Each year, the Journeys Alternative Press Music Awards, Fueled by Monster Energy brings fans exciting collaborative performances from today’s most celebrated alternative music artists. Previous performances combining the talents of Slash and Joan Jett & The Blackhearts; Asking Alexandria and Korn vocalist Jonathan Davis; Falling In Reverse, Coolio and Tyler Carter of Issues; Halestorm and Slipknot/Stone Sour vocalist Corey Taylor and more have dazzled audiences worldwide. The 2016 APMAs will present even more of these incredible performances — the first of which will feature none other than legendary heavy metal vocalist Rob Halford of Judas Priest and pop metal phenomenons and Best International Band nominees BABYMETAL! Combining raw 1970’s-era classic heavy metal influences with fresh modern visuals and Japanese pop styles, this performance will be a can’t-miss moment amidst the evening’s festivities.

In an official Alternative Press video announcement, BABYMETAL’s SU-METAL states, “I am still at a loss of what to feel, but to be able to perform together with the metal god, I am in disbelief… I know it will be an amazing experience for us and I am really looking forward to it.”

BABYMETAL, the breakout all-girl-fronted Japanese heavy metal/teen-pop hybrid group featuring 18-year-old SU-METAL and 16-year-olds YUIMETAL and MOAMETAL, backed by a four-piece band, released their sophomore album Metal Resistance this past April (debuting atop Billboard’s “World Albums” chart and iTunes’ “Top Heavy Metal Albums” chart) and took the world by storm when they made their U.S. late-night TV debut onThe Late Show with Stephen Colbert (April 5).

Rob Halford of Judas Priest defines the ideals, imagery and musicality of heavy metal. He has become an icon of the industry and Judas Priest have reigned as one of the most influential and popular metal bands of all time since their formation in 1969. From one decade to the next, Halford has led the way with an aggressive, yet melodic vocal delivery and a ferocious scream that could crack the ceiling of the Sistine chapel. After their groundbreaking 1990 album, Painkiller, Priest and Halford parted company for a few years, but in 2004, Halford resumed his role as frontman with Judas Priest and they have continued to record head-banging, jaw-dropping metal and perform sold-out concerts for arena and stadium audiences across the world.

Halford adds, “It’s really cool to hear and watch such a strong young Japanese metal band make solid growth in the world with such unique conviction and invite me to head bang along with them for this special appearance. Further proof of the continuing power exchange from the roots of metal into the future metalsphere!”

Creedence Clearwater Revival

Quiero Creedance features covers of CCR’s greatest songs by Los Lobos, Juan Gabriel, Andrés Calamaro, Bunbury, Enjambre, Los Enanitos Verdes, Juanes, Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli, La Marisoul from La Santa Cecilia, El Tri and more.

Creedence Clearwater Revival was one of the most successful bands of the late 1960s and early ‘70s, enjoying widespread acclaim throughout the US and UK. But, as Quiero Creedence now underscores, the band was big throughout all of Latin America, both then and now. Released on Concord Picante on July 29th, the Latin-inspired, multilingual tribute album to CCR includes covers of the band’s greatest songs by some of the biggest Latin artists from around the world including Juan Gabriel, Bunbury, Andrés Calamaro, Enjambre, Los Enanitos Verdes, Juanes, Los Lonely Boys, Ozomatli, La Marisoul from La Santa Cecilia, El Tri, Diamante Eléctrico, Los Lobos, as well as ZZ Top’s Billy Gibbons. As these names indicate, the set (the title of which translates as “I Want Creedence”) spans a variety of genres and decades.

The first single from Quiero Creedence will be Mexican superstar Juan Gabriel’s Spanish version of “Have You Ever Seen the Rain?” “Juan is so excited for it to be a single,” says Gustavo Farias, who produced the track. “He immediately started tweeting to let his fans know about the summer release—and that it’s not his song! Everyone’s freaking out because over 40 years, it’s the first song that he’s ever recorded that he didn’t write. So he’s really breaking ground.”

Himself an avowed CCR fan who listened mostly to them, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin growing up in Mexico, Farias nervously tracked Gabriel’s vocals on a laptop in a hotel room in the Mexican border state of Sonora—home to heavy drug smuggling. They returned there a couple weeks later when Gabriel was shooting a video, then tacked on a video shoot—in the middle of a jungle and with a total image change—to accompany the “Have You Ever Seen the Rain? (Gracias al Sol)” single.

“It’s my favorite CCR song, and I didn’t mess with it—just added a couple small mariachi guitars, vihuelas, to give it a little funky feeling,” adds Farias. “There are a couple nice violin lines, too, so there’s a little of Juan Gabriel’s personality and the essence of Creedence.” John Burk, who also helped produce Andrés Calamaro’s “Long as I Can See the Light,” became involved after Rodríguez approached him at a Recording Academy function in Los Angeles. CCR’s classic Fantasy Records catalog is released through Concord. “Being a fan of Latin music, I loved the idea of working with Latin artists to celebrate the far reaching influence of one of the greatest rock bands of the era, as well as the timeless songs of John Fogerty, so we decided to get involved,” notes Burk, who has produced Latin music artists including Tito Puente, Poncho Sanchez and Mongo Santamaría.

Caipo adds, “It’s not just for Latinos and Spanish speakers, since a lot of it is in English. But it’s such good music and it carries weight and has lasted for a long time. Walk into a bar in Mexico in the middle of nowhere, or Brazil or anywhere in the world, and you hear Creedence songs. I lived in Peru and Creedence was everywhere, always.”
As Rodríguez notes, Creedence Clearwater Revival’s songs are “timeless classics for all of us.” Quiero Creedence, she adds, is “an acknowledgement of all that work that touched a lot of people’s lives.” She concludes, “I remember that day backstage with Juan Manuel in San Francisco and saying, ‘Hell, yeah! Let’s do this!’ and now it’s a reality that has surpassed all our expectations.”

Pacific Heights

Pacific Heights releases stunning visuals for soulful, meditative new single ‘Breath and Bone’, alongside debut album The Stillness

‘Breath and Bone’ floats between synth waves, with Pacific Heights remarkable grasp on pulsating, ambient soundscapes and Deanne Krieg’s graceful voice giving the song a mysterious, melancholic atmosphere. The rich textures created by vocals samples, plucked guitar and electronic elements offer a sophisticated colour to the production, taking the listening on a poetic, melodious journey.

The song uses these physical terms as a metaphorical expression around the idea of a transforming moment shared by two humans. Breath – representing one brief but essential moment and Bone – representing an everlasting linger of that brief moment. The video was a vessel to explore the nature of this moment through interpretive dancing. The dancer is a figure that translates this moment within a space that is unseen by any other spectator or species, once again highlighting the loneliness of the journey post this encounter. The video was shot in two contrasting geographic locations in the South Island of New Zealand.

The song is yet another rich and cinematic production, with ghostly vocals and an intensity that recalls the brooding synth pop of Poliça and Daughter, but with Pacific Heights’ signature sonic atmosphere surrounding the entire composition.

“Though the track and video are essentially about loneliness, there’s something comforting in the abstract surreality of it. Seriously, if the week’s been treating you poorly so far, shut the world out and pop this on” –

The Wax Road

The ‘Do Things Right’ Film is a collaboration between The Wax Road and VOLT Cinematography. Written, directed and edited by Vlad Bolgarin and produced by Lucia Lupu. A military subject is approached in the context of inner struggle, with the own fears and obstacles in the way of self-discovery, and heroes from the battlefield turn their musical instruments into weapons.

Even if it is their first video production, The Wax Road never choose the easiest way, and this video is not an exception. With the support of the Ministry of Defence and the special police brigade “Lightning” who have contributed to this ambitious project, the whole team has invested much effort and passion in a qualitative product.

We have to mention that both “Do things right” and “Let me feel” singles are already available on the major online stores such as iTunes, Google Play, Amazon and streaming services like Spotify, Deezer or Tidal. You can find more information about video production and making-of pictures on their freshly launched website HERE.

About Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping Universal Pictures’ Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping is headlined by musical digital-shorts superstars Andy Samberg, Akiva Schaffer and Jorma Taccone, collectively known as The Lonely Island. The comedy goes behind the scenes as singer/rapper Conner4Real (Samberg) faces a crisis of popularity after his sophomore album flops, leaving his fans, sycophants and rivals all wondering what to do when he’s no longer the dopest star of all.

The latest comedy from blockbuster producer Judd Apatow (Trainwreck, Superbad, Knocked Up) co-stars Sarah Silverman, Tim Meadows and Maya Rudolph and many of the biggest names in comedy and music in cameo performances. Co-directed by Schaffer and Taccone and written by The Lonely Island trio, Popstar is also produced by Rodney Rothman (producer of Get Him to the Greek, Forgetting Sarah Marshall; co-writer of 22 Jump Street), as well as Samberg, Schaffer and Taccone.

Waza featuring Aquila Young

Sydney’s most ambitious beat maker Waza has just premiered single ‘Rocks and Bones’ over at The Au Review, foreshadowing a spectacular upcoming LP release.

2015 saw Waza’s ‘The Art and Techniques Sessions’ come to light, an experimental story told through music in three parts. Such an aspirational project naturally attracted an impressive musical rap sheet, drawing love from all across the nation’s airwaves, with adds and appearances on triple j’s Breakfast Show and The Hip Hop Show, FBi, 2SER, 3RRR and Unearthed.

Shedding his hip-hop roots, “Rocks and Bones” sees Waza getting back to something a little more straight up sonic. Emphasizing synth and melody the song is a treasure trove of lush production, polyrhythmic melodies and a massive beat that feels like it’s swinging from a pendulum. The cherry on top comes in the lavish vocals of a dreamy new talent: Aquila Young. “Rocks and Bones” is just a taste of Waza’s upcoming LP Crooked Jaw slated for release in 2016.

Naali is a fresh Nordic singer-songwriter. Inspired by artists like Mirel Wagner or the American singer-songwriter tradition this female artist has boldly created an original, ethereal soundscape filled with stories. Naali was the first singer-songwriter to get into the Rock Academy Finland project. Melodic songs created with an experimental indie spirit combined with Naali’s beautiful voice are a stopping experience. Naali’s first single “Wildfire” is released on June the 3rd.

Experimental, dynamic and unabashed: the signature ECLECTA sound. Andrina Bollinger’s and Marena Whitcher’s voices, sometimes pure, sometimes raw, trade and blend with each other in kaleidoscopic display of timbres and emotions. With their barrage of all kinds of acoustic and electric instruments and choreographed demonstrations of youthful impiety, the two contrasting personalities consciously defy all genres. For them, jazz, pop, and rock
are like slides, swings, and see-saws. Dreamy but also impetuous, their command and authenticity gives them license to be both tender and reckless. To indulge and revel with them is like a visit to an amusement park that refreshes the soul with mirror mazes, shooting galleries and ferris wheels. All of these ear-blowing moments are available on their debut album A SYMMETRY (2016). To tease us into buying the album, these singer/magicians have also released a mini documentary full of colorful symmetric and a-symmetric invention.

Madeline Juno

20-year-old Berlin based songstress Madeline Juno releases heartbreaking visuals for “You Know What”, the second single off her sophomore album Salvation. The self-directed video chronicles a love story between Maddy and a fellow patient in hospital. The narrative rolls out with idyllic scenes of two young people falling in love, until it all ends in the most final way possible.

Co-starring in the video is Maddy’s real-life boyfriend, fellow German singer-songwriter Chris Brenner, who you may recognize from the YouTube cover of Jon Bellion’s “All Time Low” which they released in April.

Jazz influenced, soul songstress Wallace is back with a new single: Kraak & Smaak produced “Is It You?”, and her first offering for 2016. Starting off with a simple meandering piano intro and Wallace’s spine-tingling vocal, the track is possessing of crunchy, textured beats and ambient synths courtesy of Dutch producers Kraak & Smaak – the perfect, chilled out tune for the European summer. “Is It You?” is the latest single to be released ahead of Wallace’s upcoming debut EP, due out later this year.

“I’ve always been a fan of words that are onomatopaeic and a couple of months back when a friend used the word ‘vapid’, it just stuck with me. An image and story started to form in my mind of a girl who is insecure and builds a cookie cutter facade that hides whatever beauty and individuality is underneath”, says Wallace about the motivation for the track.

Paris Radio

Greatly influenced by big guitars and big synths of the 80’s and 90’s, Paris Radio also brings an electronic element to his music. Tony Aguiar a.k.a. Paris Radio, formally of the Los Angeles band Voxhaul Broadcast, spends his time living, writing and playing music in Highland Park / Los Angeles. “Tangled Shadow” was written and recorded at Tony’s little home studio and mixed by James Reynolds (Calvin Harris, Kodaline, Tiesto).

“I really got to indulge in the straight up rock n’ roll style of playing which I loved for a long time,” says Tony. “As the years passed, and after Voxhaul Broadcast broke up I was really starting to find myself musically. I began to love listening to music with heavy synth sounds and electronic elements. When I began writing the songs for Paris Radio I really wanted to incorporate my love for all of those musical elements.” “Tangled Shadow was I song I wrote after spending an amazing night with a special lady…all the nerves, all the anticipation but loving every second of it. It’s about that falling feeling. I knew I was falling way too hard for her and that I somehow had to keep this one. She’s my wife now!”

Paris Radio will be co-headlining a show at The Satellite in LA on June 14th with Adult Bodies. Also on the bill will be Some Go Haunting and Jesse Carmichael of Wildcat! Wildcat! will be spinning tunes between sets.

Dumb Hole

Dumb Hole is Leonardo Guzman and Magnus Almqvist, at first glance, an odd couple with very different backgrounds, but at a closer look the perfect combination, a dynamic duo that challenges and supplements one another. For 16 months , the band has worked tirelessly in the studio putting together their debut album due for release in September 2016. The first glimpse of it will be given, however, in May with release of the single “Killing For Love”.
The song is about us, we the human race, about our tendency to constantly tear down rather than build up, to point the finger at differences rather than to embrace similarities, how more and more we let ourselves be guided by ignorance, fear and anger instead of educating ourselves, overcoming our fears, daring to love and finding the strength to change.

It touches all of that darkness we human beings choose to leave behind as footprints: wars, over-consumption, environmental destruction, the meat industry, etc. The single will also be released with a lyric video containing vivid and strong imagery from the creative commons library just to show how bad off things are! The songs from
the upcoming album have a raw and brutal energy, choruses that stick in your head and arrangements don’t let the listener go for one second, the single, “Killing For Love”, is no exception. With melodies that take you on a journey of magnificent expanses, cast you down from high mountains and carry you through stormy seas, the band is aiming to create rock history with epic works. The band has also collaborated with Per Aldeheim (Def Leppard, Nick Carter, Lambretta and others) , who through post-production and an impressive mixing job has given the music the modern touch that the band has strived for, thus paving the way to gaining a foothold with large audiences.
