Lion Babe and Nicholas L. Perez- November 17th

Lion Babe performs at the Red Bull Sound Select Presents 30 Days in LA, at The Roxy Theatre, in Los Angeles, CA, USA on 17 November, 2015.

NYC duo Lion Babe performed a set of neo-soul last night at the Roxy Theatre. Vocalist Jillian Hervey, accompanied by producer Lucas Goodman, clearly demonstrated why her powerful vocals and towering stage presence have been highlighted by the likes of Vogue and Complex. Lion Babe’s Pharrell Williams-produced single “Wonder Woman” established the duo’s funky and confident sound, and their full-length debut is due out in the next few months. Red Bull Sound Select artist Nicholas L. Perez opened the show with a set of stylish and syncopated electro-pop.

Credit To The Nation

credittothenation

British hip-hop pioneers Credit to the Nation deliver a new track today, “L.T.D.” featuring Keith Murray and Benji Webbe of Skindred.

The band are gearing up to release a new EP entitled ‘Back to the Dirt’ on December 4, which will be a prelude to a new album scheduled for early 2016, their first in 20 years.

Credit to the Nation (emcee Fusion and producer Crossflow), were one of the first commercial British hip-hop acts in the early 90s, with hit singles such as “Call It What You Want” and “Teenage Sensation”. They were recognized as one of the most influential and controversial rap groups, with numerous hits that tackled weighty issues such as sexism, racism, homophobia and politics.

“L.T.D.”, produced by Crossflow, sees Credit team with Benji Webbe from the popular UK band/Welsh ragga-metal act Skindred, and acclaimed hip-hop artist Keith Murray. New York native, Murray rose to prominence in 1994 with his debut single, an all-time hip hop anthem “The Most Beautifullest Thing in This World” and several chart topping collaborations such as R. Kelly “Home Alone” and Mary J. Blige “Happy”. Murray is also one of the founding members of famed hip-hop group Def Squad, along with Redman and former EPMD member Erick Sermon.

Credit to the Nation, ‘Back to the Dirt’ EP, will be available December 4 via Crossflow Recordings.

Morbid Saint

2e82959b-6281-4027-ac91-5b721e9189f2

A masterpiece of raw and rabid, deadly thrashing madness is going to return as stunning reissue in March 2016 via Century Media Records: MORBID SAINT’s Spectrum of Death! Originally recorded in the late 80’s and produced by Eric Greif (Acrophet, Num Skull, Viogression), the 1990 released album by the Wisconsin thrashers offers a vicious and intense mix of early Slayer, Kreator, Dark Angel, and Destruction that has not lost any of its violent impact.

After a series of low-key reissues and shabby bootlegs, Spectrum of Death will now be released on vinyl replicating the original sleeve design with an extensive LP-sized booklet telling you the full history of the band and including rare visual material as well as double CD and digital. The latter two will be released under the title Spectrum of Death (Extended Edition) and contain everything, MORBID SAINT have recorded so far including the rough mix of the unreleased, often bootlegged second album, Destruction System, various tracks recorded in 2010 and 2012 plus a previously unreleased early 90’s demo, of which only 50 copies were ever made.

Jay Visser explains the history behind this long lost obscurity:
“The unreleased demo never even had a proper title we just called it “the black tape”, kind of ripping off Metallica’s famous album. It was recorded shortly after we had done “Destruction System” in the studio back in 1992. As some of you might know, “Destruction System” only existed as a quick rough mix, which we got from the studio to listen to as a basis to think over doing possible adjustments or redo any tracks that we didn’t like before finishing the mix. At that point, we were over budget with about $500 USD and didn’t have the money to finish the album. So we recorded the demo on a four-track recorder in my basement, and sold about 35-40 copies to cover some of the money we owed the studio. By the time we had enough cash to return and finish the album, the studio was already out of business, and all assets were seized by the bank resulting in all the track tapes being lost (including the master/track tapes for “Spectrum of Death”). For Century Media’s reissue, we digitalized also a copy of this particular demo, and it was fantastically restored especially for this release! Enjoy!”

Whereas the Spectrum of Death album was specially mastered for vinyl, and hardly touched to preserve its original sound, all other tracks have been carefully restored and remastered by Patrick W. Engel / Temple Of Disharmony (Iced Earth, Grave, Morgoth, Massacra) to ensure a most pleasant, violent listening experience!

Vanessa Carlton

9a5b080f-e616-48e2-9044-ba556ae8e183

Vanessa Carlton unveiled her latest video for the song “House of Seven Swords” which gives the viewer an intimate look into Vanessa’s life as a new mother at her new home in Nashville, Tennessee directed by Daniel Henry (Jack White, Kurt Vile). The track is off her widely acclaimed NEW studio album Liberman (standard, deluxe) which is currently out in North America via Dine Alone Records and WSJ Speakeasy premiered the new video today.

“It was Daniel’s idea to film me playing in the house and capturing everyday moments,” says Vanessa Carlton. “Coincidentally my Rhodes is in the baby’s room so none of it was staged. Though the premise of this song was inspired by a tarot card and my brother graduating from college and moving to New York to carve out a life for himself, I think Daniel saw this song reflecting the home that my husband and I have created for ourselves and for our daughter. Even if you write a song for someone else it is still going to reveal something about the writer. I guess I forgot about that.”

Vanessa also announced the second leg of her U.S. tour that will take place at the top of 2016 in support of Liberman. New tour dates in include Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Houston and more.

Queen Kwong’s critically acclaimed, recently released debut album ‘Get A Witness’ was produced by The Icarus Line’s Joe Cardamone, a long time collaborator and friend of Carré’s – one song per day from scratch and completely improvised. This unconventional method was used to capture the rawness of Carré’s songwriting and the spontaneous streak she is now renowned for in her electrifying live shows. ‘Get A Witness’ has seen incredible support across the board, with the record described as a refreshing, electrifying debut from a genuine modern punk rock star.

Sultry and sinister in equal measure, Carré is joined on stage by a group of world class, internationally successful musicians – guitarist Wes Borland, bassist Fred Sablan and drummer Hayden Scott, who, together with Carré, effortlessly create eerie swathes of raw psychedelic guitar and an absolutely killer rhythm section. This top level line up causes intrigue to many a rock fan, but it is Carré’s uncanny gift to combine menace and sure-fire confidence that are leaving audiences wanting more.

Run The Jewels

Run The Jewels recently shared their eyebrow-raising feline-centric remix album Meow The Jewels. Originally posted as a pre-order offering for their seismic sophomore album Run the Jewels 2, the group jokingly promised to remix the album using only cat sounds in exchange for $40,000. Via a highly publicized fan-driven Kickstarter campaign, El-P and Killer Mike rose to the occasion, assembling an enviable stable of marquee producers (including El-P, Just Blaze, Prince Paul, Geoff Barrow of Portishead, Massive Attack, The Alchemist, Zola Jesus, Nick Hook and more) to help deliver the goods.

Download Just Blaze Sample Kit HERE!

Among the initial promises of the campaign, iconic hip hop producer Just Blaze (Jay Z, Kanye West, The Game) offered a free download of the drum samples that made up his arsenal in the early 2000’s, which he has delivered today (and can be obtained here). He issued the following statement: “Thanks to all who contributed to making Meow The Jewels a success. For the uninitiated, I promised to contribute a remix to the project if it was funded, and as an added bonus a good amount of the signature drums I used on many records in the early half of the 2000’s. Please note these are the raw, relatively unprocessed files straight out of my MPC (hence the delay in tracking them down and getting them to you guys). That said, in most cases, you’re not going to instantly press a pad and be like ‘OMG, IT’S THE SUCH AND SUCH SNARE!’ (though that will happen in a few cases). I used a lot of layering, compression, and EQ / Mix techniques to get these things to sound like the drums many of you knew and loved. Enjoy this starting point, and happy drumming! P.S. This is just the beginning. Stay tuned to Splice.com for much more!!”

Well known for their social and political consciousness, Run the Jewels donated the earnings from the Meow The Jewels Kickstarter campaign directly to the families of Michael Brown Jr. and Eric Garner, two men who lost their lives to police violence last year in highly publicized tragedies. All additional profit from the album is being donated by the Run the Jewels and partner label Mass Appeal Records to the National Lawyers Guild’s Mass Defense Committee. The album is available as a free download via www.runthejewels.net, as well as a limited edition, specially packaged tawny brown vinyl version, this time with the iconic Run the Jewels album cover hands represented in actual faux fur.

Morfine Machine

MORFINE MACHINE band
As some of you might remember Morfine Machine announced their debut album ‘We Are All Aliens’ slated for September 2015. But somehow our spaceship took a wrong turn ending up lightyears away from target…

Because of the delay they’ve decided to release a mini album: MORFINE MACHINE “alienation” december 15th, through Sonic Rendevous records/distribution (Alkmaar, the Netherlands) just to kill time and let you guys feel what MORFINE MACHINE is all about.

We have a free download available on soundcloud.

We are working hard to get the “we are all aliens” album to earth next
year. Until then, enjoy MORFINE MACHINE “alienation”.

MAHD

2too
MAHD gives, and he takes away. If you’ve been following the unheard sniper lately you’re probably upset that he’s removing his tracks from the internet. Fortunately, he’s back with Two Too Faded, and it’s here to stay. This is the first single to a project slated for Q1 of 2016 by MAHD. No title for the project as of now, but be on the lookout for a video. The song was released officially on Monday 11/16/2015.

Emancipator

Screen-Shot-2015-11-05-at-10.41.57-AM

Coming off of the September release of his Seven Seas LP (stream here), Doug Appling, aka Emancipator, is touring through the fall with his Emancipator Ensemble. Featuring bass and drums, along with a variety of string instruments played by Doug and close collaborator Ilya Goldberg, including guitar, banjo, and violin, the Emancipator Ensemble brings his music to life at the crossroads between a DJ set and a live band.

A classically-trained violinist turned electronic producer, Emancipator takes inspiration from world music, drawing comparison to artists like Four Tet, Bonobo, and Tycho. Seven Seas debuted at #2 on iTunes’ Electronic chart, and was called “some of the best in cinematic, hip-hop-influenced soundscaping since Massive Attack released Blue Lines in 1991” by Vice Noisey. In a glowing review of one of his shows, the New York Times said “While many attempts to merge classical melodicism with dance music sound awkward and gimmicky…Emancipator has found a balance. No part of his fusion is forced.”
