Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Monday, we will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across our virtual desk.

Green Day

Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Green Day are pleased to share Heart Like a Hand Grenade, an unprecedented behind the scenes look at the writing and recording of their legendary album American Idiot. The documentary will be available for purchase digitally and on DVD via Reprise Records tomorrow, November 13, 2015.

Captured on film by director John Roecker, ‘Heart Like a Hand Grenade’ is considered by many to be a “lost film”. More than 10 years after the release of American Idiot, the 2015 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Inductees present this time capsule rock doc that takes us inside the songwriting and recording process of their Grammy Award-winning punk rock opera. American Idiot achieved Multi-Platinum status worldwide and became a hugely successful Broadway show. Looking back on the band in the studio is both nostalgic and insightful-the band knew they had something good, but even they didn’t know how good.

“We can’t believe this was shot over a decade ago. Little did we know that this was only the beginning of the adventure this record would go on to be,” said Billie Joe Armstrong. “We are stoked for our fans to see this footage for the first time and watch us try and figure it all out.” ‘Heart Like a Hand Grenade’ premiered last month at the 38th Mill Valley Film Festival. Abramorama theatrically released the film on more than 135 screens in the United States on October 15th, 2015. The following day, the film was released exclusively via Vimeo On Demand. Yesterday, Heart Like a Hand Grenade saw further theatrical release in theaters in multiple countries around the globe including Australia, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany, Italy, Japan, Latvia, Mexico, New Zealand, Russia, Spain, United Kingdom and Uruguay.

Joey Bada$$ and G. Herbo

Rising Chicago rapper G Herbo (FKA Lil Herb) premieres “Lord Knows,” his powerhouse collaboration featuring Joey Bada$$ with production by Metro Boomin. The track premiered via The FADER. “‘Lord Knows’ which finds the two youngsters trading unflinching bars- Got some problem only Lord knows, sometimes I need a break but I got more shows, Herb growls-over a toothy Metro production. Here’s to hoping there is more like this to come,” said the site. Out as a two-song digital single on November 20th via Red Bull Sound Select, Lord Knows will also feature a second track featuring G Herbo’s fellow Chicago MC Lil Bibby. Music Emissions witnessed G Herbo and Joey Bada$$ share the bill at Red Bull Sound Select Presents: 30 Days in LA’s show at The Belasco Theater last week. G Herbo recently signed with Jonny Shipes’ Cinematic Music Group and “Lord Knows” marks the first collaboration from the two Cinematic label-mates.

The Delta Saints

Nashville band, The Delta Saints, who recently released their album, Bones on August 7, 2015 have been touring the world in support of their debut album with Loud & Proud Records. Bones was produced, engineered and mixed by Third Man Records alum, Eddie Spear who has assisted on projects with Jack White, Arctic Monkeys and Neil Young to name a few.

The band has been garnering praise in the press (see below) for a sound that is all their own but with hints of My Morning Jacket, The Black Keys and The White Stripes thrown in for good measure. Recently, Chrissie Hynde was a guest on Bravo’s “Watch What Happen Live” and told a caller that she saw The Delta Saints play Akron, OH, that they are a “great band” and suggested that people buy Bones. The Delta Saints are a global touring band having spent the last eight years playing festivals and sold out headline shows in the U.S. and across Europe averaging about 200 shows per year, organically growing their audience fan by fan, city by city, country by country. They are currently on tour playing several dates in Europe but will be back in the States to play a headline tour beginning December 3, 2015 in Lawrence, KS and will finish up in Nashville to play a special New Year’s Eve show at Marathon Music Works (all dates listed below).

G. Love and Citizen Cope

Today, ‘hip-hop blues’ pioneers G. Love and Special Sauce have released the brand-new video for “Muse” (featuring Citizen Cope) exclusively through The Daily “Muse” is the first single from G. Love and Special Sauce’s latest full-length release Love Saves The Day from Brushfire Records. The Album “finds G and company turning up the heat,” say The Daily Beast, “roughening the edges of their smooth sound in a way that will have fans stomping their feet in appreciation.”

Shot with one camera in black and white film by director Emmett Malloy, the video for “Muse” features guitar slinging troubadours G. Love and Citizen Cope in a simple background with the video’s ‘muse’. The song is “about finding and following your muse which can be related to a person or an idea,” says G. Love. “It’s about that kind of true love that exists on both the everyday and spiritual level.”

“Muse” is steadily climbing the FMQB Triple A Radio Charts and this week landed at #27. Love Saves The Day, which released on October 30th, features collaborations from a host of guest artists including Citizen Cope, Lucinda Williams, David Hidalgo of Los Lobos, Ozomatli, DJ Logic, Money Mark, Zach Gill and Adam Topol. Alesso announces he will be releasing a series of EPs next year and shares a sneak peek below. The Grammy-nominated Swedish producer sets forth his new “Less Is More” concept that will see him putting out fresh new music, art and videos continuously throughout 2016. He will also be winding back on shows in order to produce bigger, select performances in each tour market with quality being pushed to the max for truly special experiences.

“I wanted to limit the amount of appearances I made worldwide in 2016 in order to really focus on the experience, and make it really special. I have a lot of amazing venues lined up. The EP’s will also allow me to capture a period of time or an influence from a particular place and sound then encapsulate it in one piece of work and later move easily into a new phase. I’m 24 and this year is all about experimenting and pushing myself more than ever, both with my music and my shows. And of course, its perfect for me that Sweden is the first announcement.” – ALESSO

He will only be doing two shows in his native Sweden: headlining both Summerburst fest in Gothenburg on May 28th and Summerburst in Stockholm on June 11th. The shows will mark Alesso’s first headlining slot after his sold out show at the legendary The Globe theatre. The remaining shows will be announced shortly and new music will drop at the top of the year. He’ll also be releasing limited clothing items that will only be available for 24 hours at a time launching this December.

When ESKA’s self-titled debut album was released in April 2015 on Naim Edge Records, the BBC Radio 6Music tastemaker Gilles Peterson proclaimed ESKA “the finest UK singer”, The Guardian dubbed her “enchanting… inventive” and The Independent called her “one of the most idiosyncratic and original talents”. The Zimbabwe-born, London-raised musician and songwriter took five years to make her album – “a mind-bending gem” (The Observer) – but it was worth the wait.

Speaking to Lauren Laverne on BBC Radio 6 Music, on the announcement of her Mercury Prize nomination, Eska admitted to having “butterflies in the stomach” going on to say “It is really overwhelming actually and it’s a wonderful feeling.” Talking about the recording process Eska told Lauren it “was really exciting, really thrilling, but also challenging and scary!”

A singer whose unique voice has adorned the albums of such original acts as Nitin Sawhney, Courtney Pine and Tony Allen, ESKA’s been in high demand in recent years. But her own music is something else; imagine the psyche soul of Minnie Riperton, unexpected, whimsical melodic twists of Kate Bush and ornate detail of folk legends Pentangle arranged in an intoxicating meld, and you’re only getting close. ESKA has been compared to Joni Mitchell, earned plaudits from influential radio DJs Lauren Laverne and Don Letts, performed live sessions for Radio X and Radio 3’s Late Junction, and had everyone from The Times to hip dance music site Boiler Room in a lather.

ESKA made headlines with an electrifying performance at Rick Owens’ controversial Paris Fashion Week show. With the album now ready to drop in Europe, she’s about to set the continent aflame too, with unmissable live dates at Salzburg, Austria’s Jazz & the City event on 25th October and at The Hague, Holland’s prestigious Crossing Border festival on 14th November.

In the UK she’s set to play Liverpool’s new Soul Fest on 24th October, the Midlands Arts Centre in Birmingham on 18th November, and at Milton Keynes’ The Stables on 26th November, before a triumphant London return within the majestic environs of the Islington Assembly Hall (27th), and a spotlight show at Norwich Arts Centre (28th). It’s a chance to see this celestial talent where she excels: in the live domain. Time to discover just why ESKA has been getting so much attention…

LIVE DATES 2015/2016
14th November Crossing Border Festival, The Hague, Holland

18th November Midlands Art Centre, Birmingham, UK

27th November Islington Assembly Hall, London, UK
