I'm Gonna Be Playing With One of My Favorite Bands... This is Good...

So this week's been pretty crappy. There's been some bad and some ugly, so there must be some good right? I go into school on Wednesday and my band mate comes up to me and hugs me. I'm a little confused to say the least. The other day, he told me we might be playing with Bomb the Music Industry at the Trocadero (well-known club in Philly), but it wasn't confirmed. I asked him "... did we get the show". He was all "Yes, no one told you?". I yelled no and started acting like a giddy little school girl. Bomb the Music Industry pratically got me into ska. Before we started our band, my boy Andy gave me a mix CD of ten indie bands and ten ska bands. I wasn't very opened minded at that time, so I pretty much skipped over all the ska tracks except the last two. The first was Catch 22's Keasbey Nights. I had heard of them before but since I didn't listen to more than three bands back in the day, I never gave them a listen. That was a great track that got me very much interested in ska. Then the last song came on, Syke! Life is Awesome. The song was outrageous and maddening and I couldn't stop listening to it. It was energetic, angry, and some what sad. After that, Andy gave me some CD's, one included was "Album Minus Band" and "To Live or Die in Long Island EP". These were great albums that really got me inspired and excited about ska.

After the band started and we were doing shows in the summer, Andy burnt me "Goodbye Cool World", which had just came out at the time. I loved this CD even more than the last two. If you don't know anything about BTMI, the band's basically one guy, Jeff Ronsenstock from Arrogant Sons of Bitches. He recorded these CD's on his computer and allows people to download them off his site (which explains the name). It's people like these that show the true meaning of music. That's why I love the band. Not only do they make great music, they make are able to do it with insufficient funds. I hear people go "I need to do this and this and get tons of cash to have people hear my music and be famous". Yeah, okay! Rosenstock's proof that you're full of crap. So back to the point, I'm gonna be playing with one of my favorite bands, which has been a goal for me for awhile. I mean sure, playing with Bomb the Music Industry isn't as hard as playing with Green Day, but hey, a hero is a hero. I'll get to meet Rosenstock which is awesome, and if I'm lucky, I may be able to play with them.

It should be a good show. Let's hope it is, haha. He seems like a cool guy from the Youtube videos I've seen of him. Of course, he was gonna name "Goodbye Cool World", "Clap Your Hands Say Shut The F*ck Up".

Good luck with the show! That should be a good one.

I think it was you and Andy that got me into Bomb The Music Industry. Or maybe Broken? Either way, I am a fan as well. I love how they just give away their music. I think more bands need to follow this example. It is a great way to get people into your music without having to "sell". If people fall in love with your sound, they will follow you to shows, buy merch, pimp your band for you. I hope you don't get disappointed playing with them/meeting them. That's happened to me before too.
