to help create sense of a beginning to our EP. We wanted a chaotic shuffle that felt like it was moving towards structure, and then it drops in with a heavy bass synth to put you directly into the song; as if you are on some sort of ride.”

FLO was first introduced to the international music scene in 2002 to great critical acclaim, as the Floacist of Floetry. 15 years later we find the award winning modern day poet not only entering a new chapter of her ever evolving career, but even more excitingly, we also find her in an entirely new volume of her life, newly engaged to former ‘Stone Roses’ drummer Robbie Maddix and nearing the release of her 4th solo album ‘True.’

“’True.’ is my best work so far…by far. It’s all in the alignment you see…life is good right now!” FLO

As the old saying goes…life imitates art and the first single from ‘True’ is the aptly titled ‘GOOD LIFE’. Impeccably produced by FLO’s long time friend and collaborator, Grammy nominated producer Chris ‘Big Dog’ Davis, this undeniable summer anthem oozes with classic feel good flavour, authentically laced with pure head nodding hip hop vibes and hypnotic neo soul grooves!

In the accompanying video for ‘GOOD LIFE’ FLO shares her world with us for the first time and it is overflowing with family, friends, food, laughter and plenty of love. Directed by Fabien Soazandry (award winning director, film maker, animator), Darwood Grace (director, film maker, poet) and FLO herself, the song title is personified in this cleverly captured visual ‘docu’video’ narrative. Shot in FLO’s actual home we are invited in as FLO shares her Jamaican British culture with her fans around the globe. With the way the world seems to be right now, it’s a breath of truly appreciated fresh air to be encouraged to gather with the ones you love to spread love. Surely this is what the ‘GOOD LIFE’ is all about?

Indianapolis-based “upcycled alt-rock” band, Moxxie released their new sophomore EP titled ‘Havoc’. It is now streaming and for purchase on iTunes, Spotify, Amazon, Google, Apple Music, and Soundcloud. These four new tracks are a true representation of what they have developed and evolved into since forming in 2014, and we are very proud of them!
