Sleep deprived and my head still swimming with all the live music heard, it’s time to recap my SXSW 2015. Covering the entire week of music, I landed in Austin with an airplane full of fans, artists and music biz elite, ready to conquer this fest for the second year in a row. Attempting to approach the week in a more organized fashion, I kept my schedule flexible (there were 2,200 artists there and saw several lugging instruments in the streets) from hour to hour (with the goal of not being overwhelmed and feeling like I’m missing out on 10 mill things going on at the same time). RSVPster, Eventbrite, #SXLines, #SXSWFreeNoms and SXSWhoa all became my virtual BFFs, giving me backup options and provided up to date info that guided my experience.

Attending the Media Temple SXSWi Closing Party on Tuesday night at Stubbs served as the perfect way to kick off my SXSW experience. Held by a company that provides tools for website developers, I obtained VIP access that included a lounge with free food and drinks and vibed to TV On The Radio, Z-Trip (who threw in House of Pain’s “Jump Around” as a nod to St. Patty’s Day) and Ludacris (who ran through his catalog of hits and who’s promo team equipped the audience with thundersticks and cardboard cutouts of his face). I next spent my late Wednesday and Thursday afternoons viewing Fader Fort artists across the way like Bully, Stromae, BadBadNotGood with Ghostface Killah (with surprise guest Raekwon) and Bleachers.

Waiting until the last possible minute to decide how to spend my nights, I initially tried to see Hiatus Kaiyote (bummed I struck out twice as badges and wristband holders were turned away on two nights) but instead headed to Flood Fest and SXAméricas at North Door. First stopping by North Door to check out Enjambre, Disco Las Palmeras and La Sabrosura Dura, I then posted up at Cedar St. Courtyard on Flood Fest’s Day 2 and 3 and caught Metz, Fashawn, Until The Ribbon Breaks and Run The Jewels (who brought their usual hyped energy to the party minus being attacked by a random dude).

In between show attending and livestreaming the sets occurring at Pandora’s Discovery Den and Austin Party Weekend (yes, I multi-tasked and listened to Wyclef, Bames, The Deslondes and Big Data with Joywave),I also had some dope convos with Black Alley, Keeper, Obey City, Butcher Brown, Rangelklods, Shaprece, Jack Ladder, Twin Danger, Hoodstarz, Hiatus Kaiyote, Sadat X and K.Flay. Peep those interviews going live soon!
