A four piece metal band from Borås, Sweden. With Åsa’s distinctive female vocals, Zephyra provides a wide sound in the metal genre, with the roots in thrash and melodic death metal.Since the official start back in 2011, the band has released a couple of EP’s, played shows around Sweden, done live shows on the radio, and frequently been aired in American and British radio shows. After signing a record deal in 2014, the debut album; ‘Mental Absolution’ was
released world wide on Wormholedeath label. The album received positive reviews and was followed up by two official videos.

The second full length album; ‘As The World Collapses’, was recorded in the last quarter of 2015, and will be released on August 5, 2016 via Inverse Records. With the new album, Zephyra wants to show a bigger and more atmospheric sound than before, heavy and rhythmic, with keyboards and Åsa’s full ranged, diverse vocals.

Me and Mark

Mia & Mark have a wide range of experiences in music and have grasped a new sound they call “story-pop”. All the songs are written by Mia and the stories she tells are all based in real experiences. Mia is an amazing talent. Energy to spare and a voice that can only be described as “generational”. She captures your attention with her voice but it is the delicate songwriting that keeps you mesmerized. With experience on the stage, both musically and theatrically, since the age of 5, Mia brings a veteran’s poise to everything they do. Mark Axiak has collaborated with some of the worlds best producers, artists and institutions, including touring the world with world famous bands as a guitarist. He also works as a producer at Urban Sound and is looked up on as one of the finest engineers in his field.

The first single off their upcoming album, Me & Mark release “When Rich Finds Gold”, to much anticipation back home in Scandinavia. The is the type of track that you find yourself humming, dancing, crying and singing along to all over the course of a weekend…and you’ll be continually alternating emotions with every successive play.

Raz Fresco

After teaming up with hip hop icon Nas’ signee Bishop Nehru on “Equinox” and rap don Raekwon on “Influenza”, rising Toronto-based rap sensation Raz Fresco breaks new ground with another imaginative video from his debut album Pablo Frescobar (Black Light Music).

Described as one of the most stimulating single’s from the critically-acclaimed Pablo Frescobar – named among the best Canadian Albums of 2015 via Complex (the only other urban music picks came from Drake, The Weekend and John River) – Raz teams up with grime phenom Tre Mission, one of the first North American artists to be linked with the predominantly United Kingdom-based rap genre, for the world-wide premiere of “Swervin in Bape” which debuted on The FADER today.

Directed by Abstrakte for music video production company Mad Ruk (Future’s “Low Life” featuring The Weeknd, Alessia Cara’s “Here”), the video shows Raz riding around Toronto city streets with trick bikes, accompanied by golden apes, A Bathing Ape Japanese clothing brand gear, while a plethora of sharp multi angle camera shots flaunt an assortment of stimulating hip hop artifacts that pay homage to one of rap’s golden era’s. This video arrives as Raz preps his sophomore Time Waits For No Man album slated for a fall 2016 release.

Make Music Day

Make Music Day, the annual global celebration featuring more than 3,000 free, outdoor music making events in the United States, returns tomorrow – June 21. The daylong event, which affirms the transformative power of music in our lives, will be experienced by millions of people in over 38 U.S. cities including New York City, Los Angeles, Chicago, Boston, Nashville, San Diego, Seattle, Portland (OR), Madison (WI), Philadelphia, Detroit, Denver, Cleveland, Washington, D.C., St. Louis, Chattanooga, Minneapolis/St. Paul, San Antonio and the entire state of Vermont, while smaller festivities are popping up around the country.

More than 175 single-instrument Mass Appeal events will take place across the country, bringing together musicians – of all levels and ages – to make music in large groups led by experienced facilitators. Instruments played in Mass Appeal events include guitars, harmonicas, accordions, flutes, recorders, pianos, saxophones, bagpipes, percussion, trombones, bassoons, French horns, music boxes, synthesizers, ukuleles, and more.

Free guitar, harmonica, ukulele, drum and other instrumental lessons are being offered nationwide. In New York City, 50 guitar teachers will set up in the pedestrian plazas around Times Square, equipped with a guitar for themselves and a guitar for anyone interested in learning to play, presented by Fender. In Nashville, The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum will be hosting free, group guitar lessons during which aspiring guitarists will learn basic chords and strumming techniques through familiar country songs.

Sousapaloozas in Chicago, Cleveland, New York and St. Paul, will bring together hundreds of brass and wind musicians to play the music of John Philip Sousa while Street Studios in Chattanooga, Los Angeles, Boston and New York will feature DJs and producers with a simple setup – a laptop, mics, MIDI controllers, speakers, and instruments – bringing gear and engaging passersby in a spontaneous, collaborative production of original music on the street. In partnership with Found Sound Nation, audio products leader HARMAN will transport the basic elements of a music studio to six public spaces in New York City and Los Angeles and in four cities abroad – and make them open and accessible to everyone in the local community. In Boston, Lumit Audio is presenting Street Studio.

Additional national Make Music Day 2016 highlights include:

Philip Glass, known as one of New York City’s iconic musical figures, will help usher in Make Music New York’s second decade by playing from his Etudes for piano at Pier i in Riverside Park, along with 40 students from New York City public schools.

Stones/Water/Time Breath, a meditative piece of music by Dean Rosenthal in which participants will skip stones and take in the beauty of the simple sounds of nature in Boston, Chicago, New York, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Seattle, and Washington, D.C.

“Shimmer” with Yeah Yeah Yeahs Drummer Brian Chase: In New York City, Boston, Chicago and Nashville, dozens of performers will premiere “Shimmer,” a new 45-minute work by Brian Chase of the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, scored for 16 (or more) Zildjian cymbals, arranged in a circle. Chase will lead the New York City performance at Madison Square Park.

Inside the Bird Chorus: New York City’s avian life is celebrated in this project by composer/clarinetist David Rothenberg, conceived as a dialogue between improvising musicians and native bird species of the city. Rothenberg performs at Brooklyn Botanic Garden, and their resident bird expert will be on hand for conversation. There will be similar performances by other musicians at wildlife havens in all five boroughs, at either dawn or dusk (prime bird-call hours), in partnership with the National Audubon Society.

The Bumblebee Challenge: Around the country, woodwind, brass and string players will strive to play the fastest, most accurate performance of Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Flight of the Bumblebee.” Participants can enter using a special free version of SmartMusic, the interactive music practice software.

“Eye of the Tiger” on Boomwhackers: Fans attending baseball games on Make Music Day in New York City (the minor league Staten Island Yankees) and in Madison, Wisconsin (the collegiate Madison Mallards) will be given Boomwhackers – pitched hollow pipes made of plastic. During the seventh-inning stretch, conductors and a singer will come onto the field and lead fans in a crowdsourced performance of Survivor’s anthemic “Eye of the Tiger,” inviting people to whack the tubes on cue, on the seats or bleachers in front of them. Original Survivor front man Dave Bickler, renowned for his vocals on “Eye of the Tiger,” will sing the classic hit at the Staten Island Yankees game.

Jazz Foundation of America, which offers a variety of programs and assistance for jazz and blues musicians in need, is presenting gigs in Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, Detroit, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, and Seattle, bringing more free, high-quality jazz to the public and giving performance opportunities to over a dozen living legends.

Clavinova Cafe: In an expansive project, 57 Yamaha Clavinova dealers around the country will invite the public to come to their stores and learn how to play a song in less than 15 minutes – even for those who have never before touched an instrument. Available songs will include the Game of Thrones theme, “Abide with Me,” “I Can’t Make You Love Me” (Bonnie Raitt), “Time in a Bottle” (Jim Croce), and “A Sky Full of Stars” (Coldplay).

Other events around the country will highlight the musical history and ingenuity of each city including:

Minneapolis, MN – John Munson of Semisonic, the Minneapolis-based alternative rock band whose song, “Closing Time,” soared to the top of the charts in 1998, will lead a ukulele jam session. Sheet music will be provided, just bring your uke.

Cleveland, OH – Twenty string players will perform the National Anthem at Progressive Field prior to the baseball game between the Cleveland Indians and Tampa Bay Rays. Additionally, musical groups lined up along the concourse will play throughout the game, and two bands will perform at each entrance gate when the stadium opens at 6 pm.

Salem, OR – Original and all current members of The Kingsmen will lead a play-along performance of their enigmatic 1963 hit, “Louie Louie”and musicians will perform on the steps of the State Capitol.

Auburn, AL – High school marching bands, drum lines, community choirs, electric guitars, people holding egg shakers and others will gather for a performance of the legendary song, “Sweet Home Alabama.”

Detroit, MI – A massive performance will take place on the front plaza of the Detroit Institute of Art.

LA’s Cage9 released their album ILLUMINATOR, on June 3rd in North America via eOne with a European release due out in July through SPV. In addition the record released June 3rd in JAPAN via TRIPLE VISION ENTERTAINMENT.

Cage9 main man Evan Rodaniche had this to say about the track. “This song is dedicated to my father, who passed away about a month ago after a two year battle with cancer. But even when I first wrote these lyrics at the onset of his terminal diagnosis as a sort of comforting mantra, in the back of my mind I believed my dad was indestructible. I never thought I’d be adding an “in loving memory” dedication at the end of this video. But then he was gone. And that’s what this is all about. We spend our modern lives wrapped up in our first world problems, completely disconnected with the natural cycles of the planet around us.”

He continues, “We shot the video DIY with a couple Canon DSLR cameras, a black sheet in our rehearsal room and about forty non-actor friends, fans and family who showed up one sunny Los Angeles afternoon in 2015 to mouth the lyrics to a song they’d never heard. We aimed to bring home the message that no matter who you are, we’re all in this together.

“Everything You Love” is also the track that caught David Ellefson’s attention and ultimately inspired him to sign us to EMP. After a few conversations with our A&R guy Thom Hazaert, he brought it to David, and he got it. The rest is history.”

Says Ellefson, “Cage9 is definitely the real deal. When I first heard “Everything You Love Will Someday Die”, it instantly struck me as the closest I’ve heard to a song with a true Metallica/Megadeth core, with the radio accessibility to really connect with a modern Rock audience. And with the band’s history, and everything they’ve accomplished, they were a perfect fit for what we are doing at EMP.”

Rodaniche continues, “As for the song, itself, it’s a little bit of old school thrash mixed with something more melodic and a little piano and acoustic guitar wankery to push it over the 6 minute
epic-metal-song mark. (Yes, there’s a radio edit.) I was the 14 year old kid running around with a worn out cassette of Peace Sells in his Walkman, so having the dude that brought us pretty much THE most recognizable bass riff of my, (and half the planet over 30’s) youth, dig our band is a HUGE honor.”

“Cage9 originated in Panama where I grew up playing in a band yet having pretty much never experienced famous bands performing live to learn from, not to mention any of our idols like Megadeth or Metallica. This definitely makes getting this chance to work with David in a mentor/label situation that much more amazing. Very excited to be releasing our new album Illuminator with EMP this summer.”

Eventually the band moved to Los Angeles, and with no outside help, has released almost 100 songs over 6 albums (including one in Spanish), sold 25,000 plus physical copies worldwide, toured the US (over 50 dates last year alone), Japan and Central America, as direct openers for Ozzy Osbourne, Bad Religion, Seether, In This Moment, and have also shared bills with Sevendust, Hellyeah, Karnivool and many more. Band mastermind Evan Rodaniche (who writes and produces all Cage9 material) also spent a few years on guitar with sci-fi metal purveyors Powerman 5000 and helped co-write, record, mix and produce their last few albums along with ex-Flyleaf singer Lacey Sturm’s new solo album, Boy Hits Car and more. The quartet now includes San Diego native Brian Sumwalt on
drums, Michigan transplant Matt Borowski on guitar, and Leslie Wyatt on bass and backing vocals.

With his third longplayer No Fantasy Required out now via Counter Records, Tiga premieres the second instalment in a brand new documentary series that lifts the lid on his creative process. Directed by Tiga himself and laced with his inimitable and irreverent humor, it was filmed in his hometown Montreal. Part Two is simply titled “Origins”. “Join me as I take the randomest of interviewers on a journey into my personal history, delving into my musical childhood, sharing my favorite place in the world, and opening up about how as a teenager I stood up to skinheads once and for all for all of us.”

Tiga’s latest single “Always” finds the Montreal Maniac teaming with half of Paranoid London to take the crowd’s temperature and offer a prescription of sweating it all out on the dance floor and calling him in the morning. The release also features a forthcoming “gutter” techno remix by Seth Troxler and Phil Moffa which adds lurid breathing sounds that wouldn’t be out of place in a PG-13 sex movie. B-side “I’m So Boss” finds Tiga cementing his rightful crown as Crown Boss of Electro to his head, where it will remain indefinitely.

Nearing the end of his epic three month residency at London’s XOYO, Tiga’s last date on Saturday 25th June will see him play all night long. Tickets still available here: Tiga is a musical evolution personified, with an unparalleled resumé that includes three solo albums, singles such as ‘Bugatti’, ’Sunglasses At Night’, ‘Pleasure From The Bass’, ‘You Gonna Want Me’ and numerous collaborative projects. Over the past few years, Tiga has toured internationally both as a DJ and a full live show, and further bolstered the international reputation of his record label Turbo.

Teddy and the Love Gang

Teddy and the Love Gang is an Oslo based weird-pop band coming to the table with fresh faces, open eyes, a cache full of catchy music and the childlike ambition to take over the world. They combine groovy and catchy melodies and the expression of the child with a dark and moody sound that appeals to an adult audience without taking itself too seriously. The lyrics focus on important topics and they ask philosophical questions about our existence, while the sound takes you back to your best memories of your childhood and all of it’s early video game glory. “Childhood” is the first single full of heartwarming nostalgia that makes you want to move and dance with no abandon…just like a little kid. Teddy and the Love Gang want you to experience their musical fairytale beyond what you have experienced before!

Esmé Patterson

Today Esmé released the music video for “No River” – PRESS HERE to watch via NPR “First Watch.” The song itself was dubbed an NPR “Songs We Love,” premiered as Zane Lowe’s “World Record” on Beats 1, and was reviewed last week in The New York Times’ Playlist, with Jon Pareles saying “A 1960s-soul backbeat, a laconic electric rhythm guitar, some pinging keyboard tones and backup voices going ‘ooh ooh are all Esmé Patterson needs in ‘No River…”

Blackfoot, the Southern American rock band who were originally formed in 1970’s by current lead guitarist of Lynyrd Skynyrd, Rickey Medlocke, are back with a new line-up and will release Southern Native on Loud & Proud Records, August 5, 2016. Over the last two years, Medlocke wrote, performed on and produced Southern Native. Blackfoot has always been defined by their hard rock edge as evident on their most successful singles “Train, Train” and “Highway Song.” In 2012, under Medlocke’s sturdy guidance, he recruited a completely new ensemble. The Jacksonville, Florida-based foursome, including lead guitarist/vocalist Tim Rossi, guitarist/vocalist Rick Krasowski, bassist Brian Carpenter and drummer Matt Anastasi, are carrying the torch for the next generation with their hard-driving sound.

“This record is head to head old school meets new school, classic to new rock for a brand new generation!” says Medlocke, “Turn it up loud!” “Rickey bridged the generations by having his grandfather Shorty Medlocke play on those early Blackfoot records,” said lead guitarist/vocalist Tim Rossi “so having Rickey play slide and other guitar with us on this record bridges the modern gap. It’s a full-circle kind of thing.” That forward-moving proof can be found deep within the music of Southern Native, from the proud heritage callbacks of the title track to the tasty slide-driven travelogue of “Take Me Home” to the harmonic ramrod-riffage twist on Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young’s powerful “Ohio” (which includes quite a shrewd lyrical shout-out at the end).

Blackfoot have toured extensively over the past few years re-igniting their fanbase while introducing the new Blackfoot music and its members to fans of other Southern rock artists such as Skynyrd. Blackfoot will be touring all summer in support of Southern Native.

It was late 2013, when Mats Rybø, a songwriter for the girls in the famous Norwegian band Katzenjammer, started to get serious attention for forming the band Tiergarten. His delicate vocals may garner much of the attention but the electronic sound wrapped in an effortless power-performance is what unifies the sound’s entirety.

Tiergarten has refined and perfected their style into a new sound that they feel encapsulates the essence of pop music with a rock dynamic, alternating between moments full of drama and a delightful energy.
The Oslo based band members are: Mats Rybø, Anne Marit Bergheim, Odd Kristian Svedal, Stian Sveen and Trine Skullestad Hølland.

The first single, “Der Zorn Gottes”, is driven by the two lead vocals and its perfectly balanced synths. The topic concerns megalomaniacs, the driven and twisted individuals who think they act on behalf of higher powers. It fuels a passion within the person that is simultaneously righteous and reviled, a dangerous dichotomy that plays perfectly into the strengths on display within the song.

Inter Arma

Independent music hubs BrooklynVegan and Invisible Oranges have shared a new song from the forthcoming INTER ARMA album Paradise Gallows alongside an interview with vocalist Mike Paparo. BrooklynVegan commented on the track,”‘Primordial Wound’ demonstrates the immense control that Inter Arma have over the art of songcraft.”

Following the release of their debut album, Full Circle, on Matador Records this past March, London-based trio HÆLOS today announces its plans to return stateside for a run of July and August tour dates. HÆLOS mesmerized American audiences this past spring — in clubs, SXSW, and Coachella — with their spine-tingling male-female vocals, darkly intoxicating melodies, and atmospheric textures, plus the addition dueling drummers who lend a massive burst of ethereal energy to the commanding live set-up. The band is excited to bring its immaculate live show to major festivals (including Lollapalooza, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits) and West Coast markets this summer, and the full list of tour dates can be found below.

On their darkly shaded and radiant debut album, Full Circle, HÆLOS’ rippling electronic pop conjures the exhilarating privacy of a cavernous club’s dark pockets and the introspective comedowns that accompany rainy 5 a.m. cab rides. “It’s the music you put on after the club,” Lotti Benardout, who shares vocal duties with her other bandmates, Arthur Delaney and Dom Goldsmith, states. “You can still feel that energy and euphoria, but it might bring you back to reflect on certain moments or memories.”

Filled with catharsis, Full Circle is an embodiment of a sound that has been referred to as “dark euphoria”. Throughout the album, HÆLOS reconstruct the firmament of dance sounds past and present to construct an exquisitely elegiac mood that retains a sense of presence as it conveys the pain of emotional distance. Every moment of uneasy reflection is matched by quiet explosions—Delaney’s forceful shouts over yo-yo synths on Full Circle’s title track, Benardout’s layered pleas over Goldsmith’s cascading drum breaks on “Pray,” and the soaring “Separate Lives,” which hollows out drum’n’bass’ propulsive patter to form an atmosphere that’s as gently disruptive as it is emotionally nourishing. Throughout the album’s loudest and most peaceful moments alike, Full Circle retains a pristine intimacy thanks to Goldsmith’s keen ear for behind-the-boards magic; his touch gives the album a hermetic feel that stays with you long after it ends.

Full Circle is a glorious, gorgeous contradiction of sorts: emotional pop that perfectly captures ageless emotional conundrums, featuring music that could only be made in the present day. It’s the sound of three individuals finding common ground, for themselves, and for anyone who’s ever believed that it’s impossible to move your body without listening to your own heart.

Brooklyn Basement Records artist, TRUETT, announced that his first major EP will be released September
23 and will be titled “Be Mine.” After touring across Europe and the U.S. for the first three months of the year with label co-founder, mentor and artist, Ron Pope, TRUETT has finalized the plan for the release of his four-song project, which features his lead single, “Be Mine.”

“I can’t put into words how much time and passion has gone into this EP; I’m so excited I get to finally share it
with the world,” says TRUETT, “I think this EP captures everything I have been working towards for a long
time; I’m blessed to have had the opportunity to work with all the people that it took to put it together!”
TRUETT continues. TRUETT’s next single, “Left In The Dark” is out and is available for purchase here.
