DORO PESCH has always been a fighter. A fighter who passionately stands for what she is: pioneer and driving force of Heavy Metal. A fighter who never surrenders when it gets tough, who never hesitates to take the long and stony ways. When DOROTHEE “DORO” PESCH is born in Duesseldorf, Germany on June 3rd, destiny already holds a whole lot for her. Her dad, being a lorry driver, takes little DORO on his tours, and thus wakes her passion for travelling. To be on the move, to experience new things is a part of DORO’s life ever since she’s a little girl.

That is until one day with only 16 years she suddenly falls ill. DORO is a typesetter apprentice when the clouds on her sky get darker and darker. No one has an explanation why she’s getting weaker and weaker week after week. Just until doctors in hospital diagnose her pulmonary tuberculosis. She has to stay in bed for almost a year, experiences highs and lows. She never loses faith though and she promises herself that if she ever gets better, she will dedicate her life to music, her greatest passion.

And DORO does get better – and she keeps her promise. Soon after her recovery she founds her band Warlock, manages to get a record deal and she’s able to return to the life she enjoyed living as a child: life on the road, seeing the world. She plays gigs and tours with legends like Judas Priest, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Metallica, Scorpions, Megadeth and W.A.S.P., she’s the first woman to play on the Monsters Of Rock Festival and becomes a pioneer of a whole genre. 1988 is the year of her first of several Gold Records of her career. In 1993, an “ECHO”-Award (German music award) as best national artist follows. DORO is also awarded best singer by a major rock magazine in Spain 13 times in a row.

Even in her second home town, in New York City she doesn’t remain unknown. She is voted best artist in several American magazines regularly. Thus, being the first female band leader in that genre, DORO becomes an icon and pioneered for many women coming after her.Warlock have long become a legend. Their name will be forever in our minds, due to songs like “Für Immer,” “True As Steel,” “All We Are” or “I Rule The Ruins.”

DORO’s 17th studio album Raise Your Fist is out now. Raise Your Fist album was recorded and written in the U.S., Germany, and Scandinavia. Musical guests on Raise Your Fist include Motörhead’s Lemmy Kilmister and Ozzy/Firewind guitarist Gus G. Album artwork has once again been created by British artist and longtime collaborator Geoffrey Gillespie.

Andrew Bird and Fiona Apple

The inimitable Fiona Apple joins Andrew Bird on “Left Handed Kisses”, the second track released off Are You Serious, out April 1st via Loma Vista. Not known for writing love songs, Andrew took an approach here in a way that only he can.

“My inclination was to write a song about why I can’t write a simple love song. The song began as an internal dialogue,” Bird says. “At first it was just my voice. Then another voice came creeping in and I thought ‘this should be a duet if I can find the right person.’ I needed to find someone really indicting. She was totally committed. The session was a long whiskey-fueled night – unhinged, for sure. All worth it, of course. I can’t write simple love songs. People are complex.”

Listen to the song below and see him live on his upcoming world tour (full dates below). Stay tuned for the video directed by Phil Andelman.

Blaqk Audio

DAVEY HAVOK and JADE PUGET have announced an April 15th release for MATERIAL (Blaqknoise/Kobalt), the new album from the duo’s electronic alter ego, BLAQK AUDIO. They’re giving fans a preview of the record with lead track “Anointed,” which can be streamed below.

Fans can get “Anointed” as an instant download by clicking HERE to pre-order MATERIAL on iTunes. Produced and recorded by Puget, MATERIAL is Blaqk Audio’s third release following 2012’s Bright Black Heaven and 2007’s Cexcells.
“I’m so very excited to offer Material to the world,” says Havok. “My anticipation for each BA release heightens as we grow. For me, lyrically, Material is darker than our records of the past.”

Though best known for their work with multi-platinum rock band AFI, Havok and Puget’s shared love of electronic music runs deep. Havok, who counts Devo’s Freedom of Choice and Duran Duran’s self-titled debut among the first albums he owned, saw his tastes evolve over the years from the synth pop of Erasure and Pet Shop Boys to Depeche Mode and ultimately to the heavier, darker Skinny Puppy, Ministry, Front 242 and Lords of Acid. Later, Havok immersed himself in the “futurepop” genre, which combined dark dance-y electronica with melodic vocals. From roughly 1999 to 2003, his contemporary musical diet consisted almost exclusively of artists falling under the industrial/ebm/futurepop/bigbeat/trance umbrella.

“Considering this is Blaqk Audio’s third record over the course of its 15-year existence, it’s always an exciting and rare opportunity to release a new batch of songs,” says Puget. “Each new release finds us in a very different place, creatively, than the last,” adds Puget. “Influences are different, musical interests have slightly or vastly shifted. As a writer, I’ve moved fully onto [software music sequencer] Ableton Live since the last album, which changes my workflow and writing style.”

Alina Bea

Alina Bea is extremely pleased to announce the release of her debut EP Live Undone today on New Professor Records. In celebration, Alina has debuted a third single from the EP called “The Wanting” which premiered earlier this morning courtesy of Le Sigh. Listen to the track and read more about Live Undone here. Alina Bea is also celebrating with a release show tonight at Resident in her native Los Angeles. The band is currently putting together their first shows outside of LA so stay tuned for additional announcements shortly!

In the wake of a cataclysmic life change resulting from the end of a five-year relationship and the dissolution of her beloved band Body Parts, Live Undone is an exclamation of shocked loss and an empowered scream of defiance drawing on dark and confessional subject matter, with an adventurous electronic pop palette that calls to mind Kate Bush, St. Vincent and Empress Of.

Born into a family of artists in Venice, CA, Alina took to performance early on, particularly music and movement. She picked up the guitar at age 6, received a formal modern dance education, and later joined an all-female circus sideshow troupe (breathing fire, walking on broken glass, escaping straight-jackets) while playing in countless bands. Most notably, this included a four-year stint co-fronting cerebral L.A. pop outfit Body Parts (Father/Daughter Records) as singer and guitarist. The band was widely lauded, with Buzzbands LA naming Body Parts’ debut album Fire Dream the best album released by a Los Angeles artist in 2013.

But just as Body Parts began to transition from local favorite to national breakout band, the unthinkable became the inevitable, and the group broke up – just as Alina’s longterm relationship with her boyfriend also unraveled.

Years later, following stints playing with a variety of indie and major label bands, Alina finally has a solo debut, the EP Live Undone. The record draws on the vocal acrobatics of Kate Bush, the raw confessions of Joni Mitchell, and the sonic wanderings of Bjork and St. Vincent. As aurally expansive and daring as the lyrics are incisive and personal, Alina’s songs, vocals, and guitar are bolstered by producer Mike Richardson’s clattering electronic percussion and dense walls of synthesizers. Alina’s confessional lyrics and confrontational vocal delivery are a series of emotional signposts along a surprising and fascinating sonic landscape.

Chris Watts

Love can be a tricky game at the best of times. But if you’re the one with the crush, and the object of your affection is sending mixed signals? Well. That can usher a very special kind of wide-eyed insecurity. Luckily for us, indie-folk-pop maestro Chris Watts has woven those wobbly-footed feelings into a bright, snappy tapestry: his new single ‘Let Go’. No text back? Just bop your head around. She complimented you, then ignored you the next day? Clap your hands along to the beat. Really unsure where it’s going, but not able to let go? Chuck on some Chris Watts. He gets it.

Watts’ debut ‘Back Down’ – the titular single off his first album – premiered on triple j. He’s since shared the stage with the likes of Georgia Fair, has wowed crowds at Etihad Stadium and St Kilda Festival, and was part of MTV’s Brand New alongside Tkay Maidza, Cosmo’s Midnight and Carmada.

With an upcoming single launch for ‘Let Go’ at Melbourne’s Shebeen on 26 March, a video to accompany the track on the way & much more on the horizon, 2016 looks to be Chris Watts’ year.

Tiger Army

Los Angeles-based rock ‘n roll band TIGER ARMY have released “Prisoner of the Night,” the first track off their much-anticipated new album, V •••– (LunaTone/Rise), release date TBA. Click HERE to listen and HERE to purchase “Prisoner of the Night” on iTunes. Produced and mixed by Grammy winner Ted Hutt (Old Crow Medicine Show, The Gaslight Anthem, Dropkick Murphys) and featuring Tiger Army vocalist/guitarist Nick 13, acclaimed bassist Dave Roe (Johnny Cash, Ray Lamontagne, Dan Auerbach) and drummer Mitch Marine (Dwight Yoakam), V •••– is Tiger Army’s first album since 2007’s Music from Regions Beyond.

Tiger Army have been playing “Prisoner of the Night” during their recent live shows, including their current tour with Dropkick Murphys (see itinerary below).About the track and how it fits into the band’s set, Nick 13 says, “Our sound has always been about a mix of old and new. But this song, like others on the new record, draws from the early ‘60s. It was a transitional period after the end of rock ‘n’ roll’s first wave, but prior to the British invasion. There was a lot of sonic experimentation as people tried to figure out ‘what’s next’? Radio singles of that era also went on to influence early NYC punk, so ‘Prisoner’ plays with that as well.”

Since their arrival in ’96, TIGER ARMY have drawn critical praise from the New York Times, performed on Jimmy Kimmel Live!, had a No. 1 Most Requested Song on influential LA radio station KROQ with the single “Forever Fades Away,” shared stages with artists such as Morrissey and Social Distortion and built a diehard international fanbase by blending punk grit and mid-century twang to thrilling effect. Last October, they held their long-running two-day Octoberflame festival at the Observatory in Santa Ana, CA. The dates, which sold out immediately, were the band’s first in two years and the shows’ electricity prompted the Orange County Register to write, “Maybe the most remarkable thing about Tiger Army’s set was how the band and audience seemed as in-step with each other as ever. If Nick 13 wondered whether Tiger Army would still have a strong fan base after so much time away from the stage, the Octoberflame concerts served the role of reassurance.”

Don’t miss your chance to catch TIGER ARMY live.

The Heavy

The Heavy have today premiered ‘Turn Up’, a storming new track taken from their forthcoming album ‘Hurt & The Merciless’, out 1st April on Counter Records. As a taster for the new album ‘Turn Up’ – watch the lyric video here – is perfect, with live horn and string sections adding flesh to its righteous rock’n’blues bones. The Bath quartet performed the track yesterday on French TV show Le Petit Journal, watch here and ‘Turn Up’ is available to stream now on Spotify and as an instant download with iTunes album pre-orders.

‘Hurt & The Merciless’ marks a musical culmination for The Heavy, a mesmeric blend of their trademark rock’n’roll classicism and funk and soul grooves with added sonic experimentation. Everything the band – Kelvin Swaby (vocals), Dan Taylor (guitar), Spencer Page (bass), and Chris Ellul (drums) – have achieved over the past decade feels like it has been leading to this point. They’ve mixed the lightning bolts of their live show with a batch of their strongest songs yet. ‘Hurt & The Merciless’ is the sound of a thrilling rock’n’roll band fighting back.

The Heavy’s distinctive, genre-blending sound, described by Q as fusing “Prince, The Rolling Stones and 60’s Garage” (Q), has brought the band considerable international success. Their songs – notably ‘How You Like Me Now?’, ‘Big Bad Wolf’ and ‘What Makes A Good Man’ – have appeared in many of the coolest films and TV series of the past few years, and are currently soundtracking trailers to two of 2016’s most important releases, ‘The Hateful Eight’ and ‘The Big Short’.

The first single from the album is ‘Since You Been Gone’, impacting April 1st. Following their sold-out warm-up gig at London’s Moth Club last week, the acclaimed Bath quartet will embark on a major US, UK & European headline tours next month, plus shows at SXSW and Coachella Festivals. Their next London show is at Heaven on May 17.

Matthew Logan Vasquez

If you happen to like indie rock performed by real bands, and you catch yourself listening to a mixture of The Vaccines, Kasabian, Dead Weather and Arctic Monkeys more often than not, you should keep an ear out for Matthew Logan Vasquez, the front man of Delta Spirit and one-third of the super-group Middle Brother’s upcoming new single Everything I Do Is Out.

Inspired by the sonic nonconformity of The Black Keys and The Raconteurs Everything I Do Is Out showcases the lo-fi rock raver-cum-primal stomp-like energy from start to finish. Compromise- what’s that? Take it easy- what for? No no no, this track is certainly not about keeping anything in, but letting yourself go to the sound of the still much alive rock’n’roll.

The speaker-blowing vocal abilities of Vasquez, hinting slightly at the style of Dan Auerbach and Cold War Kids, are complimented well against his guitar-driven idiosyncratic flourishes… And when he sings, he manages to channel highly addictive levels of drive and determination at the same time.

Everything I Do Is Out is a brilliant introduction to the upcoming new album, and it will be out for sale and download NOW via DevilDuck Records.

Throw The Fight

Throw the Fight are back. The band will release its new album ‘Transmissions’ via Bullet Tooth on April 8. The band worked with producers Carson Slovak and Grant McFarland, whose credits include August Burns Red, Texas In July, Everclear, Affiance, Live, and more. The band has shared the first taste of music from ‘Transmissions’, premiering the lyric video for “Drown With Me” via Revolver Listen to the new song here The song is also available via iTunes and Spotify.

Of the track, vocalist James Clark said, “The song is about realizing you are trapped in a relationship that isn’t going anywhere and you’re just going through the motions. It’s about you both knowing it’s over and that it’s not going to end well, but it’s easier to stay trapped and unhappy than move on into the unknown.”

‘Transmissions’ is the follow-up to ‘What Doesn’t Kill Us’, which was produced by John Feldmann (Atreyu, The Used). That album has impressively sold 10,000 copies worldwide since release and landed on Billboard’s Heatseekers chart. Throw the Fight followed the album with the 2013-released The Vault EP, which also landed on Billboard’s Heatseekers and Alternative New Artist charts. “We wanted to return when we had that fire going again. We demoed over 25 songs for this record in four months,” said guitarist Ryan Baustert. “It ended up being the largest body of material we’ve ever had to work with for an album. This is by far the heaviest, most exciting group of Throw The Fight songs we’ve done. This is it. This is the best of the best.”

Since arriving on the scene, Throw the Fight, who are based in Minneapolis, have toured nationally, logging dates with Bullet For My Valentine, Black Veil Brides, Avenged Sevenfold, Papa Roach, Sevendust, and more. They also secured slots on festivals such as The Vans Warped Tour & Taste of Chaos. Throw the Fight look to spend much of 2016 on the road and are kicking off the Transmissions album cycle with a handful of headlining shows and a run of dates with multi-platinum rock band Trapt.

Knockout Kid’s unique brand of aggressive pop punk hardcore has solidified them as one of the frontrunners of the scene, and they’ve spent the last year touring the U.S. and Canada extensively in support of their self-released debut, “ICWTJD.” Having been compared to Four Year Strong, A Day To Remember, and The Wonder Years, KNOCKOUT KID hit the studio last year to add their own twist on the sound they have come to call their own. Speaking on the recent signing, the band said, “Joining the Bullet Tooth family is a dream come true for KNOCKOUT KID. Having grown up on bands from Josh and Bullet Tooth, it’s only right that they release our most ambitious album to date. The future has never been brighter.”
