Violent Femmes

(New York, NY) – Violent Femmes have announced details of their eagerly awaited new LP. WE CAN DO ANYTHING arrives via [PIAS] on Friday, March 4th.
Violent Femmes’ ninth studio album and first full-length collection in more than 15 years, WE CAN DO ANYTHING is among the most provocative and playful in the legendary trio’s remarkable canon. As the album’s title makes plain, the band – singer/songwriter/guitarist Gordon Gano, bassist Brian Ritchie, and drummer Brian Viglione – remains as intrepid and fearless as ever before, traversing genre and emotion via their immediately identifiable, still utterly idiosyncratic, mash of rambunctious folk, minimalist punk, cubist blues, cosmic jazz, and backwoods rock ‘n’ roll.
Produced by Jeff Hamilton – a longtime member of the Horns of Dilemma, Violent Femmes’ ever-evolving cabal of multi-instrumentalist backing musicians – and mixed by the legendary John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile, Dinosaur, Jr.), WE CAN DO ANYTHING was recorded in studios in Brooklyn, Nashville, Los Angeles, Milwaukee and Denver, while on tour during the summer of 2015.  The album’s cover image was drawn by Barenaked Ladies’ Kevin Hearn, who also contributed accordion, guitar, keyboards, and backing vocals on several recordings. Rounding out the live touring band and members of The Horns of Dilemma are John Sparrow and Blaise Garza who has been playing with the band since he was 14 years old.
Gano gathered the album’s material by diving headlong into his own voluminous archives, listening to ancient cassette demos and leafing through old journals in search of suitable songs. Among his finds were such new classics as the murderous “Big Car” and the fractured fairy tale, “I Could Be Anything,” Of the album’s more recent songs, “Foothills” and “Holy Ghost” were both penned with the team of Sam Hollander and Dave Katz (Train, Joe Cocker), while “Issues” – co-written by Gano with Hollander and Better Than Ezra’s Kevin Griffin (Christina Perri, Howie Day) – stands out as vintage Violent Femmes, as lyrically cutting as it is musically kinetic. Penned by Gano’s big sister, gifted folk singer/songwriter/artist Cynthia Gayneau, “What You Really Mean,” the album’s sole cover, might as well be an original composition, hewing remarkably close to the frontman’s own sonic sensibility and lyrical heart. Colored by explosive arrangements that veer on a dime from hard charging stomp to intimate melancholy, WE CAN DO ANYTHING is Violent Femmes at their very finest – joyous, exciting, and eternal.
Violent Femmes will celebrate WE CAN DO ANYTHING with a full-scale North American headline tour. Complete details will be unveiled soon – for up to the minute news and information, please
WE CAN DO ANYTHING arrives hot on the heels of Violent Femmes’ acclaimed 2015 EP, HAPPY NEW YEAR. Recorded in Ritchie’s adopted home of Hobart, Tasmania as the band prepared for a sold out New Year’s Eve 2014 concert at the world famous Sydney Opera House, the EP is highlighted by “Love Love Love Love Love” and “Good For/At Nothing” both of which are accompanied by animated companion videos streaming now at the band’s official YouTube channel. HAPPY NEW YEAR is available now on the iTunes Store and other online retailers.
One of the most beloved bands of the golden age of indie rock, Violent Femmes returned to action in 2013 with an acclaimed performance at Coachella, their first live appearance in several years. Drummer Brian Viglione (The Dresden Dolls, Nine Inch Nails) came aboard in 2013. The Violent Femmes embarked on a wide-ranging tour that included headline dates and ecstatically received festival sets around the world. The Guardian applauded their London show as “a triumphant rampage through their back catalogue,” declaring the band’s self-titled 1983 debut to be “a cult classic of teenage alienation – a sneerier, post-pubescent Catcher in the Rye, if you like, with added nocturnal emissions and rattling acoustic bass solos.”
Violent Femmes came together in 1981 and were quickly ranked among the era’s most inventive and original, constantly pushing forward with their singular blend of folk and punk, sarcasm and spirituality. The trio released eight studio albums and more than a dozen singles, among them such iconic classics as “American Music,” “Gone Daddy Gone,” “Nightmares, “Add It Up,” “Kiss Off” and of course, “Blister In The Sun.” Violent Femmes’ remarkable three-decade career earned them cumulative sales in excess of 10 million worldwide, with 1983’s VIOLENT FEMMES earning RIAA platinum certification eight years after its initial release.

The Devil Makes Three

The Devil Makes Three, the three piece string-band consisting of Pete Bernhard, Cooper McBean and Lucia Turino, have spent the better part of ten years wowing crowds and gaining fans at their exuberant live shows, one by one from the small house parties in Santa Cruz, CA where they started to huge festivals in the US like Newport Folk and Lollapalooza. Coming off a successful tour of the UK and Europe, the band return to the US in support of their critically acclaimed release
I’m A Stranger Here which got 4 stars in MOJO Magazine.

The band will play some of their biggest shows to date including The Wiltern in Los Angeles and two nights at the Fox Theatre in their hometown of Oakland. The Deslondes, the New Orleans country-soul outfit topping critics Best-Of lists will open.

While The Devil Makes Three’s string band influences are a distinctive mix of roots, blues, old time and back-country stomp, the modern subject matter of their songs keeps listeners looking ahead. “The lyrical content isn’t about hard-rock miners or…the things Woody Guthrie would have written about. I don’t like the idea of becoming a historical re-enactment,” Bernhard said.

Their modern take on classic themes has won accolades from critics across the board, with NPR describing the trio as “acoustic roots music with a relentless beat in mind at all times,” going on to praise their “whiskey-drenched, ramshackle fury, and “fiendish intensity.”

CHVRCHES are having a busy holiday season having just completed a massive headlining tour of both the US and their native UK. The band is currently in the States for a string of shows including San Francisco station Live 105’s Not Silent Night and Los Angeles’s Alt 97’s December to Remember at The Henry Fonda Theatre. They made a stop at The Late Late Show with James Corden on Monday. Watch the performance here:

Chvrches released their critically acclaimed new album Every Open Eye this past fall, debuting at #8 on the Billboard 200. Both the album and their songs are already landing on many year end lists, such as Entertainment Weekly, Rolling Stone, Spin, Paste, AV Club, and more!

As a special holiday treat, LA producer Goldroom has gifted us with a remix of CHVRCHES “Leave A Trace.”

Brisbane/LA based RnB songstress, ROMY, adds more kindling to the already roaring fire that is her rise to fame with a self-directed dark & steamy video for debut single ‘Wild Heart’.

ROMY’s mysterious, inky video captures the anxious struggle we all feel to break free of social expectations, and the bravery and loneliness involved in succeeding.

From the time we are able to think, we are fed two very contradictory lessons. One, that nobody’s perfect; and two, that the punishment for not ‘fitting in’ and pursuing impossibly high standards is cruel and unusual. “Be yourself,” we’re told – “as long as you don’t fall far from the crowd.” In a world like this, it can feel lonely, dangerous and nigh impossible to remain defiantly independent. To hold your head high and walk as a lone free spirit among sheep. To have a heart that is uncontrolled, untamed, wild.

Kojey Radical and Frank Gamble

A unique display of social commentary in favour of human compassion, Kojey Radical has never been one to shy away from speaking out in a way that connects with a new generation of listeners. Joined this time by the enigmatic Frank Gamble who produced and features on the record, Blind Eye provides a sound bed of cultural back breaking drums, cinematic synths and infectious groove inducing piano chords, juxtaposing Kojey’s vivid poetical portrait of injustices suffered in the middle east and other neglected parts of the world.

Blind Eye connects in an instant and continues to grow more melodic and insightful upon every listen. Kojey offers a perspective inspired by empathy and understanding speaking directly to the listener. “Prayer for the lost ones, tweets for the victims. I could see it all when I listened, smoke choked to silence.” Every line paints a picture. Blind Eye does not choose sides but rather encourages us to look to each other for better understanding of humanity, breaking issues down to our most basic needs and instincts. Love, Power and Survival.

“The artists I love and respect are the ones that painted a picture of the times they live in. I think it’s easy to sometimes forget the power and effect of music. The injustices suffered in the world can often make you feel helpless and I’ve always felt I could do more with my artistry. I’m thankful I grew up in such a melting pot of culture because it allowed me to listen and learn and appreciate different perspectives. I wanted to put a sense of compassion in my art and give something for all generations to listen and appreciate

Frank Gamble and I simply invite you all to love, overall.” – Kojey Radical. After much anticipation, Kojey Radical is ready to reveal his official second EP following the acclaimed Dear Daisy : Opium project will out February 2016 and is currently titled 23 WINTERS.

“It’s been two years since my last project and I’m thankful and appreciative for everything it accomplished. I didn’t think it would take me this long to put out another project but I like to give my music room to grow and resonate… and I had a lot of living to do but I’m ready now. This project will encapsulate my growth into a young man turning 23 and how each year made my outlook on life a little colder. It really centres around the conversations and advice I’d receive from my dad and is easily my most honest work to date.”

Kojey has just announced his next headline show which will take place on January 28th at Oslo, Hackney accompanied by Lily Mercer of Rinse FM/Beats1, Rising dynamic hip hop duo 808INK and the incredible singer songwriter Bobii Lewis with tickets now on sale.

After 7

It’s been said that true talent never dies. And in the midst of a classic R&B revival, the original group line up of platinum R&B vocal trio After 7 makes a remarkably dynamic return with their unmistakable sound. Riding the wave of their new Billboard Adult R&B hit “I Want You” and an upcoming performance at the 2015 Soul Train Awards, the group is primed for one of the most notable comebacks of the coming year. Reunited with esteemed Grammy winning producer/ songwriter Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds and Daryl Simmons after a 20-year hiatus, After 7’s new single and forthcoming album marks a fine return to form of a vocal group that adeptly distills the essence of soul.

While the tides in musical trends had ebbed and flowed in their absence, true R&B fans remained hungry for After 7’s patented formula of silk & soul. And the catalyst for their imminent return was the same person responsible for their introduction: Babyface. But as Babyface entered a prolific creative period while preparing material for his own upcoming solo release, his thoughts drifted back to his brothers’ group with every composition. And after Kevon, Melvin, and Keith heard some of the songs he had in mind for them, that missing element was clear and apparent: After 7. To shore up After 7’s vocal prowess, a somewhat familiar face was added to the family affair: nephew Jason Edmonds.

After 7 entered Babyface’s Los Angeles recording studio Brandon’s Way in the summer of 2015 to begin work on a few tracks. The result was “I Want You,” a smooth uptempo groove and an unshakable testament to a group whose vibrant vocal performance has consistently engaged fans over the decades. “It’s about wanting and accepting every part of that special person,” says Keith. “It’s that inspiring; it’s that energetic.”

With the favorable renewed interest in their reunion in hand, the group returned to the studio to begin work on their upcoming album. In the meantime, the single “I Want You” began to make waves at radio stations across the country – helping the tune reach #19 on the Billboard Adult R&B Songs chart. This was confirmation that the group’s audience was eagerly anticipating a new After 7. As a follow up and contrast to the lead single, the seductive “In And Out” bears the mark of a classic Babyface slow jam which showcases the group’s tradition as robust balladeers. Offering a delightfully surprising change of pace, “Loving You All My Life” finds the group challenging themselves vocally while effortlessly delivering in the vein of a tender love.

“It’s probably the most different of any song that people have heard from After 7,” affirms Kevon. With work on their new album nearly complete, the group’s new material is certain to be rooted in the old while adeptly referencing the new. And with the success of songstress Jazmine Sullivan’s 2015 single “Let It Burn,” which uses a prominent sample of their 1989 hit “Ready Or Not” as a foundation, there’s no doubt that the R&B/ soul world-at-large has undoubtedly been primed for the return of their classic sound. Planned for a 2016 release, the album promises to the group to its rightful place as R&B royalty in a musical landscape yearning to be refreshed.

“Historically, Babyface and Daryl Simmons have a lock on the ability to take raw talent and guide it in the proper direction,” Kevon says with confidence. “With their guidance, we’re taking every diamond, pearl, and precious stone that we have in terms of creativity and putting it all into this record. The moment is now.”

Charm Designer

Colombian doom-gothic metallers Charm Designer will release their sophomore album “Everlasting” on February 19th, 2016 via Inverse Records.

The follow-up to 2008’s “Blood Sounds” was recorded with legendary producer Waldemar Sorychta, known for his work with Samael, Tiamat, Lacuna Coil, Sentenced and Moonspell among others, being the first time for him to produce a Latin American band. The artwork was designed by Romanian artist Costin Chioreanu (At The Gates, Arcturus, Vulture Industries, Primordial, Arch Enemy, etc.). The lyric video for the title track “Everlasting” which is the new album’s first single and was also done by Costin.

“We’re thrilled to finally have a release date set for our new album, since it’s been a while from when it was finished and it has been a painful task to hold our breath until now. But well, I guess that is the way it should have been in order to match the huge effort all this has meant to us. This is a work of pure and genuine determination” says Charm Designer’s founder and bassist Diego M. Giorgi.

“It has been a long and amazing ride for us seeking to reach this point, and well, to be able to work with Waldemar took the project of the album to a whole new level. Also, Costin did a brilliant job with the artwork for the album. We’re absolutely pleased with the outcome of all this.”
