Phoenix Rockers Ded have released an apocalyptic vision of the world with the new video for “FMFY”. The band will be kicking off their 2017 touring schedule with a KUPD sponsored show on February 9th @ Pub Rock in Scottsdale, AZ.
The driving rocker is visually intense, with scenes of riots, violence and war interspersed with a powerful live performance against a stark backdrop of a run-down house.
Vocalist Joe Cotela says,” “FMFY” is a song that’s loosely inspired by Matthew McConaughey’s character Rust from the show True Detective. Although pretty extreme at times, a lot of his thoughts and ethos resonated with me and made me think about the human race and our programming. We’re programmed to be selfish and hopeful; and yet how hypocritical we are in the process of judging others and standing on our soapbox’s screaming our ‘important’ point of view.”
Cotela goes on to say “I wanted to include myself in this by saying ‘Fuck me’ as well because I wanted to take a stance of true honesty without the self-righteousness of separating myself from whom I’m condemning. I am a part of all of these flaws and I contribute to the problem in my way. The important thing here is that I am attempting to be conscious of who and what I am while a lot of other people have no problem being complacent… They are on auto-pilot inside their little self-made narratives of ‘Who I am.’ We want to wake people up a bit with ‘FMFY. We hope these intense images in the video get that point across and make people think”.
DED was born in the music scene of Phoenix, Arizona and has been together for 2 years. Band members Joe Cotela (Vocals), David Ludlow (Guitar), Kyle Koelsch (Bass), and Matt Reinhard (Drums) developed a friendship and ultimately a musical partnership that mixes horror and dark imagery to develop a familiar, yet unique sound that sets them apart from other bands.
The band’s work ethic, drive, and dedication led them to record an EP that quickly made the rounds of the music industry, and started a buzz that opened doors. Using that as a springboard, the band hit the road and toured with Beartooth, Asking Alexandria, Atreyu, Every Time I Die, Upon a Burning Body, The Acacia Strain, John 5, Powerman 5000, and Insane Clown Posse among others.
Their touring helped grow awareness in the business and brought them to the attention of producer John Feldmann (Disturbed, Blink-182, Beartooth). Their collaboration with Feldmann culminated in the band signing with Jordan Schur @ Suretone Records – who discovered and grew the careers of platinum rock acts Staind and Limp Bizkit, among others. Suretone will be releasing their debut album in May of 2017.
Upcoming Tour Dates (more to be announced in March):
May 6th – Carolina Rebellion – Charlotte, NC
May 19th – 21st – Rock On The Range – Columbus, Ohio
May 26th – 28th – Rocklahoma – Pryor, OK
July 16th – Chicago Open Air Festival – Bridgeview, IL
The story of NYC-based indie-rock band Little Person can be broken down succinctly around the number two. The project of twin brothers and multi-instrumentalists Max and Nicky Weinbach, Little Person continues to draw inspiration from legendary songwriting talents like Burt Bacharach (alliteration!) following a recent change of coasts from the Bay Area to the Big Apple.
Both Weinbach brothers started their careers in musical theater, still putting on a throwback-style variety show from time to time, but it was their mutual love of classic 1960’s pop records that led them down their current path. Forming in 2013, Little Person released an acclaimed, self-titled EP and contemplated their next move leading to, well, a move! Now firmly planted in New York, the band is readying to release the I Feel Fine EP via self-release.
Across the EP’s six tracks, Max and Nicky dive deeper into their aesthetic and the delightful quirks therein, while blending postmodern takes into their timeless sound. With new members Mike Sanders (bass) and Yannick Sabarots (drums) in the fold, Little Person will celebrate the release of I Feel Fine with a performance at Pete’s Candy Shop on March 30th.
THE TOSSERS are proud to deliver the video for “Smash The Windows,” the bar-brawling title song from their upcoming album available March 3rd. Led by the gritty voice of Tony Duggins, the song authentically captures THE TOSSERS’ blue-collar bluster and storytelling.
THE TOSSERS recently released the singles “Erin Go Bragh” and “The Horses” from the record. Not only does the album pay tribute to their Irish heritage, it recites stories of immigration struggles, which in many ways mimics the tumultuous tone of America today.
Through their 24 year existence, this six-piece have never forgotten their goal – to have a good time and make sure their audiences do too! Beginning next week in Ferndale, MI, THE TOSSERS will travel the US in support of Smash The Windows, with an East Coast excursion before their annual headlining show at Chicago’s Metro on March 17th. Stay tuned for more dates to be announced soon.

ISLANDER and Loudwire are excited to unveil the emotive new music video for “Better Day,” the fourth clip from the breakout band’s magnetic concept album Power Under Control. Speaking of the song’s meaning, frontman Mikey Carvajal asserts: “It’s simple, really. The world is hurting, so we wrote an anthem for those that are hurting. ‘Better Day’ is a song of hope.”
ISLANDER are currently performing to sold-out crowds on the ‘Lifelines Tour’, which features I Prevail, Wage War, and Assuming We Survive. The tour circles North America before concluding March 8 in Seattle. ISLANDER will then continue touring throughout the summer, with a major announcement to be revealed soon.
Some voices sweep away everything in their path, sending shivers up the spine, chilling the blood and inflaming the senses. Josh Wheatley may only be 21, but his angelic pop indie folk voice is one such phenomenon. Having already caught the attention of Janice Long at Radio 2 and a host of producers lining up to work with Josh, this dark and brooding songwriter from Nottingham is writing about matters of the heart and soul with a knowing empathy rarely found in someone so young.
His influences are cited as being locked firmly around artists like Death Cab For Cutie, Ryan Adams and David Gray, along with some newer bands such as Tall Ships and Dog is Dead. After a spat at university heading towards the path of a career in law Wheatley decided to head towards the stars instead and follow his heart where the music runs deep within. This first offering entitled ‘Runaway’ is a song which encapsulates a person’s deepest fears, and follows the battle they go through to escape. Be it love, depression, anger and whatever else can keep someone trapped inside.
The track successfully completes the feat of marrying poignant young impressionable innocence to an established production of popping slow burning nostalgic electronic sounds that have an infectiousness sense in their sincerity. Retro in one moment yet contemporary in another, spine chilling and beautiful, the song is like a quiet whisper in your ear or a thought in the back of your head that grows and grows until it embraces and envelopes you with a long sought after freedom. Love and anger arise throughout the song, picturing loss and hopes for solace whilst choral distant harmonies shimmer and drum machine beats snap.
Production comes from Ed Turner (Adam French, Dan Hyde) delivering an uplifting and anthemic indie pop sound that will lay down the gauntlet of someone here about to truly break through.
‘Runaway’ is out to buy on March 6th.
The genesis of Seafoam Green followed a chance meeting with Rich Robinson during recording sessions in Nashville. O’Grady was invited by Robinson to open his US and European tour dates and soon the pair began writing and recording in earnest, leading to their collaboration on the stunning debut album.
Debut album ‘Topanga Mansion’ was recorded at 4th Street Recording in Santa Monica, California and is a fine collection of melodic folk and rock jam Americana with an all round warm sound that invites the listener into its intricacies. Encompassing O’Grady’s varied influences from Creedence Clearwater Revival to Aslan and Christy Moore, the sounds of Nashville, Irish storytelling and more recently the sounds of Liverpool where O’Grady currently resides, it’s a mansion in itself of extravagant beautiful musical décor.
“The first time I heard John Fogerty sing I was like “what is that!!?? and how do I do it?” says O’Grady and in tracks like ‘Down The River’ we can hear footprints of CCR as the track explodes with a whiskey-soaked, gospel-harmony, truck-driving classic rock power that’s just plain awesome. More melodic moments like ‘Celtic Wonderings’ shows another side with its contemplative accomplished folk finger-picking stylings and beautiful backdrop of pedal steel and strings and O’Gradys’ hushed well-worn voice rising above in a haze of wondering. “The thing I love about Irish folk music is the story telling, the poetic phrasing that passes through verses live waves over sand or stones, no two verses are the same as they are telling a different part of the story and project a different image.” Adds O’Grady.
2017 is shaping up to be a year of playing, travelling and meeting people for Seafoam Green and with Topanga Mansion coming out on double vinyl on Liverpool’s Mellowtone Records, O’Grady is coming out of the shadows with a quality of songwriting and music that will no doubt place him at the top of the UK’s Americana, folk and indie scenes.
A Lie Nation
Finnish melodic extreme metal quintet A Lie Nation will release their second EP, called “Begin Hate”, April 5th 2017 via Inverse Records. “Begin Hate” is rough, yet melodic, extreme metal with an original touch that fuses elements from black and death metal with rock-like straightforwardness. The four song EP is a study of negative mindscapes of the human species and it spans from extreme aggression to apocalyptic and self-destructive atmospheres. Heavy hitting rhythms and razor sharp vocals are balanced out with intriguing melodies and smoothly grinding bass lines. “Begin Hate” does not bow to anyone or anything, but is sure to leave a mark with its energetic destructiveness.
Nighon was formed in 2008, in Pietarsaari, Finland. The band portrays unglorified stories from war and other crimes. The band’s music is greatly inspired by cinematic music and extreme forms of metal. The result is a unique and aggressive sound, blending darkness with light. Nighon released its first record ‘Cor Oblivionis’ in 2014 on Univocal Records and their first music video ‘Ex Tenebris Lux’ the same year.
The band has gigged with bands like MyGrain, Magenta Harvest, Finntroll, Kill The Kong and Arkentype. Nighon are also hosting their own podcast called “Nighon Propaganda-cast”. The idea is to provide uncensored content and a free flow of information.
Nighon’s second album ‘The Somme’ was recorded in the spring and summer of 2016. The drums were recorded at Soundspiral Audio, with Juho Räihä. The rest was recorded at Nighon’s home studio. Mathias Lillmåns (Finntroll, Magenta Harvest, Chthonian, etc.) has co-produced the album with Nighon. He is also featured on the song “I Fear For Tomorrow”. The album was mixed and mastered by Fredrik Nordström and Henrik Udd at Studio Fredman, Gothenburg Sweden.
The album is a concept album with stories from World War I, World War II and the similarities between those and the crises we see today in our world. The sound is much more extreme than previous Nighon compositions, widening the contrasts even more than before. The album is supposed to be heard in it’s entirety non-stop. The single “The Greatest of Catastrophes” is a blend of the outbreak of World War I and the Ukraine crisis. The video was filmed during the winter 2016 by Kasper Dalkarl, David Viklund and Stephanie Blomqvist.
The Somme is released May 5th 2017 by Inverse Records.
Crucify The Faith
Crucify The Faith is a Finnish Helsinki -based group playing melodic deathcore. CTF combines various different genres providing for listeners rhythms, melodies, breakdowns and scream choirs. Band’s first release was the 2015 single/music video “The World is Mine”. On that same year CtF was selected as the second position on Finnish largest band competition Emergenza Festival while the band members were still only 16-18 year old. Band also got special thanks from really skillful guitar work and songs with interesting variability.
“New Breed” EP is the band’s first EP and it combines the CtF’s diverse style as interesting whole. EP is recorded and produced 100% by the band themselves. Band members have great variaty of different kind of influences from different musical styles from hip hop to deathcore and that give the unique twist to Crucify The Faith’s sound. “New Breed” features also singer Roosa Ahonen on track “Make it Through”. After the release Crucify The Faith is heading to play shows around Finland.
Xemu at SXSW
Xemu Records will be hosting a Tiki-themed day party on March 18th at Valhalla as part of SXSW. Headlining will be psych-rock fan favorite and Xemu artist Dead Meadow. Labelmates DTCV (pronounced Detective – featuring Lola G and James Greer, formerly of Guided By Voices) and La Cerca will also be in the lineup. Rounding out the bill will be Matt Hollywood (formerly of Brian Jonestown Massacre), The Detail (featuring Nate Ryan, ex-Black Angels) and Many Colored Death. A variety of exotica and garage DJ’s will be playing in between sets.
This will be the first SXSW showcase for the New York/Los Angeles-based indie-rock label owned by filmmaker Cevin Soling and run by Dead Meadow bassist Steve Kille and Alex Moreno, formerly of the Beggars Group & Matador Records.
The event is free and will be from noon until 6pm. Sponsor Sailor Jerry will be providing free rum drinks.
Valhalla is located on 710 Red River in Austin, TX.
Ensh has released the new music video for his latest single “Gender Bending”. The now Toronto (originally Belgrade, Serbia) based Electro-indie artist has been breaking musical barriers and is for fans of Björk, Death Grips, The Knife & Radiohead. This eccentric and interpretive video/song is his take on toxic masculinity & patriarchy.
Highly regarded London rock-trio BELLA FIGURA have built a strong London following with a sound that has cut deeply into the London scene with cerebral poetic lyricism but also has blown away audiences with its sheer raw power. Recently packing out major London venues and performing at Larmer Tree, 2000 Trees, The Great Escape, Reeperbahn, the Dr. Martens: Stand For Something Tour and the Music Week RADAR Showcase, as well as being selected to perform (solo) for the highly respected Coffee House Tour, the band are on an emotionally charged roller-coaster which looks set to continue to bring them critical acclaim and legions of new followers.
New single ‘Didn’t Love You’ taken from the band’s latest EP ‘Forever Lost’ continues to push the American west coast sounds of the 60’s and 70’s forward in a psychedelic blues driven swirl of intoxicating regret and anguish that nourishes as much as it does engage. Powerfully cathartic yet immediately impacting, the track deals with the labyrinth of emotions and the guarding of the self involved in becoming close to someone which is plainly laid bare in the main track hook lyric: “When I said I didn’t love you, I lied”.
The band’s frontman Justin Gartry, who is in one moment a musical monster and in the next has the sentiment of a gentle giant, is set to become the centre of his own musical scene with the launch of this single coinciding with a week of gigs being setup for some very exciting new artists and alter egos and new musical incarnations of Gartry’s as part of the Give-A-Gig week in aid of the Youth Music Charity and coalescing together Gartry’s own new independent record label Tourino Records.
Having recently been diagnosed with bipolar disorder which is perhaps why there’s a full range of both light and darkness in Bella Figura’s sound, Gartry’s also found a release for his soft singer-songwriter side under “J. Nicholas” as well as his darker blues performer, “Bake Lee”. Over the week of gigs, Justin will also play drums in the improvised experimental duo (two brothers) “Giamatone” as well as lead guitar for folky guitar duo “Smart & Gartry”.
In Bella Figura, along-side two close friends Oli Morgan who Gartry met studying music production on bass and Jack Morford who he met whilst studying Astrophysics on drums and with his label collective and this week of youth music charity shows, Gartry is in his element poised on the edge of more explorations.
Until recently, Brisbane based HARRY FOX has been an enigma, hidden in the liner notes of local dance and hip-hop production. Determined to step into a spotlight of his own, FOX releases his Purple Sneakers-premiered debut single, ‘All For It feat. Donny Casper’, this Friday.
Off the back of his remix of Midas.Gold’s ‘$$$’, an epic mix filled with trap influences and punchy bass anthems, ‘All For It feat. Donny Casper’ is a certified floor filler. Similar to the likes of Baauer and RL Grime, the track’s dirty trap beats swing between filthy and fire.
Having most recently produced Forbes’ debut album Audio Novella, HARRY FOX is no newcomer to the production game and has zero interest in slowing his rapid-fire pace. Now rumoured to be working with alt-rock giants Birds Of Tokyo, there’s much to look forward to in 2017 for this promising young artist.
After making waves with ‘The Game’ across the blogosphere, Melbourne’s Vincent Sole announces the impending release of his anthemic new single ‘Deep End’ plus two much anticipated debut headline shows.
Created in collaboration with Malcolm Besley (Northeast Party House, City Calm Down) ‘Deep End’ rises and falls gently, like a calm swell in the metaphorical water it references. Through it all, there’s a pervading sense of strength and ambition through uncertainty at the crossroads of youth and adulthood. “[The song] tells a story about freestyling the rest of my teen years and taking a leap of faith, to lead my life into something much bigger.” says Vincent Sole.
The 19-year-old wunderkind penned a management deal with 5/4 Entertainment (City Calm Down, Tkay Maidza) last year, preparing him for what is already shaping up to be a year of relentless goal-kicking. Previous single ‘The Game’ drew praise from outlets such as Stoney Roads, Purple Sneakers and Howl & Echoes, with Pilerats naming Sole as one of 17 acts to watch in 2017. Having spent months preparing, Vincent Sole is set to debut his live shows in Melbourne and Sydney this April.
Fresh faced Melbourne hip-pop/RnB talent Belle Noble makes a stirring debut with ‘Instinct’, a call-to-arms anthem pushing empowerment and self-awareness. Its video, full of electrifying spontaneous choreography, was created with help from visual luminaries C-KOL (Sportsgirl, Country Road).
For Belle, watching countless friends sacrifice their integrity and happiness for the ill-advised pursuit of success, ‘Instinct’ came naturally. “I remember sitting back and thinking, I never want to make this mistake. So I took something that came from a bitter place and turned it into a message of empowerment and individualism.” she asserts. Alongside Studios 301’s Jack Prest (Flume, Sampa The Great, The Preatures), Noble wove her convictions deftly into her debut single.
Driven by commanding piano and flying resplendent on the wings of Noble’s unique and arresting vocals, the song’s message is elevated by its accompanying visuals. Each dancer in the clip had never heard the track or been given any choreography prior to filming: the process was entirely organic, raw, and individual – just the credo that ‘Instinct’ aims to instill.
Says Noble, “I want this project, as ambitious as it sounds, to remind us that we each have the power to do and feel what is right. Follow our moral compasses, be open but critical to what the media tells us, and give ourselves permission to listen and act according to our own instincts.”
PSYENCE announce their anticipated return with a swirlingly hypnotic new EP release ‘A New Dawn’ and UK tour this coming March. Blurring the lines of 60’s Americana garage rock and flirting with the modern-day psychedelia of Pond and Temples, Psyence is an intense chemical reaction of face-melting riffs, dynamic vocals and groove-based rhythms that have been locked away up north to mature away before they break out this year.
The 5-piece from Stoke-On-Trent are now set to release their new EP ‘A New Dawn’ on March 1st 2017 through their own imprint Beyond The Sun Records, recorded with Sam Bloor and mastered by Pete Maher (The Rolling Stones, Jack White, Noel Gallagher). The four tracks found here are more assured, more confident, and more tightly wound than their previous output, and it’s another dynamic piece to the armoury that bears the unmistakable sound of Psyence.
