Subliminal Fear

Subliminal Fear‘s new album title is “Escape From Leviathan“. After 2 years and a half working in studio, the third album is finally ready, with 10 tracks and they show several innovations about past musical style with a greater attention to melodies and with a modern sound. The early sound has evolved in a “cyber metal” with extreme and melodic vocals, djent guitars, a huge groove and with electronic and industrial synth. Now, the band’s line-up is composed by 2 vocalists, to express better all potential of the new sound, also in live shows.

The new music style of this Italian band mixes death metal, electronic music and catchy melodies, and it’s for lovers of Sybreed, Mnemic and Fear Factory. The third full length is been produced, mixed and mastered by Giuseppe Dentamaro and Subliminal Fear in Golem Dungeon Studios. All keyboards, samples and programming are been arranged by Botys Beezart (Godyva).

Album’s artwork has been realized by Seth Siro Anton (Moonspell, Paradise Lost, Soilwork, Sybreed, Nile, Septicflesh), based on the lyrics concept: a futuristic and apocalyptic vision of the world and the society, inspired by movies like Terminator, Alien and Matrix. Furthermore the album will include also the participation of international guests: Guillaume Bideau (Mnemic, One-Way Mirror), Jon Howard (Threat Signal, Arkaea) and Lawrence Mackrory (Darkane).

The album is released both physically and digitally by a Finnish label Inverse Records on May 13th 2016.

Kids on Bridges

Kids on Bridges’ new single ‘Something in the Water’ is currently receiving airplay across the UK, Europe, America, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. The band’s promotional trail has seen them take in the 58th Annual Grammy Awards in Los Angeles and they are due to play shows in LA and New Orleans before returning home for UK dates.

Liverpool’s Kids on Bridges are Christian Bragg, Daniel Rankin and Andrew Culshaw, a trio of Pop Art terrorists who produce electro likened to the music of Phoenix and MuteMath. The band, who recently supported Beck and New Orleans’ brass favourites Hot 8, were the United Kingdom’s only representatives to play alongside Stevie Wonder at the Special Olympics in LA.

‘Something in the Water’ follows the success of Kids on Bridges’ last single ‘When The Needle Drops Featuring Shea Seager’ which charted at number one on Hype Machine. Their remix EP reached number 10 in the UK Dance charts.

Following support slots with the likes of LCD Soundsystem /Soulwax and Friendly Fires, as well as working with New Orleans legend Zigaboo Modeilste of the Meters and Jennie Vee, Kids on Bridges played a string of shows in America where they sold out iconic LA venue The Viper Room and Tipitinas in New Orleans. The band also beat Nile Rodgers and Grammy Winner Ledisi to the honour of remixing a track for INXS’ ‘Kick 25’ album.

HAKEN recently announced the release of their fourth full-length studio album ‘Affinity’, on April 29th, 2016. Now they are pleased to reveal the video for the first single taken from the album, titled ‘Initiate’. The band had this to say about the video: “Initiate was the first tune from the album that got mixed by Jens. We all remember feeling incredibly excited from the very first listen. Affinity was finally coming to life! Initiate combines the atmospheric and the modern aspects of our sound and, as the album opener, sets the scene for what’s to come.”

You can now digitally pre-order the album here:

Preorder the album on iTunes or Amazon and receive this track immediately:

Recorded during the winter months of 2015, ‘Affinity’ marks a new approach to the song-writing process for Haken, as vocalist Ross Jennings explains; “It is the most collaborative we have ever been on an album. We wanted to develop and expand our sound by having every member contribute initial ideas from the very beginning of the process. It naturally takes longer to filter through the mass of material and fit it all together coherently, but this approach has helped to create something completely fresh whilst maintaining the core elements of Haken’s sound.”

Locos Por Juana

The highly anticipated second single by Locos por Juana, “The Cure” featuring reggae star, Collie Buddz, lands today on iTunes and all digital platforms. After four months of jammed-packed performances, a strong promotional tour run, sold-out music festivals, and the release of their debut single “Mueve, Mueve” with over 400 thousand VEVO views, “The Cure” produced by Locos por Juana and featuring Collie Buddz consecrates the bilingual ensemble as an established band on the world-music scene.

The band’s signature hybrid sound, a blend of Caribbean, Latin and American rhythms, takes a step into an exploratory and colorful vibration to which American/ Bermudan Collie Buddz is a strong contributor. Their collaborative work on “The Cure” combines a diversification of flavors incorporating Reggae and the band’s own hometown swagger to the song, recorded between Miami, FL and Buddz’ native Bermuda.

In anticipation of their exclusive world premiere of the music video for “The Cure” on March 31 Locos por Juana’s lyric video for “The Cure” will be featured on VEVO’s homepage starting today and will receive 13 million annotations starting March 23. On its release date the record is also featured in the Hot Tracks on the iTunes main page.

Methyl Ethel

Hailing from the remote fringes of Perth, Western Australia, linchpin Jake Webb started Methyl Ethel in 2013 as a way of getting his bedroom recordings out in the public domain. The assonant moniker takes its name from the chemical compound Webb’s father uses to make fibre-glass – methyl ethyl ketone peroxide. It was under this pseudonym multi-instrumentalist Webb released the early EP diptych Guts and Teeth.

With Oh Inhuman Spectacle given an Australian release by local label Dot Dash Recordings, Methyl Ethel’s impact on home soil has been palpable. The trio has grown into a must-see live act and shortlisted for the Australian Music Prize alongside Courtney Barnett and fellow Perth act Tame Impala and were also included in Triple J’s annual Hot 100. Now, having joined 4AD, Methyl Ethel have the opportunity to take their music to a greater audience.

Methyl Ethel made their first US appearance at the CMJ music conference, where their electric live shows impressed tastemakers in the northern hemisphere, and the trio will now return next month beginning March 10th at Baby’s Alright in Brooklyn. Jessy Lanza

Jessy Lanza’s second album Oh No is addressed to her own constant nervousness. The pressure of music making, which used to calm her nerves, has led to a whole new world of contingencies that stoke the anxiety mill. The exclamation Oh No, for Jessy, marks yet another incident of randomness interrupting her tranquility. All of which seems at odds with the confidence and spontaneity of this second album as well as recent collaborations with the likes of Caribou, DJ Spinn and Morgan Geist and his Galleria project.

Check out the new video for “It Means I Love You” HERE!

Made in her hometown of Hamilton, Ontario, with production partner Jeremy Greenspan from Junior Boys, the plaintive, reverb drizzled mood of the first album has all but given away to a more direct, self-assured and joyful album. As with many artists whose hometown lie off the usual network of cultural hotspots, Oh No is driven positively by the idea of making music that isn’t inspired by where she lives. Instead, the album resonates more with the philosophy of experimental pop of Japanese 80s electro outfit Yellow Magic Orchestra and Jessy’s breathless, pitched vocals are reminiscent of YMO collaborator Miharu Koshi. Playfully laced with cascading arpeggios, crispy drum machines and breezy songs, Oh No has an infectious energy that has been brewing in her live shows since her first album. As Jessy says “I want to make people feel good and I want to make myself feel good.”

The album oscillates between the languid, coiled, arpeggiated slow jams of “New Ogi,” “Going Somewhere,” “Begins,” “Could be u,” “I Talk BB” and the low slung 808 groove of “Vivaca,” where Jessy’s vocal gymnastics run wild over minimal drums and synths, and the catchy upbeat boogie of “VV Violence,” “Never Enough,” “Oh No” and the high point of “It Means I Love You” which has a sparse addictive bounce, with a pitched up vocal refrain and a nod to Shangaan electro.

The trials of dealing with nervousness are also encrypted into the artwork, such as the plants that recur in the sleeve and videos. As Jessy remarked, “I became obsessed with surrounding myself with tropical plants. I’ve been convinced that the air quality in our house is slowly killing us. It might sound crazy but the plants have made a huge difference.”

Anxiety and botanical remedies or not, Oh No is a bold second album from Jessy and a marked step forward for her sound.

No Tide

The Lincoln, Nebraska indie/punk band No Tide isn’t shy about telling you what their music means to them and that they are extremely appreciative for anyone who will listen. “Death Of The Sun is about being grateful”, says Conner. “Getting to do the things you’re passionate about in life doesn’t always come easy.”

Their debut full length and third release with label Take This To Heart Records, Death Of The Sun is an 11-song joyride through the world of alternative/punk. With their stellar opening track Empty Handed setting the pace and overall tone of the record with upbeat and intricate drumming mixed with churning guitars and melodies that are crisp and to the point.

Songs like Sunday Morning and Night Cap showcase the bands lyrical content and story telling ability with lines like “Follow the tracks, that lead the way through the dirt, and pray the rain don’t wash away the path that keeps us hoping and knowing, we’re going somewhere more sincere”.

For the production of the record No Tide enlisted the services of producer Jay Maas (Defeater, Polar Bear Club, Transit) and headed to Getaway Studios in Boston, MA to record Death Of The Sun over the course of two weeks where they fined tuned their songs with Maas.

Death Of The Sun is out now on 12”/CD/Digital via Take This To Heart Records and brings to mind Through Being Cool era Saves The Day playing Menzingers songs with a healthy diet of The Movie Life mixed in for good measure.

Produced, Mixed and Mastered by Jay Maas (Defeater, Transit, Polar Bear Club)
