Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Monday, we will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across our virtual desk.

Let There Be GWAR is a comprehensive behind-the-scenes history of the most outrageous shock rock band of all time. GWAR fans will cherish this oversized hardcover book chock full of fascinating first-hand accounts and rare, never-before-seen photographs. The book follows the band from the mid-1980s, known in GWAR lore as the “Dim Time,” when the group came together at a derelict dairy building in Richmond, Virginia, through the 1990s and 2000s, when the band spread across the face of the planet like a plague. This book is a record and testament to all that is GWAR, the band whoredefined the meaning of performance in rock music with their outlandish costumes and intense theatrical performances. A GWAR show is more than a rock concert; it is an immersive experience, featuring hilarious storylines, absurd live gore effects, and hundreds of gallons of blood and other fluids sprayed on an eager audience. Let There Be GWAR takes you backstage at these performances, a tour of the GWAR kingdom in photos, band posters, ephemera, production sketches and interviews, that chronicle the band’s albums, comics and videos in a blood-stained hardbound tome. Bohabs the world over, will delight in the wretched world of GWAR through the pages of this, the most monstrous book since The Necronomicon.

The hardcover book is over 350 pages, with a lenticular cover, and features 30 years of GWAR and Slave-Pit Inc. the production company behind the band.Gorman began working with Slave Pit and GWAR in 1988. Today he serves as secretary, shop foreman, performer and visual artist for Slave-Pit. He began GWARchiving GWAR and Slave-Pit history in 1997, and this book is the result of that effort. Gastman, the self-proclaimed “curator of culture” was the brains behind infamous “While You Were Sleeping” and “Swindle” magazines, has packaged over 3 dozen books for small publishers, curated gallery shows MoCA, the Corcoran, and countless other and has produced or worked on several documentaries concerning Graffiti or subculture in general.

For you Ultimate Bohabs, there will be a limited number (150) books hand signed by the members of GWAR. These copies cost $100 and can be pre-ordered HERE. They are expected to ship late August/early September.

Fans went into an online frenzy last week when Kevin Parker dropped another new song  “Disciples” during a fan Q & A. “I’m waiting for someone to ask me if they can hear a new song…!” announced Kevin, and in minutes the 1.48 min track became one of the hottest topics on social media.

Currents was written, recorded, produced and mixed by Kevin Parker in Fremantle, West Australia. Lyrically the record finds Parker in a very different place in 2015 to where he was seven years ago. Transitions in life, relationships, perspectives, mindsets – Currents maps Parker’s evolution through these and finds him a brand new person.

Musically, Currents sounds like the work of a player on top of his game and having a blast, Parker indulging his whims and unafraid to dive down the rabbit hole after an idea. Again operating as a one man studio band, Parker’s resultant record calls to mind contemporary hip hop production, Thriller, fried 70s funk, the irreverent playground Daft Punk presented on Discovery, swathes of future pop and emotional 80s balladry, all filtered through a thoroughly modern psychedelic third eye. A genre-bending soundscape fueled equally by curiosity as it is consciousness; it’s an exhilarating new territory for Tame Impala.

Typically, initial Tame Impala recordings saw Parker’s vocal hidden beneath a layer of psychedelic fuzz, drenched in reverb, lyrics ambiguous. Currents find’s Kevin Parker’s voice front and centre, so no bones are made about his intent.

Holly Elle

Music City’s Holly Elle returns with a new captivating single, “Mirage,” that digs deep into a vulnerable space that is incredibly identifiable with feelings of frustration in a rocky relationship. Stepping in a slightly new musical direction, Holly Elle proves to be a force that is unpredictable in the best way possible. “Mirage” is now available for free download on SoundCloud.Holly Elle teamed up again with Isaac Hasson (Demi Lovato, Selena Gomez) after enjoying a successful collaboration on her previous singles, “Lifeline” and “Lose Control.” While her last release was an urban party anthem, “Mirage” moves with a cool and tranquil sound, pairing a crunchy, industrial synth beat with her sultry vocals. Each time the chorus repeats, the tension in her voice escalades and builds to a dramatic fade in echoes. The connecting theme in all Elle’s work is a flair for theatrics that sets her apart from other pop artists. “We focused on creating a distinct vibe, which I hope comes through in the music and vocals,” Elle commented. “This track should feel like stepping into a different world.” “Mirage” demonstrates Holly Elle’s powerful vocals and clever writing in a new light that shines beautifully in an overcast landscape of maudlin confusion.

Following the incredible success of the multi-award winning album ‘Raw X Infinity’, today REMI has revealed the first track and full track-listing of the forthcoming free Mixtape ‘Call It What You Want’ (F.Y.G. ACT:2). This first taste, a track titled ‘Weirdos (From Planet HOB)’, again consolidates the young Melbourne MC REMI and musical collaborator Sensible J’s growing reputation as a formidable forward-thinking creative duo with something important to say. “Weirdos (From Planet HOB) is basically about feeling like an outsider in whatever circumstance you’re in, I think a lot of people can relate to that”.
