One more thing that the age of the global internet has exposed is the underbelly of the old music industry in the European Union. A new proposal has revealed the industry as a creaky, old patchwork of different states controlling the licensing rights to music in their territories.

So, why are some musicians opposing the legislation? You would think that easy, cross-border availability of their work would gain them access to new fans that would more than compensate for the potential loss of revenue that this piece of legislation would bring. Let's face it, if they've signed on with one of the majors, their "revenue" will be small to begin with.

Makes the situation of the availability of certain groups/artists between the US and Canada seem trivial.

she didnt want this, but neither did i

i dont want this broken feeling

all the while hearts pushing teens into the street

replace my hurt and pain

with allegories and unfortunate defeat

so for now take you name and face off the clouds, music, and cracks on my wall

she didnt want to she had to.

#2

 Close your eyes change yourself

pretend to be whoever it is you need to be to get out of this place

just leave me behind in the shitty

i liked you more when you didnt know who you were

so find yourself and lose who you hated being, who i loved seeing

just pretend to be who you need and get the hell out of my city

try texas; austin, dallas

cause when you were finding yourself you lost me

such a pity in this lonesome city

You can include Tig Wired among Canada's unique properties, an amalgam of alternative rock, country, blues, and jazz that shouldn't make sense at all. Tig Wired's new album, Ne Obliviscaris, is a homage to the blue collar working class. Colin and Chris Campbell provide insight on one of the most original projects in the music scene

Grey Matters

it was one of those grey foggy days

a black rainy night

i cant sleep with these sins

i cant sleep with this fright

so i bleed out these thoughts

they make it all seem right

you said it'd last forever but forever is done

now there is a kid in the street i think ill call him my son

i told him never believe forever because forever is done

and where you left me is all on my own

but please dont leave me im not even grown

just dont say this is forever

cause i dont know how to run

there is a gun to my head please dont pull the trigger

please dont make forever be real

i just want forever to be done

Kid Rock Spouts Off http://www.musicemissions.com/users/polyester_man/blog/Kid+Rock+Spouts+Off?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=BlogPosts 2008-06-20 12:00:00 polyester_man So, Kid Rock (aka Robert J. Ritchie) advocates stealing his music.

He also says that iTunes and all the other online music stores are a new version of the old music industry where everyone gets a bigger cut than the artists themselves. Apparently, Robert doesn't understand the online model that Apple follows whereby the music company takes the lion's share of the pie and Apple is left breaking even (so they say).

Robert is also unaware that he gave the music cartel permission to bend him over the table and fuck him mercilessly up the ass when he signed that contract. Robert is also getting fucked by the management company he's hired to represent his interests during the negotiations.

According to Robert's logic, anyone (who can get past his security) can just walk into his house and steal what they want. He is rich. He is also advocating that we try to get into his live shows for free.

It's interesting to note that Mr Ritchie also owns his own label - Top Dog Records. I wonder if he fucks over the talent that he signs so as to support his lifestyle? Did he steal all the recording equipment he has?

Oh, Mr. Ritchie also doesn't understand how the oil economy works either. It's being driven (literally) by consumers in Hummers. In order to emulate the rock star lifestyle (which he serves as one of the top role models), one would have to buy the flashiest things. Big-ass, gas sucking Hummers with chromed 22's would serve nicely.

So, overall a nice interview that ably demonstrates the intelligence and logic of one of the top acts of our time.

Random Playlist Numero Dunno http://www.musicemissions.com/users/SolitaryMan/blog/Random+Playlist+Numero+Dunno?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=BlogPosts 2008-06-18 03:06:06 SolitaryMan These are always fun to do.

Swans - My Buried Child (The Great Annihilator)

Swans were a band that changed a whole lot over the years but constantly stayed interesting. The Great Annihilator just might be the best of them, for songs like this. They had a sort of freak-out goth dance thing going on that's hard to pin down but definitely a blast to listen to.

Enslaved - Reogenesis (Isa)

I gotta thank Dennis for introducing me to this band. Isa was released in 04 but it was still a treat to come across it now. This song is epic as all hell, reminds me of something Opeth would think up. Clocks in at 12 minutes and shifts all over the place, from darker atmospheric moments to a big, ballsy solo section.

Mayhem - Illuminate Eliminate (Ordo Ad Chao)

This album continues to impress me, and I've listened to it quite a few times. There's an atmosphere all over the album that so few black metal albums have ever gotten so right, and it's perfect; it's ice-cold, rebellious, threatening, foreboding, unrelenting, mysterious...it's all sorts of great shit. There's a reason why these guys continue to be my favorite black metal band, and it's because, despite their lack of consistent output, they constantly sound like a different band. I appreciate Hellhammer's drumming most of all, he's always been the foundation of the band and it's his work that drives the rest. The vocalist, a guy who calls himself Atilla, has probably the most superb handle on this style of vocals known to man. He sounds vicious as a rule, with unsettling growls and piercing shrieks and wails all over the place. I could go on and on...like the way this track builds up into one of the coolest sounding crescendos in metal history, and at nearly 10 minutes deserves to be the focal point of not only the album but the band's entire career of late.

Devin Townsend - Notes From Africa (Synchestra)

DT is many things. Most of all, he's just a creative mastermind. An emotional powerhouse of musical ingenuity, a guy who can make a record sound like the most miserable times of your life the first half, and then totally switch it up and have you pissing rainbows and shitting snowflakes in no time. I'll never stop praising him, I just don't see how others can't feel what I do when I hear his music. Obsession isn't the right word, but connected on a level others might not be...that might not be as much of a stretch as you think. Anyway, this song and the album as a whole probably represents Devin as his most chipper...and most deficient of attention span, lol. Seriously, Synchestra jumps around more from song to song than Michael Jackson at a row of grade school bathroom stalls. That's awful...that's just awful...

Cover Songs http://www.musicemissions.com/users/polyester_man/blog/Cover+Songs?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=BlogPosts 2008-06-13 15:52:44 polyester_man Just heard the Ataris cover of Don Henley's "The Boys of Summer." I think that I prefer the original.

This isn't always the case. There are remakes that I have preferred over the originals. Briefly, some of them are:

Johnny Cash's cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus"

Another Johnny Cash cover that I prefer is (of Trent Reznor's) "Hurt"

Alien Ant Farm's cover of Wacko Jacko's "Smooth Criminal"

The Corrs cover of Fleetwood Mac's "Dreams"

The Dixie Chick's cover of another Fleetwood Mac song "Landslide"

Al Green's cover of the Bee Gees song "How Can You Mend a Broken Heart" (who even remembers the original Bee Gees song?)

The Cowboy Junkies cover of Patsy Cline's "Walking After Midnight" (although I prefer the Velvet Underground's version of Lou Reed's song "Sweet Jane" over the Junkies' interpretation)

I'm pretty sure that I'm missing other excellent covers, given my limited exposure to new music.
