Music journalists get hit with a steady helping of press releases every day. For the music fan without that kind of sensory overload, a lot of music news can pass by without being seen. Every Friday, we will weed through and compile a list of some of the most intriguing press releases to come across our virtual desk.

Loudwire Music Awards

AVENGED SEVENFOLD will headline the LOUDWIRE MUSIC AWARDS Los Angeles concert on Tuesday, October 24 at The Novo. Tickets for the concert are available to the public and on-sale now (here) and at

Avenged Sevenfold–vocalist M. Shadows, guitarists Synyster Gates and Zacky Vengeance, bassist Johnny Christ and drummer Brooks Wackerman–became one of the world’s biggest rock bands by creating a sound that broke through obstacles of language, distance and culture. They raised the stakes and standards for the genre with a string of blockbuster albums, including their 2005 platinum-selling breakthrough, City Of Evil, 2007’s platinum-selling Avenged Sevenfold and two consecutive No. 1’s on Billboard’s Top 200 Albums chart: 2010’s Nightmare and 2013’s Hail To The King. They’ve achieved Diamond, Platinum and Gold awards for album sales in nearly a dozen countries, racked up over a billion video views and a billion-plus Spotify streams, have consistently been one of the most-played bands on rock radio for over a decade with multiple No. 1 singles, and have headlined arenas and the biggest rock festivals around the globe, amassing a diehard international fan base whose members number in the millions.

From M. Shadows of Avenged Sevenfold, “We are excited to celebrate a night of heavy metal with all of our friends. We hope to see everyone there.”

Also added to the bill will be a special live performance by IN THIS MOMENT. Known worldwide for their dramatic live performances, In This Moment– Maria Brink (Vocals), Chris Howorth (Guitar), Travis Johnson (Bass), Randy Weitzel (Guitar) Kent Diimmel (Drums)–have received rapturous praise in a range of national outlets.

The group released their new album RITUAL this summer via Atlantic Records in partnership with Roadrunner Records. Produced by longtime collaborator and multiple GRAMMY® Award nominee Kevin Churko (Ozzy Osbourne), with RITUAL, In This Moment pushing their inimitably dark sound forward with a provocative sense of pervading doom and metallic blues power. Highlights include a dramatic reimagination of the Phil Collins classic “In The Air Tonight” as well as “Black Wedding,” of which Brink shares the mic with legendary Judas Priest frontman Rob Halford. In This Moment made a stunning Top 10 chart debut with 2015’s acclaimed album BLACK WIDOW. The album arrived at #8 on the Billboard Top 200 chart and at #3 on Billboard’s “Hard Rock Albums” marking their highest chart placement to date. Furthermore, the title track off In This Moment’s 2012 album, BLOOD, has been certified gold by the RIAA and its companion music video has been viewed over 27 million times.

“We are very excited to be a part of the Loudwire Music Awards this year,” adds Maria Brink of In This Moment. “We have a big surprise in store for everyone watching! Get ready for the Black Wedding!”

Among the bands performing are ANTHRAX, HALESTORM, ICE-T’s BODYCOUNT, NOTHING MORE, STARSET and POWER TRIP, with special performances by MEGADETH’s Dave Mustaine, JUDAS PRIEST’s Rob Halford and HATEBREED’s Jamey Jasta.

In addition, BLACK SABBATH icon Tony Iommi, VAN HALEN legend Sammy Hagar and the aforementioned ROB HALFORD will receive special honors at the event, which will be hosted by WWE superstar CHRIS JERICHO. Jason Kui

Renowned Hong-Kong based fusion guitarist/composer JASON KUI – who combines modern metal, hard rock, funk and ballad influences while integrating rock lead techniques and compelling melodies – will release his diverse debut album, Absence of Words, for the first time outside of Hong Kong this Friday, October 13, 2017 via Prosthetic Records. Absence of Words is available for pre-order here:

Today, as a special gift to fans, Kui is streaming his entire new album via YouTube four days early!

Kui says: “Getting signed by Prosthetic is quite unbelievable. It has been my ambition for years to be signed by an American label. I hope this will lead a tour and performing in the US! I can’t wait for everyone to experience my album.”

Outside of his solo work, JASON KUI performs as a session and touring guitarist who has worked with many well-known artists throughout Hong Kong and China, and credits iconic guitarists Eddie Van Halen, John Petrucci and Andy Timmons as major influencers. Kui started his career as a sideman at the age of 23, and has played countless shows at the Coliseum, Hong Kong’s largest venue which seats 12,500. He recently finished a two-year world tour as lead guitarist for Eason Chan, the legendary Hong Kongsinger. The 135-show tour included venues in China, Southeast Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and the USA, including Madison Square Garden. The two finale shows were performed at Beijing’s Bird’s Nest Olympic Stadium to sellout crowds totaling 100,000 people.

Kui’s new album, Absence of Words, was mixed and mastered in New York by Matthew Sim at Germano Studios and Alex Psaroudakis at Sterling Sound and features several other guest musicians, including one of the most in-demand bassists in Hong Kong, Chan Siu Kei, as well as American modern metal drum virtuoso, Anup Sastry. Sastry played on all the tracks on the album and his unique, modern sound and incredible techniques are recognizable in every song.

Moving On

Please meet LEXIS, a young star in the making.

With her stunning voice, an alluring style and evident talent for penning as well as producing a great song, ‘Back to the start’ is set to be the start of a journey bound for the stars.

She takes her name from a derivative of the Greek word, ‘Lexicon’ meaning ‘of, or for words’, which holds relevance for the otherwise known West Midlands born singer-songwriter Kimya Tarr.

Born to Persian parents in Solihull in the 80’s, she grew up listening to a broad variety of music. LEXIS explains, “My childhood was surrounded by music, playing classical piano and guitar and raiding my parent’s vinyl collection, listening to bands like Queen, The Carpenters and Fleetwood Mac, not forgetting the Persian music. I later got into indie bands like Oasis and Muse.”

Her latest single ‘Back to the start’ is a unique blend of alternative pop with an East meets West sound, drawn from her heritage and early influences, essentially coming under the umbrella of ‘great music’.

LEXIS further explains, “’Back to the start’ truly represents me as an artist in terms of its honesty, message and sound. It’s the type of record I always dreamt of producing. I’d say the track is a blend of alt-pop with Persian sprinkles! It has a 1970’s vintage style production with a band sound, drawing on my early influences and it’s been recorded in 432 Hz tuning to make it feel even more vintage. For the guitar recording, I had some help from old friends who have played for the likes of George Ezra, and you can hear a Persian Ney (a type of flute) straight into the song. The other tracks for the EP have a similar style.”

LEXIS was destined at one point to be a doctor, having finished her medical training in Birmingham, however after winning a songwriting award judged by KT Tunstall and attracting A&R executives from Island Records and Warner Music, she enrolled at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance in London.

Valerie June

Memphis singer-songwriter Valerie June will set out on a 19-date headlining run in February 2018. Tickets for the ‘Astral Plane Tour’ go on sale on October 29th at 10am local time. The soft-seater tour will see June performing special rooms including a night at the Carnegie Hall Concert series in New York, the legendary Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Toronto, and a special collaboration with the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.

Next month, June will bring her smoking stage presence to Austin City Limits. She will perform both weekends on Oct 6th and Oct 13th at 2:30pm on the Tito’s Vodka Stage. “Watching her songs come to life on stage is like watching Dolly Parton, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, and David Bowie perform together through one woman,” CMT recently asserted in a live review. This fall June will make appearances in Australia, Japan, Hawaii, and across the west coast of the US. Full tour dates below.

Jill Soloway, creator of hit TV show Transparent, included Valerie among Neil Young and Bob Dylan in a playlist curated for Paste Magazine. Hear 2 of June’s tracks in the new season of Transparent streaming now via Amazon Prime.

June released a digital EP titled LIVE at KCRW on September 8, 2017. The genuine and candid session features 7 tracks and an interview. The sessions perfectly capture June’s soulful energy with her full band performing raw stripped down versions of her unique compositions. Stream the live session via Spotify, Apple Music, and GooglePlay now.

Black Mare

Amidst a backdrop of political strife wherein such fundamental principles as the health, safety, and common decency toward women continue to erode more with each executive order and Twitter fit, the spirit of BLACK MARE stands unbridled under the singular vision and limitless purview of its driving force, one Sera Timms.

Death Magick Mother is the second proper full length album from Los Angeles, California’s BLACK MARE. Seven songs in length, this documentation captures Timms amidst a dynamic cohesion and confluence of inspiration unlike any prior. Whereas previous output operated under a founding principle of rhythmic repetition and atmospheric simplicity toward trace-like escapism, Death Magick Mother is Timms stepping right in front of the lens for a closeup. Mixed by Andrew Clinco of Drab Majesty and mastered by Dan Randall at Mammoth Sound Mastering, bolder arrangements lend themselves toward soaring, dynamic vocal melodies and nuanced harmonization to highly-satisfying effect. Spot-on performances and command of all instrumentation across the spectrum further propels the sense of arrival in mastery over her chosen craft. In many ways, this album is an awakening for both its creator and listeners alike.

In their Pick Of The Week, Meat Mead Metal writes, “Timms has had an extensive career with bands including Black Math Horseman and Ides Of Gemini, but Death Magick Mother is her most striking, from-the-bloody-heart recording of her life. She is not letting anyone steamroll her or others, and she is using BLACK MARE as a means of protest and warning. This is a moving, shadowy record that not only sounds amazing but should have like-minded people rising up and fighting alongside her.” Toilet Ov Hell, likens Death Magick Mother to an “endless funeral procession stopping traffic, breaking up the monotony of a rainy Thursday in February,” while Ave Noctum gushes, “the vocals soar over the instrumentals, with Sera’s voice a force of nature amidst bold arrangements that are propelled by crisp production quality. The harmonies feel both fragile and powerful, almost spectral in places, densely layered against ringing guitar chords and slow, steady, funereal percussion. The dynamics of this record feel very carefully considered, and give the impression that creating this album was an extremely cathartic process. It gives the illusion of something much larger than itself.”

Elsewhere the sentiment echoes. Cvlt Nation writes, “Death Magick Mother embodies the power of music to create, effect and destroy, and is a stunning sophomore release and a must have in your record collection,” furthering, “Listening to Timms’ ethereal voice on ‘Ingress To Form,’ it’s no surprise that BLACK MARE was invited to perform at the recent Women’s Mass benefit hosted by The Satanic Temple – there is an electric atmosphere to her music that makes my hairs stand on end and my skin break out in goose bumps, as if she’s harnessing the electromagnetic waves traversing the earth with her voice and directing them with purpose at our self-harming species.” Drunk In A Graveyard concurs, “It is wild, delicate, feminine, and oddly brutal. It is stark and lonely. It is every wave crashing inside my heart, every wild impulse.” Adds Echoing Magazine, “Death Magick Mother is a sonic form of ethereal darkness with pained expressions of minor-key somberness, all brought together by guitars and melodies that seamlessly traverse clean and shimmering tones with moments of distorted anger.”

John Carroll Kirby

Imagine the worlds beyond your horizon. Detach and reflect, escape and return, let go and let in – Travel.

Producer, composer and keyboardist John Carroll Kirby spins his tales of Travel on his debut full-length available on Outside Insight October 27th.

Conceived in Tokyo and written primarily in Lamanii, Belize, Kirby’s compositions are a multiverse of synths and rhythms, moods and wonderment.

Hear it in the undulating, calming waves of saxophone on “Essaouira”, the gentle splash heard on the shores of the coastal Moroccan city. Feel the excitement, the energy, the heat in “Poroy Station”, riding the train to Machu Picchu. Let yourself unravel with “Socotra”, stumbling upon the alien Dragon Blood Trees the iconic Yemen island. Let the warmth of colors & breath bathe you on “Kailashananda”.

Kirby channels the eccentric funk of Harry Honsono & Yellow Magic Orchestra with small touches of Jon Hassell’s Fourth World. He describes his music as the 3rd Generation Exotica, whimsical and vibrant like the genres pioneer Martin Deny.

Although Travel represents Kirby’s debut as a solo artist, the Los Angeles musician has had his fingerprints on memorable records along the way. Kirby co-produced “Junie” with Raphael Saadiq and Solange, and a few other songs on Solange’s A Seat At The Table (full credits via The FADER here). You can also hear him playing keys // synths throughout the record, including album standout “Cranes In The Sky”. Kirby’s credited on Shabazz Palaces’ latest Quazarz vs. The Jealous Machines, performed in Blood Orange and Connan Mockasin, and collaborates regularly with Sébastien Tellier, who had this to say of Travel:

“This music has the shape of a savage animal and the taste of love”

Travel is a central theme to Outside Insight’s credo of gaining deeper understanding of the self through detachment of the self. The challenges to get by in a new land, the need to find comfort in the uncomfortable, the strength to build new bridges to understanding by breaking your homey habits – these stretches to the periphery test the boundaries of one’s patience, tolerance and open-mindedness, ultimately pushing us further into growth and a deeper understanding & respect of the self and others.

Leaving as one and returning as another – Travel.

Lone Kodiak

Long before East LA’s newest indie power trio became Lone Kodiak, singer/guitarist Dainéal Parker and bassist Daniel Alden were in a Portland band called Emberghost. Having risen to the upper ranks of a crowded PDX “post-hardcore” scene with their aggressive mix of anger and sorrow, Emberghost reliably sold out large venues like The Roseland and earned itself a trip to NYC to meet with Sony Music. It was around this time that their co-vocalist, the extraordinarily talented Sarah Jennings, was diagnosed with an inoperable brain tumor. Sadly, she would not recover.

The backstory is important here, because though Lone Kodiak is a young band, the music conveys a rich history, littered with difficult, sometimes devastating memories and profound experiences alluded to in a reflective, nostalgic tone. There was some reluctance to start again from the beginning – are we really going to put ourselves through all that again? Anyone who’s done it knows it takes a lot of effort, a lot of patience, a lot of rejection, and a lot of vulnerability to become something from nothing. But once they picked up drummer Andrew Smith, who injected a kind of energy into the music they weren’t expecting, they decided that if they were going to do it at all, they were going to really do it.

And they have ..

Rising Appalachia

This past Friday, sister-led roots band Rising Appalachia premiered the full stream of their new LP, Alive, via PopMatters who noted “The 11 performances presented on Alive are nothing short of raw, unfiltered perfection.”

“Progressive Appalachian Groove” – NPR

“The harmonious singing and instrumentation between sisters Leah and Chloe Smith paired with old-time lyrics feel like a step back, then forward.” – Paste

“…a great example of what can happen when the boundaries of genre and style are ignored, and raw creativity is allowed to take control.” – No Depression

New York-based Gladshot shares their new track “Simulation” via PopMatters. The single is from their forthcoming new album, These Are Vitamins, which is out October 27th. The band also announces a string of US tour dates, including a release show in NYC at Trans-Pecos on October 28th. You can find full dates listed below:

10/28 – Trans Pecos w Mail the Horse, Bluffing, Purples – NYC
10/29 – Velvet Lounge w Purples, East Ghost, VVOVVEE – Washington DC
10/30 – Metro Gallery w Purples, Matt Pless, Leo & Cygnus – Baltimore
12/12 – Cafe Nine w Ports of Spain – New Haven
12/19 – O’Brien’s Pub w The Susan Constant – Boston

Considering they’ve already worked on everything from a “dystopian rock musical” (Barcode) to songs that scored TV shows on TNT, ABC and MTV – and after wrapping up a live set on WFMU’s Goddamn Dave Hill show where they lit up Dave’s message board and then went on to headline a sold out NYC show – it probably shouldn’t come as a surprise that Debbie Andrews and Mike Blaxill are at the peak of their creative powers on the new Gladshot album These Are Vitamins. Due out October 27th via the group’s own DIY imprint, it’s their second effort with super producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Kurt Vile, Waxahatchee) and the first to feature bassist Jesse Murphy alongside drummer Tony Mason and guitarist Tim Bright.

“We’re so happy with the way they sound on the record,” explains Gladshot’s core duo. “Jesse came out of the Nublu world music scene and plays with Brazilian Girls. Tony never does the song the exact same way twice—which we love—and has played with Norah Jones and Leo Nocentelli of The Meters. Tim’s a self-proclaimed ‘sonic explorer and music ninja nerd’; one of the sounds he used on the record is from a trip to China where he went in search of the most out-there effect box he could find.” (See: the hologram-dodging hooks and robust, psych-steeped riffs of “Simulation”.)

All three of ‘em will join Gladshot on the road this fall, adding to the push-and-pull dynamics Mike and Debb perfected on their last EP, Maxwell’s Cool Demon. It’s something they’ve been working on ever since the two met at a songwriter collective that performed and critiqued one another’s songs. At the time, Mike and his propulsive guitar were on more of a roots-rock tip, and Debb pulled in pop influences and the serious jazz skills that earned her a National Endowment for the Arts nod and lessons with the legendary pianist Joanne Brackeen (a session player and live performer for such esteemed musicians as Ornette Coleman, Art Blakey, and Stan Getz).

Now Gladshot can be best described as bold garage band, striking a perfect balance between pop and psychedelic music. Not to mention reflecting such varied influences as the Rolling Stones, Neil Diamond, AC/DC, Crowded House, Marvin Gaye, and the road-tested records of Cherry Glazerr, Langhorne Slim, and Cymbals Eat Guitars.

“We each generate our own musical ideas,” the pair explains, “then we get together to decide what will be a song. Once it’s written, one of Debb’s favorite things is coming up with keyboard parts—cool ones that meld into the song, the way Nicky Hopkins does on ‘Sympathy for the Devil’ or ‘She’s a Rainbow’. They inspire her to keep it all lo-fi and simple.”

And catchy; my how it’s all oh-so-catchy….

Fervor Records

The new TV spot for the soon-to-be-released NBA 2K18 is set to a track off Fervor Records’ incredible compilation, Mid-Century Sounds, which features deep-cuts, b-sides, and never before released material from some of the most noteworthy musicians of the 50s-70s. The commercial features some of the biggest names in the NBA, including D’angelo Russell, Paul George, Karl Anthony-Towns, Joel Embiid, Isaiah Thomas, Damian Lillard, Bill Walton, Demar Derozan, Devin Booker, and Kyrie Irving.

That swingin’ saxy (yes, like the instrument) tune you hear is “Blending Soul” from the 60s R&B group Soul Blenders. You can find the song on Side D of the 2xLP released on Fervor Records earlier this year. The limited edition vinyl, in beautiful gate-cut packaging and on black/white wax, is available for purchase HERE! .

Frida Sundemo

Swedish songstress Frida Sundemo has released the video for her new single ‘Gold’, the latest single to be taken from her highly anticipated international debut album Flashbacks & Futures out on October 6th through leading Scandinavian record label Cosmos Music.

The video pulls directly from the themes of Flashbacks & Futures, a record inspired by space, and features Frida playing a stranded astronaut in a desolate post-apocalyptic landscape.

Regarding the single Frida says, ‘”Gold’ is about being brave and embracing the beauty of life. It’s about having the courage to risk something that’s ”alright” for the chances of getting something you really dream about.”

‘Gold’ follows the release of previous highly acclaimed singles ‘Keep An Eye On Me’, ‘We Are Dreamers’ and ‘It’s OK’, all taken from Flashbacks & Futures.

From the opening Pet Shop Boyish title track right through to the teary, fearful album closer ‘Astronaut’, Flashbacks & Futures is where Hans Zimmer meets Boys Noize.

Explaining the influence of space Frida says, “First of all, I love the way I feel when my mind is set on space. It’s like I enter this place beyond time where you’re free to create whatever you like. I feel that I’m allowed to think and create much bigger than I usually do.”

She continues, “Second, I’m struck by the beauty of it. You’d never need a filter to make a photo of outer space to pop. I’m also in love with all kind of sci-fi movies taking place in space. Everything from 2001: A Space Odyssey to The Martian or Interstellar.”

Elsewhere on the record the pulsating undulations of the anthemic hit-in-the-making ‘Stay Young’ and the arresting sparseness of tracks such as ‘Circles’ and ‘To The End And Back’, further develop the sound that Frida and producer Joel Humlén have been making their own over the past few years.

Frida Sundemo has created a debut of otherworldly beauty and one that is set to meet the expectations for one of the most highly anticipated albums to be coming out of Scandinavia this year.

Ben Frost

BEN FROST has unveiled a new reworking of his track “Ionia” by footwork and IDM prodigy Jlin. Available now on vinyl and download, you can listen to Jlin’s reworking of “Ionia” here.

Frost has also announced details of a performance at London’s Institute of Contemporary Art on October 11 ahead of the release of his fifth studio album, The Centre Cannot Hold, out September 29 on Mute.

In addition, Frost will return to London in the new year, and play a special date for a unique audio-visual performance featuring Marcel Weber (MFO) at Heaven on March 16, part of the Convergence festival series.

The Centre Cannot Hold was recorded over ten days by Steve Albini in Chicago. The music exists not in space, but in a space; it is a document of an event, of a room, and of the composer within it. It is music that is not fully controlled and appears to be anxiously, often violently competing against its creator.

In collaborating with Albini, Frost chooses a new immediacy and raw directness. As an artist whose command of sound design lies at the heart of his practice, by placing himself primarily in the role of live performer and handing the studio recording process over to Albini, Frost continues pursuit of Theseus’ paradox; the question of whether a ship restored by replacing every single part remains the same ship.

Watch the video for “Threshold Of Faith,” the opening cut from the new album. The video is a new collaboration shot in the winter of 2016 in Reykjavík, Iceland with conceptual documentary photographer Richard Mosse and cinematographer Trevor Tweeten. Experience “Threshold of Faith” here.

Ben Frost is currently on tour with MFO (Marcel Weber) for a series of dates that include London’s ICA and Heaven, Club To Club, ADE and Le Guess Who? festivals.

The Fright

German Goth Rock outfit THE FRIGHT are due to release a brand new video for “Bonfire Night” today. More videos and news will follow soon.

Lon Fright comments: “This is our first single from the upcoming album “Canto V”. A dark hymn that sounds like sexual intercourse between THE CULT and ALICE COOPER. If you like it dark and hard rockin’ check it out.”

“Canto V” will be released Friday the 13th of October worldwide via Steamhammer / SPV. It will be available in digital formats only in North America.

The album can pre-ordered

Canto V was produced by Waldemar Sorychta at Dortmund’s ´Waldstreet & Denroad Studios`. “Having produced legendary discs like Wildhoney by Tiamat, Waldemar was my absolute first choice,” explains Lon Fright. “He’s worked with bands like Moonspell, Lacuna Coil and Sentenced, and is a fan of Type O Negative, so he fitted perfectly into our perspective. It’s an honour for us to have him produce our album.”

So on Canto V everything fits together – songs, lyrics, production and album title – a bit like in Dante’s tale – into a complete circle. Lon Fright: “Canto V is famously known as the first real circle of hell. If we don’t open our eyes soon and shake off our fear of all things new, we’re in danger of sinking deeper and deeper into this maelstrom.” Well, THE FRIGHT have taken a first major step out of the vortex.

Jess Cornelius

Jess Cornelius, frontwoman of the acclaimed Melbourne pop band Teeth & Tongue, will release her debut solo EP Nothing Is Lost on October 27 via Dot Dash/Remote Control. The EP is a five-song showcase of Cornelius’ stunning vocals and heartrending songwriting. Cornelius shared the video for the chilling first single “Jealousy” today.

Nylon previously called “Jealousy” “our favorite new fiery pop tune,” while The Fader has praised Teeth & Tongue’s “heady, steamy rock music” and Rolling Stone compared the band to Kate Bush and Chromatics.

Nothing Is Lost is available for pre-order now.

Jess Cornelius is currently on a North American tour in support of Paul Kelly.

To follow the success of “Space,” TK is prepping for the release of his second project, 2.0 due out this fall. Take a look at the “Space” music video below:

Malena Zavala

Argentinian born Malena Zavala honours her South American roots on new single ‘If It Goes’.

The song is an ode to her mothers’ character and acts as a reminder that it’s an intrinsic part of her own.

“The song connects me to my South American roots through my mothers’ Latino feminine character which she passed down to me. That fire is one of my only perceptions of my roots and I had a definite fear of losing that growing up in a different country/ in a different culture. It wouldn’t be me if I lost it.”

‘If It Goes’ follows debut single ‘Should I Try’, a floaty pensive exploration of the fear of failure but with the acceptance that whatever will be will be.

Malena is an artist, producer and film maker. Stephanie Joy

Stephanie Joy has released the video for her first single “Letting Go”, off her solo EP ‘Walk Your Road’ on the Novanglus Records label. “The track “Letting Go” is about giving it all to God. When you’re ready to give up hope, He is the only One who will lead you through whatever you are facing. The Christian life and road are not easy, it is a straight and narrow path and there is no way that we will make it, as we walk this road, without Christ leading us through.” says Stephanie.

“This song is important to me personally because we have all been there…it’s a real world that we live in and we have real problems that we all face. We are either going to have the courage to trust in God to work out all things together for good as scripture says, or we are not going to make it. We have to cast our cares upon Him, let go of reason and doubt, and have faith in the One who will always do that which is right and that which is for our good.”

‘Walk Your Road’ is a 6 song collection of timeless pop contemporary Christian music that speaks to real life situations, and leads all to Christ. “No matter what road you are on, or wherever you are at in your journey, we must all come to the realization that we are in need of a Savior, and that this world will not deliver. We are nothing without Jesus Christ and every song I sing is birthed out of testimony and will speak directly to the heart of the hearer.”

Stephanie Joy leads a very busy life, as a wife, and mother of 4 wonderful boys, while managing a major ministry, and taking on many administrative tasks. Stephanie Joy is the “Big Voice” that brings a refreshing sound to Christian music that is truly unforgettable and powerful. “I want both young and old to find Jesus Christ. I was put on this earth for God’s glory and to lead people to Him. If my music helps me do that, then I have accomplished my purpose.”

Finnish pop powerhouse ALMA has released the lyric video for her brand-new single “Phases” [feat. French Montana]. Since it’s release just last week, the song has already received over 2 million streams on Spotify alone and buzzed about as one to watch by Entertainment Weekly, Just Jared, Idolator, OUT, XXL and more.

The new song was co- written by Charli XCX and produced by Charlie Handsome [Drake, Mac Miller], the track pairs Finland’s biggest voice with Morocco’s biggest rapper. Earlier this year, ALMA became an international phenomenon. With her debut single “Chasing Highs” and EP Dye My Hair, the sonic superheroine has generated 150 million-plus cumulative Spotify streams.

ALMA, a 21-year old Finnish powerhouse with bright neon green hair, and a voice that could demolish buildings, is preparing for a worldwide takeover. Since the release of her first EP, Dye My Hair, ALMA has generated over 150 million combined Spotify streams. Along the way, she earned “Best Newcomer” and “Best Export” at Finland’s answer to the GRAMMYs the EMMAs and high praise from tastemakers such as Annie Mac, Grimmy and MistaJam via Interview, Teen Vogue, Nylon, VICE Noisey, Dazed, i-D, and the Rocket Man himself, Elton John.

Earlier this year, ALMA released the much buzzed about, “Chasing Highs,” which is now over 55 million streams on Spotify. “Chasing Highs” has seen her become a mainstay on UK radio playlists and top iTunes singles charts in territories around the world. ALMA remains hard at work on her international full-length debut in the studio alongside heavy hitters such as MNEK, Charli XCX, Rudimental, Two Inch Punch, Gorgon City, and Sub Focus to name a few. Paving the way for the upcoming album, she has released “Phases” featuring French Montana—her latest epic smash

Artist and producer duo Grey have released their debut EP “Chameleon” today. The five track EP, see full track listing below, includes their latest single, ‘Crime’ feat. Skott, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Dance/Electronic charts and has been streamed over 2 million times. “Chameleon” is the duo’s first body of work released since the renowned success of their platinum-certified hit, “Starving,” in collaboration with Zedd and Hailee Steinfeld, and their first official single “I Miss You” feat. Bahari, released earlier this year. “Creatively, it was refreshing to let loose, be ourselves, and just go crazy with all the ideas we had bouncing around in our heads once we got in the studio,” Grey says, “our earlier work was more electronic with hints of acoustic layers, but with “Chameleon,” we flipped that balance and then expanded on it. We incorporated not only more guitar, but also cinematic-like string and horn sections throughout that give the whole EP incredible texture.”

With the balance flipped, Grey smoothly traverse a fluid musical universe with ease and finesse, shape-shifting from its urgent beginning through to its gripping end. The title track, “Chameleon,” is an expressive take on superficiality with a matrix of filtered guitars and synthed-out bleeps. “Wings Clipped” is driven by aggressive guitars shredding over distorted vocal samples and full-on rocking drums featuring special guest vocals from Grammy Award-nominated artist Avril Lavigne and post-hardcore hero Anthony Green, lead singer of Circa Survive and Saosin. Elsewhere, “Room 101,” takes a solemn turn through a beautiful cascade of piano balladry before launching into a passionate breakdown of synths and longing vocals. Closing out the EP, “These Roots,” featuring Stephen, mixes gracefully warped piano chords and playful guitar work.

Grey, comprised of brothers Kyle and Michael Trewartha, kicks off their first tour in support of Zedd on his North American ECHO Tour in Vancouver tonight. Grey’s live shows have become known for being “downright electrifying” (EARMILK) and “bringing a little extra to the table” (Billboard) as they did in their New York City debut at Electric Zoo 2017. The ECHO Tour will bring Grey to San Francisco, Chicago, Boston, Washington DC and more.

Butch Parnell

Today, alt-Americana singer-songwriter, Butch Parnell, announced details for this latest EP, The Fall, which has been set for release on November 17th, 2017. The Fall is a 6-track collection of soulful, emotionally-driven, and slightly twangy tunes that will appeal to fans of artists like The Lemonheads, Brandi Carlile, or The Lone Bellow. Butch Parnell describes the EP as, “…a familiar story of love and loss that I’ve tried to tell as simply and without pretense as I can.” Along with today’s announcement, Parnell gave fans a sneak-peek by unveiling the debut track off the record, “Give Me A Reason,” a simple lullaby-style song about the chaos and fear within unrequited love. Butch Parnell explains further:

“It’s kind of a classic ‘boy meets girl who is great for him, but boy is not mature enough to handle an actual functioning relationship so he runs off into the night back to the chaos of people and temptation that is not good for him.’ This song was written as a plea for the girl to come after the boy and convince him to stay. But, the girl understands that the boy is just a self-conscious teenager caught in an adult body and doesn’t.” – Butch Parnell

Dave Parnell, under the moniker Butch Parnell, is a singer-songwriter living in Brooklyn, NY after relocating to pursue a career in music from his hometown in rural North Carolina. Flying to Springfield, MO in 2007 to record his debut album The Arc, under the name Runaway Dorothy, Parnell received rave reviews and grabbed the attention of musical royalty such as the Counting Crow’s Adam Duritz and Rosanne Cash. The next few years saw Parnell touring in support of the album and playing festivals like SXSW and CMJ multiple times. In 2014, after signing a one-album deal with Rock Ridge Music, Parnell released the second Runaway Dorothy album, The Wait. In 2015 Parnell quietly again starting writing and recording songs, unsure if there would be another ‘Runaway Dorothy’ album, he decided that he was just going to release his new music using his father’s name Butch Parnell. With Dorothy being his mother’s name, Parnell thought it was only fair to pay homage to his father with his new moniker.

Wanting his fans to hear his music sooner, rather than having to wait for a full album, Butch Parnell began releasing a slew of EPs and singles which include The Brightness EP(2015), The Shatter EP(2016), The 3rd EP(2017), and his latest single “Great” (2017). Parnell is now gearing up to release his newest EP The Fall, which was self-produced at Alley Byrd Studio.

Elijah Blake

The lead single “Technicolor” with accompanying visuals, is paving the way for the R&B, funk and pop-infused project ‘Audiology’, the sophomore release from singer/songwriter Elijah Blake. The artist bares it all in this 14-track set, issued via Steel Wool Entertainment/Empire, and signals Blake as coming full circle with his return to the independent ranks. Today (Sept. 27), Blake premieres his new video for “Technicolor,” on Billboard where he salutes a slew of iconic visuals from the ’80s from Janet Jackson’s “Rhythm Nation” to Bobby Brown’s “Every Little Step”, MJ’s “The Way You Make Me Feel” and Prince’s “When Doves Cry.”

‘Audiology’ is the follow-up to Blake’s critically acclaimed debut album on Def Jam, Shadows & Diamonds. That 2015 set yielded the singer’s top 25 R&B/hip-hop hit “I Just Wanna …” featuring Dej Loaf. Between writing songs for a host of artists including Usher, Rihanna, Trey Songz, Common and, of late, Keyshia Cole and Chris Brown, Blake started building his own fan base as an artist with his 2012 debut mixtape ‘Bijoux 22’. His catalog also includes two EP’s, 2014’s ‘Drift’ and 2016’s ‘Blueberry Vapors’.

If Blake’s name isn’t immediately recognizable, chances are his songs are. Signed to his first record deal at age 16, his writing credits include Rihanna’s “No Love Allowed,” Justin Bieber’s “I Would” and Usher’s Grammy-winning “Climax.” But after a decade of penning hits for other artists, Blake finally felt prepared to release a solo endeavor drawing from both personal and professional experiences. “I make music for the misfits. I want to continue the legacy of the unorthodox, fearless non-stereotypical black male. I want to be vulnerable, I want to be truthful and I want to be fearless.”

After making his living mostly behind the scenes, the musician is finally ready to embrace solo stardom as an independent artist, if that is what “Audiology” may bring. “It’s leaving a piece of my DNA on each song and getting through to people who I really am. The only thing that scares me now is to not walk in my calling and not walk in my purpose.”

This week LA-based psych folk outfit Historian premiered their new music video for their single “Thrown on the Road” on The Big Takeover who noted the visuals conjure up “…a desert-swept tone poem set against the expanse of the Joshua Tree wilderness.”

“The vocals, which are beset with a kind of wounded yearning, define the complex song with vivid reflections on youth, alienation, and despondence…Behind every tremolo-caked corner and lush sonic fold, Historian’s music flexes its innate cinematic muscles”

Ella Grace

Indie folk artist Ella Grace has announced the release of her brand new single Here We Are Again, telling of a love lost to depression and the journey onward from that space.

Using music to sooth and heal, Ella writes as if the future of this lost love were the present. A story of love in her twenties and the attempt to cope with mental health struggles, heartache, and personal growth at such a young age.

Discussing the inspiration for her music, Ella states: “I think sometimes we have to let go of love, and not always because the love is lost, sometimes it’s because the people in it have lost themselves”.

The bass that underpins the hypnotic soundscape of natural elements takes us on a journey through this relationship; past, present and future. Ella discusses why she believes there is importance to building a unique soundscape around her music.

“It’s really important to me that when we go into the studio to build the track, we build it in-keeping with the energy that the song was written in. In Here We Are Again we used the sounds of birds that we recorded from the wall of the cottage I grew up in, a place I spent a lot of time during this period of my life. There are so many subtle elements in all of my songs that make them meaningful to me, and I have a feeling that people, maybe without even realizing it, are left feeling my music pretty deeply because of this”.

With impressive streaming figures, a large social media following and tour plans in the works, Ella’s prowess in song writing is sure to attract further acclaim in the coming months.

Ella Grace’s new single Here We Are Again is released 6th October and will be available on all platforms.

Matt Cameron

Today, Matt Cameron, Grammy Award winning drummer for Soundgarden and Pearl Jam, released the lyric video to “Time Can’t Wait” – PRESS HERE to watch via Billboard. “Time Can’t Wait” is the first track on his solo LP titled Cavedweller, which was released in full last Friday, September 22.

In his conversation with Billboard on the LP, Matt said, “For me it’s just the basic joy of songwriting, and my whole mission draws out of that. It’s something I’ve done over the years for sure, when I have time between gigs. I was just trying to zero in on each particular track, and I tried to bring each musical and vocal part out as much as I could. That was basically the goal, and that’s what’s so fun about doing my own record was completely making all the decisions myself. Working in these enormous bands I’ve always had to play my role — and lovingly so. I love my role in all my bands. It’s nourishment for me.”

Cavedweller was recorded at Matt’s house, the Bunker Studio in Brooklyn, and the Bait Shop in Seattle. The LP is available for purchase, and the limited edition vinyl is available for pre-order today – PRESS HERE to purchase the Digital LP on iTunes and PRESS HERE to pre-order the vinyl via Pearl Jam’s website. A very limited number of customers will receive a colored vinyl version.

Matt played drums and bass on a select few tracks on the album, sang vocals and wrote and produced the album. Cameron then assembled an all-star cast of friends to bring Cavedweller to life, including Bowie’s ★ drummer Mark Giuliana and the album’s bassist Tim Lefebvre. He also enlisted the help of Alain Johannes on lead guitar for two tracks.

“What I’ve been able to accomplish as a drummer has been phenomenal,” Matt said. “As a musician, I’ve wanted to do more. It’s more of a personal challenge. I’d love for fans to see I have more to offer. Music has always meant the most to me when it’s extremely personal. I still have that passion to connect with this inner desire to create-maybe more than ever.”

Canadian-born pop artist FJØRA has released her debut EP, WATERCOLOR, out today on UNSECRET MUSIC / Tone Tree Music. FJØRA’s goal for this debut was to create an instinctual, visceral, and organic sound emanating from her musical heritage.

“WATERCOLOR is my first EP release, which is why it was important to me that it be reflective of the person I am at this moment in time,” says Alexandra Petkovski (a.k.a FJØRA). “It’s a little weird, a little quirky, dramatic, fun – a bit experimental and an exploration of the kinds of music I love and never thought I could be taken seriously for before. FJØRA means ‘rolling tide’ and having been strongly connected with water my whole life, it just made sense that this first ‘shade’ of music I share be encompassed by its name – combining the two most significant things in my life. Water and color. I am truly appreciative of this chance to now let it leave its nest and find its place in all of this beautiful world!”

The Nashville music scene has played a crucial role in the development of her debut EP. Previous singles “Wild Animals” and “Zodiac” were produced by Bryan Todd (Miley Cyrus, Jordin Sparks) and Josh Hawkins (R.L.U.M.R.) respectively, with Michael McEachern lending his talents to “Shallow.” And “Magic” features contributions from Nashville hitmakers Sam Tinnesz and Jon Santana.

Born and raised in Toronto, Canada, FJØRA (a.k.a. Alexandra Petkovski) began studying music at an early age. Her father, a professional musician, taught her classical piano, which led to improv jazz, and eventually a keen interest in composition and film scoring. Alexandra went on to study music composition, and received a Masters of Commercial Music in Composition and Arranging from Belmont University in Nashville. She is now a NYC resident, attending NYU’s Steinhardt School of Music on a path toward obtaining her PhD in Composition.

“Coming from a really classical and film scoring background, I always felt it was funny how much I enjoyed jamming out to upbeat pop music in my free time,” reflects FJØRA. “I believe that in today’s commercial music world, there doesn’t have to be a divide between creating cinematic compositions and electronic pop music.”

Lean Year

Lean Year’s Emilie Rex lures us deep into a tupelo swamp in their breathtaking new video, “Come and See,” directed by the band’s own Rick Alverson [director of the cult-drama, The Comedy (2012), Entertainment (2015) and music videos for the likes of Sharon Van Etten, Angel Olsen, Oneohtrix Point Never, Strand of Oaks]. NPR debuted the video today describing “Come and See” as a “hushed waltz” with a “far-away intimacy.”

Lean Year’s debut, eponymous album, coming out October 20th on Western Vinyl, often employs visual art as touchstones for the album’s narrative content. The songs hint, both formally and lyrically, at the dysfunctions of contemporary dialogue, the missteps, accidents, and deep-seated patterns that are either embraced, discarded, or broken in an attempt to build a common place in the world. Within this seemingly quiet and universal palate, each new track is a small, knowing departure from the last, a gradation in identity and form.

Lean Year Live Dates:

10/23: Chapel Hill, NC – Cat’s Cradle #

DRMCTHR Album Cover Hi Res

Baltimore alternative pop band DRMCTHR (formerly spelled Dreamcatcher) is thrilled to announce their signing to Darkshore Music Group along with their forthcoming full-length LP, Hold Your Love. Today the band is teaming up with Substream Magazine to premiere the first single off the album, “Apartment.” Containing 11-infectiously catchy tracks that were recorded at Valencia Recording and produced by DRMCTHR & Paul Leavitt, Hold Your Love is set for release on November 17, 2017. As a first-taste of what to expect from the album, “Apartment” is a brooding, heavy song about the trepidation you feel in a relationship. It’s that feeling of doubt, of being unsure if you’re wanted in that way. It’s that split second of fumbling over yourself and being so self-conscious, over-thinking the moment you should jump in. On today’s announcement, vocalist Chelsea Tyler states:

“We are very excited to finally share the first song, ‘Apartment,’ from our debut record with you and to announce our signing with Darkshore Music Group. Hold Your Love is a record that means everything to us and we couldn’t be more grateful to work with a group of people who have embraced this record and put everything they could into it.” – Chelsea Tyler

DRMCTHR has been turning heads with an atmospheric sound that falters the line between indie rock and pop with light-hearted shoegaze instrumentals that create a dreamy ambience. Consisting of Chelsea Tyler (vocals), Bryan Czap (guitar), Craig Perkins (bass), and Billy Wahler (drums), the band made their debut in December 2013 with the release of their first EP, Wonderlust. Produced at Mystery Ton Studios & Valencia Recording by Kenny Eaton, Paul Leavitt, & DRMCTHR, Wonderlust has garnered over 70,000 plays on Spotify. The band soon went on to play a variety of shows, sharing the stage with bands such as Spitalfield, Post Modern, Geoff Rickly, Aaron West & The Roaring Twenties, Rookie of the Year, Modern Chemistry, Owel, and more.

Having faced several challenges since the release of Wonderlust, including member changes and at one point the near end of the band, DRMCTHR is back with a newfound confidence. A change in spelling of the band’s name marks a new era for DRMCTHR as it represents the loss they have experienced, but also a bolder, stronger representation of who they have become. The band has returned with a refined style and sound as they prepare to debut their full-length LP, Hold Your Love. On the record, vocalist Chelsea Tyler states:

“We’ve spent every second of time, every dollar, everything on this record for the past 4 years. We struggled with keeping the band together, wrote with different musicians, went through different versions of the mixes, re-tracked some of the record – basically, everything that could go wrong while making a record did. There were days where we didn’t know if the band would make it, if the record would come out, or if we’d even finish the record. Every step forward would be followed with a road block, and then a few steps back. Every song has a story about the creation of this album. During the creation of this record we lost friendships, bandmates, were in a van accident – again, everything went wrong. But, we persevered and created something that we are so proud of.”

DRMCTHR emerges from the turmoil strong with the new LP, Hold Your Love, and thrilled to share their art with their fans new and old. Head to Substream Magazine today to listen to DRMCTHR’s latest track, “Apartment.” DRMCTHR’s new album Hold Your Love will be available November 17, 2017. Pre-orders will be available September 29, 2017 and fans will get an instant download of “Apartment” with purchase. To stay up to date, be sure to follow the band online.

Million Miles

Million Miles will release her debut EP, Berry Hill on November 3rd. The EP was produced by Robin Eaton and Paul Ebersold and recorded in Nashville, TN. “I wrote ‘Can’t Get Around a Broken Heart’ with Paul Ebersold, who I’d been working with a lot. It was actually the first track I recorded, with Dan Thompson, all live, one take and straight to tape,” said Baudry. “This track really cemented the sound and ignited the beginning of Million Miles.”

Sophie Baudry was raised in Paris and lives in London but was trained at Boston’s famed Berklee College of Music. After returning to London, Baudry kept feeling the pull towards American Soul music- specifically the evocative voices of Ray Charles and Bill Withers. Baudry has a similar signature voice, one that’s amiable and full of melancholy all at once. So she set off for the U.S. to look for inspiration and to write and record in Nashville, TN. After a chance meeting, she headed in to the studio with songwriter/ producers Robin Eaton and Paul Ebersold.

In addition to “Can’t Get Around A Broken Heart,” Million Miles has also released “Ice Cream & Cigarettes,” which shot to the top of the Spotify Viral Chart.

Hurtown, USA

With two releases to his credit, including the acclaimed, Captured Tracks-released LP, Groove!, Jamil Rashad AKA Boulevards is ready to bring his latest vision of modern-funk to the masses. Hurtown, USA is on its way out December 8th, 2017 channeling forbears like Prince, Rick James, and Earth Wind & Fire with Rashad’s unique flair.

From an early age, Rashad’s father, a R&B Radio DJ, exposed him to jazz, blues, and R&B. This pushed him to get involved in the city’s local music scene early on in his youth. In his teens, he embraced the punk and metal scene in his hometown of Raleigh, NC; genres that would later go on to influence Rashad’s songwriting by way of their tight technical precision and power. After an art school education and several stints in local bands, Rashad rediscovered and returned to his first true love: funk.

The expansive new LP from Boulevards is undeniable in its world-building, painting aural portraits of love found on the dancefloor, nights you hope will never end and the adrenaline-stoked in-betweens before the sun comes up. Featuring collaborations with Neon Indian, Laura Reed and more, Rashad has crafted a new, fully formed classic evocative of a funkier Blood Orange’s Freetown Sound.

Jen Cloher

Jen Cloher today shares the video for her anthem “Strong Woman,” the third single off her instant-classic self-titled fourth record.

“Strong Woman” was filmed just weeks ago in a London warehouse during a whirlwind sold-out tour of the UK and Europe. The video is the result of a back-to-basics approach – a two-camera crew captured Cloher and her incredible band blitzing through one of the album’s highlights. The result is raw and dynamic, and goes some way to capturing Cloher’s dynamism on stage.

The song itself serves as an exploration of gendered identity in Cloher’s childhood in 1980’s Adelaide and a celebration of Cloher’s unique matriarchal heritage.

Cloher explained the inspiration behind the song:

It recently occurred to me that I have always been a leader, a strong woman. It’s not a quality that was cultivated but something I inherited. My matriarchal line is Ngapuhi, a Maori tribe from the Far North of New Zealand. There’s a famous Maori saying, ‘Kia kaha’ which means ‘Stay strong’, my Mother Dorothy modelled that quality to me growing up and I’m forever grateful that she did.

Recorded amidst the rolling greenery of Gippsland, Victoria and mixed at Jeff Tweedy’s famous Loft Studios in Chicago, the songs are split by Courtney Barnett’s extraordinary lead guitar and anchored by the rhythm section of Bones Sloane and Jen Sholakis. The end result is bold, assured, and piercingly observed, seeing Cloher face up to painful truths with unwavering honesty and emerge triumphant. An imperial showcase of song-writing craft which is likely to sit on the top of many end-of-year lists.

Cloher is currently touring solo around the USA opening for Courtney Barnett & Kurt Vile’s Lotta Sea Lice tour. She today announced that she’ll return in January 2018, this time with her full band playing a run of intimate headline shows.

Nick Hakim

Nick Hakim just released the latest video from his widely acclaimed debut full-length album Green Twins (ATO Records). The “powerful and Intense” video (The FADER) for “Cuffed” was directed by Daniel Kaufman and re imagines the Santeria rituals of the Venezuelan Maria Lionza cult. Throughout the video, the fierceness and devotion of the participants increases with the intensity of the song. Filmed in the Catskills, NY, “Cuffed” also features experimental performance artists FlucT.

“I was listening to the song and stumbled upon Cristina Garcia Rodero’s photos of the Maria Lionza pilgrimage. I’ve been interested in Santeria rituals since filming with some voodoo practitioners in Haiti years ago, so the photos really resonated for me and seemed to both play with and be an interesting counter point to the song,” Kaufman tells The FADER. “I also knew it wasn’t enough–and wouldn’t be appropriate-to simply ape or appropriate the imagery. I knew we had to focus on the aesthetic/emotional kernel within those photos but make it our own… we wanted to make something simple–a space where we could create real rules for our own ritual about renewal, and then document it.”

Hakim notes, “My favorite part of this process was getting to know everyone else in the couple days we spent working on this video: in one day all of us connected with one another and found trust within one another. It was truly therapeutic. The land we were on was extremely beautiful. I feel blessed to have worked with such talented and amazing artists.”

“For me, the video is about a violent expulsion of negativity–because catharsis is always violent, Kaufman adds. “I’d like people to feel that odd mix of disbelief, confusion, aversion, and perverse joy.”

Green Twins (ATO Records) was released earlier this year to wide critical praise and, this summer, album track “Needy Bees” was featured in a steamy closing scene of HBO’s Insecure. Hakim recently kicked off his North American headline tour at a sold out show at New York City’s Music Hall of Williamsburg. He’s also announced new winter tour dates supporting Fleet Foxes in Europe, and additional dates with Bonobo. See all tour dates below and get a peek at his live show via his recent ‘Pitchfork Live’ session:

Hakim’s debut comes at the culmination of years chiseling his skills as a musician, and saw him featured by the likes of The FADER, Stereogum, Remezcla, NYLON, Latino USA, Paste Magazine, Under The Radar and more. In addition to making the mid-year lists from Complex and Pitchfork, Green Twins has also been named one of the “Best Albums of the Year (So Far)” by Under the Radar,NPR Music’s readers named Hakim one of “Your Favorite New Artists Of 2017 (So Far)” and NME named the track “Green Twins” one of their “Best Songs Of 2017 So Far.”

Hailing from Washington, D.C., he grew up in a musical household-his older brother introduced him to bands like Bad Brains and Nirvana, and his parents exposed him to Nueva canción-while he set out on his own to discover the DC music scene. He didn’t take an interest in learning an instrument until high school, when he taught himself to play the keys. After graduation, he moved to Boston to continue his study of music. In the time since moving to Brooklyn and setting to work for three years on Green Twins, he embraced the live circuit, both as a solo musician and with his band, whom he’s brought together from within his community in Boston and New York.
