Review: Catch A Fire Tour at The Greek Theatre

3350 Last night, the Greek Theatre got scorched as the Catch A Fire tour passed through LA. On a frenzied night, where many clogged Griffith Park streets and sidewalks, ensnarling them in traffic to view the Blood Supermoon, the crowd’s energy hung in the electric hot night air. Put together to celebrate Bob Marley’s 70th birthday, a loaded lineup minus Barrington Levy brought out reggae lovers from near and far to see Tarrus Riley, Jo Mersa (Stephen’s son and Bob’s grandson), Morgan Heritage, Super Cat, and Grammy winners Stephen and Damian Jr. Gong Marley. Whining, jumping and flag waving all got the crowd hype as I also partook and danced in the photo pit. There’s no doubt Kingston, Jamaica, 420, “One Love” and Rastafarians praising Jah repped.

Highlights included Super Cat performing “Dolly My Baby” and “Ghetto Red Hot”, Stephen Marley mixing in a few covers of his father Bob like “Is This Love into his set and Damian Jr. Gong performing new songs giving props to Ghetto Youths International. Bob would have been proud as reggae’s past, present and future sounds filled the canyon.
