Making their epic Buygore debut as original member John O’Brien returns alongside Daniel Linton, LA Riots are back and better than ever. Resurrecting Drum & Bass from it’s slumber, LA Riots unites swift, energetic drums alongside UK vocal sensation Ayah Marar’s passion filled hooks – “Stay With Me” is now available for purchase via Beatport, iTunes, & Spotify.

A.R. Kane

The recently reformed pioneering dream pop outfit A.R. Kane will be playing Primavera Sound Festival in Barcelona and have also been added to the line-up for NOS Primavera Sound in Porto, Portugal. The legendary former 4AD artist will also have multiple shows this summer, including the Siren Festival in Vasto, Italy and the Kumu OO Festival in Tallinn, Estonia. Appearances have also been confirmed for The Good Ship in London and On Blackheath Festival. A.R.Kane perform twice during Primavera Festival – on Thursday, June 2 at Parc Del Forum and Saturday, June 4 at Primavera Al Raval

Coining the term ‘dream pop’ for the music they make back in the 1980’s, the group went on to influence everyone from My Bloody Valentine and Slowdive to Andrew Weatherall – whose long-running night A Love From Outer Space derives its name from their seminal 1989 track, and also were an important progenitor of such genres as shoegaze, trip hop, acid house and post-rock.

The band will also be recording new material this year. In the meantime, the band is collaborating with Canadian-Ukrainian dreampop duo Ummagma on several new tracks for release in 2016. Most recently, A.R. Kane worked witih The Veldt to produce ‘And It’s You’ on their new EP ‘The Shocking Fuzz of Your Electric Fur’.

East London duo Rudy Tambala and Alex Ayuli originally formed A.R. Kane in 1986, disrupting the UK music scene by combining groove-based music with indie rock. Refusing to being categorized, they coined the descriptor “Dreampop”, with the term being widely adopted by music critics thereafter. Widely recognized as one of the most influential bands of their era, they laid ground for many musical genres that came to dominate the alternative music scene. AllMusic describes A.R. Kane as “the most criminally under-recognized band of their era”. The Guardian calls their work “some of the 80’s most extraordinary music”.

After releasing their debut EP on the One Little Indian label, they moved to 4AD in 1987 and issued the Lollita 12″, produced by Robin Guthrie of Cocteau Twins. Alex and Rudy later released through Rough Trade and David Byrne’s own label Luaka Bop. During their brief stint on 4AD, A.R. Kane collaborated with label-mates Colourbox to produce the sample-heavy dance track ‘Pump Up The Volume’ under the name M|A|R|R|S. They blew the top off the UK charts, reaching number one – the biggest single to ever have appeared in 4AD’s history to this day.

Recording highlights include A Love from Outer Space, the two albums 69 and“i”, and M|A|R|R|S Pump Up The Volume/ANITINA. In 2013, One Little Indian also released a double CD ‘Singles Collection’ to great critical acclaim.

Canadian electro-pop trio Dragonette returns with the airy, joyous new single “Lonely Heart.” Flipping the assumed blues of the title on its head with its swift, inexorable punch-drunk summer hook – the track pairs a reggae-tinged synth line with shout-out-loud backups and a lazy, toe-tapping beat, blasting straight into its sticky sweet centre, as Martina Sorbara repeats on the irresistible hook, “I’ve got a lonely heart, got a lonely heart.” Despite the brief downcast bridge, where Sorbara sings “late night cab rides, with a lonely heart, chest pressed upright, against a lonely heart / I got to fill it up, fill my lonely heart,” it’s clear they understand the power in taking the carefree high road during bouts of sadness.

Together since 2005, the JUNO award winning band has been at the forefront of modern dance music. Collaborating with some of the most influential acts around, like Basement Jaxx, DJ Martin Solveig, Kaskade and more – they have carved out a special niche within the Canadian landscape.

Dragonette Tour Dates:
June 18 — Ottawa, ON, Canada @ Glowfair Festival
June 25 — Winnipeg, MB, Canada @ Aboriginal Day Live
July 29 — Montreal, QC, Canada @ OSHEAGA Festival
August 20 — Wasaga Beach, ON, Canada @ Center of Gravity Festival

Colour Bomb

Colour Bomb2

You’re about to listen to five years of blood, sweat, and tears (mostly sweat) by Australian indie duo, Colour Bomb. This is our debut album, and it’s available to be streamed in glorious mp3 quality from our SoundCloud, one week ahead of its June 4 release. It’s a body of work that varies in style, and explores themes as diverse as the celebration of vapid youth culture (Dying To Leave), to the heartache of watching someone you love slip away into senility (Mostly Asleep). It covers the classic themes as well, like love (On The Run), sex (Moth), and being scorned by a lover (Paper Doll). There’s even a song about BDSM (Learn The Ropes). Speaking of which, today we’ve released a film clip for Learn The Ropes which you can watch below.

So who are they? They’re Jimmy Saunders. A singer, songwriter, and sound engineer. They’re also Tom Whitty. A guitarist, songwriter, and producer. They’ve been friends and making music together since we met in high school in 1999! Five years ago, they decided to write this album. They wrote and recorded it in our bedrooms. We mixed it with our friend Lachlan Carrick who has mixed many great and famous artists who we won’t bother naming, but you should check out Lachlan’s work if you dig how this album sounds.

This album is available for preorder now on stunning vinyl through our Bandcamp, and in digital formats in the usual online music stores. We’re launching it on Saturday the 4th at The Toff in Melbourne, Australia. Limited tickets are now available through Moshtix.

The Obsessed

Relapse Records is extremely proud to announce the signing of legendary hard rock / doom metal band THE OBSESSED! Formed in 1976 by Scott “Wino” Weinrich (Saint Vitus, Spirit Caravan, Shrinebuilder, Probot etc.), the band recently reformed and are on the road now! The band will enter the studio this summer to record the follow up to 1994’s seminal classic, The Church Within.

Scott “Wino” Weinrich commented on the signing and reformation of the band:

“The time is now for rebirth of THE OBSESSED. Fueled with the anger, wisdom and energy of all things past, this monumental achievement is the culmination of many years of dogged determination and the belief in the music. This music that we and many others find healing and inspirational. At last it sees the light, uncompromising and laden with passion and intensity that we’ll immortalize on our new album. We’re happy to officially announce our signing with Relapse Records. They also believe in the music and are very understanding of our integrity, vision and aspirations. On tour right now in the USA, we are celebrating this experience with glorious sound. Join us on this golden road. Thanks to all who believe!”

Alesia Dixon featuring Wretch 32

Alesha Dixon flashes back to her roots on her latest video for ‘Stop’ featuring the wordsmith, and one of the UK’s finest rappers Wretch 32.Producer SRNO is on the buttons for the first remix to be heard of Alesha’s new single, which was given it’s radio premiere last week by Ras Kwame on Capital Xtra. SRNO is the man behind tracks with some of the UK’s hottest artists such as K Koke,TE DNESS and many more.

Bringing a stand-out, effortless, R&B edge, Alesha mixes up the track as she drops her much loved quicktime flow that stood her apart from any other female in the UK scene in the noughties. One of the original queens of UK R&B, Alesha has become one of the countries sweethearts and gained huge success in the pop world, however this track brings her home.Starting off as one thirds of UK Garage group Mis-Teeq, Alesha was the rude girl rapper that no-one at the time could beat. She smoothly transformed into a judge to become Saturday teatime TV royalty to two of the Nation’s favourite programs; Strictly Come Dancing and Britains Got Talent, as well as beginning a solo career. She has become a style icon as well as an artist and a presenter that Britain cannot get enough of.

A singer of nine Top 10 singers and three platinum albums, she has received Brit Awards and MOBO Awards nominations. Her new, fourth studio album ‘Do It For Love,’ where this single is taken from, is being released on Alesha’s own independent label ‘Precious Stone Records.’ It’s an infectious, Summer R&B jam produced by DaBeatfreakz. Alesha opens the track stating her power, “You ready? I’m supersonic, bionic” which is partnered with a hot 16 from Wretch 32 who adds to the flavoursome track, bringing his powerful and confident lyrics.

Alesha continues to slay, this time on her own where she makes all of the rules.

Mary Handsome

Riff-lord pop-rockers coming out of their shell and walking into some well-deserved limelight, Brissy lads Mary Handsome present ‘No Hot No More’. A formative 2015 saw the band release their debut EP, a bedroom record that harnessed their attitude and gave a taste of what was to come, picking up praise from the blogosphere as well as radio heavyweights triple j and achieving Unearthed rotation. Their first offering provided a stepping stone for their live show to grow, having just been announced to play The Yirrkala Yarrapay (Morning Star) Music and Dance Festival alongside The Medics and East Journey.

A song about embracing change, Mary Handsome follow the mantra of expressing themselves lyrically while indulging in the infectious hooky nature of their music, a skill they’ve grown a knack for. The rolling lead lines and punchy instrumentation cement ‘No Hot No More’ as a natural progression for the band, signaling a new chapter in their career as they take a big step forward.

Harnessing her widespread musical ability to embrace a new and refined sonic direction, Queensland alt-pop revelation Fieu (Emily Brewis) brings absolute fire in new single ‘Impossible’, which just premiered over at The Music.

Since releasing a debut EP in 2014, she has topped Triple J Unearthed charts, gained national radio play, and been recognised for her writing with “Honourable Mentions” in the International Songwriting Competition and QMusic Awards. With a growing CV of support credentials for artists including Woodlock, Montaigne and Ayla, Fieu is a fresh face that is swiftly becoming a familiar one.

‘Impossible’ may as well refer to Emily’s vocal prowess, which while being absolutely stunning, is perfectly showcased in this single. This was achieved with the help of Aria award winning producer Joel Quatermain (Meg Mac, Eskimo Joe, Little Birdy) who has strengthened her ability to layer detailed instrumentation under soaring vocals. Being the first of many releases prepared for 2016, ‘Impossible’ is the perfect intro to the new Fieu.

Impossible single launch at Brisbane’s The Zoo, June 2nd.

Honey and The Herbs

Glaswegian omni-pop quartet, Honey & the Herbs, have announced the June 3rd release of their debut LP, Gloaming, on their own Employment Records label.

Gloaming will be released as a limited run of 250 12” vinyl that includes a ten page booklet with scored musical motifs, lyrics and free download code. The album is preceded by two singles, Destiny and Croona Lumbago, available for free on the band’s website.

It is not often one feels like they are listening to something original yet Gloaming has potential to pave a new path across musical landscapes. With the hi-fi sound of an expensive studio recording, the album was in fact recorded and mixed in the band’s Glasgow flats. “Recording the album ourselves meant we were able to create something we are really happy with without the pressure of time and money,” says Andrew, who co-engineered with Gavin. “We had time to pick up on all the nuances of each song and give each track its own unique voice.”
Bassist Rory agrees, “I guess that’s what is really special about ‘handmade’ projects like this.”

Part of the Glasgow scene for the last decade, the four members of Honey & the Herbs share a wealth of experience, former collaborations include Duglas T Stewart, Euros Childs, Findo Gask, The Amazing Snakeheads, Laura J Martin, Optimo, Norman Blake, Meilyr Jones and Errors to name a few.Launch to take place at Old Hairdressers, Renfield Lane, Glasgow, on 3rd June at 8pm. As well as Honey & the Herbs the evening will consist of a mixed media presentation of various sound and visual artists including Babe, Sarah Kenchington, Trudat Sound and Light, animation from Andrew Pattie and sculpture by Altronix.

Tiger Love

Tiger Love are brothers Roii and Gigi. They’ve had previous success with their self-directed music video’s “Summer Rain” and “Pussy Cocaine” both reaching Top 5 on HypeMachine and buzzing on blogs . They have also performed as main support for the likes of Mark Ronson, Uffie, TV On The Radio, The Hurts, Boy George, and others, as well as performing on some major festivals in Europe and the US. In 2015m Tiger Love moved to a villa in Florence where they used old drum machines and 1960’s synths to record their Debut album.
