LAUNCH Music Conference & Festival is set to return to the beautiful Lancaster, PA for its tenth year, April 12 – 15, 2018! The instrumental conference and festival has welcomed some of today’s top musicians and music executives to speak and perform to a crowd of artists and industry go-getters. The jam-packed event, full of panels, seminars, parties, events, and performances, have welcomed artists such as Panic! at the Disco, Atreyu, twenty one pilots, Meghan Trainor, Foxy Shazam, PnB Rock, Yazz the Greatest (B. Gray of TV’s “Empire”) and this year two time Grammy-Nominated Lancaster natives, August Burns Red. Members of August Burns Red have offered their expertise at several different LAUNCH annual events, but will be performing for the first time at the festival. “After attending LAUNCH for many years as a panelist, I’m excited to finally be able to attend as a performer for ABR’s 15 year anniversary show. It’s hard to believe it’s been 15 years and there’s no place we’d rather celebrate than with a show in our hometown of Lancaster, PA,” says guitarist, J.B. Brubaker.
August Burns Red will perform on Saturday, April 14th at Freedom Hall in The Lancaster County Convention Center in Historic Downtown Lancaster in celebration of their 15 year anniversary as a band.

In addition to their well-known current line-up and impeccable live show, they will also include guest appearances by members of the band’s line-up during their earliest years, from both their debut Looks Fragile After All and Thrill Seeker records. Also during LAUNCH, fans will get to view the world premiere of the Lancaster Metal Documentary, “Barn Burner, The Ride of The Lancaster County Metal Scene” which spotlights August Burns Red, Texas In July, This or The Apocalypse, and more. The documentary takes the audience on a remarkable journey of the heavy/metalcore scene from Lancaster County, an area considered to be a quiet, steady conservative Christian community. The London Latin Music Festival

The London Latin Music Festival, La Linea, will return in 2018 with a heady mix of debut commissions, one-off UK performances, and live premieres from global superstars and rising stars across the Latin music world. Running for 10 days at the end of April, the festival will utilise a range of London venues and boasts a stand-out line-up that features everything from traditional Cuban music, Latin rumba, ska and punk from Spain, Chilean classics, genre-spanning sounds from Mexico, and future Iranian/Afro-Cuban inspired electronica.

The first acts confirmed for next year’s festival are former Buena Vista Social Club frontman Eliades Ochoa, who returns to the UK for the first time since the iconic band’s farewell tour in 2015 to make his solo debut at the Royal Albert Hall, the UK premiere of a special tribute to Latin American composers in Hollywood, Sonorama, which nods to the likes of Juan García Esquivel, Lalo Schifrin, Maria Greve, and Johnny Richards in a big brass and electronic reinvention led by Mexico-City based composer and performer Camilo Lara, and global phenomenon Mexrrissey, who will premiere their brand new show ‘La Reina is Dead’ at the Barbican.

Also on the initial bill is Chilean-French singer Ana Tijoux, who returns to London for the first time since her sold-out appearance at La Linea in 2015, diverging from her hip-hop roots to explore a more intimate sound and style through her new project Roja y Negro: canciones de amor y desamor. The festival also welcomes back London-based Iranian/Cuban quartet Ariwo, who will deliver their boundary-pushing sound that combines the raw energy of Cuban rumba with the deep melancholy of Iranian electronic music to the Village Underground, iconic Senegalese outfit Orchestra Baobab, and Catalonian supergroup La Pegatina, who will showcase their unique mix of Latin rhythms, lively urban rumba, ska and punk to audiences at the Electric Brixton.

CLANN is the music alias of producer, artist, filmmaker and self-taught composer Sebastian McKinnon. On his latest album Seelie – part of the ongoing KIN Fables multimedia project – he paints an otherworldly picture populated with some of the most spellbinding music of the year.

The word ‘clann’ comes from Old Irish meaning ‘family’: something that is at the heart of the project, with the family of collaborators adding their unique talents to Seelie including the signature ethereal vocals of Charlotte Oleena, as though singing words from an unknown or long forgotten language, and heart-wringing string performances by violinist Chloe Picard. On Seelie, they have refined their sound, while not losing touch with their cinematic arrangements and airy vocals.

Nowhere is the combination of their talents more powerfully expressed than on lead single ‘Closer’. McKinnon’s sparse beats are the perfect bedrock for Oleena’s waif-like vocals, with Picard’s mournful strings further adding to the record’s emotional resonance.

Influences are many and varied and can occasionally be picked out, from the Sigur Ros-like grandeur of ‘Once Again’ or the Burial-esque shuffle and crackle of ‘Dark Angel’, but always are these drawn with CLANN’S own strokes, fleetingly reminiscent but always maintaining its own haunting aesthetic.

“Music is more than about making people feel – for us, it’s also about making them dream. The songs we create inspire our visual film work, and the films themselves inspire us to create more music in turn. The art forms feed each other in a constant loop, creating a world we hope people will wish to fall into and explore. That’s the mission within the KIN Fables project.” CLANN

CLANN’s Seelie is but a component of the larger, expansive vision called KIN Fables – a veritable cinematic “story-world” in its own right. Beyond the music, there are short films, original artwork and even a graphic novel currently being written and illustrated by McKinnon. The project is currently housed within McKinnon’s production company Five Knights Productions, and the team’s ultimate goal is to have KIN Fables culminate into a feature film, currently in the late stages of development.

With two releases to his credit, including the acclaimed, Captured Tracks-released LP, Groove!, Jamil Rashad AKA Boulevards is ready to bring his latest vision of modern-funk to the masses. Hurtown, USA is out now channeling forbears like Prince, Rick James, and Earth Wind & Fire with Rashad’s unique flair.

From an early age, Rashad’s father, a R&B Radio DJ, exposed him to jazz, blues, and R&B. This pushed him to get involved in the city’s local music scene early on in his youth. In his teens, he embraced the punk and metal scene in his hometown of Raleigh, NC; genres that would later go on to influence Rashad’s songwriting by way of their tight technical precision and power. After an art school education and several stints in local bands, Rashad rediscovered and returned to his first true love: funk.

The expansive new LP from Boulevards is undeniable in its world building, painting aural portraits of love found on the dancefloor, nights you hope will never end and the adrenaline stoked in betweens before the sun comes up. Featuring collaborations with Neon Indian, Laura Reed and more, Rashad has crafted a new, fully formed classic evocative of a funkier Blood Orange’s Freetown Sound.

Pow Pow Family Band-Modern Sky

Today, Pow Pow Family Band debut “Tiny Brush Parade” “a dreamy, vulnerable beauty that you’ll want to hear over and over again” (Wonderland Magazine), off their debut ‘All Right’ slated for February 9th via Modern Sky USA.

Speaking on the track, frontman Miles Robbins shared with the fashion outlet: “Whether through meditative, spiritual practice, or the use of psychedelics, it seems as though the most ubiquitously reported feeling that results from the alteration of one’s perception is the desire to share that experience with others, no matter how ineffable it may be. ‘Tiny Brush Parade’ is a song about that feeling.”

Frankfurt neo wave indie rock band NEWMEN just released new single ‘Debbie Harry’. Captivating with its impelling beat, staccato guitars and swirling synth sounds, which, you might have guessed already, are remotely reminiscent of Blondie. Even if Debbie Harry isn’t really playing a part in the lyrics, the connection to the legendary singer is visible in the ‘Debbie Harry’ music video. The adaptation of the cartoon ‘Rock & Rule’ with Debbie Harry in one of the leading parts, emphasizes the homage to the singer and NEWMEN’s musical ties to the music of the 80s.

August Rosenbaum reveals enchanting music video!

Today the music video for a live rendition of August Rosenbaum’s “Credo, Pt. II (feat. Coco O.)” is released. It’s created by Danish cinematographer Jasper Spanning. Shot in one of Copenhagen’s most beautiful buildings, the iconic Marble Church, the video features a duo performance by August & Coco O. of their mesmerizing autumn ballad. This video was made in collaboration with Prxjects, a culture laboratory initiated by Mercedes-Benz.

August Rosenbaum describes his new album as “a score in search of a movie” – and that concept influenced Jasper Spanning’s approach to making this video. Jasper Spanning says:
“I was fascinated and challenged by the idea of doing a non-narrative performance video for this song. It’s something I wouldn’t normally do, but the purity of the song alongside Coco’s vocal inspired me to create a downtempo video in a very iconic setting. August’s idea of creating music in search of a movie made me think that I could recreate a scene from a movie I love. Ever since seeing Romeo+ Juliet as a teenager that movie has been a stylistic icon to me – and despite that it may not have aged perfectly, the end scene, where Romeo finds Juliet in a church, is still amazingly beautiful”.

The Marble Church in Copenhagen sets the stage for the live performance in Jasper Spanning’s video. August plays a prelude on the organ ahead of the stunning live performance that sees August on a piano in the middle of the church and Coco O. singing in front of the altar. Together the music and Jasper’s cinematic imagery forms an all-encompassing breathtaking intensity.

Jasper, Coco and I have been friends since we were teenagers and I’m so proud of them both, they are so amazingly talented and it’s so nice to have created a space where the three of us could create this together. We were allowed to use The Marble Church for a whole evening, and I’ll never forget being alone at night in the most beautiful building in Copenhagen. We decided to scratch the musical arrangement all the way down to this duo-setting and just these elements speak for themselves. I’m very proud.”

London’s Lydian Collective will release their second single Legend Of Lumbar on December 1st – hot on the heels of their debut release ‘Thirty One’, which Clash described as “making genre-crashing, boundary-smashing music seem effortless”. It will be available globally on all streaming and download services.

The band have already attracted a huge online following – with 1.4 million views for their YouTube channel and a host of solo credits between them (from Roots Manuva to popular iOS game Monument Valley). Their unique combination of accessible melodies, accomplished musicianship, hypnotic rhythms and uplifting music has won fans around the world – before they have even released their highly anticipated debut album.

Thirty-One has had a huge reception on Spotify, attracting playlist additions in its first week putting it in front of over 250,000 users. As we speak, the track has been streamed nearly 70,000 times.

Drawing inspiration from Jazz, Electronica, World Music and Film, the band have had early support from key UK tastemakers like Nick Luscombe at Flomotion/BBC Radio 3 – and have played at major Central London venues such as the Royal Festival Hall Clore Ballroom.

Legend Of Lumbar is the second single from the debut album ‘Adventure’ (set for release in early 2018), and it shows off the band’s manifesto. The band take more of a groove-based approach than they did on Thirty-One, with inspiration from Aaron Wheeler’s electronica alter-ego Laszlo. The killer rhythm team of Ida Hollis and Sophie Alloway lead the way, with another killer melody from Aaron Wheeler and Todd Baker (keys & guitar). Todd was the brains behind the soundtrack for the recent iOS game Monument Valley – and you can hear hints of this in the new single.

Maggie Schneider

Last month, the bright-eyed and bubbly new artist, Maggie Schneider, announced her brand new EP, entitled Tinted Glasses due out January 12, 2018. With a culmination of fresh, honest, and open-hearted lyrics, Schneider writes her songs about her love of life and optimistic point of view. The 4-track EP, produced by Rian Dawson of All Time Low at Track Happy Studios, is about navigating life, relationships, growing up and delves into how her life has changed since her debut release, Insomniac. Off the forthcoming release comes “Chuck Bass” a feminist anthem that encourages women to stand up for their rights. Schneider continues, “it’s a sassy song about women valuing honesty and integrity in relationships, over wealth and status. It’s about how I can’t be bought. My song is a positive reminder of how much strength we have as women, and I think that this is an important topic to be expressed in music. It is up to us to celebrate each other and make a difference in the world without diminishing out male counterparts.” Inspirer coins Schneider as one of the “voices for a new generation of feminist badasses” and fans can view the brand new music video for “Chuck Bass” below!

Also off the forthcoming EP, Tinted Glasses, comes “695 North Avenue” which released in November via Sick Snaps. They stated “Schneider combines her singer/songwriter style with a bit of a pop-rock touch to bring the song to life…Her writing is upbeat, but will fill you with feelings of nostalgia through her storytelling approach in her lyricism.” The song is about the Atlanta-based venue The Masquerade, which she coins as a major part of building her musical career. As an ode to her hometown venue, Schneider continues,

“It’s a place dear to my heart, and I feel like I’ve grown up there. 695 North Avenue was the original address of the venue before they moved to another space last year, and it will always serve as my musical home. So many of my favorite memories took place in this building, from singing live with State Champs to a sold-out crowd, to dancing the nights away with my best friends. I am so thankful for all of the moments I’ve spent at The Masquerade, and for all of the support that the management and crew have given me over the years. This song is dedicated to them and all that they’ve done for both myself and the Atlanta music scene as a whole.”

You already know the Drumhedz. You just don’t know that you know the Drumhedz. They’ve been playing on your favorite albums for years, setting the tone or keeping time at the best shows you’ve ever seen, making the young stars sound like legends, and the legends sound like gods, quietly stacking Grammys without ever delivering an acceptance speech, and moving onto the next gig with the simple satisfaction of a job well done. They’re the session players and the road warriors, or, “Cats that were looked over, but they’re bad,” in the words of the Drumhedz bandleader Chris Dave, who’s drummed for everyone from Adele to Bieber and Dolly to D’Angelo. “They all have stories like mine.” The group’s self-titled debut LP, which will be released on Blue Note Records on January 12th 2018, showcases a family of musicians whose credits nod to every pillar of modern sound, getting together to do things to music they couldn’t on anyone else’s project.

Led by Chris Dave, the drummer who has made a name for himself as one of the most influential musicians of his time, he credits jazz music as his strongest influence, being exposed to legends of the genre such as Miles Davis and John Coltrane from a young age. Whilst studying at Howard University in Washington D.C, he met acclaimed producers and former Prince associates Jimmy Jan and Terry Lewis, who set him up as the drummer for R&B band Mint Condition. Dave has since gone on to work with a vast array of artists ranging from Justin Bieber to D’Angelo, as well as three equally diverse Grammy-winning albums between 2009 and 2012: Maxwell’s BLACKsummer’snight, Adele’s 21, and the Robert Glasper Experiment’s Black Radio. In the personnel credits for those LPs, you’ll find the foundation of the Drumhedz.

The self-titled album Chris Dave and The Drumhedz blends elements of funk, soul, gospel, hip-hop, and jazz until they’re one indistinguishable groove, but this should not be mistaken for a big jam session. Dave’s compositions are like his drumming: precise but subtly tweaked, syncopated to allow the merging of multiple ideas, and flexible enough to triumph in all manner of tunings. These compositions are brought to life by nearly 50 Drumhedz, with a core crew featuring the likes of Pino Palladino (bass), Isaiah Sharkey (guitar), Cleo “Pookie” Sample (keys), Sir Darryl Farris (vocals) and Keyon Harrold (horn), to old familiars like The Roots’ James Poyser, Stokley Williams (Mint Condition) and Shafiq Husayn (Sa-Ra), to fresh guests like Anderson. Paak, Bilal, DJ Jazzy Jeff and Phonte Coleman.

Syrra have just released their debut track ‘I Can Be Mean’ this December – along with a wonderfully mesmeric video directed by Laura Brown – and you might not hear a better track all year.

The duo’s signature brand of dark pop was conceived in London, where Swedish singer Aneta and Berlin-born producer Ea Akilat first came together to write. As long time friends, the pair discovered the best way to be there for each other was to create a musical world of their own, where they can let go of their day-to-day struggles. Due to unforeseen circumstances, the duo later moved their production to a shed in the shadows of the Portuguese mountains, creating a truly inimitable atmosphere.

The name Syrra – a Swedish term for ‘sister’ – came to Aneta in her dream, and perfectly encapsulates the essence of the project. The duo set out to create a place they can come with their flaws, insecurities and struggles and support each other like sisters, remembering nobody is perfect. Their songs strive to find beauty and strength in vulnerability, in a world bombarding us with expectations.

Syrra’s debut track ‘I Can Be Mean’ was mixed by Mikko Gordon (Thom Yorke, Alpines and FEMME) and is an introduction to both Ea’s layered production, and Aneta’s sincere vocal style. With a new album in the works for 2018, Melbourne rockers Palace Of The King give a taster of the forthcoming studio release with new single, ‘It’s Been A Long Time Coming’, out on 8th December on Golden Robot Records.

The track hurtles along the rock & roll tracks; think a mix of AC/DC, ’80s hair rockers Poison and early GnR, a radio track at its finest for the 21st century.

The group’s singer/ guitarist Tim Henwood says:
“Our new single ‘It’s Been A Long Time Coming’ was actually the last song we recorded for the new album. We had a bunch of tracks already in the can that had been recorded in between touring, but I felt it would be worth having one more studio session at the end of the They Who Rock tour with Screaming Jets and Baby Animals while we were on a roll and the band was playing so well. So, we headed back to Medici Studios in Geelong (about an hour from Melbourne), set up with me engineering and playing guitar behind the desk and the guys in the live room, and we started jamming on a few ideas Sean (keys/ guitar) and I had been throwing around in our heads.
The result was that we captured a great, raw energy and the songs came up awesome. Once I had finished overdubs we sent it off to Machine (Clutch, Lamb Of God) for mixing and it’s sounding killer! I can’t wait for everyone to hear the rest of the album.”

Twin Jackal

Twin Jackal are a band on the move! The South London based rock band are to release ‘Cruel’, their follow up single to ‘Humility’. Both songs are from their forthcoming debut EP ‘Optimo Animo’ which has all the hallmarks of a future classic.

We are pleased to unveil ‘Cruel’ a forceful contemporary rock punch that’s both adrenaline-powered and lyrically eloquent.

Producer Chris Coulter (Arcane Roots, Jamie Lenman, Arctic Lake) recorded and produced the song in Decimal Studios, his riverside studio in late 2016.

Twin Jackal formed through a love of underground, experimental rock and post-hardcore bands such as Arcane Roots and Marmozets, along with the starrier likes of Biffy Clyro and Million Dead. With the anger of hardcore or metal, the fuzz of stoner rock and always searching for the true emotion of pop and indie rock, they have truly found their own unique sound: a mind-boggling mix of math rock rhythms, unpredictable guitars and soulful vocals sewn together into a fierce wall of sound.

DAMNATION PLAN RELEASES “MAZE OF DESPAIR” MUSIC VIDEO

Finnish progressive melodic death metallers Damnation Plan have released their second music video “Maze of Despair” off their latest album “Reality Illusion” (Inverse Records, 2017).

Damnation Plan songwriter, lyricist, drummer, director Jarkko Lunnas comments on the song&video:

“Some of the biggest battles we face happen inside our own minds. It’s a survival story about leaving your past behind, shedding your skin, not letting your past drown you.”

The band’s second full length “Reality Illusion” was released with rave reviews across metal media, including Finland’s biggest metal magazine Inferno stating the release “by far best melodically catchy progressive metal coming from Finland in years!”

The band’s second single, a modern metal version of the late Ronnie James Dio’s “Don’t Talk To Stranger” was featured on Spotify’s Best New Metal Tracks at its release.

Red Raven Down

Finnish, Seinäjoki based metalcore band Red Raven Down released a new EP Phantoms on December 15th 2017 via Inverse Records.

Phantoms was recorded, mixed and mastered by Mika Autio (HallaFreakquency).

The band was formed in 2016 but every member already have quite a history working with music. Even though the band is relatively new it has already been featured on all the major media outlets. Earlier this year the band’s singer Jani Korpela participated in The Voice Of Finland and performed Slipknot’s ‘Psychosocial’. The performance was so stunning that it rapidly spread almost every essential music media like Loudwire, Alternative Press, Metal Hammer, Metal Injection just to name a few.
