I tried to avoid the first single for weeks. Finally, my friend turned it on me to piss me off--but her plan failed. Why? It's incredibly catchy and not surprisingly, if you stop and think, an alteration to their former sound. I'm talking about "This Ain't A Scene" by Fall Out Boy. Now even though I thoroughly enjoyed the new song, I still avoided the entire album like the plague.

But then I heard other songs like "Thks Fr Th Mmrs" and "Thriller" and various others. They moved from this pop punk immature to a grown, slightly harder sound. I can't deny that's the primary reason why I like this new album. I find Stump's vocals still fitting into a poppy album and completely odd to be on this kind of a record, but other than that--the album is pretty resistant to any other criticism other than the some piss poor lyrics. However, you can feel and hear some general anger about being the focus of the attention, most of it negative ("Thriller").

From Under The Cork Tree was horrible--and thank god, it's probably the last poppy album Fall Out Boy will ever release. Music is a business and pop-punk isn't selling nearly as much as it used to. Indie stuff is taking over. CDs like Bloc Party's "A Weekend In The City," The Shins' "Wincing The Night Away," and The Arcade Fire's "Neon Bible" did phenomanally their first weeks. I think that is a big reason for the transition.

A transition for the better.

It's funny when people get a preconcieved notion of a band. I've downloaded the new FOB and have yet to listen to it. There has to be a reason why this band is so fucking big right now.

Congrats on standing up and speaking your honest mind instead of just hiding behind all the other "Fall Out Boy Sucks" comments. If you like it, listen to it, goddamn it!
