Dyecrest

unnamed

Dyecrest released a new single ‘Fading/Reaching’ Melodic metal masters release their third full length album next week. Founded in 1993 in Finnish city of Mikkeli, Dyecrest has today released its third single from their upcoming full length album ‘Are You Not Entertained?’.

On 2003 Dyecrest reached the 2nd position on ‘Young Metal Gods’ competition and signed a record deal with Noise Records. After that the band has toured among with bands like W.A.S.P. and Dragonforce around Europe. After a bit longer period of silence Dyecrest is releasing their third album on May 25th via Inverse Records. Already there have been released two singles from this album. First Born Angel as first single and Red Alert that shows a bit more aggressive side of Dyecrest and features Soilwork singer Björn “Speed” Strid.

“The first demo of the Fading/Reaching was recorded already ten years ago” tells the drummer Niko Takala. “The verses have changed a lot during years but the chorus is still mainly as the original”.

The track is melodic and hooky but it also holds a strong story lyrically.

“The lyrics tell how holding on to certain things and principles is even more important than staying alive”, Niko explains. “The narrator is like writing a reminder for generations to come that “Hi! I really was the person you saw and experienced – not what those who destroyed me are claiming'”

“When we released our first album 15 years ago our record company thought that music videos are too expensive and there isn’t enough opportunities to get them to the audiences eyes. The time has changed since that”, the band contently comments the possibilities that modern technology offers.

Sigrid

unnamed

BBC Sound of 2018 winner and the exceptional breakout star, Sigrid, releases new video for ‘High Five’ today. The Spielberg inspired coming-of-age visual is directed by long-term collaborator Ivana Bobic, a relationship that has already spawned videos for breakout hit ‘Strangers’ and the live hybrid for ‘Raw’.

The colossal pop song has already amassed 4M streams in 4 weeks and is about “the importance of those relations where you both dare to be completely honest with each other, rather than exchanging superficial ‘high fives” says the 21-year-old pop sensation. The anthemic track follows the beautifully poignant ‘I Don’t Want To Know’ and the unadulterated ‘Raw,’ a collection of songs that will culminate in an EP.

Drowning In You

unnamed

DROWNING IN YOU stand for an explosive mixture of Hardcore, Post-Hardcore and Metalcore. In one moment you can enjoy brutal guitar riffs combined with raw Screamo and in the next, the band changes their style into rather quite soundscapes with emotional melodies and clean vocals until the guys start their next attack. On September 7th, 2018, DROWNING IN YOU will prove this on their full-length debut „Here Is Hope“ which will be released via Boersma Records.

Broadside

BROADSIDE have released a new video for “Summer Stained,” taken from the bands highly-acclaimed sophomore album Paradise. The heart-tugging clip takes an internal look at the bands relationships as seen through the eyes of their fans. The video also commemorates their life on tour, which starts tonight across Europe before creating more memories on this summer’s Vans Warped Tour.

Asking fans to submit photos of their BROADSIDE memories, vocalist Ollie Baxxter explains, “With the progression of social media and everybody having a camera in their pocket, a lot of moments are captured but unseen. We always meet so many people on tour and being able to relive those encounters again without the fear of ‘I hope I’m more than just a photograph’ was really inspirational. The fact that thousands of photos poured in shows that people really care about us (as we do them). The love is more than appreciated.”

“After any tour, we get back home and the train stops,” Baxxter expands on the rollercoaster of life on the road. “All that validation and purpose of waking up every day to perform music just stops. I would lie in bed feeling so lonely because I felt like I didn’t have a purpose and no one knew who I was in this big city. Validation went to my head but also the purpose of being an entertainer had vanished. We would look to those photos that we were tagged in and just reminisce on the interactions we were given and feel human again. “Summer Stained” is a reflection on the loneliness of giving all of yourself away in your music in hopes that you will fill the hole that is in your heart.”

BROADSIDE return to the stage as their European tour kicks off today in Germany with several dates of the Galaxy Camp Festival, followed by shows with Trash Boat and the Slam Dunk Festival across the UK. The band wrap up the tour with a trio of headlining shows which have been sold out for weeks, then return to the US to prepare for their appearance on the final Vans Warped Tour.

Baxxter adds, “We are over the moon excited for Slam Dunk! Some of the greatest bands of all time will be playing and it’s a blessing just to be in their presence. As far as the sold-out show in London, we cannot wait to make that the best damn show of our career! The moment when found out it was sold out, we felt alive and the fire in our minds and hearts burned any doubt away. I’ve always said on stage ‘We are here today because you told somebody about us and cared enough to buy a ticket or a T-shirt – so thank you,’ and I mean that. We cannot wait to see you!”

Cut Throat Finches

unnamed

Cut Throat Finches. An ironic name for a tiny bird, and conversely, for a Texas band with a giant sound. Singer-songwriter Sean Russell, a proud resident of the Ft Worth music scene, formed the band mid-2015 with a group of much-lauded players from the area. Cut Throat Finches lay out a songs that bring to mind a soundtrack to an epic film in a style inspired by their heroes in the British rock scene and American roots music. The band, signed to the critically acclaimed Hand Drawn Records, a cutting edge pressing plant and record label in Dallas, will release Polite Conversations (their 2nd album) on May 25th, celebrating with local area release parties and summer touring. Russell tells us the tale of the making of the record for the first time.

“When I was a kid and I broke a neighbor’s bird feeder, then lied about it to my mom even though she already knew I had done it. She delivered the soul crushing words to me that I will never forget, the classic “I expect more from you”. Well, I expect more from this country. I love this country, and I served in it’s Army. I refuse to believe that my friends who gave their lives, did so for this broken, paranoid State. It would be a disgrace to believe that the country we have become is the best we can do and not to expect more. Just as my mom expected me to behave better than I had, it would be insulting to believe that our behavior as a nation should not be better, and we cannot rise to a higher standard. This rotten feeling, the discontent, the consternation rose late in recording our first record, Reality. Sometimes literal hours would be lost where Taylor Tatsch and I would be reeling from the shock of what we were not only seeing from our panel of presidential candidates, but from the conversations around the politics.

This album took over a year to write and record. It was written over the 2016 Presidential Campaign, the shame of political scandal when Sanders was betrayed by the Democrats, the bathroom bills, Black Lives Matter movement, the Charlottesville Alt Right Christian racial violence, and the #metoo movement which breaks my heart to this day. People demanding that their truth is absolute, their ideology becoming a religious crusade, and no person would be spared the wrath. Politics and ideology before persons. Everyone has learned to scream, demand to be heard, and yet no one is listening to one another. The album does not propose solutions. It is snarky, witty, and meant for listeners. The politics of the day, and the behavior witnessed around it all, is simply the emotional landscape this album is written on.”

The album opens with “New Age”, which explores the ignorance, fear and stubbornness of the current discourse, and jabs at the apathy of a self-absorbed society that is resistant to compromise, but as Russell points out, it’s extremely danceable. “War Cry” is a song to encourage those who protest, or conversely fear standing up for themselves in life in general. It’s psyche rock style sets up lyrics that use water metaphors to depict a world where standing up for ones beliefs can be alienating. “Head in the Clouds” addresses the #metoo movement, with vocal phrasing/melodies reminiscent of George Harrison. The album diverts from politics and culture when the Finches deliver a dynamic, poppy tune about the difference between being in love with infatuation and being committed to understanding and intimacy and support for the object of one’s affection. “Trouble” explores the ways people deal with illness and loss in life and on social media.

Dead Girls Academy

IiB3PDP

DEAD GIRLS ACADEMY, with their album Alchemy less than a month from release (June 15), share the new track “Everything,” as the Los Angeles rockers continue the festival circuit across the US.

“Many times in my life I’ve been made to feel a lesser person, been told I’m a freak and spoken about negatively just because that person didn’t understand what I was about,” admits vocalist Michael Orlando. “There are so many different types of people in this world, however nobody is better than the other. ‘Everything’ points to the fact that we are all human and I strongly believe we should all have equal respect. It took many years for me to build a solid wall between these sorts of comments and people. When Ronnie (Radke) and I sat down to write, we wanted to speak truths and the truth is not always full of cherries. I want people to understand you’re not alone in this world. Hate is a low vibration and one that can be destroyed by understanding.”

DEAD GIRLS ACADEMY will be on tour throughout the summer with more dates to be announced soon.

Anna Aaron

Whynot quadratisch

Swiss producer and indie-songstress Anna Aaron releases latest fiery single ‘Why Not’ set for 18th May release via Radicalis Music. After previous successful singles ‘Stellarling’ and ‘Linda’, Anna Aaron initially gained notability by fellow Swiss jazz musician Sophie Hunger, prompting celebrated label Two Gentlemen Records (Fauve, The Young Gods, The Appleseed Cast) to take interest in the Basel-based artist and sign her right on the spot. Anna has since gained media attention from the likes of Swiss and German publications such as Sound Kartel, Le Canal Auditif, NBHAP, Les Inrocks, Spiegel Online just to name a few.

After releasing her debut full length ‘Dogs In Spirit’ via Two Gentlemen in 2012, Anna then joined the Erik Truffaz Quartet on their European Tour, where she collaborated on three tracks for their album “El Tiempo de la Revolución” released via Blue Note. This was then followed by her intoxicating sophomore album, ‘Neuro’ released in 2014 and produced by respected engineer David Kosten (Natalie Imbruglia, Bat For Lashes, Snow Patrol, Marina And The Diamonds, Faultline), with added contributions by prolific musicians such as Jason Cooper, drummer for the iconic post-punk band The Cure, as well as multi-instrumentalist Ben Christophers (Bat For Lashes and V2 Records alumni), gaining the talented musician considerable press and interest. Along with Anna, her brother and fellow producer Alain Meyer (The Golden, Sheila She Loves You) has co-produced her upcoming album entitled, ‘Pallas Dreams’, scheduled for 2019 release via Radicalis Music and once again mixed by Kosten.

Although her influences range from artists such as Nigel Godrich, Animal Collective, Popol Vuh – Anna Aaron’s music is a realm of her own, comparisons to similarly like-minded artists such as Lykke Li or PJ Harvey could be apt for her provocative and in-your-face nature. Her songwriting abilities could be likened to musicians such as Robyn or Anna Calvi for her overflowing passion and commitment.

The latest single ‘Why Not’ by Anna Aaron is a pounding electro-tinged voyage through kaleidoscopic whirlwinds; deep driving basslines and energetic percussion stream like rivers of lightning underneath Aaron’s provocative, animated vocal presence. Her confrontational lyrics “Why not have no expectations towards yourself?” reminds us of the impact one can have in this unforgiving world.

Speaking on the latest single, Anna comments: “I wrote ‘Why Not’ very fast in the spirit of the moment. The lyrics however were challenging to write because I wanted them to be cutting but also funny; so to make it work I had to maintain a high tension between precision and delirious ranting.”

Auramancer

O-ShiN

unnamed

Born to Russian immigrant parents in Germany, O-SHiN took her first steps into music as a solo artist in Holland 2 years ago, before eventually finding her artistic destiny in a lonely cabin in Sweden. Currently based in Berlin – O-SHiN has been on quite the journey and her music is all the better for it. Swirling electronics, pounding percussion and samples from the Swedish forest – all combine to create something very special and totally unique.

It was during O-SHiN stint in a cabin in the Swedish countryside with five befriended musicians, producers and a video artist, when things really began to click. After spending time in numerous sessions with many different producers in Stockholm, she felt the urge to seek inspiration surrounded only by nature and trusted friends. The ‘I / ∞’ EP is the fruit of that labor in the Swedish countryside.

Whilst in the Swedish cabin, they all started to collect and sample sounds from the forests, lakes, rivers and landscapes that surrounded them. Utilising a huge collection of exotic instruments they found in the barn, O-SHiN took the ideas that were formed during this summer and finished the production in Berlin, where she moved straight after Sweden.

The experience of this summer in Sweden turned out as the foundation the new project called O-SHiN. “It was a big adventure for eveyone involved” she says. “The location was dreamlike and had so much more to give than expected – like the collection of crazy instruments I’ve never used before. The lake, the campfire, the calmness in nature and making music. There’s nothing more beautiful to me then recording music like that.”

An existential realisation shapes O-SHiN’s music, and is mirrored in her thoughtful and imaginative lyrics: life is transient. Her music is about accepting death, which goes hand in hand with appreciating life and using the time we have. Musically, this is realised in a mixture of organic, familiar sounds; catchy arrangements on the one hand — and unusual, exotic harmonies and instruments on the other.

With more music and touring set to follow in 2018 — it’s an exciting time for O-SHiN.

Broken Bellows

unnamed

Broken Bellows was born in a van driving through the night somewhere in America. Before they were an alt-pop duo, Cory Brent and Will Prinzi were members of the pop punk band Reckless Serenade, who in the summer of 2016 had the grueling, amazing opportunity to play Vans Warped Tour. It was during the long drives from venue to venue in the middle of the night, while the rest of the band slept, that Cory and Will would keep themselves awake by making beats on the van stereo and singing hooks back and forth. These “sessions” would unknowingly culminate in the form of Broken Bellows’s first release The Card Table EP.

After Reckless Serenade had been catapulted into the national circuit, when the band was at its zenith and the stage was set to take over the country, the band imploded. From a shattered band, Broken Bellows rose with tenacity and a will to always keep the music alive, no matter the obstacles. While keeping honest to their pop punk roots, the pair was now free to explore endless genres, sounds, and emotions — armed with nothing more than a laptop, they had access to a whole universe of music-making right in their living room. After hearing the duo’s first songs, Fervor Records immediately signed Broken Bellows and released The Card Table EP on August 25, 2017. Since the birth of Broken Bellows, Cory and Will have been wildly writing, experimenting, and grooving nonstop from their New York apartment, and they are grateful and ready to share their music with the world. Their debut full-length I, Kaleidoscope promises to build upon the success of The Card Table and the songs are already seeing placements in shows such as Teen Mom and Just Add Magic. It will be released July 13 on Fervor Records.

Kristin Hersh

unnamed

As indie rock legend Kristin Hersh prepares for her sold-out show at Robert Smith’s Meltdown Festival next month, she is sharing a new track – ‘LAX’ – from her forthcoming album, and has rounded out her upcoming United Kingdom tour with new dates in support of this single and latest album ‘Wyatt at the Coyote Palace’, with poignant true stories bringing the listener into what the BBC calls Hersh’s “dark and dizzy world”.

‘LAX’ gives fans their first glimpse of new material from Kristin Hersh since 2016, providing a special preview of her forthcoming album ‘Possible Dust Clouds’, which is slated for release later this year via Fire Records thanks to a newly-penned contract. This single can be streamed at https://www.kristinhersh.com/Releases/possible-dust-clouds

Hersh has confirmed the addition of several new shows in England and Scotland in June surrounding her sold-out June 21 performance at Meltdown, the UK’s longest-running artist-curated music festival. Altogether, Hersh will perform 11 shows in the UK. Apart from previously announced shows in Glasgow, Newcastle, Halifax, Cambridge, Ramsgate and Brighton, sold out performances in London, Newcastle and Ramsgate have given cause for the addition of a second concert in each of these cities. A new show has also been added for Bristol. Tickets to these newly announced dates have just gone on sale.

Kristin Hersh is most recognised as the frontperson for the influential art-punk band Throwing Muses and power trio 50FOOTWAVE. Throwing Muses first gained traction in the early ‘80s, playing with similarly singular artists, such as The Pixies and Dinosaur Jr. They continue to release groundbreaking music, most recently with 2013’s double CD masterpiece ‘Purgatory/Paradise’

. Kristin’s solo career spun off in 1994 with the release of ‘Hips and Makers’, a widely acclaimed album that included ‘Your Ghost’, a duet with R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe. Since then, Kristin has released a steady stream of distinctly individual solo albums, including 2010’s ‘Crooked’, released as her first in the inventive book/CD format for which she is now known.

Support for Kristin on these dates will be friend and former Throwing Muses and Belly bass player Fred Abong, who will be touring his new solo acoustic EP, alternately described as “ragged Replacements” and “Elliott Smith with balls”. Hersh and Abong warmly recall their time together in Throwing Muses. Fred was part of the band at the time that ‘The Real Ramona’ was recorded. This tour is a celebration of this long-standing friendship, as well as an expression of their appreciation of each other’s solo efforts.

2016’s ‘Wyatt at the Coyote Palace’, on which Kristin played all of the instruments, received rave reviews; an explosive defined by blistering guitars, powerful drumming and her signature visceral vocal technique.

In 2004, Kristin formed 50FOOTWAVE, releasing a series of frighteningly intense mini-albums, the latest being the ‘Bath White’ EP was described as “a series of loud explosions, of velvet like dreams all intermingled at the same time”. Kristin’s writing career has flourished with the highly acclaimed ‘Paradoxical Undressing’ (released as ‘Rat Girl’ in the USA) and the award winning ‘Don’t Suck, Don’t Die’, a personal account of her long friendship with the late Vic Chesnutt.

Hersh’s UK tour kicks off on June 17 in Bristol at the Redgrave Theatre and wraps up in Britain’s south-east on July 1 at the Ramsgate Music Hall. Tour and ticket info for all shows can be found at www.kristinhersh.com/appearances.

Aye Nizzy

image002(1)

Stepping out of the shadows with his new single ‘Good For Me’, Aye Nizzy gives us a tantalizing taste of what to expect with his upcoming debut EP The Summer of ’94. Already receiving huge attention from DJ Target’s BBC Radio 1xtra show, after his recent cult smash ‘Ten Ten’ asserting the right as every good house party’s jam across the UK, the 23-year-old from Nottingham follows a path similar to Skepta, who also clashed on Lord Of The Mics, breaking down the barriers and stigma of being ‘just’ a grime MC.

On ‘Good For Me’ which Okay Africa premiered the video for, Nizzy says: “Good For Me is when Jamaica & Africa meet the Orient half way. The inspiration behind the song was depicting a classic relationship scenario where a male and female are madly in love but outside interference causes doubt but in the end true love prevails. The sound is heavily influenced by Jamaican & African music with a sprinkle of the orient. The oriental flutes emphasise this, as well as the video setting.”

Produced by Jay Ramsay, The Summer of ’94 is a feel-good compilation with a unique configuration, as it entices the audience to dance with beats that flow through your body, whilst also creating this feeling of comfort and chill at the same time. Aye Nizzy demonstrates his own versatility and proves that as an artist you don’t need to be narrowed or defined to one specific genre as he refuses to be confined by boxes or boundaries. The future of British music is looking safe in the hands of Aye Nizzy.

Magique

unnamed

Today, Magique is sharing the video for his stunning new single ‘Unexpected Friends’. Recorded during an intense stint in Foals’ Oxford studio, Magique as a project has quickly blossomed in to a huge body of music. Swirling dream-pop which rises and falls with simplistic grace – ‘Unexpected Friends’ is a hugely impressive offering from the new artist.

Splitting his time between Leicester and Oxford, Magique (real name CJ Pandit) has made a name for himself the past few months supporting the likes of Fickle Friends and Geowulf on tour – and is set to appear at various festivals over the summer.

“Unexpected Friends is about the whole cycle of friendships and how they end up overlapping and morphing into something quite beautiful” – explains Magique. “It’s easy to take your circles for granted and how these people came to be around you, so I just wanted to write a love letter to the people that stick by me.”

With an intriguing blend of introverted, dreamy euphoria, Magique was born out of late night solo writing sessions across a whirlwind summer, followed by an intense stint in Foals’ Oxford studio, Magique as a project has quickly blossomed in to a huge body of music.

With a goal of making music that will connect with as many people as possible, Magique went on to say: “I started Magique as an outlet for trying to explain myself in a better way. I’ve always sucked at being open and visceral with my words, and have a tendency to be quite insular when it comes to emotions.” energy into the project. “I’ve always had a love for bands and artists who are openly honest in their songwriting and leave it all in a record or a performance,” he says. “It’s easy not to take risks in such a disposable age.”

Magique will be touring over the summer, with dates to be announced alongside his already confirmed list of festivals. With an EP on the way too – it’s a very exciting time for the newcomer.

Ozmotic

OZMOTICLIVE500

Electronic and instrumental duo OZMOTIC have announced their upcoming album “Elusive Balance” which is set to drop on the 6th July via TOUCH. Comprised of Simone Bosco and Riccardo Giovinetto, the duo has received support by notable publications Resident Advisor, Fact Mag, UNCUT, Noisey as well as radio play from BBC Radio 3. Bosco and Giovinetto have collaborated individually and as a collective with the likes of Christian Fennesz, Murcof, Senking, Bretschneider, William Parker, Mary Halvorson and Murcof, just to name a few. As individuals, they represented Italy in the International Biennial of Sarajevo, won the “Movin ‘up” award of the Italian Ministry of Culture and conducted 80 percussionists in the opening ceremony of the XX Olympic Games at Teatro Regio di Parma, Turin, broadcast worldwide, a popular theatre which has hosted extraordinary performances by legendary artists such as famed opera-star Luciano Pavarotti.

OZMOTIC are an innovative duo with extensive musical affiliations. Also having performed at festivals such as Todays Festival, State-X Festival, also at the prestigious Army Theater in Sarajevo, Petrozavodsk Theater and Corner Exchange in Turin.

Inspired by ambient to techno and instrumental music, the duo was established in Italy and have been experimenting with electronic sounds that can be characterized by intense rhythmic research, tonal variety as well as visual art. Using their extensive musical techniques to work with actors, performers and digital artists to integrate visual art and audio video concepts to give their performances a deeper dimension.

Drawing influences from artists such as Bjork, Miles Davis, Steve Lacy, Pan Sonic, Chris Watson amongst others, OZMOTIC’s style could be compared to artists like Alva Noto, Boards of Canada and even hints of Jon Hopkins, or rather a cohesive blend of all three. With an impressive list of skills the duo have also collaborated with Fennesz (“Air Effect”) – Senking (remix in ‘Liquid Times’) and Frank Bretschneider (remix in ‘Liquid Times’) and have hypnotized fans with their artistry of cinematic layering and electro infused ambient sounds. Their use of an array of electronic equipment paired with mixing different genres like IDM, noise and jazz create a unique sound that expresses OZMOTIC’s true form.

OZMOTIC give insight into their upcoming LP, commenting, “‘Elusive Balance’ explores the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the search for balance. Equilibrium is a junction point and evolutionary engine – unstable and elusive. Musically the album seeks of resolution of sound contrast, in a continuous search for an emotional component that gives simultaneously a feeling of tension and stillness.”

PBSM

image002

Danish alt-rock duo PBSM are back with a new indie rock song ‘Struck By Lightning’, the follow up to their single “Dancefloor” which premiered at Clash Magazine earlier this year and received an abundance of International praise from publications and radio both in Europe and across the Atlantic. Now, the band is ready to prove they are not just a one show pony with melancholic indie vibes that throughout this tune’s course unfold into an outro of a full-on rock escapade.

A soft bell-theme kicks it off and together with the chiming rhythm guitars, the song sets into a stern rock beat. The lyrics begin: “Right words stuck with a slow voice…” immediately suggesting that something hidden or untold is going to build up and burst out, like a lightning bolt out of the ominous dark sky.

The outro sparks into flames with the words: “There’s a fire inside the heart won’t show” and together with a wall of guitars, the theme of the song is put into a new perspective – breathing in and out like waves hitting the shoreline. Layered vocals are chanting towards the end, and even though the song hits its climax, the lyrics contradictorily state that there is still something boiling inside –something standing in the way of the redemption and catharsis that comes with a great thunderstorm. The music is both melancholic and explosive and paints a sound collage that is evenly cold, dark and psychedelic.

‘Struck by Lightning’ is a standalone single which drops right in between the band’s latest release and new EP coming up in the fall of 2018. Along with the single PBSM is letting go of an up-tempo rendition of the classic Lana Del Rey song “Blue Jeans”. With a respectful nod to the original and Lana’s dusty sensual voice the PBSM version jumps into a different rock-infused realm, fused by gritty fuzz guitars and a cheeky off beat hihat pattern on the drums.

On both tracks the duo is accompanied by Danish drummer Lasse Herbst (Blue Foundation, Fallulah, Choir of Young Believers)

PBSM is Lauritz Carlsen (Vox, guitars) and David Tholander (Bass, Drummachine) and started out as a long-distance songwriting relationship between Berlin and Copenhagen over a year and a half period. During this time, the Berlin crowd around the 8mm bar (incl. bands such as The Brian Jonestown Massacre, Spacemen 3, Kadavar, The December Sound, Blue Angel Lounge, Cavern of Anti Matter) and a love for psych and krautrock, formed the band and the songs from the beginning. A couple of DIY 7″ releases formed the basis for the band’s debut EP released through Copenhagen-based label Møs Møs.

Alexis Salgado

With music as her passion and Miami as her playground, Cuban-American singer/songwriter Alexis Salgado is quickly rising among the ranks as ‘one to watch.’

“Being an artist in Miami is very different,” shares Salgado on her hometown. “It’s not easy. There’s a lot of competition, a lot of people vying for their shot.

“You always have to work that extra bit harder to succeed.”

Thankfully, working that extra bit harder comes naturally to Salgado. It was during an intense recording session for a different set that the makings of “Crazy” came to be, and she happily added more to her musical plate to do.

“I was actually in the studio recording a different song,” Salgado recalls, describing how “Crazy” came to be. “My producer Shorne showed me this new beat he was working on.

“I could help it. I fell in love with it instantly, and had to start writing to it.”

One listen and it’s easy to hear why. Relatable and infectious, “Crazy” is set to be a summer hit.

“It’s just one of those songs that sticks with you the way a person sticks with you,” muses Salgado on her feelings behind the song. “It’s about the way someone can make you feel both physically and emotionally when it comes to love.”

Born in San Gabriel, California Salgado moved to Miami by way of San Marino, instilling in her a diverse, bi-coastal perspective. Falling in love with singing at the age of three, she counted herself a veritable songwriter by age eight. Her parents, seeing her talent and keen to support, quickly signed her up for professional singing lessons to finesse her capabilities further.

County fair, city concert and local club appearances soon began to tally on Salgado’s resume and, in 2011, she was approached and signed to her first label deal via Carrillo Music.

From there, she was off to the races… Her first release, “Never Knew” with Liam Keegan, reached #1 in the UK and #35 on the US Billboard Dance charts, and her latest — ”Ride or Die” with Izaar James — hit #32 on the Billboard Mediabase Indicator Charts.

While she counts vocal powerhouses Christina Aguilera, Mariah Carey, Toni Braxton — not to mention the late greats Michae

Creature Canyon is the collaborative brainchild of Southern California natives Austin Steele, Ryan Amyot, and Kyle Victoria. They’re a high energy rock band with melodic guitar riffs, vivid bass lines, boisterous rhythms, and in-your-face vocals, whose sound has been described as “a groovy, spastic blend of indie rock riffs delivered with a bluesy throwback.” – Free Bike Valet

The band’s debut single “Life I Know” garnered initial attention from legendary San Diego alternative radio station 91X, where the song quickly entered daily rotation. The airplay led them to receive the locally-coveted status of 91X’s “local break” artist, which opened doors to supporting alt-legends Empire Of The Sun, Phoenix, and several others at the 91X’s ‘X-Fest 2017’. “Life I Know” has also enjoyed airplay on Los Angeles’ world renowned rock station KROQ.

Creature Canyon spent much of 2017 branching out into LA’s Eastside music community, showcasing, and performing as direct support for an extensive list of nationally touring acts along the West Coast. The band kicked off 2018 by recording in LA’s distinguished United Recording Studios and plans to spend the year rolling out new music from their forthcoming EP titled ‘Did You Want That’, available everywhere October 19th, 2018.

DRUGZZ

Krager 2-X5
Up and coming future-bass artist DRUGZZ shares latest single ‘I Didn’t Mean To Do’ on May 11th via Super Serious, mastered by Joe LaPorta of Sterling Sound Studio (David Bowie, Imagine Dragons, Grizzly Bear, The WEEKND, Armin Van Buuren, X Ambassadors, Foofighters, The Killers) and produced by Robbie Gardunio (Siglia, Bohnes, Eyho). Having previously worked with Spinnin Deep’s De Hofnar and Ziggy Alberts (TWO LANES), it’s no surprise his previous dizzying single ‘Someone Other Than Me’ has almost hit the 50 thousand mark on YouTube alone. This Nashville-based artist is sure to turn heads, move feet and drop jaws with his own signature mash-up of beloved emotions, textures and genres.

Born from the slums of upscale suburbia Tennessee, Sam Alan began his childhood without much of a chance. Coming from a loving family of 6, he always felt insufficient and looked over. He became depressed early on in life because his three brothers always kicked his ass on Xbox. Ultimately getting the best of himself, Sam never learned that life was meant to be enjoyed, thus leading him to live vicariously through the artist known as DRUGZZ: “I spent the last 6 years of my life starting and running a fresh salsa company called Uncle Kragers. I was working 70 hours in a kitchen chopping fucking cilantro while all my friends were outside going on vacations and playing sold out shows. Our company did very well, but I ended up hating my life. Inspiration comes in many ways – sometimes through cilantro stained hands.” he says.

A collector of vintage drum gear, DRUGZZ is inspired by rhythm, and sitting at a drum set is crucial for his writing process. He used an old Rogers drum set to make samples for the record, adding in the swirling synth sounds of the innovative Moog Sub Phatty. Citing influences such as Blink-182, The Chemical Brothers, Lupe Fiasco, Copeland, The National, Death Cab for Cutie, DRUGZZ’ sound has been likened to as a crossover between Louis The Child and Simple Plan.

DRUGZZ’ latest single ‘I Didn’t Mean To Do’ swims in luminosity; throbbing basslines, solid percussive bliss and Sam’s energetic yet ferocious vocal-build sets the tone. Smoothly sung passages slowly turn to powerful, unforgiving screams, creating an anthemic aura encompassing on the track’s nostalgic nature. Powerful, swaying synthesizers bleed onto an atmospheric ambient section before erupting into his unique brand of experimental dancefloor antics.

Speaking on the latest single, DRUGZZ encapsulates on past experiences growing up in Tennessee, and the impact it’s had on his unique vision as a skilled up-and-coming producer, commenting: “This song was inspired by an instance in high school – Cheers to growing up, and growing up again.”

Chilly Gonzales

Grammy-winning Canadian pianist, entertainer and composer Chilly Gonzales will release the final album of his Solo Piano trilogy, Solo Piano III, on 7th September 2018. The album comes six years after Solo Piano II and, according to Gonzales, at “a more problematic inflection point”. “Like its predecessors, it’s a mostly happy ending in C major, but there is more dissonance, tension and ambiguity along the way… The musical purity of Solo Piano III is not an antidote for our times, it is a reflection of all the beauty and ugliness around us.”

Known as much for the intimate piano touch of best-selling albums Solo Piano I and Solo Piano II as for his showmanship and composition for award-winning stars, “Gonzo”, as he is known to close collaborators, aims to be a man of his time, approaching the piano with classical and jazz training but with the attitude of a rapper. He holds the Guinness world record for the longest solo concert at over 27 hours. He performs and writes songs with Jarvis Cocker, Feist and Drake, among others, with recent collaborators including the likes of Ibeyi and Toddla T. With Never Stop, Chilly Gonzales composed a global hit for the inaugural Apple iPad 2 campaign. In 2014 he won a Grammy for his collaboration on Daft Punk’s ‘Best Album of the Year’ and composed the best-selling book of easy piano pieces Re-Introduction Etudes. With his last album Chambers, Chilly Gonzales devoted himself to finding a modern take on chamber music.

Most recently, Chilly Gonzales ventured into a new form of entrepreneurship. A culmination of recent years’ explorations in teaching, Gonzo inaugurated his very own music school: The Gonzervatory. During this all-expenses-paid residential music performance workshop held in Paris, 7 selected students explored Musical Humanism, audience psychology and what it means to be a performing musician in 2018. After a week of intensive coaching, masterclasses and rehearsals, these young musicians performed a concert for an audience of 1500 fans with Chilly Gonzales himself as Master of Ceremony. The Gonzervatory Workshop and Concerts were livestreamed on pan-European TV station Arte Concert to record-breaking audiences (Arte’s 2nd most viewed concert). Plans are already being made for the 2019 edition.

Nick Brewer

image002

Nick Brewer has been on somewhat of a journey over the last few years. From a top 20 hit with ‘Talk To Me’ on Island Records, to seemingly disappearing. But Nick has been slowly but surely building back up over the past 18 months, regularly releasing new songs under the umbrella title of ‘Many Moods’.

“Many Moods’ was just a way of me being able to express myself and how I was feeling over whatever type of beat reflected my mood at the time. I’d got to a point with my record label where, for various reasons, they were not prepared to release the music I was giving to them, which left me feeling very frustrated. I became disillusioned with music and the whole industry for a while, but then I realised that I’ve got something to say.” Explains Brewer.

Now Nick is back with a hard hitting single, ‘Headphones’ produced by The Incredibles (Ghetts, Quavo). ‘Headphones’ is about not making snap judgements of people and choosing to look deeper than what might be presented on the exterior. “You don’t know someone’s story until you actually take time to find out what it is and that’s what I’m challenging people to do in this song, including myself.” adds Brewer.

‘Headphones’ sees Nick talking about his experiences of growing up in East London, from resisting the pressures of getting involved in street activities, to the first time he got robbed. There is a notably different voice on the chorus, although there is no feature on the song. The track is talking from the perspective of someone that is involved in life ‘on the roads’. It’s a creatively intelligent story telling expressing a rare freedom and honesty backed by an infectious heavy backdrop.

With a new project in the works, due for release later this year, this is just the beginning of what Nick has to offer in 2018. ‘I feel like I’ve had some interesting experiences over the last couple years, which has definitely shaped my views and reminded me that I’ve got something to say, now it’s down to me to get people to listen’.

Theodore

Multi-instrumentalist and composer Theodore releases yet another atmospheric single titled ‘Spit Blood Out (Single Version)’ scheduled for 8th June via United We Fly. Following the release of last stirring single, ‘Towards? (for what is to come)’, the Greek performer has already garnered considerable success with his previous album It Is But Its Not which was co-produced by Clive Martin (Queen, Reef) mixed by Ken Thomas (Sigur Rós, Moby, M83) and performed live at the fabled Studio 2 at Abbey Road Studios. With over 1.7 million Youtube views, he has received radio play from the likes of BBC Radio 6 Music’s Lauren Laverne and French station RadioKC, included as part of NPR Music’s ‘SXSW 2018: Our Favorite Discoveries And Memorable Moments’ and has received support from publications such as CLASH Mag, FGUK, Gaffa, Tsugi and Szene. Theodore has graced the stages of Live at Heart Festival and Reeperbahn Festival -where he was named Best Performance Of 2017. He supported Sigur Ros and DIIV at Release Festival (Athens) in 2016, has just performed Eurosonic Noorderslag and showcased his talents at this years SXSW Festival.

Based in Athens, Theodore’s schooling in piano and traditional Greek folk music lead to a professional music career in London, where he studied Music Composition in 2011. Theodore has written music for theatrical pieces such as Matina Megla’s Window, Vladan Nikolic’s film Bourek, and was commissioned to write a new score for Buster Keaton’s classic silent comedy of 1928, The Cameraman. Theodore and his band then performed the score live to the film screening, in the unforgettable setting of the Temple of Zeus in Athens, which he describes as “one of the best moments of my life.” Theodore has gained notoriety for his memorable live performances, dazzling audiences with his mesmerizing stage presence.

Fusing classical composition with electronic elements to create beautiful, atmospheric and often cinematic songs, his sound is characterized by contrasting styles. Citing influences such as Sigur Ros, Radiohead, Pink Floyd, Doors, Chatzidakis, Vagelis Papathanasiou, Nils Frahm, The National, Olafur Arnalds, Arcade Fire, Max Richter, his unique mélange of influences allow a broad scope of movement, from ethereal classical movements to driving, melancholic post-rock sections.

Theodore’s ‘Spit Blood Out (Single Version)’ is a triumphant, atmospheric swirl of emotions; tight percussion, soaring vocals, celestial synthesizers and intoxicating basslines all float amidst solar rays of shimmered guitar tones. Sorrowed piano’s twinkle and glimmer like distant stars, circling back through cascading decadence before erupting brighter than the heavens themselves.

On the latest single, Theodore comments, “A final struggle to gather all your strength and prepare for the ultimate inner battle. A voice in your head that screams for solution”, encapsulating on the struggles we all succumb to whilst facing inner demons. A reminder that all is not lost, and hope can prevail.

Emilie Nicolas

unnamed

Emilie Nicolas drops her phenomenal second album ‘Tranquille Emile’, 4 years after the release of her critically acclaimed and internationally adored debut full length ‘Like I’m A Warrior’.

The new album perfectly showcases Emilie’s unique sense of melody and her effortless ability to combine life’s dark moments and the highlights of love through her lyrics. A careful balance between cinematic love, and graceful sorrow – ‘Tranquille Emile’ is sure to more than please fans of SZA, FKA Twigs, and Frank Ocean.

Emilie’s debut single ‘Pstereo’ arrived in 2013, making an immediate impact on the Norwegian music scene. Her debut album Like I’m A Warrior (2014) was released shortly thereafter, and went straight to number one on the Norwegian album chart.

She went on to receive two Spellemann awards (Norwegian Grammy), in the Best New Artist category and Best Pop Act category.

Aside from ‘Pstereo’, all the songs on Like I’m A Warrior were written and co-produced by Emilie herself, and they bear witness of a wide range of influences.

Emilie went on to tour that album across Europe and on her home turf in Norway. With a unique textural universe, a great sense of melody and an intriguing stage presence – she captivated audiences everywhere, and was considered one of Norway’s most exciting and promising pop acts.

Amid all these positive events, Emilie suddenly went quiet. Illness forced her to take a break from music and the limelight she found herself in – until 2017. In January of that year, she released standalone single ‘Sky’. Almost a year and a half later – now Emilie Nicolas returns with her truly stunning second full length album Tranquille Emile.

The making of the album started about a year ago, and has been an incredibly open and inclusive process. In addition to Emilie and producer Eivind Helgerød, many of her friends and artist colleagues have contributed – and in various ways made their mark on the album; along with the artwork, made by five year old Jon Stoesen Chocron.

A number of producers were involved in the recording process, along with more than 20 different musicians and a large choir, featuring Norwegian soul star Jarle Bernhoft.

Norwegian press have been quick to compare the new record with the likes of SZA, FKA Twigs, and Frank Ocean – quite rightly, as the album more than stands up to those lofty comparisons.

While ‘Dark Matter’ sounds heartbreaking and the vocal bridge almost exhausting, ‘Future’ is the perfect reflection of a new love’s early moments.

‘Roots’ takes us to her fear of the baffling universe and the inevitable existential questions. The electronic pop banger ‘String’ is a dysfunctional love story, and ‘Wild One’ points at the relationship between men and women – where she instead of being the bad boy’s lover, ends up nurturing him like a son. Watch the visual stunning video for ‘Wild One’ here.

Emilie is always brutally honest, and boldly pointing at complicated structures and habits. She’s introspective but certainly not insular; the stories have an innate universality about them that are remarkable.

Journalists are already comparing the six minute long revelation ‘Feel Fine’ to Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ – with its painfully honest lyrics (“I’m such a loser, can’t keep anything”) and magical, hypnotic sound.

Let’s not forget Emilie’s incredible voice – which magically manages to sound excited, defiant and nonchalant at the same time. Tranquille Emile is a melancholic and electronic but also warm and soulful chapter in the history of this Norwegian star.

Tim Carr

14516452_1154830701222552_5286641812328317367_n

Tim Carr is a Los Angeles based singer, composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. His music is a stunning mix of instrumental interludes, and minimal folkesque songs inspired by African rhythms, melodies of the French Romantics and 60s pop.

Raised in Marin County, Northern California, Carr was surrounded by a family of musicians. At an early age he immersed himself into music and studied Jazz drums at the prestigious California Institute of the Arts. After graduating with a BFA, Carr soon began working with notable acts including HAIM, Julian Casablancas and Nick Cave, to name a few. His time with the band The Americans saw him performing on Letterman, recording with T Bone Burnett, as well as being featured in the Emmy-nominated documentary ‘American Epic’, which was produced by T Bone Burnett, Jack White and Robert Redford.

Carr’s highly anticipated upcoming EP Swing & Turn, is the follow up to his 2016 release The Last Day of Fighting, which found success being featured on Robert Redford’s ‘Watershed’ soundtrack, alongside the likes of Beck and Thom Yorke. Swing & Turn is titled after the feeling of movement, like a dance between intimacy and independence, which is also a common theme in the music. Having mixed, produced and engineered the five track release himself, Swing & Turn is the perfect balance of dissonance and consonance, with unexpected swelling harmonies, lilting rhythms and minimalistic pop.

Leading single ‘Take Me There’ is a compelling tale touching on the desire to escape apathy, highlighting the need to either let go and fully love or let go of a love. Carr expresses this poetic melancholy through his raw and understated tones, emitting the purest of expressions. His use of delicate instrumentation, ethereal vocal harmonies and graceful melodies, succeeds in crafting a poignant yet beautiful song.

‘Long Enough Along For The Ride’ showcases Carr’s complex arrangements and variety of unique tones. Focusing on the emotions of anxiety when making a decision and the fear of commitment and separation, the song narrates a feeling that is entirely relatable. This track highlights Carr’s conscious decision to leave imperfections during the recording process, adding a looseness and raw energy to the music. “I like when there is a brokenness mixed with a sweet melody”, reveals Carr.

With his desire to inspire creativity, experimentation and individuality, Carr is delivering audiences with moments of escapism. Swing & Turn is set for release summer 2018.
