I remember hearing the song Bob and not only falling in love with the song but the band as well. Fat Mike, I love you!

D Video Classic Corner - Big Drill Car - Friend of Mine http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/D+Video+Classic+Corner+-+Big+Drill+Car+-+Friend+of+Mine?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=separateBlogs 2009-08-28 16:41:30 I was doing some research on Youtube for something, actually just procrastinating and came across some old songs of videos that I've never even seen of songs that I used to love. I thought I would bring them your way as I find them. Introducing D's Video Classic Corner. First up is a band from California in the early 90s that really had a good pop/punk sound. They were called Big Drill Car. Check out this video (which I have just seen for the first time) for Friend Of Mine.

LOOKING FOR CHARITY WATER DONATIONS... PUTTING ON MY RUNNING SHOES http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/LOOKING+FOR+CHARITY+WATER+DONATIONS___+PUTTING+ON+MY+RUNNING+SHOES?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=separateBlogs 2009-08-26 14:31:55 In three months, I'm going to run 10KM.

That's 10KM of sweating, pushing, giving everything I've got.

Sounds rough, right? Well imagine doing all of that without clean water.

Every week, millions of women and their children walk more than 14 miles just to get water for their families. Most of this water is contaminated, but it's the only water they have. They take the chance of catching diseases like bilharzia and schistosomiasis (parasites) - with every sip. There's nothing they can do to change it.

So, what can I do?

My mission is to raise a mere $5,000 for water. I want every step to matter. I'm asking for pledges per foot, per mile or flat out donations to help achieve my goal.

Because of charity: water's unique model, 100% of all donations go directly to water projects, and each donation is "proved" when projects are complete. I aim to raise $5,000 in the next three months.

I hope you'll join me in helping them now.

Sponsor me now!

78 CMJ New Music Magazines for Sale http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/78+CMJ+New+Music+Magazines+for+Sale?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=separateBlogs 2009-06-02 16:25:53 Hey Everyone, I thought I would extend this offer to the Music Emissions community before I head down other avenues to get rid of these magazines. I used to subscribe to the CMJ (College Music Journal back in the day and I've still got them kicking around. They are a hoot to go through but I am trying to downsize my "stuff".

Basically I've got from - Mar 1997 #43 (Ani DiFranco) all the way through to Jan/Feb 2005 #130 (Sage Francis)

Only 9 issues missing in the middle which could be found on ebay.

78 Issues - CDs all Included (may be one or two discs missing)

I'd be willing to sell all of them to one of the ME community members for $2 a piece = $156 + whatever it will cost to ship these. Just drop a message below if you are at all interested.

We've made a few changes to personal blogs: Mo Betta http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/We_ve+made+a+few+changes+to+personal+blogs_+Mo+Betta?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=separateBlogs 2009-03-21 01:37:39 Personal blogs aren't as strict with titles anymore.

You should use these for your random quips about things not totally related to one artist, things not related to music in general.

Don't forget to tag them with a bunch of artist names if you want your blog posted on all of their artist pages. We are still trying to sort out if we are going to be keeping the personal blog feature but for now they aren't going to go anywhere. Have fun with them. Drop a comment below if you want them, don't want them, need a new feature on them, or don't care either way.

I just caught wind of this today. It looks to be a promising open source media player to give iTunes a run for it's money.  What media player do you use? I use iTunes. • Michael Franti and Spearhead - All Rebel Rockers (Anti) : I don't know why I didn't see this album on anyone else list. Was it only released in Canada? This is the most fun, all round album I have heard in years. It's something I wish that Ben Harper would take a lesson from. Good dance tracks, good singer/songwriter songs, good reggae... It's all here.
  • Torche - Meanderthal (Hydra Head) : This one took me be surprise. I didn't think that Torche would be able to ever make it on one of my lists. I had heard their last album but tracks like "Across The Shields" grab you by the pants and demand your attention.
  • TV On The Radio - Dear Science, (Interscope) : No real surprise here. I was so excited when the Brooklyn boys announced another album. This one is so accessible that it will end up on most people's list. So catchy this time around. They got everything right.
  • Vampire Weekend - Vampire Weekend (XL) : There was so much buzz over Vampire Weekend that I approached the album cautiously. I still turn to this album for great pop entertainment. Seriously good pop.
  • Meshuggah - obZen (Nuclear Blast) : I hadn't listened Meshuggah before obZen. This album blew me away with the sheer sonics. It made Tool pale in comparison. If you like metal listen to obZen.
  • Elbow - Seldom Seen Kid (Geffen) : I always new that Elbow had this album in them. It just incorporates so many elements of what's great about British rock these days, mellow, rocking, dramatic, dynamics.
  • The Black Keys - Attack & Release (Nonesuch) : Attack & Release is one album that I didn't expect to like as much as I did. I've had The Black Keys on my year end list before but I didn't think they could impress me like this.
  • Hold Steady - Stay Positive (Vagrant) : Again, I didn't think The Hold Steady would ever beat their first two albums but Stay Positive incorporated the gritty raw feel of their first two albums and the polished feel of the last one. Amazing album!
  • Sigur Ros - Med Sud I Eyrum Vid Spilum Endalaust (XL) : I've always had a soft spot for Sigur Ros but they've never been a "favorite". Med Sud I... changed that. The added vocals really added a dynamic to their music that made it touch home for me. It started with the Harf/Heim album and continued here.
  • Opeth - Watershed (Roadrunner) : Opeth is another band that blew away expectations with Watershed. One of those bands you think have peaked but then out do themselves. That's exactly what this album did for them. A great year for metal releases.
  • Short List: Children of Bodom - Blooddrunk, Iron & Wine - The Shepherd's Dog, Lucinda Williams - Little Honey, The Bug - London Zoo, Bon Iver - For Emma, Forever Ago, Walkmen - You & I, Foals - Antidote, Throw Me The Statue - Moonbeams, Kills - Midnight Boom, Russian Circles - Station, Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes, Scar Symmetry - Holographic Universe, Enslaved - Vertebrae, Protest The Hero - Fortress, Kings of Leon - Only By The Night

Truest return to form: The Mars Volta - Bedlam in Goliath

Big Disappointments: My Morning Jacket - Evil Urges, The Gutter Twins - Saturnalia (decent but not up to what I was expecting)

Best Band You've never heard: Western Fifth - Stand Like A Thief

Olympic NBC Broadcast Humor http://www.musicemissions.com/users/dscanland/blog/Olympic+NBC+Broadcast+Humor?utm_source=RSS&utm_medium=RSS&utm_campaign=separateBlogs 2008-09-09 13:56:40 I have to share this with you. Things heard by NBC broadcasters during their 2008 Olympic coverage:

    1. Weightlifting commentator: 'This is Gregoriava from Bulgaria. I saw her snatch this morning during her warm up and it was amazing.'

    2. Dressage commentator: 'This is really a lovely horse and I speak from personal experience since I once mounted her mother.'

    3. Paul Hamm, Gymnast: 'I owe a lot to my parents, especially my mother and father.'

    4. Boxing Analyst: 'Sure there have been injuries, and even some deaths in boxing, but none of them really that serious.'

    5. Softball announcer: 'If history repeats itself, I should think we can expect the same thing again.'

    6. Basketball analyst: 'He dribbles a lot and the opposition doesn't like it. In fact you can see it all over their faces.'

    7. At the rowing medal ceremony: 'Ah, isn't that nice, the wife of the IOC president is hugging the cox of the British crew.'

    8. Soccer commentator: 'Julian Dicks is everywhere. It's like they've got eleven Dicks on the field.'

    9. Tennis commentator: 'One of the reasons Andy is playing so well is that, before the final round, his wife takes out his balls and kisses them... Oh my God, what have I just said?
