Setting out an early 2015 goal to get some international travel stamps on my passport in the name of music, I accepted the invite to head north of the border for 2015’s Canadian Music Week. As a writer who feels it’s crucial to see artist performances frequently and get out of my comfort zone to explore new music scenes in different cities, CMW in T-Dot was a must. Armed with the successes and failures of my two SXSW chaotic experiences, I knew jamming 1000+ bands and events into a packed schedule newly expanded five more days, required a mix of planning and flexibility when shows fill to capacity. When this happens, frustration builds as media wristbands and fest badges alike prove futile.

Fortunately I did not experience this throughout the week as I made a conscious effort to seek out bands and acts I might not see often in Cali and enjoyed seeing the following acts all over the city:

Sunday- May 3rd- Rebel Coast and ElevenPastOne at Revival, The Visionary X, DJ FeelGoodSmalls, Johnny Active, and Philly Moves at Parts and Labour

Tuesday- May 5th- Toronto Women in Music Showcase- Megan Bonnell, The Wayo, Programm and The Dirty Frigs at The Garrison

Wednesday-May 6th- Family of The Year and Xavier Rudd and the United Nations at The Opera House

Thursday- May 7th- Rival Sons at The Phoenix Concert Theatre

Friday- May 8th- Pop Montreal/Next @ CMW Showcase- Goodbye Honolulu, Pigeon Phat and Together Pangea at Silver Dollar

On Friday, I heard manager and entrepreneur Johnny Wright (who all 90’s New Kids On The Block, BSB and N’Sync lovers should know) speak about his career and offer advice to the audience of musicians and professionals. While at CMW Headquarters,I also got a chance to connect with Cafeine, Ivory Tours, Jordan Lèser and Midday Swim (watch for those interviews soon). Capping off my CMW, on Saturday night, I attended the 15th Annual SiriusXM Indies Awards which featured performances by Miracles, Broncho, Alvvays, The Glorious Sons and Billy Talent. Below is a list of the winners:
