"People think that we don't understand/What it takes to want to be a man" - Built To Spill, Goin' Against Your Mind.

If you do not recognize this song not only as a triumphant return for a band that'd been silent for six years, but also as the most kick-ass song of 2006, then your brain has failed and should be returned to wherever you got it; I hope you kept your reciept.

I'm in a bad fucking mood.

No, I haven't been posting a lot this week, for two reasons, mainly:

1. I feel increasingly unimpressed with everyone's apparent love for whiny fake-punk - oops, I meant 'melodic hardcore'. That's what you're calling it, right? Please. Your bands all sound the same, which is why you get into arguments that exist of back-and-forth witticisms along the lines of "Your band's so emo!", "No, your band's emo!", ad nauseum. THEY ALL SUCK. Punk bands are assembled these days as easily as boy-bands were in the nineties, and punk as a genre with integrity died the moment Malcolm McLaren decided to sell clothing.

(Yes, what I'm saying is that punk NEVER had any integrity. It's ALWAYS been about fascist fashion, and if you cannot discern this, you're either seriously deluded, or else you deserve the steaming heaps of fecal matter that's currently being shoveled down your throat. I have spoken)

In ten years, you'll be embarassed by the shit you're listening to now. Trust me: it's happened to EVERYONE.

2. Women hurt my head in strange and surprisingly ingenious ways. Were it not for the prospect of touching their soft bits and having them inversely touch mine, I'd sooner date a houseplant, because at least then I'd have some semblance of control over the situation. If you're reading this and you possess more than one x chromosome, understand that somewhere there is a man who is exhausted by simply trying to fathom your motives.

Yes, I am smitten. Shut UP.

Muchmusic's LOUD is currently vomiting forth hoary old metal chestnuts from the eighties; I just sat through Anvil's video for 'Metal On Metal', and I'm wondering what crime I might've committed that forces me to watch grown men in fishnet tights sexually molest their instruments in such a manner; of course, it could be worse: it could be grown men wearing eyeliner and fetsih-wear while they perform Joy Division songs in Drop-D.

New acquistions:

Wolf & Cub, Vessels: psychedelic metal in the manner of Black Mountain and Kyuss, but instead of on one of those pot-distribution franchises masquerading as a record label with an oh-so-convincing name like Up-In-Smoke Records, it's on 4AD. Go. Find. Now.

What, you need more? It's on 4AD. These people brought you the Pixies. They deserve your love forever. Where the hell is your head?

I should point out that this band has nothing to do with the similarily named (lone) Wolf & Cub, a metal group with a penchant for recruiting autists for vocal duties (http://www.musicemissions.com/artists/albums/index.php?album_id=4773); these guys are different. They're from Australia...

...yeah, you're right; that wasn't very funny at all...

OneManArmy, project f.e.t.u.s. : remember Binary Star? Of course you don't, because most hip-hop fans have the memory of a friggin' goldfish. Binary Star's Masters of The Universe belongs right up there with Low End Theory and 3 Feet High & Rising. OneManArmy is half of Binary Star, but he also goes by the name of one.be.lo, currently your best friend on Myspace. His 2005 album S.O.N.O.G.R.A.M. is phenomenal, and now LA Underground has re-released his first solo effort, project f.e.t.u.s.; it is fucking amazing.

That's it for now. Y'know, Gwen Stefani really fucking blew it on this new one, didn't she? I mean, for a ska-punk-princess-turned-pop-queen, you'd think that she still had a few hooks left, right?

Oh, look, Justin Timberlake's beating up Scarlet Johannson. That's some funny shit, yo. I guess she really can act.

Comments:

dscanland says:

Holy Shit, You are in a bad mood. I'm glad it's all out though. Need someone to talk to? Need a hug?

And yes, I agree, that Built To Spill song is one of the best songs of this decade.

I'm curious about that Wolf & Cub now too. Thanks for the heads up. Do post a review.
