As my previous post stated, I was off to see Fall of Troy, Protest The Hero, and Chiodos at the University here in Calgary last night. It was a good show but I did have a couple complaints. First off, I was a little disappointed I missed half of Fall of Troy's set. What I saw was quite impressive and in hindsight, it may have been good that I only caught 4 songs. Protest the Hero was amazing BUT their "Orville Shreddenbacher" skills tend to wear after about 4-5 songs. All the songs start sounding the same. There was not enough diversity in the songs to provide a good show. And when I think about it, I don't think I have gotten through Fortress all in one listen. I will attempt to with my upcoming review. And Chiodos was too much for me. Craig Owens was a little too... Ah, flamboyant? I don't know what the word is. He is decent showman but his schtick started to wear as well. Chiodos' songs sounded too similar in a live setting as well. In the end, I'm glad I had the opportunity to see all three of these bands.

No that does not count !!! lol... You'll mosh, o yes your day will come again soon...lol

I agree with you 100% John... only some venues of that size have a not-so-becoming reverb and bounce off the nearby walls for some genres.  Whatever you want to call this tours' sound, it may not be optimum for their performance.  OUtside concerts are best, but unreliable as well.  Its a catch 22 I suppose.  But yeah, we park our cars in teh same garage on this ideology.  Theres nothing more disgusting than not being able to enjoy the show because of the herds.  Anything more than 2000 ppl and you're just a number.  Rather than a listener the artist is trying to reach.

The only good venues are the ones that are real closed in with less than 2000.

I hate arena venues with a passion.

I too would like to know if you moshed.

Flamboyant is definitely a good word D....lol@ "Orville Shreddenbacher", thats terrific...all in all looked like it was worth your time.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, lots of energy but the overall hills of rhythm seem to be missing from both TFOT and Chiodos...Its not that they're bad acts live, but the bite of the music comes off less cookie cutter.  Though, the venue is always an important part...real closed in 2,000 or less it seems?

well, that is typically what happens in hard core concerts regardless.  I went to a show featuring Killswitch Engage, Every Time I Die, Dillinger Escape Plan, and Parkway Drive and it sounded like I was listening to one gigantic song.

I think it is also better if you know the songs beforehand.  It's always a great concert when you can sing along.

Yes, he did sing. He had a pretty good growl voice. Again, I'm glad I didn't catch their whole set. I think I may have ended up bored. It seems these bands don't strive on the diverse show. They just go balls out for their 45 minute sets.

lame, did he sing?  Erak and their former bassist both sang in their previous acts.

I thought he was great. Sad thing was the bass was way down in the mix. Again, I wouldn't have known otherwise because I've never seen them before. He's a big burly black dude. They had great energy. As I stated, I missed half of their set though.
