So I went to Warped tour on the 9th. What an amazing show. There were so many great things about this tour.
I never saw anyone who wasn't having fun. Everyone had a smile on their face, bands were happy playing and rocking out on stage. People were striking up conversations with random people, there were comments on other people’s shirts galore. Security guards were nice, open and accepting to moshing, helping out or whatever. I don’t know what it was, maybe the fact that there was no alcohol?
So I saw a lot of bands, I walked by a lot of bands, and I missed a lot of bands, due to the fact that I never even found the Hurley stage. I got into a lot of bands, especially Kaddisfly, awesome stuff, and bought around 10 CDs, I blew a lot of money on Warped. I got Gallows CD, too.
Sometime I will be posting up some relatively decent bootlegs of Flogging Molly, Killswitch Engage, Coheed And Cambria, Circa Survive, and The Starting Line.
Also, on the 11th, I went to the Garden Grove festival, which, you guessed it, is named after the first track on Sublime’s self titled album. The show was hosted by Badfish, an impeccable Sublime cover band who performed every key track. Also there was one of my favorites, ZOX. They were also in prime form and did well for their first concert out of the studio. Also there was Baylock, a great group of ska-playing guys who share my love of Pearl Jam. And, the bands I was most astounded by, The Indefinite Article and Baldi and Suburban Graffiti, who have created something I’ve never heard before: a mix of ska, blues and rap. Baldi was the better of the two, but they are both really worth checking out for the sheer originality of their music. Last but not least, there’s a band called Stealing Jane who my sister is obsessed with. A very decent ska group. I also bootlegged almost everything except for Badfish at this festival. I’m gonna have to get those up too.
Sean, you’ve got to PM me about these posters and stickers and such. I’ve got some stuff for you.
Next month: Guster, Hello Mahalo, and some other bands at WBRUs summer concert series.
Comments:
I just reviewed the Gallows disc. It's a great throw-back to the heavy days of early hardcore punk. I loved it. I'm glad you didn't get rained out like Broken did.
