Hiero Day

For the fourth year in a row, The Hieroglyphics are producing one of the largest festivals in their hometown of Oakland, California. Centered around a full day of musical performances on three stages, the festival also offers food and drinks from local vendors, a skate park, graffiti wall, an area for b-boy battles, a kids’ area, and much more. Last year’s attendance topped over 22,000 people, warranting a change in access to the event. The all day event will include performances by Compton’s Most Wanted, P-Lo, Kool John, and Jay Ant of HBK Gang, Luniz, Peanut Butter Wolf, Nx Worries, The Coup, Domo Genesis, Res, and many more.

Hiero Day 2015 will be hosted at the intersection of 3rd and Chestnut Street in Oakland from 11am until 7pm on Monday September 7th, 2015. Due to exceeded capacity and expenses at last year’s event, an entry fee of $19.93 will be charged for general admission. The event is expected to sell out – tickets may be purchased in advance at However, youth who are active in their communities as members of a Bay Area-based nonprofit organization need only to present their membership ID to gain free access. For anyone who needs financial assistance, they are encouraged to email to submit a 250-500 word essay about what they do to improve their community.

30m Pool Alma Haser Artwork Lo-res

Their first EP This Could Be a Bridge caught the attention of tastemakers such as Pitchfork, Rolling Stone and Dummy, while the follow-up, Uptight EP, was featured in Clash, Interview Magazine and The Line Of Best Fit.

These releases chart the journey of a band slowly, meticulously developing their aesthetic and sound. Since formation, Robbie Stern (guitar, previously of Cajun Dance Party) and Stephanie Davin (vocals) have remained as songwriters, and the band has expanded to include five members.

Throughout, they aim to exploit and explore the tension between the power of playing in a big live band and the intimacy of home recording .This is seen clearly in the detailed recording of 30m Pool, in which lurching guitar lines and sing-along harmonies weave in and out of each other, and a focus on musicianship is at the fore. This song has been a staple of live sets since early days.

Post Louis are currently working on their first LP, which they are self-producing and will consist entirely of new songs. The release of 30m co-incides with the five band members starting intense pre-production at London’s Norwegian church.

Artwork is once again by Alma Haser

To mark the release, the band is playing a headline show at the Waiting Room. More shows will be announced soon, including some intimate acoustic gigs.

Our Last Night

With a European tour on the horizon, The American Post-Hardcore group Our Last Night (Trevor Wentworth, Matthew Wentworth, Alex “Woody” Woodrow, Tim Molloy) wanted to surprise fans with a special cover video to continue the excitement. Our Last Night, known for their wildly-recognizable covers of Taylor Swift, Miley Cyrus, Katy Perry are back with a brand new cover video for “Can’t Feel My Face” by The Weeknd.

Yesterday, the band revealed their ‘Younger Dreams’ European tour featuring special guests Palisades and Crooks. The tour kicks off October 21st in St. Petersburg, Russia where the band will return for the second time this year. Palisades and Crooks will join Our Last Night on October 27th in London, UK at Islington Academy. Tickets go on sale this Wednesday, August 26th. Head over to for more information.

Our Last Night are having a tremendous summer with the release of their self produced/mixed/mastered fifth studio album, Younger Dreams (which debuted at #1 on the Heatseekers new artist chart and #17 on the Rock chart) and an exhilarating run on the 2015 Vans Warped Tour. Off of their hit album, Younger Dreams, the band unveiled three music videos, including “Home” and their follow up, “A World Divided”. In a world where uniqueness is often overshadowed by the norm, in “A World Divided”, Our Last Night are breaking the barrier. With lyrics “We need to break the cycle of hate,” this do-good band is ready to set the mold on what should be accepted in our society. “A World Divided” is a song for those that fight everyday to showcase their own skin, those that are not afraid to step out of bounds, and a declaration that Our Last Night are ready to build a movement of acceptance. Matt and Trevor Wentworth were executive producers and the sole directors of this music video. And finally a more comical video, Our Last Night, released “Rode To The Throne” last month.

Fans can head over to to purchase Younger Dreams!

New Orleans rock act, Variants, have announced that their new EP ‘Commonwealth’ will be released on October 23, 2015. Recorded and produced by Jay Maas of Getaway Studios [Defeater, State Champs, Title Fight], ‘Commonwealth’ features four smooth, soulful tracks and will be the group’s second release. ‘Commonwealth’ will serve as a follow up to 2014’s ‘The Concept of Color,’ and the single off the EP, “Bitter” can be heard here.

The band explains, “‘Commonwealth’ differs from ‘The Concept of Color’ in a few ways. Firstly, the overall sound is more raw, which is what we wanted, and why we wanted to work with Jay [Maas]. More importantly, we believe that ‘Commonwealth’ is more ‘us’. We recorded ‘The Concept of Color’ in January 2014, and recorded ‘Commonwealth’ in March 2015. In the time in between we learned a lot about what works best for us musically, and which direction we want to go in. I’m not saying we’ve figured everything out, as each day we learn more about ourselves and each other as musicians, but ‘Commonwealth’ is definitely the closest we’ve come yet to achieving our own unique sound.”

The Underachievers

Last week The Underachievers debuted the first video “Evermore” from their upcoming sophomore album Evermore – The Art of Duality due out on September 25th. The video was a 3-part movie that featured pieces of three songs (“Chasing Faith”, “Rain Dance”, and “Allusions”) on the album. Today the duo release the syrupy “Allusions” track in it’s entirety. “Allusions” is a mixture of sinister raps and woozy sounds that may or may not induce hallucination. The Brooklynites have also made a few special pre-order bundles available in the UA merch store for purchase today (link below). Give “Allusions” a spin and remember to share.
