Italy’s best kept secret no more, AT THE SOUNDAWN play a unique and unfettered style of music that can only be described as beautiful, crushing and ethereal. Formed in 2000, AT THE SOUNDAWN have been crafting their newest effort and Lifeforce debut “RED SQUARE : We Come In Waves” since 2005. With “RED SQUARE : We Come In Waves,” AT THE SOUNDAWN effortlessly commands the sounds of Mogwai and Tool while combining them with the hardcore urgency of Shai Hulud and the dynamic indie rock power of Radiohead. The musical output created is poised to impress and leave the listener asking for nothing more. “RED SQUARE : We Come In Waves” was produced by Riccardo Pasini at Studio 73, best known for his work with the underground and metallic Italian acts Ephel Duath, The Secret and Sl...

Typically we like to get your weekend kicked off with our favorite single video from the past week. This week however we're double dippin' thanks to a recommendation from the "high commander" and my own pick, inspired by an unbridled need for violence. First up, the boss's suggestion: Weezer's"Troublemaker":
Secondly, from Gojira, the video for the only good song on their latest album The Way of All Flesh, "Vacuity":
Have a great weekend!
I found this article on Yahoo Music to be quite entertaining. It demonstrates that most musicians are Democrats at heart. All 10 songs listed here were used by a Republican campaign. This is all after the Foo Fighters have recently decried John McCain's use of "My Hero". Other artists include John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Heart, and many others.
Yes, I'm Canadian but I'm watching this election more than our own election coming up on October 14. I'm sure I'm not alone in my sincere passion that the Republican's don't get in again but then it's not up to me, is it. Here is the link to the full list of songs, with some wonderful rhetoric to go along with it:
Deep Elm's owner John Szuch and Deep Elm Records are raising money for Cystic Fibrosis, a chronic disease that affect 70,000 people worldwide. Their goal is just $1,000. As I was searching the local listings for live music here in Calgary I came across this humorous listing. Glass Tiger is coming to town. That in itself is not the humor. That is scary but there are tons of old 80s bands reuniting for the money and sheer fun aspect. The humor is the $135 ticket price! You heard me right. $135 PLUS SERVICE CHARGES!
At the dusk of every week, we here at ME try to get your weekend started off proper. To do that we provide you with the week's best video every Friday afternoon in the hopes that some visual stimulation set to varying aural stylings will give you the necessary boost to propel you from your slave labor meaningful jobs and into the glory of American independence. Here to serve you today: Rise Against's latest video for their new singe "Re-Education (Through Labor)". Please enjoy.
I won't write much about the signing but will point you over to Thursday's website so you can read why the band is so excited about the prospect of working with a label instead of for a label. As you know they've had some major issues with labels in the past so hopefully this new relationship will foster this band, who I believe has yet to unleash it's full potential.
My God, I think I've got it. First, I'll choose one randomly chosen political/lol video I found on Youtube. Then I'll rep some awesome video for some song I love and then you will all leave comments and stuff. Awesome.
The Best Stephen Colbert Clip In The History of Ever
I've had some pretty grandiose plans in the staff forum concerning what I'd do with this column I kind of want to setup. Then I put it on the backburner because I was moving then I put the backburner on another, much deeper backburner because the semester started, and eventually here we are. About, what, two or three months into this little blog and people have put together some 26 mixtapes? I haven't made one post. I'm the most inconsistent reviewer this site has. I like titles, but that isn't a good one. I also like music. While I jest and make fun of Dennis music (he likes Pitchfork-esque bands), it's all fun and games (read: I really am not into those bands but Dennis is good people), I really have no room to talk. I'm a bigger hype machine than hipster Dennis here, as I'm into hype music like crazy. So what are the current vibes I've got off the interweb?
What's Not Good
Anberlin is releasing a new CD and to frank, I wish this band wasn't so terrible, because I'd love to get into them. But the guy's voice is just so damn terrible. I don't understand the phenomena that is this band. After hearing some tracks off this album, the vocals continue to be the opposite of pretty and continue to be something I will never ever purchase.
The Morning Light is also putting out an album, but more importantly, this:
I'm a nitpicker and as I already didn't like this atrocious band, I will now mock their label for allowing fail ads like this to be released. Someone better get fired, stat.
What's Good
The Reign of Kindo is probably the most amazing thing to happen to music this year. I love This Day & Age but if I had known that them breaking up would allow musical beauty like this to emerge, then I would have called for their disbanding years ago. Rhythm, Chord & Melody is one of the best albums to be released this, search the database for this band.
Forgive Durden's creative mastermind Thomas Dutton spent nearly two years devising a plot for a musical and has created what sounds to be another amazing album. Razia's Shadow is wildly inventive and though, it will be strange how it plays out say live, I'd like to see where else this goes. Rumor has it, he is in talks concerning movie rights.
Jack's Mannequin is back with a new album, The Glass Passenger, and it's good. Really good. That's all.
This wasn't as good as I had anticipated. Maybe next week, I'll get political.
