Locos Por Juana

unnamed

In an effort to continue raising awareness about the current conditions in Puerto Rico and provide additional aid and recovery, today, GRAMMY and Latin GRAMMY nominated band, Locos por Juana, announced the release of the remixed single and music video to one of their titled track,”Pal’ Caribe” ft. Akae Beka (Midnite) exclusively on global music and entertainment platform, TIDAL. In partnering with TIDAL, the bilingual Latin band hopes the release shines a light on Puerto Rico while working in tandem with their CrowdRise campaign, “Giving Solar Light To Puerto Rico.”

The campaign is aimed toward raising funds and sustaining supplies to send Solar Puff lights to communities that are still without electricity. In addition to partnering with TIDAL, Locos por Juana worked closely with Rock the Moon Productions, Sterling Sound, EMPIRE, and The Hispanic Heritage Foundation to help further drive their mission to give back to Puerto Rico. With hundreds of Solar Puffs having already been sent to the Island, Puerto Rico is still in need. To learn more about the campaign and donate to the cause, visit crowdrise.com/locosporjuana.

Fans can listen to the single and check out the music video for “Pal’ Caribe” on TIDAL.com/LocosPorJuana.

“We spread love. Especially in tough times Locos por Juana’s mission is to spread positivity throughout the world. Now more than ever, our brothers and sisters of Puerto Rico and all affected areas need our support, love and prayers. We wanted to do our part to help, so we have partnered with several amazing people to send LIGHT to Puerto Rico,” said Locos por Juana in a statement.

The “Pal’ Caribe” single remix furthers TIDAL’s commitment to supporting philanthropic endeavors and key social issues that the music community is passionate about. Earlier this year, TIDAL raised $3.7 million through their third annual TIDAL X: Brooklyn benefit concert which donated proceeds to relief and recovery organizations in support of those affected by the various unprecedented natural disasters including, Hurricane Harvey, Hurricane Irma, Hurricane Maria, and the earthquakes in Mexico. The TIDAL X: Puerto Rico initiative, which emerged from TIDAL X: Brooklyn, continued fundraising efforts by sending five cargo planes of supplies to the affected areas in Puerto Rico.

Oddisee and Good Compny

unnamed

Straight from the first live album in Oddisee and Mello Music Group history, the new single is a classic. A reimagined live version of the song “Like Really” from the album The Iceberg, the song hums with energy.

Following the release of his trenchant, celebrated LP ‘The Iceberg’ earlier in 2017, prolific MC/producer Oddisee and his band Good Compny embarked on a massive international tour that continues through the end of the year – they have played over 100 shows already. While on this extensive initial international run between March and May, live recordings were made of songs from ‘The Iceberg’ and from his extensive catalog, and will be released as Oddisee’s first-ever live album November 10th, titled ‘Beneath The Surface (Live)’ (Mello Music Group).

Oddisee and his deeply funky, muscular band flex through highlights from ‘The Iceberg’ including the Go-go pocket of “NNGE,” the incensed “Like Really,” and his mission statement for the album, the plea for understanding that is “Things.” The album showcases an MC and his band charging through songs with an important message and having a blast on stage at the same time.

The New Spring

23380217_1734573236573335_1732125534601998098_n

The Moon is the new single from The New Spring’s forthcoming album Wholly Wholly (out on Feb 2, 2018). It’s a Graceland-esque folk-pop gem where the electric guitar and the percussion are the centerpieces alongside Kallesøe’s singing about the illuminated world.

The Moon is an homage to the moon. Bastian Kallesøe elaborates: “I’ve always been obsessed with the moon, and I’ve written countless songs to it and about it. However, this is the first to get on an album. Most of what we think we know about the moon is a lie. Man has never walked on the moon and will never do so. The moon is as far away as the most distant of stars, and we are doomed to admire it from afar while imagining that it’s close. In addition, moonlight is not a reflection of the sun’s light – the light actually comes from a source in the moon’s core.”

Kallesøe goes further into detail on the new single: “I’ve always thought that the struggle between the moon and the sun is a kind of ancient battle taking place everywhere. The sun is daytime, work and life (productiveness). The moon is nightime, stagnation and death (nothingness). The sun illuminates the visible, the moon induces the invisible. The light of the sun uncovers the world, the moon’s light shrouds it. Many cultures have been enormously fascinated by the moon and it’s a common story that people became crazy if they gazed upon the moon for too long (the word ‘lunatic’ says it all). The moon has always been alluring and mysterious, and at the same time dangerous as if it could swallow you up. Today, we no longer believe it is dangerous – because we are sure that we as humans have it under control – and so we do not really look at it anymore. This is the most dangerous thing we can do. We have to look at the moon!”

Junya Boy and Bryson Tiller

unnamed

Dallas TX-based recording artist Junya Boy and Bryson Tiller link for the brand new single “He Ain’t Right”, which sees both artists tell the ladies in so many words “He Ain’t Right”, without directly hating on any man with a plan out there to keep their woman.

ERA9

18268367_1544911152208887_4921070973154756728_n

If you haven’t listened to Montreal, QC’s ERA9 by now, you are missing out one of the most promising, fresh new rock acts of 2017. Combining dynamic, hooky vocals with heavy rock/metal guitars mixed with addictive hip-hop and EDM beats, ERA9 have created an original sonic blend that never “tries too hard” or becomes predictable, as many attempted rock crossover projects have. ERA9 oozes natural songwriting and performance talent, as made evident with each honest, anthem-worthy hit track they’ve released.

ERA9’s latest single “Hero” – released earlier this year via an impressive, entirely iPhone-shot music video – puts such evidence on grand display. Today, the band is following up with the release of an acoustic version of the track, which can be heard via another music video posted now at Alternative Press. The acoustic rendition of the track gives the song a more somber feel, which is what the band hoped to convey with the arrangement.

While ERA9 didn’t originally intend for the track to spur discussion about the distressing state of society, current political struggles, mounting natural disasters and other tough topics, they feel the track takes on a whole new meaning now. Laurie Normandin of ERA9 tells AP,”As 2017 progressed into a year of one disaster after another, a new meaning of the song began to emerge. It seemed like every week our hearts were breaking over something even more devastating than the one before it… hopefully this song can be a beacon of hope for those who are lost.

“Hero” is cut from ERA9’s latest full-length album, Gravity, available here: www.era9.com/gravity

Bonfire Madigan

unnamed

Bonfire Madigan is launching a comprehensive Bandcamp page containing for the first time in one place her remastered catalog spanning 20-years and 13 diverse collections (many of them either previously unreleased, out of print, or never before available online)

Starting on cello at the age of nine, Madigan Shive began her composing career at fifteen in the Pacific Northwest Riot Grrrl scene releasing music with seminal independent record labels K and Kill Rock Stars. Shive has gone on to establish herself as a singular and trailblazing performer, blending folk, art, punk, classical and avant-baroque styles. Her albums include Sew True, From the Burnpile, Saddle the Bridge, Plays for Change, and the recently reissued I Bleed: a Decade of Song. Shive’s music can be heard in films including Better Luck Tomorrow, But I’m a Cheerleader, Chain Camera and Crooked Beauty.

She’s the founding collective member of The Icarus Project, a grassroots support and social justice network led by people living with experiences commonly labeled “mental illness.” Bright Eyes, Vetiver, Unitard (Karen O & Nick Z from Yeah Yeah Yeahs) and Annie Clark (St. Vincent) have all been support acts for Bonfire Madigan. You can see her perform live during the following special shows supporting Jolie Holland & Samantha Parton.

The Zephyr Bones

unnamed

Barcelona-based surfer-psych-pop group The Zephyr Bones have shared a video for the third single, “Telephone” directed by Roger Guàdia (Mourn / Battles / Bad Gyal) + produced by Canada (Beck / Tame Impala), from their upcoming debut, full-length album, Secret Place today via Wonderland prior to the album’s release next Friday, November 10 on La Castanya.

In the past year the band have become a go-to support act for artists coming through Spain including Future Islands and Boogarins. They will take their live show first to Madrid for a Best Fit club night, before heading to the UK for performances in London, Glasgow and Bristol, before heading home to celebrate in Barcelona in December (dates below). The Zephyr Bones will make their North American debut at SXSW in March 2018.

The Zephyr Bones derived their name from the Zephyr surfboard shop in Santa Monica and the Z-Boys skate crew that emerged from it, in the 1970s. Their gorgeously hazy, dreamy, sun-drenched tunes took inspiration from those two favorite pursuits, and artists such as DIIV, Wild Nothing, Real Estate, and Beach Fossils.

Principle songwriters and guitarists Brian Silva and Jossip Tkalcic moved from Chile to Barcelona to form the band, and were joined by the rhythm section, Marc López and Carlos Ramos. Part of Spain’s thriving DIY indie scene (Baywaves, Parrots, etc.), The Zephyr Bones create their own brand of guitar orientated dream pop – which they have christened “beach wave” – recorded at Eclectic Echo Lab studio in Barcelona.

The Zephyr Bones emerged in 2015 with their debut EP, Wishes/Fishes, earning them international acclaim and a showcase at Barcelona’s famed Primavera Sound. The video for “Weird Summer” was debuted via Noisey who called it, “hazy pop vibes like a hit of serotonin” and NME said they; “sound dark, summery and trippy all at once.”

The band returned in 2016 with the “Black Lips/Surrounded By Sunflowers” 7” single, co-released worldwide by New York Label Other Music Recording Co. and La Castanya. DIY magazine featured The Zephyr Bones in a story on the Spanish underground rock scene, alongside Hinds and MOURN, writing “Wooziness abounds throughout their shimmering, psychedelia-dipped tracks.”

Caught between suspense and narcosis, The Zephyr Bones provide the coordinates to their favorite place. It’s not the place itself that is important but that it should be kept personal – it should be your own secret place, which can be anywhere, physical or non-physical – a place or a feeling that is kept close to heart. It could be special memories of love – with partners or friends, separated by bed sheets, miles or light years.

Tour Dates:
11/15 – Madrid, ES @ Siroco (Best Fit Club)
11/24 – London, UK @ Shacklewell Arms
11/25 – Glasgow, UK @ Mono
11/27 – Bristol, UK @ Hy Brasil
11/29 – London, UK @ Rough Trade East
12/16 – Barcelona, ES @ Be Good

La Bouquet

unnamed

Washington Square Music (Razor & Tie’s imprint label) announces the signing of Los Angeles based duo, La Bouquet. The musical miscreants La Bouquet, carve out “emotional songs you can dance to” on their debut EP, Heavy Sunshine, which will be released November 10th, 2017. Leading up to the release, La Bouquet will perform at The Roxy Theater in Los Angeles on November 7th in celebration of the EP. Today, the band released a new track off the EP along with a brand-new video on FLOOD Magazine for “Kiss Me, Kill Me.” Driven by propulsive percussion, a danceable groove, and six-string delay, it is a story about heartbreak and somebody who has so much power over you that you’re begging to be hurt, to feel anything at all.

Kiss Me, Kill Me (Official Video) by La Bouquet on VEVO.

Siphoning bedroom-rattling R&B falsetto through post-punk soundscapes, the duo-Bryan Sammis and Jake Lopez -exist between two worlds. “Obviously, there’s an eighties influence, but there’s also a big R&B influence,” says Bryan. “At the same time, we also come from a punk ethos. We don’t want everything to sound too perfect. We just want every note to evoke some sort of emotion.”

The seeds for La Bouquet were planted when Bryan and Jake met at their Los Angeles high school. The two kept up over the years while Bryan joined The Neighbourhood on drums, performing, writing and touring on the group’s gold-selling “I Love You.” After splitting from The Neighbourhood in 2015, he turned his attention towards the indie-pop solo project Olivver The Kid, where longtime friend, Jake Lopez joined him as a touring guitar player/writing partner, and they supported Halsey throughout North America in addition to a jaunt across Russia. “On tour, we started talking about doing something for real,” recalls Bryan. “We wanted to make music that was fun to play live together and that would be very collaborative between us. We’re both ‘lifers’ in this game. We’ve honed our skills through touring and playing with different bands. So, we just began writing together and it all came together pretty quick”.

Between building a local buzz around L.A., they hit the studio for the recording of Heavy Sunshine (as well as their forthcoming LP), which has already garnered praise from the likes of Baeble, BuzzBands.LA, FLOOD Magazine, Mad Sound Magazine, and more, and has amassed over 750k streams on self-released tracks, while the track “Loveless” continues to receive support from KROQ Locals Only. Musically, each song had to pass what they referred to as “The Night Drive Test.” “If you can drive to a track late at night with the windows down smoking a cigarette, it passes the test,” he goes on. “These felt right.” Sonically and visually, Heavy Sunshine figures into a much larger vision for La Bouquet. “The art, aesthetic and tone are integral to our band. We pay close attention to every detail. It’s all a part of who we are.”

Ultimately, Heavy Sunshine represents the perfect soundtrack for drunken nights dancing pain away and pondering lost love. That said, they’ll undeniably make you think and feel. “I just want people to feel something,” Bryan leaves off. “In many ways, like most people, we’re just winging it, but it’s all about bringing people together. I feel alive when I sing these songs.”

Speaking With Ghosts

unnamed

Speaking With Ghosts is a 5-piece Metalcore band based out of Chicago, Illinois. The band consists of Ryan Wilmot, Craig Hoffman, Tyler Baskin, Pat Olson, and Jake Stone.

Starting in December of 2013, the band set off to make an impact on the local scene and worked tirelessly to play shows and put out music. In June of 2014, the band traveled up to Michigan to record their debut EP, Searching For Direction. Upon their return, they shot a music video for a single off the EP, Enemy.

Since then, they’ve continued to play shows and make an impact on the local music scene, culminating in a chance to play Knotfest 2015 in San Bernardino, California, and have worked all throughout 2016 to write an album worthy of being their first full length release.

In 2017, the band has worked hard to tour in order to spread influence nationwide and create new friends along the way. Their work ethic shows no signs of stopping, and 2017 will see the release of the band’s first full length album, Illuminated, released under Famined Records.

The band takes their influences from other bands such as The Ghost Inside, Kingdom of Giants, Fit For A King, Parkway Drive, The Color Morale, and August Burns Red. The band strives to maintain an exciting, crowd inclusive show that is both enjoyable to listen to and entertaining to watch.

The Gloomies

unnamed

California based indie-pop duo The Gloomies are back with a new single “Space”. The track is a lush reverb-drenched power ballad-esque duet between the Gloomies’ Andy Craig & guest vocalist Madeline Follin (Cults). This special collaboration was mixed by Cults’ songwriter/multi-instrumentalist Brian Oblivion with additional assistance by producer/engineer Shane Stoneback.

Belle Miners

unnamed

Canadian/Australian trio Belle Miners released their debut album ‘Powerful Owl’ on 3 November and announce a string of tour dates in Australia in January 2018. The album was made while traveling and performing in Australia, and produced by JUNO award-winner Joby Baker at Baker Studios in British Columbia, Canada.

Life-long friends, Canadian musicians Felicia Harding and Marina Avros and Australian-based Jaime Jackett, combine exquisite harmonies and relatable stories into a 10-track upbeat sonic journey covering themes from love and loss to overcoming life-threatening illness.

’25 Years’ is a beautiful ode to the strength of enduring relationships, and first single ‘Fall In Love With Me’ is a romantic tale of same-sex love. “It was completely by chance that the government of Australia happened to be going to the polls the very week we were planning to release our single,” says Jaime. “And with the marriage equality plebiscite up and coming in Australia, we wanted to show our support for our band mate, Marina, and the LGBTQI community in Australia, and the world, by offering up our pending release for equality… it is focused on love, personal challenge and death. It’s sort of the collective life story of the band, if you will.”

They don’t shy away from darker tales of personal hardship either, tracks ‘Strange World’ and ‘Night Flight’ are inspired by Jaime’s brush with cancer. “Last year, I had a brain stem tumour removed that had been considered inoperable and benign for 11 years. After a series of events, it was my family’s discovery of Dr. Charlie Teo that saw me having the ‘inoperable’ removed. As it turned out, it had become a cancer. I believe he saved my life. The band has helped get me through this insane period of my life… we stubbornly toured in February, despite the challenge, and followed that by recording ‘Powerful Owl’ after the tour… Needless to say, that experience was a huge influence on songs that I penned. Lyrics come in many ways – fully formed, smooshy syllables, painfully pulled from the ether, or magically drifting into your head. Scribbled on paper, recorded on phones, or repeated by rote so their remembered for later when a pen or phone is handy! Our muses and geniuses take many forms!”

Belle Miners will also be touring the country in January 2018, taking in venues across New South Wales, Tasmania, one show in Western Australia and a string of shows in Victoria.

Black Water Rising

unnamed

BLACK WATER RISING is a collection of soul-baring, angst-ridden, riff-heavy material proudly anchored in the foundations of traditional hard rock. Their monster guitar riffs, soaring melodic vocals, and big hooks make them the epitome of no frills riff rock. Lyrically, the band strives to shed light on the socially and politically dark times we live in. BWR aims to bring a fresh sound while keeping the hard rock scene alive.

The band’s discography includes the self-titled Black Water Rising (2008), an album that achieved the number one slot on Amazon’s Hard Rock chart upon release, and Pissed and Driven (2013), an honest, barebones rock album that climbed rock/metal charts. Now, partnering with Pavement Entertainment, BWR brings you their third full album, Electrified.

The new album promises to be more riff-heavy, featuring hooks and catchy choruses to pull you in, all while retaining a musical identity of its own.

Electrified can be found in digital and retail outlets everywhere today!

3ckiss

unnamed

Bronx, New York’s own 3ckiss (pronounced ‘eck-iss’) releases “Let Me In”, his debut single via Monopolyhouse. 3ckiss opts for a personal song on his introduction to the world, engaging in a series of bars about the obstacles he has endured and the strength needed to overcome them.

The song features the unique production of Monopolyhouse producer Rayne Storm, whose emotion-inducing synths and warped bass drums provide the energy to ignite the fire in 3ckiss’ lyrics.

“Let Me In” is now available on iTunes, Apple Music, Tidal, Google Play, Spotify, Amazon and all major digital outlets.

Pistoleros

unnamed

On November 3, Phoenix, AZ label Fervor Records released the newest from Tempe legends Pistoleros. The album marks the 25th anniversary of a band who has been through their fair share of label and lineup changes over the years (members of Gin Blossoms, Jayhawks, and Smithereens), but this release sees the reunion of brothers Mark and Lawrence Zubia and original drummer Mark Riggs. Ed Masley of the Arizona Republic said, “it could be my favorite thing they’ve ever done,” and Surviving the Golden Age compared the music to The New York Dolls.

Benjamin Booker

unnamed

In his new video for “Believe,” Benjamin Booker takes us on a surrealistic journey through military training with striking visuals from director James Lees (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Bloc Party).

Says director James Lees: “We wanted to create something inherently musical and entertaining whilst still being a meditation on the themes within the song. Feeling lost and directionless, the inherent human need to find a sense of belonging and the many false roads you find yourself down that ultimately fail to provide a purpose in life we all feel pressured to identify in adulthood.”

“Believe” is off Booker’s latest album ‘Witness’ (out now on ATO), which has earned career-best raves and spotlights from Time Magazine, FADER, the NY Times, Rolling Stone, Entertainment Weekly, NPR Music + more, as well as a performance on Conan last month. Check out the performance of psych-punk album highlight “Right On You” here: http://teamcoco.com/video/benjamin-booker-right-on-you-08/08/17

Booker just wrapped up an extensive US tour last week with some of his biggest shows to date – including festival plays at ACL, Voodoo + more – with The Chicago Tribune calling his recent show at Thalia Hall “hypnotic…putting black pain to stripped yet powerful beats and rhythms that shake.” Booker heads overseas next month to kick off a European run.

Casper Skulls

unnamed

Casper Skulls’ Mercy Works LP is out today on Buzz Records, and to mark the release the band are premiering the video for the album’s single “Lingua Franca” with Billboard. The song was featured on an episode of NPR’s All Songs Considered this week, and has garnered praise, along with the rest of the LP, from outlets like Noisey, FADER and Consequences of Sound. The song traces the breakdown of communication in a relationship with a subtle sense of grandeur, abetted by a string quartet, and features co-lead vocalist Melanie St. Pierre, who elaborates on the creative process behind the song and the video to Billboard:

“‘Lingua Franca’ by definition is a common language spoken between two people whose native languages are different. Communication is the cause of a lot of friction in relationships and often once the communication is lost so is the bond between people. I think when we were working on the song we wanted it to sound different depending on the listener. I think it can be heard as both a breakup song or a song about the grey areas in a relationship.”

“The video was directed by Benjamin Dabu at the end of the summer in Caledon, Ontario. The idea was based on classic crime duos in films like Thelma and Louise, Kit and Holly (Badlands), and Bonnie and Clyde. We wanted the video to represent a lot of the same emotions conveyed in the song, particularly focusing on a dysfunctional relationship where the couple enables one another. I like how in the video you don’t quite know what kind of crime the couple has committed which I think ties into the ambiguity of the lyrics.”

TYuS

unnamed

R&B singer, songwriter and producer TYuS released his new EP, Phases, today via Warner Bros. Records. Super producer Hit-Boy (Jay-Z, Kanye West, Justin Bieber, Eminem, Kendrick Lamar) handled most of the production for the EP, along with TYuS. Exclusively premiered by Complex today, TYuS dropped a stunning video for his song “Think About Me.”

The music showcases a unique R&B style that TYuS has carefully cultivated, blending nineties-style soundscapes with 21st century hashtag-worthy lyricism. For TYuS, life’s cycle is a series of Phases. “My life in particular is always going through phases,” he says. “Ever since I could remember, I was always moving from one phase to the next. That really influences the music. This is currently a growing phase for me. It’s time to go all in. So, that’s what I did on this EP.”

The Portland-born and Los Angeles-based singer has grown a steady buzz and strong following since his emergence on the scene in 2015, racking up more than 15 million Soundcloud plays and more than 90K followers. His 2016 EP Never Forget pulled in 8 million streams on Spotify and averaged 212K monthly listeners on the platform. Following his success and critical acclaim for Never Forget, TYuS relocated to Los Angeles this past summer and jumped into the studio with Hit-Boy to create Phases.

“He brought the sprinkles on top with a nice cherry,” smiles TYuS. “I usually recorded the majority of my work alone, but Hit-Boy added another level of creativity. He’s a young legend out here and a finisher. Years ago, when I was still recording in the garage, I remember punching up his tutorials on YouTube. He really played a big part in my musical life. It’s a surreal moment to bring everything full circle.”

MRK

unnamed

Los Angeles-based experimental pop artist MRK has released a striking new music video for her cover of Chris Isaak’s “Wicked Game.” Directed by Leila Jarman of critically acclaimed art collective MadAsHell, the vivid and cinematic video adds kaleidoscopic, slightly sinister and colorfully surreal visuals to the song’s wistful synth-infused melodies.

MRK said of her inspiration: “Love is the claw that scratches my itch and tears out my eyes. Love is an open wound, festering in the day and yearning to be mended at night. Love is constant contradiction. It fuels regrets, it burns logic, it thrusts us all into and out of being…this is a Black Moon Lilith of a video, portraying woman as both hunter and hunted, charlatan and innocent—which is precisely what I had hoped to express in my performance.”

MRK fuses dark indie-pop with performance art for a body of work that spans the worlds of music, art, film and beyond. With the release of her debut EP BLOOD, the singer introduced her peerless voice and provocative songwriting to praise from Vice, Nylon, Flaunt, Juxtapoz and more, while LA Weekly named her one of their “Ten LA Artists to Watch”.

MRK’s music video for “River of Blood,” also directed by MadAsHell, explores the artist’s dual aesthetic of visual sensuality and unearthing of the sinister depths of the psyche. The video for “River of Blood” won Best Video at Minikino Film Week, while MRK’s video for “27” won Best Video at Nonplussed Film Fest and her video work has been lauded by Bogotá, Les Femmes, Cinevision, Toronto Arthouse, iPhone, IndieWise, Social Machinery, Art All Night, and Figari Film Festivals.

In addition, 2017 brought a combined art/music residency at downtown LA’s Honeytrap, a starring role in short film “A Dream of Paper Flowers” and performances across the city at the Gregorio Escalante Gallery for Juxtapoz Magazine, the Dromebox Mediablitz show and more.

Future Jr

unnamed

Future Jr. is the sonic tapestry forged by 23 year old Australian, Matt Nainby. Influenced by the likes of Toro y Moi, Lorde and Winston Surfshirt — Nainby began his alchemy in the depths of his parents house, with guitar in hand crouched over the glow of his synth collection.

Armed with a disarming lyricism and a love for immersive musical textures, he has bound together a collection of intriguing electro-pop offerings. In late 2016 he hit the bustle of the Los Angeles songwriting scene, where he dove head first into a number of all-consuming mind melds with noted writers and producers. The result, his soon to be released debut EP, ‘Vacancy’.

First cut, Suburbia Blue was released early this Autumn, lauded by NME, Neon Gold, DIY Magazine and The Line Of Best Fit, garnering global support. The video was premiered by Australian tastemaker site Pilerats and the track was added to Spotify New Music Friday in Germany, Turkey and Switzerland. Apple Music AU & UK featured it in their Best Of New Week, A-List New Artists + more. Not long after, fellow Aussies Tigertown got their mitts on it completing a remix which Neon Gold premiered on their blog.

Both new track ‘Sentimental Trick’ and ‘Suburbia Blue’ are lifted from Future Jr.’s much-anticipated debut EP ‘Vacancy’, set for release in 2018.

Jonti

unnamed

Jonti marks his long awaited return today with the release of his latest full-length, Tokorats, out now on Stones Throw Records. After sharing videos for “Sleeping And Falling” & “Staring Window”, you can hear the full record now via Billboard and all streaming services.

Tokorats has been seeing support across the boards, from artists like Brockhampton, Flying Lotus, Nick Murphy, and Mac Miller, to DJs around the world, including Gilles Peterson and Tom Ravenscroft of BBC6, Anne Litt & Anthony Valadez of KCRW, and a feature on Double J Australia and Bandcamp.

Having grown up in South Africa, lived in Los Angeles and New York, Jonti settled in a beachside suburb in Sydney where Tokorats was completed with the help of Jonti’s friends. Getting contributions along the way from fellow Australian artists and friends Gotye, Kirin J Callinan, Bus vipers, Gauci and Mohi, Jonti called on Odd Future / MellowHype’s Hodgy and rising Australian hip-hop star Sampa The Great to contribute vocal features on “Animah” and “Island Rose” respectively.

Sweet and Lynch

unnamed

SWEET & LYNCH will release their second album “Unified” November 10th via Frontiers Music Srl. This past Friday the band debuted the first music video from the album, “Walk”.

Sweet describes ‘Walk’ as “A song that stretched the boundaries of the band and it’s also a song that may surprise some people in a great way. It takes the listener back to the days when it wasn’t about keeping a song under four minutes but more so about creating a masterpiece.”

George Lynch on how the song and music came together, “The music came about as I was tinkering with some newly acquired vintage gear that was similar to what Brian may from queen used. The sound was so Queen like that it inspired me to write this epic “Queen-esque” instrumental piece The original arrangement was a rock opera magnum opus at almost 10 minutes long so we eventually edited it down to its current six minutes.”

SWEET & LYNCH is centered around the talents of guitarist/vocalist Michael Sweet of heavy metal stalwarts STRYPER (ex-BOSTON) and iconic guitarist George Lynch (LYNCH MOB, KXM, ex-DOKKEN) along with bassist James Lomenzo (ex MEGADETH, WHITE LION, BLACK LABEL SOCIETY) and drummer Brian Tichy (The Dead Daisies, ex-WHITESNAKE). In addition to his vocal and guitar work, Michael Sweet handled all of the production duties on “Unified”

The combination of Sweet’s powerful, high-octane vocals, Lynch’s immediately recognizable guitar work, and Lomenzo and Tichy’s propulsive rhythm section make for an amazing musical combination. The album gives both Sweet and Lynch the opportunity to operate outside of the boundaries of their most well known work and really stretch their wings. Pummeling, traditional heavy metal combines with hook-laden melodic rock and traditional hard rock for a recipe that will satisfy the hungriest of rock fans!

Kelela

unnamed

Following the release of her critically-acclaimed debut album, Take Me Apart, Kelela returns with a new video. “Blue Light,” one of the standouts from her breakthrough album, receives a sensual and alien-like visual accompaniment courtesy of director Helmi. The new video made its debut earlier today on television, via BET Soul and BET Her and is now available online.

On November 12th, Kelela will host the North American premiere of her short film ALL IT TOOK at the New Museum in New York. More information as well as tickets for the screening is available here. Kelela is currently on a North American tour which features a newly-conceived show that expands Kelela’s setup to include additional band members. Grant Earl LaValley

unnamed

Joshua Tree, CA-based, psych-folk artist Grant Earl LaValley shares a new video for his recent album’s lead single, “The In-Betweens.” Today, Folk Radio UK premiered the video, cheering, “love this video”…”amazing setting.” Grant Earl LaValley’s debut LP, From LaValley Below, is out now on Exit Stencil Recordings. Martin Craft, collaborator and band member of Jarvis Cocker, made notable contributions to the record, including production, recording, mixing and instrumental credits. All songs, except “The In-Betweens,” were mixed by producer Robert Harder, who has credentials with artists, such as, The Slits, David Byrne and Brian Eno.

Last month, Impose exclusively streamed the LP in advance of its official release on Friday, October 13th, stating, “Isolation and loneliness are reinvented as concepts through the album. For there to be darkness, there also needs to be light.” All Things Go shared second single and official music video for “Where Are All My Friends,” noting its “dark imagery” presented through “psychedelic flashbacks.” In keeping with Grant Earl LaValley’s communal, DIY and collaborative lifestyle, From LaValley Below was recorded with a number of friends, in various cities and environments throughout the US. The album was inspired by hot Joshua Tree summers, summers that were too harsh for human habitation, and the journey to find somewhere to exist. In search for cooler climates and better conditions for recording, LaValley and his dog would hop into their ’87 Toyota van, and explore the US, recording in mobile locations. These places include his hometown of Columbus, Ohio, and studios in Chicago and Los Angeles. LaValley’s record presents diverse instrumentation with its collaborative effort and communal vibe. It displays his vagabond, on the road lifestyle as a major influence, as well. While gearing up for this debut, he is currently residing in an off the grid cabin in the California desert. LaValley elicited additional musical collaboration for this release from a crew of visionary artists, including Martin Craft, Hans Wagner and Victoria Williams.

Krief

unnamed

Throughout his successful career as the lead guitarist and co-writer of the Canadian indie rock band The Dears, Patrick Krief has been busy, and we mean b u s y. Touring with the likes of Midlake, Morrissey, Metric, Broken Social Scene in places like the Wembley Arena, Hyde Park, Electric Ballroom, Koko as well as V Festival, Redding, Leeds, Glastonbury, T in the Park to name (not) a few, we can confidently say that sonically Krief knows his stuff.

Gaining the support and recognition from NME numerous times, BBC 6Music’s Steve Lamacq as well as being invited on the Jonathan Ross Show, Krief is ready to release his solo material.

Signed to Fierce Panda Records, his upcoming new single “Ordinary Lies” unveils a musician with a true eloquence of expression. The intimate piano-based intro, in the style of Cat Power’s “I Don’t Blame You”, instantly grabs both ears with its authenticity (fyi, sounds incredible on headphones). It hits you from the get-go and you just know that this is going to be good.

Krief’s soul-bearing Jose Gonzalez/ Ray Lamontagne-esque vocals begin singing with the soft Whitley-like harmonies joining soon after. David Schiffman’s production (RHCP, Tom Petty, NIN, Johnny Cash) is impeccably modest in its approach, where each part- from synths through guitar bits to piano plonks (all played by Krief himself)- serves its purpose, holds its depth and builds the arrangement’s thematic expansion.

“Ordinary Lies” is taken from the forth-coming Automanic Red + Automanic Blue albums, which according to Krief, are “autonomous in their flow and not meant to be listened to in one sitting. Although releasing one without the other simply wouldn’t make any sense — the plot truly exists within the invisible line that bonds them.”

“Ordinary Lies” is out everywhere via Fierce Panda Records NOW, with the double album Automanic to follow on the 17th November 2017.

Escapism Refuge

b3f4cd83-a34b-4445-b9de-323f0111c2de

Having cemented his status as one of Johannesburg’s hottest producers, Escapism Refuge prepares for the release of his highly anticipated debut LP ‘Hold’ with double-A single: ‘Drifting’ and ‘Misfit’.

Hailing from South Africa Jason Beukes has cultivated a mass following through his crafting of ambient, electronic soundscapes. Jason’s affinity with rhythm was revealed when he began playing the drums at 13. A passion for textured beats was ignited which saw the young musician delve into production. Absorbing himself in sophisticated patterns and bringing his beats to life, the young virtuoso fuses elements of trip hop, down tempo and 2 step, at times reminiscent of Radiohead, Bonobo and A Tribe Called Quest.

‘Drifting’ sees Zeb Samuels’ pronounced vocals woven within Jason’s intricate, electronic textures. Immersed in a slow, mesmeric half-time hip hop beat and ethereal descending piano improvisations – performed by Zeb Samuels as part of his feature – the result is a trippy, spaced-out vibe exuding relaxation. Ramping up the dynamic ‘Misfit’ complements its precursor by providing a more upbeat, charged ambience – think heavy delay and a powerful backbeat, presided over by a resonating synth melody.

The aspiring producer has been advocated by the likes of Gilles Peterson (BBC 6Music), Joe Kay (Soulection) and Lefto (Brownwood Recordings). Jason has also garnered crucial support from key online tastemakers including LiveMag SA, Generation Bass and Between 10 and 5, which admiringly describe his sound as “zoned-out antigravity dance [music]”.

With a plethora of critically acclaimed EPs to his name, everything has culminated to this point and with his debut album imminent, 2017 is certainly set to be a defining year for Escapism Refuge!

Maggie Schneider

unnamed

Bright-eyed and bubbly new artist, Maggie Schneider, is ecstatic to announce her brand new EP, entitled Tinted Glasses due out January 12, 2018. With a culmination of fresh, honest, and open-hearted lyrics, Schneider writes her songs about her love of life and optimistic point of view. The 4-track EP, produced by Rian Dawson of All Time Low at Track Happy Studios, is about navigating life, relationships, growing up and delves into how her life has changed since her debut release, Insomniac. Off the forthcoming EP, Tinted Glasses, comes “695 North Avenue”which released earlier this month. Sick Snaps stated “Schneider combines her singer/songwriter style with a bit of a pop-rock touch to bring the song to life…Her writing is upbeat, but will fill you with feelings of nostalgia through her storytelling approach in her lyricism.” The song is about the Atlanta-based venue The Masquerade, which she coins as a major part of building her musical career. As an ode to her hometown venue, Schneider continues,

“It’s a place dear to my heart, and I feel like I’ve grown up there. 695 North Avenue was the original address of the venue before they moved to another space last year, and it will always serve as my musical home. So many of my favorite memories took place in this building, from singing live with State Champs to a sold-out crowd, to dancing the nights away with my best friends. I am so thankful for all of the moments I’ve spent at The Masquerade, and for all of the support that the management and crew have given me over the years. This song is dedicated to them and all that they’ve done for both myself and the Atlanta music scene as a whole.”

Throughout her career, Maggie Schneider has opened for State Champs, Jonny Craig, Like Pacific, and Courage My Love, to name a few. She is gearing up for a very special evening at The Masquerade to celebrate her new EP on November 25th with proceeds going to RAINN. The event at Purgatory at The Masquerade will also feature Next Year’s End, Survival Kit, and Bird Laww. Tickets at $10 in advance, starting at 7pm (all ages).
