These are always fun to do.

Swans - My Buried Child (The Great Annihilator)

Swans were a band that changed a whole lot over the years but constantly stayed interesting. The Great Annihilator just might be the best of them, for songs like this. They had a sort of freak-out goth dance thing going on that's hard to pin down but definitely a blast to listen to.

Guitar Hero Hurts

Who here plays? And who gets hurt by playing? I try to limit myself but it's so addicting you can lose hours to it and never notice. It's quite remarkable. What hurts is the left hand and the cramping, you don't notice while your hand is set (as least how I set mine) until you move it away from the buttons and then you're like "SHIT" and "BITCH" and other capitalized cussing. Also, it's gotten to the point where when I close my eyes, all I see is notes dropping down a virt

Emperor -The Acclamation of Bonds (Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk)

One of my favorite black metal albums ever. If you ask me, it was around this time that the band reached their peak, a perfect blend of symphonic epicness and black metal rage, astounding musicianship and tight-as songwriting. "Acclamation" features sweeping arrangements that sound like musical company to ghost stories that ghosts tell each other.

Interviews

After a long period of not giving much thought to them, I decided it was time to get some interviews done. In rather short order, I managed to get both Boston's best kept rock secret, A'tris and one of Lousville's up and comers, Anton Mink, under my interviewing microscope. Both came out extremely well, and both deserve your attetion. I'll make it convenient for you:

If my calculations are accurate, my promise and subsequent breaking of said promise to do one of these every week means that I know owe you 20 edtions of my Random Playlist Review. I know, grab those tissues.

Prince - Purple Rain

Why do I like Prince? His charisma, his passion and the beautiful way he has with words and with a big cheesy anthemic guitar solo. He's got it where most pop stars never had it, and I think most of the ambiguit

Sorry for the lack of me

I hope no one was worried! Haha, I'm sure you were. I'm fine, just been extremely wrapped up in other things. I also had a little time without an internet connection, so I kinda drifted from the cause. You should all see me back in the swing of things soon, real soon. Sorry to Dennis and the rest of the staff, and anyone who enjoys what I do here.

Happy Holidays And Have A Great 08

It's been awhile. I have to blame the holidays and my own procrastinations for my recent absense, and many apologies to those who've come to like (indeed, love) my contributions and just can't seem to get enough of me. lol.

The season has been kind to me, how about you? My tally includes a special 2-disc edition of Devin Townsend's "Ziltoid The Omniscient", two Pink Floyd novels, the newest novel by Rush drummer Neil Peart (excellent author), and the prize so far.

Who and Why

For the endlessly curious, my favorite bands and reasons why they're so great.

Rush

For lack of a sappy 'their songs saved my life' tale, my undying, unrelenting love for just about every album this Canadian 3-piece has produced over their 30+ years has no universal tale of relativity attached to it. It was as simple as figuring out at a rather young age that music had a powerful impact to me, that it painted mental pictures before I

5th Entry or Not So Seasonal Thankfulness

Now I don't know about the rest of you, but in my family it's always been a tradition, around this time of year, to be thankful. Thankful for family, friends, our health and our successes in life. Thankful for our mistakes and their accompanying lessons, thankful for the roof above and floor below. But, as I grew up and learned to question, I wondered why we shouldn't act this way all the time. It's not too much to hope for, or to do. It just takes a little effort. With that i

Just sneaking this one in for the week. Been a bit under the weather and therefore unproductive, but I think I'll find more time soon.

Janus - Der Flusterer Im Dunkeln(From the 1998 album "Vater")

Here's a band I'm sure not many of you have heard of. They hail from Germany and their style is rather unique; blending neo-folk, dark electronic, ambient and progressive metal. Overall the atmosphere is dark and
