Every Friday, we will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across our virtual desk.

Cheltenham Jazz Fest


Stars from all corners of the globe will once again descend on the Regency town of Cheltenham for the return of the Cheltenham Jazz Festival. Boasting a unique programme packed with UK debuts, one-off performances and exclusively curated concerts, this year’s festival, which runs from May 2nd to 7th, is set to deliver its trademark, broad-appealing mix of the best classic and contemporary jazz, soul, blues, and pop on offer from an array of international powerhouse acts, and the brightest emerging talent.

Joining an impressive raft of high-profile names already announced for this year’s festival, including the likes of Kamasi Washington, Randy Crawford, Donny McCaslin, Beth Hart and Nigel Kennedy, are visionary singer-songwriter Van Morrison, multi-million-selling Corinne Bailey Rae, award-winning pop-jazz singer Caro Emerald and chart-topping Irish vocalist Imelda May. Rick Astley will be exploring jazz and the Great American Songbook backed by the Ronnie Scott’s Big Band and internationally revered food critic Jay Rayner fronts his much-lauded piano quartet. 2018 will also see the festival’s first curated concert series by DJ and broadcaster Gilles Peterson, which will feature shows from neo-soul frontrunner Jordan Rakei, MOBO and Jazz FM Award-winning drummer Moses Boyd’s Exodus, and the hotly-tipped UK singer-songwriter Zara McFarlane. Artistic Curator Jamie Cullum has once again selected some of his stand-out acts for the festival, with Mercury-nominated prog jazzers Dinosaur, cinematic nu-jazz outfit Portico Quartet, and the first ever UK performance from Christian McBride’s Big Band among his top picks.

Other heavyweight names confirmed for the 6-day event are British jazz giant and multiple MOBO winner Courtney Pine’s celebrated collaboration with soul singer Omar, legendary funk crew Tower of Power, Roller Trio with an exclusive set premiering new material, inimitable US jazz vocalist China Moses, boundary-pushing sounds from venerable British saxophonist Evan Parker’s Trance Map+ for what will be their second ever performance, Seun Kuti, the son of the legendary Afrobeat pioneer Fela Kuti, with his late father’s band Egypt 80, and previously unheard material from Empirical.. Kansas Smitty’s House Band return to the Daffodil following their sold-out takeover last year to present their best of the programme from their East London bar. Also back by popular demand are electronic musicians Iain Chambers and Dan Nicholls with their Recomposed series, which this year will see performances from Swiss vocalist Lucia Cadotsch and Kit Downes’ fierce piano trio ENEMY, who launch their new album at the festival, reworked and artfully mixed into an entirely new piece of music at the Parabola (“an exhilarating ride” – The Guardian). A unique cross-arts project is also set for the Parabola, which brings together the dynamic Birmingham-based band Hansu-Tori with dancers from Birmingham Royal Ballet to perform excerpts from their show Wolves Are People Too, inspired by the iconic Japanese animation film Wolf Children.

Long-standing festival partner BBC Radio 2 will host live onsite broadcasts across the weekend, including a Rollin’ On The River themed Friday Night Is Music Night which will see the BBC Concert Orchestra and Guy Barker Big Band plus a host of acclaimed guest vocalists including Shaun Escoffery and Vanessa Haynes on a musical journey along the Mississippi River. There will also be live broadcasts from Clare Teal and Jo Whiley, as well as from Cerys Matthews and Gilles Peterson on BBC Radio 6Music.

Representing the younger generation are London-based contemporary jazz guitarist Rob Luft, the breathtaking vocals of Jazzmeia Horn, who blew audiences away with her performance at this year’s Grammys ceremony, US soul singer Jalen N’Gonda, best known for his 2017 breakthrough hit “I Need You”, Jamie Cullum’s festival pick vocalist Anoushka Lucas, and a double bill from 24-year-old rising star vocalist Hannah Grace, and last year’s winner of Glastonbury’s ‘Emerging Talent’ competition Josh Barry.

As well as providing a platform for a new generation of artists, the festival offers a range of inspirational opportunities for young people: introducing jazz to preschoolers in the Yamaha Discovery Space; initiating primary-aged children in the joy of jazz; providing performance opportunities for local school jazz bands; and offering behind the scenes access and one-on-one career advice from industry professionals, which will be available for the first time this year by appointment. The winner of the inaugural LetterOne ‘RISING STARS’ Jazz Award, 19-year-old guitarist Tom Ibarra, will start his tour of the seven major jazz festivals in Europe at Cheltenham.

The 2018 Cheltenham Jazz Festival is hosted in a tented festival village in the town centre’s picturesque Montpellier Gardens, featuring the Henry Westons Big Top stage, Jazz Arena, Free Stage, Yamaha Discovery Space, a programme of family activities and events and a food, drink and market area. The Festival reaches beyond the festival village into Cheltenham bringing jazz to venues throughout the day until late into the night. These include Cheltenham Town Hall, Cheltenham Ladies’ College Parabola Arts Centre, Hotel du Vin, Malmaison and The Daffodil, as well as a dynamic free fringe line-up …around town with over 90 shows across the festival weekend.

Tickets go on sale to members from February 28th and on general sale from March 7th.



The DE MORTEM ET DIABOLUM has recently announced that its fourth edition will take place on December 14th and 15th, 2018, in the Columbia Theatre in Berlin. Now, the organizers have published the first three bands and are prooving again their great taste by bringing excellent underground bands on stage. First confirmed bands are: ENDEZZMA, OPHIS and STREAMS OF BLOOD.

Groove-infused experimental post-rock/metal outfit VEXES have been turning heads in the heavy rock and metal communities with their buzzworthy upcoming debut, Ancient Geometry, out February 23, 2018. Today, after releasing three intense new tracks – “Lift”, “Plasticine”, and “Helion” – the band is switching it up by releasing a guitar playthrough video for “Helion”, featuring guitarist John Klagholz.

Klagholz tells Guitar World: “We produced and engineered this record ourselves, which fortunately allowed us to really take our time and find the tones we wanted… For the playthrough, I used my custom Balaguer Growler Baritone in 27″ scale with a single volume control and a built-in kill switch, made by Joe Balaguer at Balaguer Guitars. It’s an excellent company from Pennsylvania for which I am proud to be an endorsee… I couldn’t be happier with the guitar.”

“Helion” is in steady rotation now on Sirius XM Liquid Metal and even reached the Devil’s Dozen countdown in its first week on air! The rock band WakeUpCall released few months ago their album If Beethoven Was a Punk, a very special concept album, along with the release of an entire comic book with the same title and a special smartphone/ipad app who connect the music album to the story of the comic book. The band were on tour in the last month to promote the new album with more than 50 shows around Europe, Russia and China.

This week WakeUpCall released a new video/single: Boys Don’t Cry. The song has been written togheter with famous russian composer Tchaikovsky and through its dark atmosphere the band sing about how hard is to never let people see inside you, always look strong outside even if inside your heart is broken.

Danish alt-rock duo PBSM recently dropped their second EP ‘Dance Floor’ – a five track release that has given them a staunch reputation as a contemporary danceable, dark and cold duo offering a perfect soundtrack for going clubbing incognito.

PBSM are now ready to reveal the video for the EP’s title track which features TED Talk star and Boston Marathon survivor, the All-American dancer, Adrianne Haslet. Adrianne perfectly complements the theme of the song that revolves around going to your happy place, and portrays her battle in getting back to the dance floor after losing her left leg in the tragic Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.

The song initially took form in a basement in Kreuzberg, Berlin where the duo had arranged for a jam and recording session with British, drummer Joe Dilworth (Stereolab, Cavern of Anti-matter). Upon returning to Copenhagen PBSM finished up the recordings and further assistance on the drums was provided by Lasse Herbst (Fallulah, Spektr, Choir of Young Believers).

The film production company Mellow CPH got involved and the idea of bringing in a dancer as the main character telling the story of the song was born. PBSM explain, “We reached out to American dancer Adrianne Haslet to hear if she by any chance would consider flying out to star in our music video. Which she did. And since being told that there was a one in a million chance of ever dancing again after she lost her leg in 2013 she has been struggling to get back to the dance floor – determined to beat the odds. Which she did.”

In 2015, Adrianne danced the foxtrot on the Boston Marathon finish line, in 2016 she crossed that finish line as a runner, and now she appears in PBSM’s music video for their new single “Dance Floor.” In the video, Adrianne shows off her talent, but doesn’t shy away from the difficult (but necessary) parts of healing. When sharing her story, Adrianne is very open about her struggles with the anger and depression that come along with the grieving process, along with her constant striving for progress. These themes come across clearly and poetically in the video as we see Adrianne’s low points intersperse her beautiful, graceful movements.

This poetically underpins the song’s theme of accepting your skills and limits and how such acceptance really sets you free:

“You find peace on the dance floor

On the dance floor – it’s your home

And your bare feet move, you let yourself go on the dance floor

You look beautiful on your own”

PBSM is Lauritz Carlsen (Vox, guitars) and David Tholander (Bass, Drummachine) and started out as a long distance songwriting relationship between Berlin and Copenhagen for a period of one and a half years. During this time the Berlin crowd around the 8mm bar (incl. bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, Kadavar, The December Sound, Blue Angel Lounge, Cavern of Anti Matter) and a love for psych and, krautrock, formed the band and the songs from the start. A couple of DIY 7″ releases formed the basis for the band’s debut EP released through Copenhagen-based label Møs Møs.

Live, PBSM are a guitar/bass/drum machine power-duo, making a cacophonic wall of sound through their four amp setup. The duo have already toured with rising UK rock act Nothing But Thieves and artrockers Arrows of Love as well as American noir songwriter Nicole Atkins. It’s time to discover PBSM as they continue to forge a path to your heart while leading you straight to the ‘Dance Floor’.

Orlando-based, R&B-infused reggae songstress/guitarist, Leilani Wolfgramm, releases her latest single, “The Trail” ahead of her new EP due out February 23 alongside her national tour with The Green. Already making waves in her genre,she has shared the stage with Ziggy Marley, Incubus, Dirty Heads, Tribal Seeds, Sublime ft. Charlie Millikin


Charlie Millikin announces the release of his latest music video for his 1st studio single “All These Things”, released in May of 2017. Produced and directed by Charlie and local videographer, Sami Jo Prewitt, the video was shot at a small church in New Richmond, Ohio. The single and video are an introspective look at the human condition.

Born into a family of musicians, singers and songwriters, Charlie’s unquenchable passion for great music and melodies seemed only natural. He grew up listening to Earth Wind and Fire, Stevie Wonder, and The Doobie Brothers among other greats, so it’s no surprise that by the age of 6 he was singing and performing with his siblings for family and friends. It wasn’t until high school though that he really got the bug, and flourished. At 18 he picked up the guitar and hasn’t looked back.

In 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017 Charlie was contacted by the producers of the TV show “The Voice” and invited to audition in Chicago, Dallas and Nashville.

Reminiscing with a smile is pretty much the only result to gain from watching indie-pop powerhouse DAHLIA’s newest video, “Back To The Days.”

Well, that, and becoming the 2017 Toronto Independent Music Award winner for “Best Singer-Songwriter”’s newest fan.

A familiar indie industry face since 2006, DAHLIA — Dahlia Fernandes — has long been dubbed one of the most dexterous songwriters on the scene. Having created in collaboration with the likes of Rich Kidd (Drake, Busta Rhymes, K-os), Roy Hamilton III (Michael Jackson, Britney Spears, N’Sync), and America’s Got Talent’s Stacey Kay — as well as placing a song in Degrassi’s Ana Golja’s film, ‘Full Out’ (seen on NBC, Family Channel, and Netflix) — her versatility in sound mixed with unique life experiences weave together a deeply authentic and extraordinary pop offering.

On Shift, DAHLIA leverages all things life that tend to dominate both the heart and mind — from falling in love to having it shatter apart — linking arms with her listeners and taking you on an emotional ride. In just a handful of songs, the self-taught pianist and exquisite lyricist manages to both break your heart and send it soaring all at once.

Breezy “Back to The Days” is one of those instant hits — a giddy, knock-kneed, piano-goosed cut of pure pop buoyed by a dynamic string arrangement and exuberant hand-claps, whereas, for instance, the song “Wash Away” — a song Fernandes says just “wrote itself” — conjures feelings of cathartic heartsickness personified.

Sons of Kemet


Following a sold out show at Village Underground last year, Mercurary-nominated, MOBO Award-winning UK saxophonist Shabaka Hutchings and his group Sons Of Kemet have announced an intimate show in London at Total Refreshment Centre on 19th April to launch their major label debut Your Queen Is A Reptile, to be released on Universal Records on March 30th.

The much-anticipated project addresses the British Monarchy and offers ‘alternative queens’, ranging from Shabaka’s great-grandmother to Baroness Doreen Lawrence. “Our Queens are just like us, and we are human. We need new royalty. Your Queen Is A Reptile.” Featuring the iconoclastic mix of Theon Cross on tuba, Tom Skinner and Eddie Hick on double drums and Hutchings on tenor saxophone, the album celebrates the exploration of identity within the Caribbean diaspora within the UK and brings a unique sound to London’s current underground jazz scene.

Austrian songstress AVEC will be releasing her debut album What If We Never Forget worldwide on the 9th February via Earcandy Records. The album was produced by Lukas Hillebrand and Alexander Pohn (Vera, Elke, Tyler, Julian Le Play), and follows her recent single ‘Waiting For’, ‘Waiting For Remixes’ which included reworkings by electronic producers Alex Schulz, HOUT and Nora Medin as well as latest single, ‘Bones’ . Alex Schulz’s remix received support from major Youtube channels Mr Revillz, The Vibe Guide and Chill Your Mind and HOUT’s remix was premiered by Data Transmission. AVEC has performed at Eurosonic Noorderslag Festival 2018 alongside artists such as Rone, Sigrid, Dillon, Au/Ra and many more.

Writing music is how 22-year old vocalist and musician AVEC keeps the wolf from her door – often reflecting on personal life experiences and weaving her life’s narrative . After the release of her 2015 EP Heartbeats, AVEC has bridged the gap between writing heartfelt lyrics and experimenting with textural sounds. For AVEC, lyrics are the key component to writing music, and language is a place of retreat – which leaves additional room for interpretation. Distancing herself from negative life experiences, AVEC simultaneously shares her own creative story through the powerful portrayal of human life and emotions through her music. AVEC has graced the stages of Reeperbahn Festival 2016 with the likes of Biffy Clyro and Get Well Soon, Vilar de Mouros Festival in Portugal with Primal Scream, Morcheeba and The Dandy Warhols, and opened for Zucchero at Burg Clam in her native Austria.

Although inspired by the likes of Bon Iver, John Mayer, The Lumineers, Oscar and the Wolf, Kings of Leon, Daughter, RYX, AVEC succeeds in creating her own language, where her imagination and ideas come together in her music. AVEC’s sound is comparable to the magical atmosphere just before the sun sets behind the mountains. It is melancholic but hopeful: the sun will rise again tomorrow.

On What If We Never Forget, AVEC has created an album that speaks with honesty and clarity about the mysteries of love and life. The lyrics are of a story-telling nature, communicated in a manner that is moving, calming and melodic. Ingenious arrangements illuminate the songs, washed in AVEC’s alluring vocal work. Opening track ‘Waiting For’, sees AVEC inviting listeners to crawl close to her words, allowing them to slowly come into focus. She crafts a sturdy melody with a pleasantly hazy foreground, while soaking her music in her own surroundings and experiences. ‘Bones’ bears a hushed and haunting soundscape, delivered in a pure, unblemished voice. The result is a perfect, melodic flow declaimed with a striking emotional imprint – beautiful to listen to. ‘Youth’ is a sincere, soulful track, brimming with honesty. The melody is carefully crafted, and the vocal stylings lay bare the singer’s heart truthfully and effectively. With her expressively breathy vocals and stunning sound arrangements, AVEC sets free a piece of her soul to tell its own story. The album concludes with ‘Shadows,’ a pleasingly reflective offering, using guitar and strings elegantly and sparingly to reveal the deep craft at the heart of What If We Never Forget.

The Shadow Lizzards


Described by fans as an explosive mix somewhere between Creedence Clearwater, Hendrix and The Doors, they know their individualistic way of distinguishing themselves from their role models. The trio feels most comfortable when the dirty, creaky retro sounds are released to the live audience.

The same titled album shows a creative yet uncompromising way of writing rock songs. The Shadow Lizzards impress with varying grooves and instrumental finesse. On their debut the trio has bundled this energy and the album is a vivid contrast to the omnipresent plastic music everywhere.

Northern-California-based vocal artist and electronic musician SEAPORA will be sharing her new single “Traveling“, taken from her upcoming album ‘Seaflow’ which is set for release on 9th April via Chillage Records. The album was produced by Peter Farr (Urple Eeple), Ian Anderson (Somatik) and Jeff Harris (Thattix). SEAPORA’s previous album ‘Seapop’ was met with support from YourEDM, having reached #1 on EDM Africa chart, and she has worked alongside Jay Wiltzen & Alex Blue (BLU J), Alex Gonzalez (Spoken Bird) and Will Bauer (Elevated Mind). As one half of the duo ROYALE, alongside Chillage Records label boss Peter Farr, SEAPORA gained support from the likes of Magnetic Magazine, Insomniac, Amazing Radio and Youtube channel Keep It Underground and played at Lucidity Festival and Treefort Music Festival. With production style similar to that of Burial, SEAPORA’s vocals are reminiscent of Beth Gibbons (Portishead), Björk or Lamb.

Annie Jacobsen, better known as SEAPORA, is made of music. She was involved in musical theatre and dance as a child, and created her first original piano composition at the age of 12. “I remember my parents having to kindly ask me to stop singing at the dinner table and all around the house” she laughs. She went on to experiment with vocal performance, modern dance, and studied musical theory in college.

SEAPORA has become synonymous with ethereal soundscapes and soulful vocal leads. Moved by the power of the auditory sense, SEAPORA uses her music to experience and capture mood, and through musical composition she connects with the world. Inspired by the likes Bjork, Robotaki, Tycho, Enya, Deep Forest, and Goldfrapp, her music creates a fusion between the industrial, fast moving city culture and the natural landscapes of the forest and ocean. SEAPORA, originally from California, credits the topography of her homeland for the resonance she feels with the natural realm as well as big city living.

‘Seaflow’ is the second album in a trilogy, succeeding previous release ‘Seapop’ and the first single to be taken from the album, ‘Traveling’ is a brilliant, shining beacon of electronic sophistication. Scattering dreamy vocals between flowing, ambient soundscapes, the track is an aural distillation of emotion, music that offers everything, but demands nothing.

Speaking of “Seaflow,” SEAPORA says: “The lyrical content in ‘Seaflow’ takes the listener on a journey through the self and deals with existential themes surrounding life and death. In ‘Seaflow’ we get a glimpse of what it means to be truly alive and experience our own truth. Minni Jo


Independent vocalist, recording and performing artist Minni Jo has officially released her music video “Starlight Babe.” The piece was written, performed, and recorded by Minni Jo in her own bedroom, bringing a unique and otherworldly vibe to the genre of Bedroom Folk. The track itself features vocals, guitar, and flute from Minni Jo herself. “Starlight Babe” is the first release from Minni Jo’s forthcoming series titled “Made My Bed,” which was all completely written, performed and recorded by herself in her room. “Starlight Babe” features a dance performance, which Minni Jo personally choreographed. Minni Jo also edited the music video for “Starlight Babe.” Minni Jo’s artistry has an intimate and raw vibe, which can be rare and difficult to find in today’s digital music age where perfection is often the norm. Her music is nostalgic of some of the greatest vocalists of our time such as Bob Dylan and Janis Joplin, with influences ranging from jazz to fairytales. “Starlight Babe” is the first in a series of eleven singles that Minni Jo will release with accompanying music videos. Armin van Buuren collaborator and producer Cimo Fränkel has released a remix package for ‘Never Give Up’ on 26 January with remixes by filous, Chevrae, and ChildsPlay x Noise Cartel.

Multitalented instrumentalist and producer filous has remixed tracks by RAC, Jose Gonzalez, and Selena Gomez. He has reached a combined count of 100 million plays via Youtube with support from channels such as Mr Suicide Sheep, Chill Nation, Mr Revillz, Get the Sound, Ultra Music, La Belle Musique and ElectroPosé, as well as having amassed over 65 million plays via Soundcloud alone. He has garnered support from tastemaker publications Noisey, BILLBOARD, TIME, Pop Crush, Dancing Astronaut, Nest HQ, Clash Mag & The 405 and received airplay from the likes of BBC Radio 1’s Pete Tong and Germany’s HITRADIO 03.

ChildsPlay have garnered over 10 million Youtube views and received radio play on BBC Radio’s Diplo and Friends, B.Traits and Panjabi Hit Squad. Their track ‘Bobbel ft. Noise Cartel’s collaboration with StukTV and Cazz Major, ‘Vliegen’ was featured in the top 10 of the Spotify Dutch Viral top 50. They have released official remixes for and together with The Partysquad, ChildsPlay, JeBroer, Girls Love DJs, Adjeand Kempi and have graced the stages of Paaspop, Rebirth Festival, Dream Village, Festyland, Hockeyloverz, City of Dance Festival and Totally Summer tour.

Dutch producer Chevrae has a host collaborations under his belt including ‘Dreamreacher’ on which he collaborated with Bakermat and Dumang, racking up 10 million plays on Spotify and receiving support from Magnetic Mag and Sony/ATV. He has produced favourable remixes of tracks by Chris Brown, Tyga and Ayden, and the first two tracks of his EP Temporary Love were released late 2017.

His recent hit ‘Never Give Up’ was premiered by Clash Magazine, and received support from a host of tastemaker publications including Paste Magazine and Dancing Astronaut. He has worked with notorious labels in the past such as Spinnin Records and Armada gaining Cimo Fränkel over 6 million views on Youtube, paving the way for opportunities to feature on records with internationally acclaimed artists including Armin van Buuren, Daddy’s Groove, Wildstylez, and EDX, as well as supporting Armin van Buuren at multiple sold-out arena shows, including the LA Forum and Amsterdam Arena on his 2016 ‘Armin Only’ Tour. Filous explains his process when remixing Cimo Fränkel, “The most exciting but at the same time, hard part about making this remix for Cimo was his incredible voice. Everything you do as a producer instantly sounds a million times better when his vocals are on it, so it’s easy to feel comfortable really quick – but I tried to give my best nonetheless and had a lot of fun trying to challenge myself to make something that can live up to his insane vocal level!”

Last year’s singles ‘Should I Try’ and ‘If It Goes’showcased Malena Zavala’s inventive new sound. Fusing Latin rhythms with her dulcet vocals, they announced a vital new voice unshackled from the conventions of indie rock. The Argentine born London raised artist, producer and filmmaker is now set to release debut album ‘Aliso’ and new cut ‘Could You Stay’ adds new layers to her exuberant artistry which has already been championed by BEAT, LOBF, Wonderland, Clash, Nylon and much more.

Born into a family of creatives, Malena draws inspiration from the women in her family and small town in the north of Argentina; from the strong Latino character of her Mother honoured in If It Goes, to her maverick Grandmother who in particular encourages a free-thinking approach.

Malena was in a band with her brother for five years before he took an opportunity to move to California, a life dream of his. Whilst in the UK, he was a strong musical influence as an older sibling, and would educate her in his music taste, instrumentation technique, songwriting and recording styles. Losing her mentor, although hard at first, was a vital step for her to step out of the shadows. She holed herself up in his house in Aliso Viejo, California and in a surge of energy and desire to prove herself, wrote most of her first LP in a couple of weeks – within 6 months she had recorded, produced,mixed* (with Gareth Jones*), completed all the art, visuals and videos.

“It’s really satisfying to find a way to express yourself and get things off your chest that have been there for years, I’m really glad I found it and kinda surprised aswell. I’m finally at peace.”

Alisois a kaleidoscopic patchwork of ideas. It concerns itself largely with themes of cultural identity, self-doubt, acceptance, artistic freedom, miscommunication between cultures, and relationships. It’s all set to a backdrop of liquid psych rock and dream pop that draws influence and inspiration from Beach House, Tame Impala, Blake Mills and Devendra Banhart.

This year is looking pivotal for Malena Zavala as she arrives already at the cream of the new crop of unparalleled indie artists.

Running the gamut of all things distorted and infectious, Brooklyn-based rockers Citris released a hidden gem of a rock record last year with Panic in Hampton Bays. The intersection between Angelina Torreano’s (lead vox, guitar) stellar songwriting and vision and Chris Krasnow’s (various) instrumental painting, the quartet rounded out by Eva Lawitts (bass) and Zane West (drums) recently completed a full U.S. tour.

Now, Citris are gearing up to return with “Driving Me Crazy” out in February via New Professor Music.

“‘Driving me Crazy’ is about the attack on your ego and self-esteem after experiencing rejection from a partner,” shares Torreano. “It’s also about having a definitive ending but still feeling unresolved. It’s a very classic theme of the death of romance and how unsettling it can be and how there are so many questions left unanswered.

I had an experience with a dude who hit on me during a show upstate and he wrote me this really sweet ‘Love’ poem after seeing our show. We eventually dated, for a month or so and I kept receiving love poems from him that at first, really freaked me out. I eventually grew to really like him but then of course once I started liking him, he freaked out.

Long story short, things ended because of how emotionally overwhelming everything was becoming. But when you’re constantly writing poetry to your ‘lover’ aren’t you kind of begging for that kind of intensity in reciprocity?

So in an effort to release hurt feelings, I smoked some weed and wrote ‘Driving Me Crazy.’ Marijuana is a really great asset to breakups as well.

I think it’s important to me because the whole experience was really upsetting. Even though it was short, it reminded me of how, even though a lot of the time I feel I have this hard exterior, I am actually quite vulnerable. And ultimately, It’s a relief. So yeah, like I said, I was hurt and stoned and in my living room at 1 or 2 am messing around with some major 7 chords and DMC was born. I remember my roommate imitating the chorus line back to me from his room. I felt like that was a good sign.”




Recently performing for the first time at Paris Bercy Arena for Virgin Radio to 15,000 people, Synapson’s ‘Hide Away’ ft. Holly has a stadium dance anthem quality that is instantly recognisable and engaging with an effortless French funk vibe which feels fresh and poignant for 2018.

The air of mystery in Holly Martin’s sweet vocal in the track intrigues and soars over a backdrop of tight thumping EDM, encompassing Deep House, Nu Disco and more that shows Synapson at the top of their game. The video for the track features an impassioned dancer under the music’s lustful spell, creating chaos in a diner: “Hide away from me or you’ll lose”.

Formed in 2009 Synapson are French multi-instrumentalists Alexandre Chiere (keyboard, saxophone, beat and vocals) and Paul Cucuron (drums, scratch, record production and mixing). The duo are best known for their remake of Burkinabé singer-songwriter and musician Victor Démé song “Djôn’maya” renamed “Djon maya maï”. The single charted in France and Belgium, reaching number 12 on the SNEP French Singles Chart. The duo had a similar success with “All in You” featuring Anna Kova making it to number 10 on the French charts. Both hits are included in Synapson’s latest album Convergence.

French producer and electronic artist Molécule has announced the release of his highly anticipated new concept album ‘-22.7°C’, set to drop on 16th February via Because Music. Previous singles from the album have garnered substantial attention: the ferocious video for one of the LP tracks, ‘Violence’ directed by acclaimed indie videographer Morgan Beringer (Cubenx, Max Cooper, Matthew Dear) premiered via Red Bull Music whilst his most recent single, ‘ARIA’ premiered via Data Transmission. Molécule has also shared a sterling remix package for album cut ‘Sila’ which received support from XLR8R and French tastemaker publications Greenroom and Tsugi. The theme of the album is centred around the abandonment of one’s comfort zones and came into fruition through a 36-day journey on which the producer embarked on to Greenland, naming the album after the lowest temperature recorded during his trip to the confines of the Arctic Circle.

Roman Delahaye, better known as Molécule is head of independent Parisian label Mille Feuilles, and has worked with prominent labels in the past such as Sounds Around, Aktarus, Underdog Records and Play It Again Sam. He has released numerous remixes, singles, EPs and seven full-length LPs. Influenced by nature, isolation and human existence, Molécule’s music could be best comparable to electronic and experimental techno artists such as the swelling atmospheres of Kevin Gorman, the sawtooth pulsing of German producer Helena Hauff and the investigative experiments conducted by Silent Harbour, thrown into a cohesive blender to form Delahaye’s deeply constructed signature tone.

‘-22.7°C’ is an audio sound album and transmedia project with an accompanying book of photographs and letters, a documentary film, and a virtual reality experience, documenting Molécule’s intrepid journey to Greenland, taking with him a home studio featuring keyboards, synthesizers, drum machines, and highly sophisticated microphones with which to capture the sonic atmosphere of his new ecosystem. For thirty-six days he roamed the ice and fjords of an isolated Inuit settlement, searching for sounds and impressions from a radically personal, human adventure. Upon his return, he produced this concept album, ‘-22.7°C’ without a single note being altered once the expedition was over. With ‘-22.7°C’ Molécule delivers the adventurous and immersive soundtrack to a reconnection with nature.

‘-22.7°C’ opens with ‘ARIA’s pulsating thump set amidst deep bass tones. Arpeggio synthesizers and basslines lead the way towards a darkened aura, bleeding through steadily percussive beats and distanced ethereal pad atmospheres. ‘Violence’ is a dizzying voyage through the frosted tundra; deep, acidic synthesizers bleep and blink atop complex percussive patterns. ‘Artefacts’ is a synthesis of electronic sounds expertly woven together in an intricate pattern, and set against a backdrop of rhythmic pulse. Interesting vocal snippets see the LP out, creating a truly authentic auditory experience. Out of Molécule’s voluntary exile emerged a taut and contemplative album. At once concrete and cosmic, Molécule’s techno was transcended by this voyage to the end of the earth, in a quest for self-knowledge.

Molécule explains the inspiration behind the album: “I did not return completely unscathed from my intense trip to Greenland. While in our modern society of mass consumption slaughterhouses are almost hidden, the Inuit culture allows these visions, these images can be shocking but testify of a consumption culture under control with almost no waste.”

‘Closer’ is the latest captivating single produced by four-piece Canadian Pop-Rock band Eleven Past One set for release on 2nd February. Inspired by the sound of the ‘80s, the band utilizes production techniques and tone akin to artists such as The 1975, the single was produced by Rik Annema and Cimo Frankel who have achieved over 100 million plays with their hit single titled ‘Sex’. The band’s debut 2012 single ‘The World Is Ours’ was produced by legendary Juno Award-winning Brian Howes (Nickelback, Simple Plan), which then received a gold award in Canada and gained them 11 weeks on Billboard’s Canadian Hot 100, with singles peaking on the Canadian singles chart and charting in the Top 20 and Top 30 on prestigious stations nationwide.

With a combined play count of over 1 million plays between Soundcloud and YouTube, the official music video was directed by Ben Knechtel who had previously worked with songstress Carly Rae Jepsen on her video for the hit single ‘Call Me Maybe’. Shortly after this the band then signed to Warner Music Canada and released their debut EP, aptly titled The World Is Ours in 2014. The eight-track release features collaborations with notable artists and producers such as Ryan Williams (Pink, Kelly Clarkson), Ryan Stewart (Victoria Duffield), as well as Andy Stochansky and John Rzeznik of Goo Goo Dolls fame who produced their pensive piano ballad titled ‘There’s Nothing Wrong’.

Hailing from different parts of Canada, the band are considered locals of Toronto or Ontario and were mostly born into a life of sound. Eleven Past One have also made various TV appearances including Much Music’s New Music Live, The Marilyn Denis Show and YTV’s The Next Star among many others. The band recently played a sold-out show of 16,000 attendance for Family Channel’s Big Ticket Summer Concert at the 18-year-old Molson Amphitheatre in Toronto, as well as having performed to an estimated 80,000 people for Mississauga’s Canada Day Celebration at Celebration Square which would mark their biggest performance to date.

Eleven Past One have won the hearts of many with their upbeat arrangements, crisp production and soulful, yet intimate lyrical content. Citing pop and rock icons Maroon 5 or The Killers as main influences on their music, their sound could probably be best compared to genre greats such as M83 for their utilization of 80’s inspired production values or vocal techniques akin to that of accomplished artists like The 1975.

The latest single titled ‘Closer’ by Eleven Past One is a brightly-lit, exhilarating ride packed with 80’s inspired production hooks; dense, atmospheric guitars, sharp, reverberated snare drums and steadily entrancing beats triumph beneath pulsating rhythmic basslines and refreshingly firm vocals performed by Daniel Richter.

Speaking on their latest single ‘Closer’, Eleven Past One comment: “Being able to fly out to Los Angeles and team up with the incredibly talented Cimo Frankel and Rik Annema was super exciting. Not to mention the fact that we were able to work in the BMG publishing building. We were in LA on a writing trip, and we wrote another song with them, but when they presented Closer to us, we knew right away that it was something so special, I had to sing on this track”.

Allan Rayman


Today, Juno Award-nominated Canadian alt-R&B rising star, Allan Rayman unveils the music video for his latest track, “Word of Mouth” as part of a double feature to his previous video release Go My Way. The single has seen continuous success since its release in late 2017. Directed by Steph Verschuren, and conceptualized by Allan, the video was shot throughout his last tour that included stops in Colorado, Utah, Vegas and parts of Europe.

The track perfectly captures Allan’s grunge-leaning sound, which is showcased on his latest EP titled Courtney. The accompanying music video brings to life the ever mysterious and challenging artist, with Allan’s own take on grunge exposed as both eerie yet intoxicating.

Allan has been consistently praised for his genre bending style, with Billboard commending his ability to, “fuse R&B swagger with hip-hop grit all while spinning compelling stories much like a country artist”. The arrival of the 5-track EP, Courtney on November 10, 2017 follows up the 2017 R&B-leaning LP Roadhouse 01, which focused on Rayman’s dark alter ego. Lebanese extreme death metal band KAOTEON will release their pummeling new full-length album, Damnatio Memoriae, featuring bass wizard Linus Klausenitzer of Obscura and drum master Fredrik Widigs of Marduk as special guests, on February 23, 2018. Anthony Kaoteon tells Noisey: “On the first album I wanted the riffs to be direct and in-your-face. Even when I was playing melodies, in the background was blood, fire and death, because that’s our background; growing up there would be planes flying overhead, bombs and explosions. Year Of The Locust


Hard Rock band Year of the Locust- YOTL have released the highly anticipated video for their latest single titled “Sunrise” on The band is currently on tour with Starset and Palisades. The tour kicked off on January 28th in Charlotte, NC at The Underground and will conclude on March 16th in Columbus, OH.

On producing the band’s latest single “Sunrise”, Brian Bond says, “Most songs usually take anywhere from a day to a few weeks to write, but on very rare occasions, magic happens and one just appears. That’s exactly what happened with “Sunrise”. After wrapping up a long day of writing and jamming on other songs, Scotty picked up an acoustic and started strumming and singing an idea that he had. Immediately everyone’s ears perked up and before you knew it all the amps were fired back up. Everyone threw out ideas that all somehow managed to work together perfectly and in less than an hour “Sunrise” was done. Magic like that rarely happens, but even rarer is working with a band that knows when something incredible has shown up and regardless of how tired and exhausted they may be, still takes full advantage of the situation.”

Scotty Mac, vocalist of YOTL, adds, “The lyrics and melodies hit me like a ton of bricks… When a song is written and you are locked into a melody from the very start.. That’s like a Polaroid picture. Moment captured; lighting strikes… And the smell of the burnt soil is undeniable. It sticks with you.”

The video was produced and directed by Steve Sage Productions. Steve Sage said, “Working with Y.O.T.L. was an amazing experience. The guys are professionals on and off the stage. They brought my team and I a treatment and we created something beyond their expectations. This video and the next are going to kick major ass.”

Year of the Locust is a motley collection of personalities from the American Northeast. Hailing from NYC, Washington Dc, and West “By God” Virginia, the band’s sound has come into its own under the watchful eye of producer/guitarist Brain Bonds.

“I remember going to see them at The Masquerade in Atlanta. In the moments before YOTL hit the stage I (and everyone else) heard some sort of guttural gang chant erupt from the backstage area. It really grabbed everyone’s attention. The tenacity they brought to their show and the way they commanded the stage was reminiscent of the arena bands I enjoyed as a kid. That type of power is a unique thing, and I knew I wanted to know more about them.” says Brian Bonds.

What he had heard was the band’s pre-show huddle. A ritual Year of the Locust uses to clear their minds of the day, put aside the rest of the world, and prepare for the show.

In early 2017, after his departure from Florida Georgia Line, Brian toured with Tantric alongside Y.O.T.L. The band would forge a friendship with Brian that would ultimately lead to him producing ‘Rock. Sex. God. Machine.’ later that year, and yielding the single, “Sunrise.”

In December of 2017 Brian would spend a week in the Catskill Mountains of NY with the band. It was the first time YOTL had been together to create as an entire group. Brian brought them together not only as a family but into something that reflected their collective, eclectic tastes.

They held “church” every morning. With Brian leading an open forum to catch the “vibes” of the group and bring that energy to the 12- 16 hours of brutal, rock and roll boot camp that would follow. They shared things about their goals, dreams, secrets; truly solidifying them as family. And ultimately Brian would open his doors to the band in Nashville where he would produce the new E.P.

Of course no studio session is without its share of antics and this one was no different. Between the cases of beer, pounds of coffee, bottles of liquor, a T-Rex and a Jigsaw doll things got weird. Things also got magical. Y.O.T.L. set out to create something that was uniquely authentic, and represented their very broad spectrum of musical backgrounds. A six headed musical monster was born.

Having shared the stage with some musical behemoth’s in recent years, such as Saliva, Tantric, Saving Abel, and Puddle of Mudd, the band feels as though its search for identity has been (temporarily) quenched. Eager to reveal the new beast to the world, the band will have their chance as they kickoff 2018 with a 36 city tour alongside Starset. Add to that a new single/music video release for “Sunrise” and “The Swarm” is set for domination in 2018.
