Lyric of the day: : "You're not obliged to swallow anything you despise..." The Shins, Sleeping Lessons.
It's surprising what the offer and subsequent delivery of free beverages can get you.
New acquisitions:
1. Peter, Bjorn & John, Writer's Block: what the hell is up with the Swedes? It's like they're all playing a collective game of 'Anyting You Can do I Can Do Better: Music Edition' against THE ENTIRE WORLD, and they're WINNING. Metal, punk, pop, electronic, it doesn't matter; we'll champion some grand new release in Tuvian folk-rave-polka, and two months later some scruffy laplander in snowpants and suspenders is stomping all over us with a nose-flute and a laptop. I've been hearing so much buzz about this CD that I was hesitant about picking it up (it was the whole "You Can Have It For Free' thing that clinched it...) but fuck me blind if this isn't some of the best goddamned indie-pop I've heard in the last year.
2. Jesu, Conqueror: God bless Justin K. Broderick. My ears are gonna bleed for a week, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna have to evacuate my bowels in a few minutes due to the sheer sonic force that is Jesu. THAT'S WHY HE NAMED IT AFTER THE SON OF GOD: BECAUSE IT'S ARRIVAL WILL MAKE YOU SOIL YOURSELF.
All that for a hot chocolate and an apple cider; I'd say more but I'd probably get some people in trouble, and that would be no good, seeing as I've got my eye on that new Kristin Hersh and the new Apostle of Hustle that's got one song with Lisa 'Left-Eye' Lobsinger - suffice to say, the barter system is alive and well among wage-slaves in Calgary, and has been for some time. Just don't tell any of our bosses, 'kay?
Gotta go; I've got to choose between a WWII movie (awesome) and a book about people in the U.S. Military who are trying to kill goats WITH THEIR MINDS (awesomer). Yes, you read that correctly, and no, it's not fiction. I am truly blessed.

Thank you, thank you and thank you.
After repeated listens, the PB&J certainly stands up to scrutiny. I like (and I just noticed the 'PB&J' thing, as in Peanut Butter & Jam. I wonder if they intended that, but then I also tend to obsess over things like that, because I AM A NERD.).
Of course, we all KNEW that the Jesu would rock. I mean, c'mon...

Ha, I beat you to the Jesu review. AND I gave it five stars biotch.
I do have to agree though, the Peter Bjorn and John is sweet too. Some good catchy stuff. But again, the Jesu is actually catchy too, in a little darker way, but not that dark.

You have the best description of the Swedish music scene I have yet read. Period. They are indeed kicking ass, and I love it. Great post!
