Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Monday, we will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across our virtual desk.

Los Rakas

Oakland by way of Panama duo Los Rakas, who were included in Billboard’s up-and coming reggaetón artists to watch list, released their 22-minute mix, Ricardo: The Raka Party Mix, to celebrate the one-year anniversary of their debut album, El Negrito Dun Dun y Ricardo. The mix presents an up-beat sound that can be put on repeat for an easy ride down the California coastline. Los Rakas adds a feel-good flavor to their remixes of a variety of hits like Everything But the Girl’s “Missing” and Michael Jackson’s “Remember the Time,” even adding UK house duo Gorgon City’s “Ready For Your Love” featuring MNEK to the mix.

Known for their fresh mix of hip-hop, plena, reggae, and dancehall music with both Spanish and English lyricism, the duo, who can be caught live at this year’s Coachella music festival, has set out to inspire fellow “Rakas” by empowering them to become successful despite their circumstances, turning the current Latin hip-hop world on its head. “‘Raka’ comes from the word ‘Rakataka’. They used that word to refer to people from the hood in Panama, but in a negative way,” Raka Dun explains. “We took the word and decided to make it positive…A ‘Raka’ can go to college and be a business man, you know.”

Mirror Talk

Los Angeles based quartet Mirror Talk combines new wave with R&B influences in their brand new song “1/M/T,” a track that will have you seriously dancing in your chair with its groovy rhythms and silky smooth vocals. “1/M/T” is a song that’s as perfect for late night summer drives as would be on the dancefloor at your favorite nightclub.

Be sure to catch Mirror Talk at the legendary Los Angeles venue the Troubadour this Friday, April 3rd with Kitten. “1/M/T” will appear on the band’s upcoming EP “1997,” out on May 19th via Yellow Year Records.

Swedish death metal overlords, ENTRAILS, will unleash the putrid fruits of their newest studio offering this May fittingly dubbed, Obliteration, the follow-up to 2013′s Raging Death full-length was tracked by guitarist Jimmy Lundqvist at his own “Bloodshed Studios” and mixed and mastered by legendary musician/soundsmith Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity, Bloodbath, Aeon, Hail Of Bullets etc.) at Unisound. Featuring ten mangled tracks of sonic malevolence, Obliteration carries on the torch of true, old school Swedish brutality.

Comments Lundqvist: “Finally, we can unleash this beast named Obliteration to the fans out there, this time with a more driven and raw style that shall taste good to everyone’s ears if you’re into the older simplified death metal that we prefer to play. Recorded in our own Bloodshed Studios and mixed by the mighty Dan Swanö nothing else but slabby Swedeath can be served.”

After taking a bold and more slightly ‘out there’ approach with his debut single “Switzerland”. Dayne pulls back musically, pushes further lyrically and leaps visually with “Love Gun”.

‘Musically this is a bit more grown up for my taste, lyrically I wanted to try and tell a story regarding unfortunately, love. The story is both true and false.” – Dayneo. The video is a homage to the hit television show “Pretty Little Liars”. ‘I’m obsessed with Pretty Little Liars regardless of it being made for teenage girls. The video is full of references to the show and the clip for “Love Gun” is basically me pretending I’m in my own Pretty Little Liars episode. I wanted the video to have two different pieces of art. The fans of Pretty Little Liars will get the references to begin with and not listen to the song while fans will hear the track then want to understand the video (I hope)’ – Dayneo

Inspired by the sounds of The Beastie Boys and Peaches, the honesty of Lily Allen, and everything about Ke$ha. “Love Gun” is for fans with a taste of electronic-hip hop artists such as Peaches. Taken from his album “Gold For Days”, featuring the single “Switzerland”. “Love Gun” was written and produced by Dayneo with additional production by Tom Garnett at REC Studios. Electronic/Alternative music maker Dayneo has been making music for almost 8 years. Sounding like Lily Allen, Peaches, The Beastie Boys and everything about Kesha, Dayneo is ready to release his music across Australia!
